The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. Our hotel room was clean, quiet and we enjoyed the duvets on the bed. I would recommend this hotel to others. Close to transit with the bus and muni lines just outside of hotel. Only downfall about the hotel was there was hardly any restaurants close by. The attached hotel was ok - a little on the pricey side and not kid friendly. The restaurant staff was not friendly at all. There was about a 2 block stretch that was between the hotel and downtown. Lots of homeless - but nothing to be afraid of.
We expected a two-star but it was a three star, right across from the Orpheum Theatre, not so far from Union Square, and the Manager quickly made a slight change to our booking when we asked.
Interesting and historical hotel near city center. Market Street is no longer so pleasant as it was before.
Fiendliness of staff and security No tea making facility, paying for internet access, no breakfast included. Location on Market St was a bit scary while walking.
The room is big. The bed is comfortable. It looks long history. It was too noisy outside, maybe there is a anti-fire center nearby, for our sleep were broken by the noise every night. It was really terrible. And there was a door between two rooms each side with a lock. One night our neighbor was stranged by the door and tried to find things behind it. This made us uncomfortable.
Bell hop and concierge is often rude. Lots of homeless outside on market St but they are harmless. Security guards make sure trey don't come in.
Location of the hotel Staff...very unpolite
The fact that it was so close to the street car pick up! The diner across the street was amazing! if you go there get the T- Rex.
was easy to get to Had to send breakfast back on a few occasions :-(
The beds were very comfortable. The hotel should provide bottled water in the rooms for staying guests.
Not far from the city center Hotel is not clean, Looks old, Have to wait hours for very slow elevators, Wi-Fi almost nonexistent, Showers are in poor condition They charge you 5$ for calling the front desk!!!
Location is central a little the wrong side of town but this is why it is cheap I thnk if you can go along with the crazies around its fine. Beautiful hotel well above its class rating with lovely staff Just the number of homeless people that seem to congregate near the hotel its fine if you can live with it they do make up the fabric of the city
Staff was excellent. Area of the hotel. Not an area I would walk around.
Increased price at booking by 15%. Quoted price $135/night became $220 after increase, taxes, and enormous $42 parking fee. Tried to cancel, they wouldn't allow that.
The staff and restaurant were excellent Being a guest and having to pay extra for parking. Makes staying in the city to expensive because you don't really want to walk anywhere in that area at night
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Parking garage is $45 Small restroom and no fridge
Rooms are clean, communal areas are clean. But its a basic stay, good for if you need to be in the area and do not require more than a comfortable bed. Location not ideal. Far from downtown. Room was made daily, though we expressed that an attendant should not enter the room (not a big deal).
Rooms looked fairly newly renovated. Homeless receive free services next door so they're everywhere and they're aggressive. NOT a place I'd bring a family to stay if enjoying SF.
Typical chain hotel amenities, and comfy bed. Good location. Housekeeping came in the room at 7am to me pushing them out saying come back later. If she had it her way she'd clean around me and make me into the sheets go get her job done. Hidden fees. Add $100 extra to your bill for "taxes and other costs". Parking is $50 a night
ThemIss come into your room even when the privacy sign is in. She didnt eve knock just barged right in! Not comforting if your trying to leave your room at all while on vacation.
Room had at least two flies at all times. Sheets may may not have been changed. Restaurant food was like pay x4 the price of Denny's but the same quality
They staff was courteous at all times. The windows opened fully and let in a fantastic breeze. The beds were comfy and had blankets with enough heft to be soothing. The extra pillows where easy to find. The bed, nightstand, desk, dresser were beautiful, authentic, intact, and matched vintage pieces that I would have taken home with me and been very proud to display in a guest room. It had a very vintage feel that harkened to old fashioned glamor. We got our room key and went to our room to find it still being cleaned. Our reservation was for 3, but only had 2 sets of towels. The shower curtain didn't contain water. The windows didn't have screens. The bedside lamp lacked an outlet, but looked nice on the table. We had to leave early, apparently our walking (quietly, we aren't totally inconsiderate) was too much for the room below us, and she knocked on our door to tell us as much. The steam radiator was less than 6 inches from the head of the bed, it was on full blast, there were no instructions for use anywhere. The space between the edge of the bed and the desk wasn't enough to pass between without turning sideways. The area of town is sketchy at best, but that's my fault for not researching fullly. The was no parking. After paying valet, trying to access the building from the parking lot to get our things was 1) completely un assisted, no bellhop, no trolley, but that also means I didn't have to tip. 2) required walking through the bowels of the building through a contorted, narrow hallway, past the bins, across a lose grate down a sandbagged path into a gated valet lot. They did try to at least disguise the bins with some wonderful displays of jades and succulents that are obviously well tended and treasured by someone. Nothing was intolerable, there's very little the hotel can do about the downtown noise and hustle or the surrounding environment. I might stay there by myself for a thrifty weekend get away if I had plans to only need a place to lay my head, but I wouldn't bring my daughter back there again. Ever.
Good location, good price. Bare bones. You get a room and a bathroom and that's about it. I usually see a room as a place to sleep, so it didn't bother me too much, but I could see how other people might be unhappy. No AC, no coffee machine, small room, old building, old plumbing.
the rooms didn't smell good. There was a lot of noise in the alley and in the next rooms.
Staff was friendly and accomidating. My car was safe, and I could see it from my window. It did the job, I stayed by myself for 1 night anyways. It had a faint smell of... plastic?? I don't know what it was, but I smelled it. If you're coming with a family, I don't recommend going down Balboa. I got offered to buy weed by 3 different guys. PARKING ISN'T FREE ANYMORE! I paid 30$, but it was worth it. They close the gate, so I felt very safe leaving my car there.
I liked the location for travel purposes, however the tv in our room did not work. Took a little complaining before we were relocated.
Nothing I burnt my leg taking a shower. I was cold. There was no central heating so I took a hot shower. The hotel said hey would refund me one night stay and have not done so. I spoke to bill and Mary and nothing. I'm very upset
We were sight seeing and Bill gave us excellent advise on how to see the city. We had a late flight out of town and we were able to travel around town until early evening and they kept our luggage and arranged for our transportation to the airport.
Terrible customer service. Rude.
Wonderful staff in very good location (especially for the price!)
The floors creeked everywhere you walked.
The hotel is centrally located near everything. The staff is nice and the facility is kept clean. No AC; and, we had to sleep with the windows open. While sleeping with the windows open is not bad, we had to put up with the noisy city life.
My experience with the Embassy Hotel was terrible and a complete disappointment. The iconic part about the experience is that it had nothing to do with the actual stay because when myself and my friends arrived , we were informed that they overbooked and they were moving us to the Oasis Inn. When we got to the property, our room was run down compared to what we paid for a room at the Embassy Hotel and our bathroom toilet was clogged. In fact, the front desk attendant informed us that we should just unclog it ourselves. On top that, we were expected to pay the same rate as if we were staying at the Embassy Hotel. The rest of the evening of our first day of vacation was spent looking for another hotel. Overall, customer service at The Embassy Hotel was absent in that they didn't care where they placed us, unapologetic for overbooking, and didn't provide any compensation for their blunder. Bad customer service, mistreatment of the guests, and a lack of human compassion - that's the Hotel Embassy experience.
Hotel has a nice out fashioned look to it. It was well maintained and clean. The hotel provided a very simple complimentary breakfast. The hotel is located in a bad neighborhood so we didn't really feel safe walking outside it. The price was too high given the quality of rooms and location.
Very friendly and individual stuff members. Very cool ambient.
The staff were great - very friendly and very helpful. The hotel is surrounded by gangs, drug dealers, prositiutes, homeless people, drunks and drug addicts. Quite the walk home. An overpriced motel in a bad neighbourhood,
Restaurant/bar Walking from Bart to hotel the streets were littered with crack heads and heroine users. Dozens were using right in front of us and some were passed out with needles in their arm. One was passed out in front of the lobby enterance. Also, hotel bar and restaurant closed on Sunday and Monday.
I like to be serviced with the good manner by chinese room cleaning women. They all are really good.
The set up of the hotel was great. There is a heated pool on the middle, with swimming up until midnight. You can still swim even when it very cold outside. All the room doors face each other, which makes for a fun, friendly atmosphere. The eatery on site is AMAZING! I'm not kidding when I say this, it was probably one of the best places I've eaten. It's filled with old record albums and has a cool, sexy vibe. My husband was playing in a show/concert that night so we were all able to walk to the Regency Ballroom...it's very close. To have free parking right outside so you have access to your car is almost unheard of and very convenient. This is the place for fun, and they do quiet everything down after midnight. Don't go here for peace and relaxation though. It is not for that. It's for fun swimming, good accommodations, location, eating and enjoying life. The staff was amazing and we really appreciated them being so nice and welcoming. They seemed genuinely happy to see us..for real! For a fun night out in the city this is now my go to place and if that's what your looking for this is the best spot. I also saw a bunch (I mean about 5 groups) of bachelorette parties. This a super place for that and for eating brunch or going out for drinks. Only drawback is it could use some minor updating, but not enough to not want to stay there. It's overpriced a bit but so is every place in SF. It's worth the money so get your bathing suit, or not, and go rock out!
Very clean, comfortable beds, nice washroom, refregerator, close to seaside. Brekfest poor, self served at reception.
Hotels eco efforts and the super staff appreciated. Windows can't really be shut tight so the heat and noise can be an issue.
Wonderful, responsive staff. Room was a little small. Breakfast was very fresh.
The location of this hotel within the city Complimentary breakfast Amenities Hotel Staff
Kind staff Too small room than the price I paid
Nice staff and clean hotel. Very nice complimentary breakfast. entranxe and lobby area tastefully decorated. Inadequate closer space & barely any drawer space. Very short sink in bathroom. Sink is fine for people 5'6 and below. Room was very stuffy due to small size so window needed to be cracked open. Problem with window being own is lots of noise outside.
The continental breakfast was nice (nothing amazing, but a decent selection). Free WiFi was a good feature (but it is too slow to stream anything). Location 10 minutes from a BART was convenient and two blocks away is a nice strip of small restaurants. This was NOT a 3.5 star place. It was dated and the room was small and there was no air conditioning. I know the Bay area does not get hot often, but it meant to stay comfortable you had to keep your window open and that meant hearing traffic all night.
Good continental breakfast, helpful staff, complimentary cookies that were tasty, clean room, eco-friendly, microwave/fridge/silverware in room No central heat/AC, street noise

The best thing about this hotel was that they offered cookies in the late afternoon, and all day tea/coffee. Room and beds are small. No air conditioning in the room. In room coffee was not replenished. Bathroom very outdated. Room service did not clean the room, all they did was make the bed. The elevator is old and frightening. Staff is very curt with guests.

The room was adorable, spacious, clean, and comfortable. The staff was super friendly. The 24/7 coffee and water was a nice touch as were the 3pm cookies. The hotel and experience overall far exceeded my expectations.

Tiny roomNoisy , No ac Expensive Parking
The hotel was clean and conveniently located for a 5 minute bus ride to Moscone Center. The hotel is in a dangerous part of town.
The position is good considering the proximity to town center. Parking facility ok The position is bad since the area is filled with beggar and bad faces, particularly during late evening. The structure would need a general refurbishment
Great location, Clean, Even though it was on a busy street the rooms were very quiet.
it was close to Slim's, which was good because that's the reason we booked a room there. there's a bar across the street where we got drunk. that was cool. the parking lot smelled like urine.
The manager was really friendly, location is perfect - only short walk to the city centre, parking available at site. The area is a bit shaby, not really safe I guess. Continental breakfast is not really what was offered, more just coffeebuns and coffee.
Friendly staff, comfortable beds, big rooms
Free internet access. Free parking. Room clean. Poor breakfast. Not fancy neighborhood.
In spite of the location, my off-street room was surprisingly quiet
Great staff. Attentive to all needs. Clean quiet. Location is around a lot of homeless, but the room are secure and not available to anyone except guests.
free internet and free parking included in price rooms are a bit worn down
I was pleasantly surprised at what good value for money it was being so conveniently located to downtown San Francisco. Free parking too. I was given a smoking room rather than a non smoking.
I didn't like anything of this hotel. It was not clean, the staff wasn't friendly and sometimes the staff wear pyjamas. In front of the rooms there were sometimes wanderers in front of the hotelroom. The prices of the hotelroom was too expensive.
location most hostels I've stayed in were nicer. apparently they got new locks on the doors, counter to other older reviews, they seemed capable. noise was horrible, all night.
Crack needles and graffiti
They give you your own roll of toilet paper... Everything was dirty! The walls were disgusting. The bed was hard and covered in plastic. The bathroom... I'd rather pee in the street, like everyone else was doing. There are windows in the bathrooms on the first floor. Had some chick crawl through the window into the men's stall right before I was about to do my business. you have to step past transients fighting to get to the door, and wait to be buzzed in. There is no parking. Unless you want to park three blocks over and carry your stuff. Wouldn't recomend that. There were needles and razor blades on the street behind this place. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Location No tv
Do not stay here under any circumstances. Room stank and had no bathroom only 1 sink. Disgusting corder view outside window full of garbage and bird poop. Window couldn't lock. LOUD banging occurred in the hotel ALL NIGHT. Public restrooms and showers were filthy and nasty like out of a horror movie. Do yourself a favor, pay a little more and say at another hotel
This place is a hole; no way to describe how bad it was. Just stay away.
Nothing. Just the position was fine because central 1. People playing music at night. 2. The bed was dirty 3. The bedroom was dirty 4. The shawer was with no soap handling
We did not stay we ended up finding another hotel and leaving this one. Everything
Communal bathroom without a sink
We couldn't fall asleep for hours because the walls were so paper thin. We had to open a window because the rooms were so small that we became claustrophobic. We left the next morning with tons of bug bites. Not to mention, we paid $75 for this room, and got a way better one on our travel for $50.
My money back it was scary and disgusting someone riding a bike up and down the hallways drug addicts hanging out from the front door to the hallways all nite no peace The whole experience you should be ashamed to even offer such a non refundable dump I want my refund
There was a bed. No parking. Room was tiny. Bed had blood stains on sheets. Shared bathrooms were disgusting.
Accommodation for backpackers only. If it is not you case, go find a hotel. There was no parking area nearby the hostel after 9pm. The neighborhood is dangerous at night. If you are traveling by car, definitely do not park your car in the street. My car side window was broken during the night and my gps (which was hidden inside the car) was stolen. I was informed by hostel staff about the gang activities at the neighborhood only after the incident.
The staff is helpful to my needs, but the location was a bit scary for solo traveler (gals) Bed was rough, I had a hard time falling to sleep. The bed was so hard on the top bunk. Waking up with a stiff back! There weren't parking at site. I had to go a block away for it. It was an uneasy feeling to felt while traveling there.
nice other travellers, central position, tv in the kitchen, kitchen also nice as meeting point with other people rude lying, stealing, bad staff. was pretty bad organized, people had to change roomes like every day while reserving 7 days or even more without any obvoius reasons.no communication between staff at all which partly doesnt speak any english-way too bad to solve the problems which come up like every day based on a stupid way of trying to run a hostel without the idea of what it means to comfort people.disgusting dirty fridge and dirty beds.even the computer wasnt working correctly. besides using exel to organize everything like living in the stone ages almost no room and enough knowledge in english language to discuss or solve problems-a mostly smiling like insane group of indian people without any skills- even if they try hard sometimes.c.
none could not sleep all night. it is my first time sharing a room with three other people. ventilation was poor. and there are small insects bothering me all night.
i lost my stuff after cleaner cleaned my bed. so i advice that everyone should not put your stuff on the bed.
Just awfull!!! My plane was late, so I was late to check in (it was like 1 A.M.). So, I called to hostel to ask if they would let me in or I should stay in airport for night. They've said they would let me in. Guess what happened when I arrived to the hostel? Yes, nobody opened. Well, I waited for 40 minutes outside keeping ringing the bell, got cold, my vacation was ruined 'cuz next day I began caughing and blah-blah- blah. Next morning when I finally got my key, I was surprised that in my room it's not much warmer than outside. It was dirty, showers and restrooms are always occupied. just terrible place to stay in!
