We ended up with an executive suite that was superlative – and the best possible view down to the center of busy Madrid. La Rotonda is a wonderful bar for drinks, food and people-watching. Great location and helpful staff.
Cons: We originally booked a “courtyard view” room. It turned out to have a window facing the outside top of the Rotonda dome and green plastic sheeting to mimic grass. Don’t expect these rooms to actually face what you think of as a courtyard – better to choose the more expensive rooms if you care about the view.

Cons: I got bullfight tickets for over the price ticket. Actually six times more. Usually cost €47.50 each ticket and Westin Palace got the tickets for me at €300 each. Nobody told me that they were overpriced. I paid and same day tried to return them but Westin Palace Concierge couldnt or would not help me. I was dissapointed.

Cons: In a heatwave in Madrid, AC in our room is barely working. I spent 3 nights with this issue & the last night I couldn't sleep. We told the staff at the 1st day but nothing changed. All what you hear is sorry to know that. I am really disappointed & I can't call this hotel 5stars or even 4 stars. I have tried many hotels in Spain & Madrid & this is the worst experience.

Cons: Our room had electrical failures. The phone didn't work. The air conditioning didn't work well. It is controlled from a master room and not inside the room itself. It was not a bad experience but this is not even close to a five star hotel.

If all hotels used this one as an example of how to deal with customers from the point you enter it, travelling would be a lot more pleasant. It is the little things that they do so well and always cheerfully, they respond, they are good at what they do from the restaurant to the bar to reception and the doorman and porter. I dont know how they do it, but they need to keep the secret and keep it going!!

Cons: - The rooms are very small and are more fit for one person (the toilet and shower are part of the room and their doors are transparent don't close all the way). - a bit far from nightlife attractions such as pubs and clubs (require a taxi when you come back from a nightout) - The service in the pool is unpleasant (the bartenders are a bit unfriendly) - They allow external guests into the pool on weekends and it was too crowded and no facilities available (all the chairs were taken).

The lobby cafe is instagram worthy and the level of attention guests receive is very high. Guest receive free access to the sought after rooftop bar and there is also a very special surprise in the basement that guests can find for themselves. The breakfast was excellent with a selection of eggs, smoked salmon, bacon etc which they made freshly for you. There was also a lovely buffet with breads, churros, ham, cheese, yoghurt and fresh fruit and they had a good selection of gluten free products. The location of the hotel is excellent, right on the Gran Via so you are in the centre for shopping, the Prado Museum is about 15 minutes walk away and Plaza Mayor about 5 minutes walk. It took us approx 30 minutes in a taxi from the airport which cost 30 euros. The room was spotless and very comfortable with very good air conditioning.

Cons: Some minor issues: We did ring the wrong doorbell first, but was directed to the correct entrance. The warm water in shower tends to disappear after a few minutes. Wifi signal strength is not great. An additional electrical plug point in the room would have been welcome and a sport TV channel would have been a bonus.

Cons: This hotel doesn’t seem like a five star to me, definitely a solid four. There was a luke-warm reception when arriving, no one was at the door and there was no one to assist with bags or show us the room. Overall it wasn’t a very welcoming experience. There was a similar experience when trying to check out. The main receptionist at the desk was dealing with another guest however there was another receptionist (or staff member) at a different desk busy on her computer and ignoring me. I just placed my room keys on the desk and left as I couldn’t wait too long. There is also no valet parking, something which is usually quite common for five star properties (certainly is the case for the Villa Real which I’ve stayed at). I parked at the NH car park down the road and tried querying with staff whether there were any discounts due to us staying at an NH hotel. This was something which was never answered.

Cons: I was travelling alone so got given single room. It was the smallest room I have ever stayed in and paid just under €100 for it. The room was cramped the bed was the length of the whole room. I will never stay at a Tryp hotel again.

Cons: The hotel needs an URGENT renovation. Rooms furniture (better quality mattress included), toilets, etc. Felt I was in a very average hostel Not a single small complimentary bottle of water. Check in took long and staff was just correct, not felt welcome at all. We booked 2 rooms. Both the same standard.

Cons: The hotel was great; HOWEVER, there was construction right outside the hotel and it continued throughout the entire night. I am not a light sleeper but I could not sleep AT ALL. I know it is not the fault of the hotel, but I couldn't give it a high rating

Cons: Breakfast is not served there, I had to walk about 450m to the place where it’s served and no one has ever told me about that prior to breakfast time, which made me be late for my appointments. I’m glad it wasn’t raining. Also the toilet in the bedroom wasn’t clean and there was no toilet paper from a certain time on. The bedroom wasn’t that clean either and the huge number of empty bottles of water showed that they don’t really care about keeping the bedroom looking good and clean. Plus, in 7 years staying frequently in hostels all over the world I’ve never met such noisy roommates, mostly young men, talking loudly, eating and listening to music inside the bedroom after 11pm, probably because there wasn’t any sign or warning about quiet times, not even any info about it upon check in.
