Pros: "As expected from JAL, the flight was amazing in every way. The food (the Japanese meal) was not typical airline food, it was actually very good. The courtesy packets had many useful items including eye refreshers, lip balm, and the bathrooms were kept very clean and stocked with both mouthwash and toothbrush/paste. All together as flawless and comfortable an experience as possible on a commercial carrier."

Despite our offering of evidence of our other ticket from Osaka to TPE (3/3-3/8 round trip) showing that it was not a no-show, and we have phone records of calling JAL on 3/1. Nevertheless, their customer care center in CHINA was firm that it cannot be done. The money has been wasted. Ridiculous service for a 3,500 business class ticket."

Cons: "Flight was delayed in to HK. The restaurant staff (not airline staff) came round offering HK$ 75 to each passenger for a snack. This much appreciated, but I wondered why a restaurant worker was doing this, not airline staff. Being delayed into Osaka, the captain kindly told us that buses were arranged. Good! I thought, until the organization was seen. Ground staff were no where to be seen. Eventually found them huddled at one arrival gate directling passengers to buses. Other passengers at the other arrival gate similarly swirling around without info or help. staff unhelpful, rude, uncaring. SHOCKED by level of incompetence."

Cons: "I have been a gluten-sensitive foodie for 7 years. I am not vegetarian. I still eat sugar, salt, spices, dairy, and fat. I have order a GF special meal for the past 3 or 4 trips I’ve flown but I always end up asking for one of the regular meals instead because the GF meals are SO awful. They are completely devoid of all salt, sauces, spices or any flavor, and are so bland that it’s like eating astronaut cardboard food. For example...the last flight I took (Manila-San Francisco), the regular meal options were a chicken sausage dish with some mashed potatoes and veggies, a wonderful colorful julienne vegetable salad, a flan pudding (GF by nature) and some bread with butter. The other option was a delicious smelling pork belly over rice (seriously some of the best pork belly I’ve ever had) and some veggies with the same sides. Everything was gluten-free except for the bread roll and looked much more colorful and fresher overall. By contrast, the GF “special” meal that I received was a plain chicken breast with no salt, steamed veggies that were overcooked and mushy to the point of colorless baby food, with no spices or sauces, a watered-down fruit salad, a rice cake with no butter and a banana instead of dessert. I was amazed at how bland and flavorless it was. Gluten-free does not mean sugar-free, low-fat, or dairy free. It simply means the absence of wheat flour. I still like sauces and spices. And I still like butter. A non-fruit dessert would have been nice. And since when does gluten-free mean flavor-free? I would have MUCH rather preferred the regular meal option with just a gluten-free rice cake substitute. Thank god they had extra regular meals for me to eat instead. Point being…if you’re not extreme celiac and just gluten-sensitive, I recommend ordering off the regular menu and just omitting the bread roll. The flavorless meal isn’t worth it!"

Hawaii to Manila and back, you had to down load an app onto your phone prior to leaving for any in flight entertainment, on your phone only. Terrible food. This was my worst flying experience ever and I do 4 international trips a year. Save time and money, fly another airline even if it means a connecting flight, you will still get there quicker. Cons: "Of the four total flights, to include connections, Philippine Airlines was delayed on all legs. The delays were all after boarding and while sitting in plane. Delays ranged from 30 minutes to 75 minutes and all four flight delays were reported to be due to delays in getting baggage on the planes or getting the meals loaded on the planes according to the pilot's reports. Of note, on all four flights, the crew ran out of food before getting to our isle and had only one option remaining with no alternatives for those allergic to any portion of the meal. I would absolutely never recommend Philippine Airlines to anyone. The reduced cost of tickets was absolutely not worth the experience."
