Location, appearance, friendliness of staff, and the rooftop. The fitness center was adequate and even if it wasn't, the view from there was amazing! There was great food at the hotel and all around the neighbourhood, try Wolf Nights and Tiny's Giant Sandwich Shop. We spotted a few TV and sports stars in the lobby, that was interesting...they are much uglier in person. I felt like I spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator and the complimentary coffee seemed to be a chore for the staff to deal with. Also, there was an incident when my girlfriend needed assistance with something and the concierge was skeptical that she was a guest and was very rude. Everyone else was great!
Wonderful location (but Lower East Side, not central). Bice bar and public spaces. Beware the tiny, tiny rooms!
Comfort of room. View. Restaurant. Location.
Bar Rooms ,menu
Stunning penthouse. Recommended for absolutely amazing views and parties. At times, tough to get ice up to the room as there are two elevators to the area - sometimes one could not hear the knocking. Solution, Keep the doors open so that they can walk in without difficulty.
the staff was great at suggesting places to go and places to dine. The room was clean and contemporary in style not a lot of space to put luggage, if you want to live out of it. Its best to just unpack and use the closet space
From the decor of the hotel, to the hot staff, to the art deco rooms, it was a great stay. I will definitely make this my new nyc hotel.
I was treated very well by hotel staff. There was a room upgrade available and it was given to me without asking. It's a short walk away from SoHo shops and the subway is across the street. I did not enjoy the on site restaurant (Shang Restaurant). It's was empty for the most part of the weekend and the service was a bit poor...which is odd because there were no customers.
Good location and interesting room design plus cool shower & free NY Times. Lack of replacement shampoo each day; noise Sat night on 7th floor.
The hotel has a modern, slightly industrial feel with cement ceilings and exposed beams, which I liked. The bathroom is similar to recently updated Hyatts but the living/sleeping space is much more trendy. I liked the floor to ceiling windows and the light fixtures. Our king suite has a great little sitting area, too. The most important thing was that the location cannot be beat. We didn't take a taxi once! There are lots of great bars, restaurants and clubs in the area but the subway stop nearby makes everything easy. The walls don't seem very well insulated. We were woken up at 3:30am by our rowdy neighbors opening and shutting their door and talking.
very pleasant staff- helpful with directions, charge my phone etc
Staff were friendly and the room was large and comortable. Couldn't fault it.
The staff, food, vibe, smell, and the help Valet parking
Location. Design. Chic. Friendly c One loud night, Halloween weekend.
Not at all, Room 705 was noisy. Poor service was provided.
The hotel staff did a great job at catering to our every need. They were prompt and never seemed annoyed with our many specific requests. The room was clean, comfortable, and the rain shower was amazing. I have nothing but good things to say about my stay. I would recommend the Thompson LES to anyone traveling to New York. No complaints. Perhaps the area wouldn't be ideal for people visiting NYC for the first time, as it's a more local/less touristy area. Having said that, it is only a $10 cab ride away from Time Square, or a short trip on the subway to anywhere in Manhattan.
Location was great with a lot of varied night-life options. Terrace bar and pool is something to check out for sure. A/C worked well but was very loud especially with something loose inside that made a clunking noise constantly while the A/C ran. I called down after the first night to see if could be addressed. Engineering was sent while we were out but the problem wasn't fixed. We got in too late to deal with the second so had to try prob a chair against it to dampen the noise :(
Great look, great location. Clean, modern rooms. Perfect for me Last night of my stay, my floor (9th) turned very noisy. Not just in rooms but up and down the hall. Younger crowd yelling to each other, etc. Felt like I was trying to sleep in the middle of a frat party! This was between 1-2am and went on for quite some time. It would have hoped someone would ask them quiet down on room levels.
I rarely write reviews but our stay at Hoilday Inn LES was perfect as it was three blocks away from my family we were visiting. We booked two rooms for the price of one boutique hotel in the neighborhood. The rooms were clean and modern. I've stayed in luxury hotels like the Ritz and boutique hotels like the Kimptons. This Holiday Inn room reminded me of the W Hotel in San Francisco (size, style, etc. less one down comforter). The staff was always courteous and helpful. Free WiFi! could use their "e-room" to use computer or print boarding passes. Free complementary toiletries if you forgot something. Air conditioner was amazing. Showers and water pressure were awesome. Room was very quiet. This will be our go-to hotel from now on in NYC.
Nice staff, clean rooms in good condition. Courtyard. Subway is very accessible Bridge traffic and unattractive street area.
Good location, clean room Small bed, not "king sized"
Staff was wonderful able to accommodate uptown view request. Views from the hotel were lovely. Street noise, in the 16th floor and we could hear everything.
the bed was sooo comfortable, we had a 180 degree view of manhattan skyline, excellent by night. staff great and great restaurants +coffee within walkng distance.$5 breakfasts great. No we had a ball for 13 nights and would love to stay there again.
The room is clean, the location very convenient for us, and the staff was very helpful. Not a thing
The staff were great. Starting with Elvis at the door Darnell,, Christine, Alex, Eddie, Leo & the women with the nightly cookies. The fresh baked cookies at night & the restaurant/room service food were very good. Showers & beds fine. (The sheer curtains could be laundered or replaced.)
The room was beautiful and we were upgraded when they found out it was our honeymoon. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel bar was great at night! All was great
Some of the best features of the Hotel on Rivington are what make it unique - the full length windows around the room, including in the shower room were superb, and the views from the 14th floor were amazing. Also the minibar content (premium drinks and spirits) is a nice touch! Being in the Lower East Side was ideal for anyone who wants to go out and experience New York nightlife, as well as being well connected to the rest of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Very different, unique hotel, highly recommended.
Helpful, friendly staff. Great location. Spacious room with a balcony, great view of Freedom Tower and excellent temper-pedic bed.
Decent helpful staff Quite noisy
The room was large(for NYC), the bed was very comfy, and the bathroom very roomy and well-stocked. The lighting in the bathroom was terrible. One small light over mirror and light with dimmer over tub. Very hard to put make-up on!
The location is brilliant - right in the middle of a great scene in New York. The hotel design is fantasic with good sized rooms and wonderful floor to ceiling windows. The beds were also extremely comfortable. We didn't recieve good service. We did not have anything explained to us on arrival, but, witnessed other guests recieving better introductions to the hotel and what was available. Even at breakfast we were not told about the buffet (the more cost effective option) until the last day - by another guest not the waiter! The room was also not as clean as we epected from this level of hotel. .
Big rooms, looked good very nice bathroom, good for young people, popular lounge on the 1.floor,
Loved the size of the room, the steam/shower, and the wall of windows Wish there was a shade on the bathroom window, more hooks/shelves in the extra space in the bathroom (only one hook on which to hang two towels?!) How can we be green and re-use towels that can't be hung to dry? The room was a tiny bit tattered - beat up around the edges of walls, unfinished panel behind curtains, curtains hanging off hooks, but I suppose it's hard to keep up with the maintenance in NYC!
Epic rooftop view of the city! Super friendly staff.
This was our second stay at Hotel East Houston and we still liked it. The rooms are quite small but big enough to not feel claustrophobic. There's a glass wall between the bathroom and the room, so you'll need to be pretty comfortable with your traveling partner. I liked the fact that our room had an Air conditioning/heat system we could control on our own. The hotel is not super convenient to any major Subway lines. Houston Street is often busy so you'll likely hear some street noise in your room. But hey, that's NYC for you.
This hotel was in a great location close to everything- subway, restaurants and bars. The room itself was nice and clean, it seems like it was recently updated. Like most hotels in NYC, it's small. It also doesn't have a bar or restaurant on site, but with so many near it you don't need to worry.
The staff was so nice and the room was clean & comfortable. A great deal in a fun neighborhood. They even held onto my luggage after check out so I could run around the city before heading to the airport. The rooms are all situated by the elevator which can get a little noisy but not too bad.
Wonderful small hotel right in the heart of the Lower East Side of NYC. You step out the hotel door and you are in the real NYC. Less than a block away from a subway station. Beautiful 7th floor patio that you can see views of the Empire State Building, Freedom Tower and the Chrysler Building. Every type of restaurant you can think of within walking distance. A Whole Foods a block away. The mattresses in the rooms could be a little better quality. Not terrible but could be better.
I needed a hotel close to a conference I was attending and found a deal here online. this turned out to be a great choice. Affordable small room is well furnished perfect for one person or a couple who like to be close! I travel with a service dog, and the hotel staff treated us both extremely well. There was a ton of fun NYC activity to do in walking distance & subway is right across the street, so my business trip included the requisit level of evening debauchery. If you'd rather spend your time in the city out on the town than in your room, this perfectly fine hotel saves ya money you could spend in restaurants & at shows! pipes creak... really that's all i got. the building's old world charm I guess!
I've stayed here at least 5 times now, so finally felt compelled to review. The hotel is nothing truly fancy but it almost feels that way. Rooms are very small, but they're nice. If you're there for business or travel and not planning to stay inside you'll be fine. I've stayed in hotels for twice the price that feel to be the same scale. I keep returning bc they make it easy. The staff is super friendly and the location is literally steps from the subway. More then anything it's the price vs facilities that can't be beat. For the same $$ you'd be staying in generic corporate hotels that are uglier, less clean and grumpy. There's also coffee and tea served all day, which is nice. The elevator is slow and they no longer serve breakfast.
nice folks, good location, good free coffee very uncomfortable bed, low grade cheap bed linens, old carpet floor, bad lighting in room.
Rooftop view was amazing. Staff were great. Beds are extremely uncomfortable. If you need to iron clothes good luck. Room was not like the picture extremely small.
Friendly staff No lamps, bedside tables or shelves, or closet space
Great location. Modern & sleek design. Easy access to subways & taxis. Unprofessional staff. They were hanging out with hotel guests while on duty. Very small rooms. The bed barely fit lengthwise in the room. Couldn't even lay my bag down. Noise from street & hotel hallway, not great sound proofing in rooms.
This cozy hotel was awesome--location, kind & helpful staff, etc. Was lucky to get a room with large outside terrace..perfect for a night of summer rain. Romantic!
Fantastic location in the Lower Eastside as it was situated within easy walkung distance of good bars and resturants. The room was comfortable and a good size.
This hotel is everything that the description says - lovely, characterful building, comfortable bed, great shower (and a bathtub) and I was so grateful for the aircon! Many hotels turn it off when you go out and you return to a nasty hot room - not the case here! I had one of the smaller rooms, but it was still huge, and beautifully furnished. Good to have real coffee in the room too. I also loved the neighbourhood, close to Little Italy, Chinatown and the Lower East Side, there are lots of interesting things to see and do (and eat!) and it felt very safe. It was a pleasure to stay here. China for breakfast would be nice. Paper cups and plastic plates somehow didn't fit - not very environmentally friendly either. I didn't spot the juice and fresh milk for three days - maybe the breakfast area could be arranged better, or maybe I'm just not very observant!
friendly staff breakfast
We liked Blue Moon's location in a fascinating neighborhood, our spacious and comfortable room, and the historic and lovingly renovated building. Helpful staff gave us a warm welcome. This is a high-end boutique hotel at reasonable rate - a true find!
the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was good for my purposes.
Staff, situation in NY Poor breakfast, no working internet
Good price Tiniest thing I've ever seen. Can't turn lights off. Loud. Adjacent to loud train.
staff gave excellent recommendations for activities/meals
It was convenient to what we were doing in New York on the lower East Sise. The lobby area was cold and not conducive to relaxing.
Liked the atmosphere of the hotel.. artistic yet cosy? not in particular... location is a bit off from Midtown, but then again that was the reason for choosing this hotel in the first place, as we needed to get on a bus in Chinatown early next morning. Which was convenient as it was a walking distance away.
Boutique atmosphere, interesting art ... convenient in the area, low key. I would return. Breakfast was light on items but I'm not a big breakfast person .
location (lots of restaurant, bars and caffes; very close to subway F), price, hotel staff; at night, it might be a bit noisy during week-ends.
great location, comfortable bed overpriced, noisy--rooms entry is right next to the elevators.
New hotel with small rooms, location is excellent. Would recommend hotel. Rooms are small. Would be difficult with suitcases.
Amazing quality at lovely hotel in the best area of New York! My boyfriend and I spent two nights at this hotel for Veteran's Day 2010. From the start, the reception staff was extremely polite, courteous and friendly. Because our requested room was not available, we were kindly upgraded to a king room for one night without extra charges. We stayed on the 9th and 7th floors and on both nights we enjoyed comfy, immaculate rooms and quiet views of the city- despite being in a very lively area with many nightlife hot spots. We were also made extremely happy by the iPod dock, coffee maker in the room, and free breakfast. You won't find any better quality in New York! Would definitely come back! I wish our stay was longer.
comfort of bed the area around the hotel is very dirty (NYC needs to clean its sidewalks and gutters)
