Parking very very very expensive
Very friendly service. Very convenient location. Very good value.
Location in the center Hotel very impersonnal, nothing in the bbathroom, such as shower cap, glass,or shower gel.
very poor internet connectivity despite high prices for it
The tavern in the hotel was fantastic and upscale; excellent choice. The room was spacious and comfortable for a family. The lobby and hallways are a bit sterile, could use more modern, less noisy design.
The location was really the best and only great thing about this hotel. I still can't believe they don't have valet parking. At over $200 this place should be able to park your car. To have to pay over $100 to park my own car is the main reason I will never retrurn to this hotel
Convince cleanness nice restaurant The expensive fee for flippin parking in your garage felt like we got robbed leaving S.f
dark room with a small window
It was walking distance to the club we went to. The bathroom wasn't as clean as it could have been.
Smoking room Too many conferences
Room was really big and comfortable. Location is very convenient for shopping and entertainment in SF. Wifi is not included and has to be paid separately.
Clean luxurious room Lobby gets a bit busy as it has bar area open for all to use Room was not checked and had a few teething issues, but quickly resolved
The location was very convienent. I chose to park down the street and save $30 for over night parking. Nice pillows and comfy bed. This hotel is really small the room was giving me an allegric reactions I could not breath, until we forced the window open. The shower curtain and shower smelled really bad. That was gross. I will not be staying here again.
Room was nothing special the lobby and bar were cool The room was was average and bathroom was very old decore
The bed was very comfortable. The room was dark with the curtains pulled closed. I stayed at the Clift this past weekend with my wife for a "staycation" away from the Oakland grind we call our normal lives. A few concerns with the Clift Hotel. When we arrived we were unsure about how the valet worked since there are no signs or "red jackets" (they wear black). We had to circle the block and call to find out what the deal was. It's also expensive, $52+ tax per night. Once we were in the Hotel we were told that our room wasn't ready, which was completely fine since we arrived 3 hours prior to check in time. We happily checked our bag and went for a stroll around union square. The problem is that the woman at the counter said we should expect a phone call with in the hour when our room was ready. We waited the hour and then another hour. No call. We then returned to the Hotel at 3pm and were told by the same women that it "should be ready within the hour."This would take us up to check in time...Finally at 4pm we complained and a manager upgraded us to a Jr. Suite and promptly gave us the keys. Sales Training: under promise and over deliver, not the other way around. Finally we arrive in our room and its pretty nice. It was on the 15th floor and the view was pretty urban SF high life. We were happy. The tub and painted surfaces were chipping and sup par. apparently this room costs $450+ per night, If I paid that I expect a little more attention to detail and quality. We dined at the Velvet Room, the Hotel's restaurant. We were offered a cold and breezy table next to the hallway leading to the bar but were happily seated in a lovely booth when we requested that. Dinner was delicious. The Redwood Room, their high shelf bar, is always crowded and all seating is reserved for $350+ bottle service. The common areas are nice, warm, and cozy. The room is three star. The overall experience is ok, we'll try another place next month and report back.
Old & tired Tired
The staff and location were both excellent, the bar is also fun (and the reason I knew about the hotel to begin with). There sure are a lot of interesting chairs around! Room service was prompt and the food was tasty. The bed is comfortable and the rooms have pretty good noise control. The rooms are in dire need of updating. We stayed in a studio so the size was good, but things just seemed old. The walls needed touch up paint, the bathtub was peeling (about a 10'' section was missing plaster), the grout was stained, the hair dryer must be from 1985, the thermostat is old making it hard to control room temperature, the faucet was probably really awesome 20 years ago, but now it is difficult to get it in the "off" position, not good in a state experiencing a drought.
The room and hallways where dark, the bathrooms are in bad shape (old and rusty), the tv was small and didn't have on demand. It used to be THE PLACE TO STAY in SF... Not anymore...needs a remodel urgently.
Great food, staff and service. Valet took a little long.
Expensive mini bar, breakfast etc
Classy Good room service food Hidden cost for valet parking - $52 a night Hidden cost for a 50 cent aux cord - $100 deposit Hidden cost for more than 5 glasses ordered for guests House keeping failed to clean my room one day when I called them before leaving for the day specifically asking them to tidy up No Hot tub or pool
Great vibe in the hotel bar. Room service was slow, found a hair in my food, ordered a Coke three times and never got it, was provided with only a comforter and fitted sheet on my bed, food wasn't very good.
Superb location right in the heart of San Francisco's Union Square area, excellent restaurants and shopping nearby. Beautifully decorated room that was quiet and serene. Standard room king was quite small. No room for more than a couple.
I loved the large room! The space was great. Loved the airy feel.
Very spacious room, good housekeeping service. Nice common area for breakfast and evening wine (complimentary). Decent location on the edge of the Tenderloin, no problems walking up Post St from Union Square around midnight. Very old carpets, very poor wi-fi connection.
The staff was friendly and greeted us each time we returned. Happy hour was a nice opportunity to meet other guests and unwind before dinner. The rooms could use some simple updates (ie. New bed spreads)
Close to all main San Fran attractions. Hotel has no Bar or Dining facilities & the partner 'Pub' the White Horse is a dirty let down.
Close to shopping and away from touristy areas like fisherman's wharf.
The room has potential to be a great SF destination. plenty of room. Mini Kitchen stocked with reasonably priced snacks and drinks. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. Wow! The place was noisy. There was a loud group on the street that so loud that I could not sleep. That is the only reason that I did not give excellent reviews for comfort. I called the front desk, but the group never quieted down. And the group was using the N word like Donald Sterling.
Great location, lovely hotel, comfortable and clean rooms, friendly staff. Really adds great value to a nice San Francisco holiday. Pretty close to everywhere in downtown as well.
- location was nice - did a complementary happy hour which was nice - expensive for the amenities and services - no air conditioner, so had to keep windows open which was noisy facing a busy street - uncomfortable bed with only two pillows -mediocre breakfast (not very good pastries) -expensive parking -expensive room occupancy tax
Location is perfect and room was a good size
Very clean hotel. Comfortable beds, friendly staff. Big spacious rooms. Breakfast was good, wine in the afternoons was a plus. I recommend this hotel to everyone. Overall I loved this hotel and would stay over and over again. Only thing that was a bit of a nuisance was the street noise when the windows were open but it is to be expected. We are in the city.
Wine and cheese reception. Location. Room decor.
Desk service, cleanliness, wine and cheese, coffee and fruit
Comfortable bed; easy to take advantage of sightseeing; walking is convenient; complementary breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese is very satisfying. Noise outside building; very small bathroom; closet inside bathroom; use of bathroom light requires also use of noisy fan.
The staff is very friendly and helpful Poor ventilation in bathroom
The location The staff wasn't very helpful at all. Requested to have our bags taken up to the room after a hour of waiting had to go back down and get my own bags.
Staff was extremely professional and super nice! The hotel was centrally located to everything and the room was really cool! Loved it!!
I loved the game room and all of the stylish touches to the room! The color schemes felt good and the staff was very pleasant. I did not like the elevator. Way too small. I also could smell a stinch throughout the hotel like old moth balls. Just being honest. Also, just my opinion, but I think the hotel should offer breakfast. While I do appreciate the espresso in the room (which was delicious), I'd rather have food; if I can't have both.
It was totally worth the money in the location that it was in. I really like the old charm it brought out. Staff was very helpful and professional. Not an issue with me, but I do understand the complaints about the one elevator when there is two in the lobby.
We loved this hotel. The game room downstairs was a huge hit with the whole family. The location cannot be beat.
A bit cramped but functional
The decor was cool and the game room was a great feature. The walls were EXTREMELY thin...we could hear people talking in the lobby below us, and could hear every word people spoke in the hallways. That's my only complaint.
All of the fixtures (bed, shower tile, bathroom sink, desk, desk chair, lights, desks, etc) were top notch. Room had water damage down the corner and smelled bad. AC didn't work well. Lighting was very dim and had to turn on all lights to make it decently lit. Front desk didn't tell me about the amazing adult arcade that's in the back of the building.
Was very confusing to get around to our room (was in another building) and there were a few scuff marks here and there on the walls and also the remote control had a chip/crack in the back.
The game room downstairs is fantastic. The rooms are mod in decor and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff is top notch. The place is just cool.
Great hotel - feels very luxurious, good staff, and complementary wine hour! Highly recommended. Our second visit and we'll definitely stay there again when in SF. Rooms could be larger. Area - although only a couple of blocks from Union Square - gets more edgy late at night, but that's how San Francisco works.
Doggy Birthday Party Oliver's 3rd birthday. Benefit for animals that assist. Great get together. My toilet clogged the 1st night. very uncomfortable sitiutation. I am not a large person. (get my drift). so it wasnt anything that should have caused a problem.
This hotel is well-located -- easy to walk to Union Square and Chinatown, walkable to the waterfront/Embarcadero, and a quick drive to the Mission, Golden Gate Park, etc. The staff could not be more pleasant and helpful. The lobby area is a nice place to lounge, and the rooms are comfortable. It would be really helpful to have coffee makers in the room or room service -- there is coffee in the lobby, but if you are traveling with kids or have an early morning, it is useful to have it in your room. I didn't care for the fact that the water bottles in the room had price tags. It would also be nice if the wine service rotated wines.
Location and decor.
It nicely located near Union Square. The staff were very helpful. The hotel was clean and well kept. Our room was very nice except no view but that was ok. The hotel has complementary bikes for guest to use (great way to get around the city). Very comfortable place to stay. Would stay there again.
Use the jaccuzzi, would have used the restaurant but it was too pricey. The people there seemed a bit stuffy, including the staff. When I asked a question it was like I was putting them out.
Hotel Monaco used to be one of my fav hotels in SF. This new Marker is horrible. They closed the spa, breakfast is extra charge. Parking costs 58 dollars. Short on staff to take phone calls. Take your business somewhere else.
I've stayed at this property several times and it's convenient and a great property. My room had a moldy smell that got worse over the two nights I stayed -- I haven't had this experience at a Monaco before ....
Location. Rooms were clean. Rooms small, older building, odd furnishings, no views. San Francisco has many great hotels but this is not one of them.
The staff really was fantastic and pretty much bent over backwards to accomodate us in almost anyway possible. Plus I learned after the fact they are really pet friendly. Thats good to remember for the future. When I booked through booking.com the description said that the room I was booking would have a jacuzzi tub. I was going on a romantic get away and booked this room for this price becaue I thought it would have a jacuzzi tub. The room was beautiful, but no jacuzzi tub and the bathroom was a bit small at that.
The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was clean and the rooms style was not bad. The hotel is close to union square and great area to walk around. The decor pillows on our bed were dirty. My bathroom shower towel was only changed once during my four night stay. I found the restaurant prices high and the waiters were not so nice.
The decor was cute, and the room cleanliness we immaculate. Hotel rooms in San Francisco are pretty small, and this is no exception. However, the reception area was luxurious and beautiful, perfect during their evening wine receptions. I could go on about the wonderful staff- really, all of them acted like they were my friends, excited to tell me all about the good shopping, eating, et nearby that I HAD to try ; ) They were right too!
Pillows were comfortable and thats about it. I travel often and ive never had such a tiny room, bathrooms were ridiculously small., literally had to be on top of the toilet to close the door. The hallways including the rooms smelled like a public restroom. Not amenities whats so ever. Surrounded by the homeless as soon as you walk outdoors. And the view of a cement wall was just amazing as well. I have had better accomodations at a Motel 6. Never again will i spend money at a Warwick Hotel. Next night i stayed at the Holiday Inn for the same price and had an amazing view of the city, bigger rooms, free wifi and just a bigger overall hotel.
* Boutique hotel * Many historic elements & touches * Nice friendly staff * Close to many attractions * Smelled like an old hotel * Corner of two busy streets in downtown San Fran meant it was loud at night * Rooms were small
excellent location, near to restaurants and shops! ver comfortable mattres an pillows. staff very friendly!
Clean and spacious Na
Nice hotel, nice staff but small enough to feel more boutique. Room are indeed small and their is a distinct smell, like a musky smell around the entire hotel including the rooms. It's a smell you can get used to and ignore but off putting to begin with. Smells of damp, dusty air.
Excellent location,Walgreens and liquor store just across the street, about a 4 block walk from the Bart station. Union square is even closer., very clean, food was great, above par cup of Coffee, helpful and engaging staff. Good bang for the buck One of the 2 elevators was broken the duration of the stay
Close to union square. Although the hotel stamp can help you save some parking fee, the parking fee is still high. The room smells not good. It obviously has the smell of old house.
location...not much more free wifi no gym. They partner with an off site gym but they charge $15/day/person. rooms are tiny; so are the beds.bathroom are extremely uncomfortable. i hate to say it, but it was not worth the money.
Great location. Small but lovely rooms. Some street noise.
The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. My girlfriend & I received a text message from the hotel upon arriving at SFO requesting what type of room we'd like. Upon arrival, we were able to check in hours early and were given a room fitting our request. Though the view wasn't anything to speak of, it absolutely inspired us to not get cabin fever. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom immaculate, both the heat and a/c worked famously and overall - our stay was great! The Warwick is close to the Financial District, Union Square and provides phenomenal bang for the buck!!
A very omfortable hotel, close to transport, restaurants, shopping, tourist activities. Very happy with it. n/A
Its proximity to the event I was attending. Noise levels high.. Internal/external
The staff was great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The elevator worked, the beds were comfortable, there was ample closet space, as well as a dresser and mini-fridge. There were coffee shops, pharmacies, and restaurants within a block or two of the hotel, which made it a great location. And the price, of course, was hard to beat. It's an old building, which comes with both charms and inconveniences. The old radiators, for example, pump out quite a bit of heat, which must be great on those cool, foggy days. If you stay over warmer days like I did, shutting them off and opening the window will bring the room back down to a comfortable level, albeit slowly. There are also no ventilation fans in the bathrooms, so they have louvered windows in the showers to keep the moisture levels down. This creates an interesting dichotomy of hot and cold in the same space. It took some getting used to. There were only two outlets in the room, which I've come to expect in older buildings. As a business traveler on a budget, you learn to travel with a power strip.
Central to Union Sq and cable cars. Easy transport very close to all other SF attractions. Very reasonable proce for all day valet parking
close to union square
The room was big by SF standards. All the staff we encountered were very polite, warm and attentive. They also accommodated my request for a quiet room off the street.they have valet parking and real room keys(when do you see that?).It was a nice old hotel with a very good location.
Very run down and supprised it was on booking.com as we have always had great hotels in the past this was very poor, very old and outdated in urgent need of a make over, rooms were very tiny and the bathroom was a joke would never stay here again, apart from one young lad on the desk the rest of the staff were as old as the hotel, very rude and unhelpful,if we had been staying in san francisco for any lenght of time we would of checked out and found a different hotel.
It was very convenient for Union Square, theatre district, shopping etc. The breakfasts were more than adequate, the pub atmosphere at the end of the day was very relaxing and very friendly. There was nothing to dislike, a little old fashioned, but for 2 oap's from uk was fine.
The hotel was fine. We did ask the staff for a quiet room, but instead got the (probably) most loud room. At the end of the hallway with aircon machines or what ever running all day/night making a lot of noise. The guy at reception said they stop at 10pm but they didn't. So he lied which I don't apreciate. For the rest reasonable hotel for the price. The man that checked us in, lieing about the noise in the room.
Very friendly staff, convenient location and nice area, clean, comfortable, great value for the room rates. None come to mind. Maybe tea and coffee faccilities in the room would be nice, but its not a major issue, it has a mini bar and the restaurant is just downstairs.
Excellent location. Good value for price. A bit out-of-date and needs makeover. Bathroom clean and modern. Furniture old. Noisy if room is near Tavern. Breakfast adequate. Lack of AC not an issue most of the year.
The best part of the stay was the convenient location to Union Square and the affordable price. When we used the valet parking (the only option for parking a car, and a pricey fee over and above the room charge), they assigned the car to the wrong room number, so at checkout time there was confusion and wasted time.
Great yellow accents. Great staff. Great breakfast food. Wish there were more food options and eating time.
room overall was very small, but looked very nice and clean. not much of a view in downtown San Francisco... we were staring right into someone else's hotel room in the adjacent building. solid room, great customer service. area underneath toilet lid seat was filthy
The hotel was close to centre of town and accessible to most attractions by foot or cable car. No coffee facilities in rooms and the room itself could have been a bit larger.
Everything was very nice and the staff was very friendly. I also liked check out time was 12PM without having to ask for a late check out.
The staff was willing to over and above to make their customers happy.
The yellow "pineapple" touches all around the hotel were adorable!! we stayed in the queen starlet room which was small but you'd hardly notice - it was laid out very well. Bathroom is very modern! Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. Our airconditioner didn't work the first night. The front desk offered to move us to a new room but we declined, hoping the window would provide some cool air. The next day our AC was fixed while we were out and we didn't have further problems. Also wish the the bed had a top sheet in addition to the fitted sheet - Sometimes the duvet was too warm.
Location, pineapple scent A ton of little creaky, old, uncomfortable things about this hotel add up to a tough place to sleep. This includes hard pillows, creaky pipes, random irregular sounds from the walls, a heat-happy thermostat, and so on
Its location was perfect to know downtown San Francisco.
This boutique hotel has so much charm. It was perfectly located for our many day exploration of SF. I also found it to be located in a hip area, being around the corner from the, reservations only, craft cocktail lounge Bourbon & Branch, and the best Thai restaurant (according to expats) in the city, Million Thai. I shopped many (endlessly beige and corporate) luxury hotels in the area, but was won over by this luxury hotel with personality. The room was very clean and quiet. We found the duvet and bed to be very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern with a wonderfully relaxing shower. The reported remodeling was complete when I visited and I found that the photos were an accurate portrayal of the rooms. I would not hesitate to book this hotel again, and would enthusiastically endorse it to friends and family.
After long days of walking and shopping, your great hot showers were the best part, followed by a little wine and cheese. Was great! The location is perfect! There was some funky smell coming up from the lower level... It wasn't overwhelming - just noticeable. It certainly won't stop me from coming back.
Service was great. They were very helpful.
This hotel is very charming in an old fashioned manner. Dark wood furniture, parquet floors, tiled bathroom, and shuttered windows. I stayed on the third floor facing the street in a deluxe queen room. I found there to be plenty of room to move around. The queen bed was very comfortable. Everything was cleaned spotlessly every day. Its proximity to Union Square made it an excellent base of operations, and I felt safe walking too and from it. The hotel's restaurant, Millenium, is a truly excellent vegetarian/vegan restaurant with a great bar. The food is phenomenal and the staff knowledgable and friendly. Continental breakfast included. Tequila shot on check-in and wine and cheese from 5-6pm! Reasonable WiFi. I will definitely stay again. Since I had a room facing the street, I did get some street noise in the early morning. It didn't bother me but if you are a light sleeper ask for a room in the back of the hotel--there's not much of a view anyway. WiFi signal strength was a little low in the room--good enough for email/web, not enough for VOIP/videochat. The continental breakfast had a limited selection (although that didn't bother me).
I had a really great first time experience at this hotel. One of the things that I liked about this hotel is that you don't feel like you're staying in a San Francisco boutique hotel (aka tiny, narrow walkways, tiny lobby's). I've been to SF a number of times and stayed in boutique hotels and after a while they get kind of eh. The JW Marriott was fantastic. It was clean, in a great location, and every one was helpful. The bathroom was very luxe, which is why I chose this hotel versus the Marroitt. I used the gym in the morning and it was clean and had your standard requirements for a gym. I would def recommend this hotel to others! I was a little bummed that our drain didn't close. I wanted to take a bubble bath but wasn't able to. I would have complained but we were only staying for one night
wonderful service from all employees
Concierge excellent, skyline lounge very nice, staff very courteous. Seating area in room very limited. Too small for price.
Super location. Nice staff. Clean. Internet not free. Public internet stopped working when I tried to use it
Friendly & helpful staff. Location, and Jaspers as an option for meals & drinks. A little worn, coffeemaker inroom,
This used to be a Kimpton Hotel and still has the cool factor that Kimpton brings to all its properties. Sadly, maintenance has waned since the hotel was sold to an investment company.
Great ambiance, very noce room & amenities, great restaurant & bar, helpful staff. All good, only exceptions- pricey parking, scary corner of town. Pricey parking, scary corner of town.
The hotel has lots of character, the lobby looks like the lobby of an old movie theater. The room also was furnished in period style, with a nice view. Very conveniently located near Market Street.
Staff were friendly. Lobby was nice. Close to union square. I quite liked te location. Room wasn't that clean, dust balls and items under the beds. Beds very soft as mattresses were old. Bathrooms looked very tired and were cramped. Wallpaper scuffed up badly. Needed remodel. Also there are a lot of homeless in this area, I got woken up every morning in the early hours with neurotic screaming and shouting from people sleeping outside.
I typically stay at a large chain hotel but couldn't get one on a short notice - the price was right and I really enjoyed taking a break from the same large business hotels. The lobby takes you to another place in time and everyone was very friendly. The room was clean and quaint. My colleague was staying at the much larger Hilton right across the street and loved the Serrano when he stopped by. It was a nice break from the usual and well worth it!
I really liked the architecture and our bellhop/concierge (they play double duty) was really nice. The rooms are small, which I expected from an old building. The mattresses are awful (truly, truly awful), which I din't expect and the price is high for low amenities and low quality. Also, the valet parking is $60/day. When we checked out, they asked how our stay was and I told them the mattresses were really uncomfortable and they just sort of ignored that. They probably hear it all the time. I won't stay there again.
Quiet with access to the theater district, Union Square and fine dining Bathroom a little small
Bed and quietness Location not the best, but it is San Francisco...
Location - excellent, v close to Union Sq/restaurants etc; staff - friendly/helpful Room - small, low on facilities eg no kettle for tea making; noisy pipes; hotel 'resort charge' of 20+ per day for wifi and coffee station in lobby is bit cheeky for tech capital of the world with over 100+ starbucks in city
Lovely spacious rooms and bathrooms, detailed and comfortable, great, and I mean great coffee in the lobby for mornings. The kind of hotel where you seat in the lobby and watch activity and relax. Just wonderful experience. Close to union square and Powell and market shopping and activity. It was perfect really!
Rooms were small but clean. Hotel was well kept for its age. Location is in a difficult side of town. Hidden costs such as a $22.00 tax. We made them take it off. $59.00 for parking we were not told about the cost. Then our account was charged other amounts we had no idea what they were.
Short walk from Union square. Wireless LAN connection was sloooow at peak times, i.e. anytime except during the night. Unacceptable if you are on a business trip and need to access your data through the Internet.
Convenient location, friendly staff. Worst wireless internet experience. Unreliable. Hotel is showing its age.
Efficient service, nice room.
We had a lovely corner room. Well appointed. Great bathroom and amenities. Breakfast was served exactly at the time specified. Nice turndown service. Friendly and helpful staff. There was quite a bit of noise coming up from Mason Street, well into the wee hours. I would recommend asking for a room on the other side of the hotel (we were on the 12th floor and it was still loud, though it was also a Saturday night).
It's a fancy hotel, well located, very close to Union Square, with several restaurants nearby and good sized rooms and parking on the premises.
Great location, lovely room with fantastic room, excellent location and helpful staff. We loved it!
Spacious and comfy room. Really good location. The wifi is too slow - almost non-functional and I couldn't work.
Location This is not a 4 star hotel. While it technically has amenities for 4 stars. This hotel is 10 years due for a renovation. Very disappointed with stay. Would recommend strongly against staying again. Shower like warm. Glassware not so clean. Included breakfast was powdered hot chocolate. Only good thing was parking much cheaper than most other hotels and room a bit bigger which did not come close to offsetting how disappointed I was walking in expecting a nice end to vacation room.
Location amenities, fans, noise, price
clean & spacious rooms. Good value for money in a great location
comfort and dvd in the room
Staff are friendly, helpful and knowlegable. Room was spacious and comfortable. Lack of access to hotel dining on Sunday and Monday nights- as a single female travelling alone this becomes a safety issue given the immediate location of the hotel
the room was comfortable ,the hotel staff were excellent.
The hotel was a better standar than I was expecting. The lobby was clean & fairly modern. The room was reasonably large and had good amenities. The bathroom was very small & felt a little cramped. There was no free parking but this is to be expected in a city.
The staff were very friendly, the service was wonderful. The atmosphere they create in the evenings with the free wine was very nice. The hotel was very noisy - you could hear people in the hall and in other rooms as well as everything happening on the street.
The location is perfect. Close to the city center, easy walking distance to anything and everything. Fly next door is excellent and the breakfast at Saba was great.
Huge room, location. Some Cleanliness mistakes. For example the welcome brochure with hotel information had lots of stains on it.
the staff were great - in the resturant - great that the staff remenbered what we wanted for drinks - nice to have the hotel happy hour no fridege - but htat seems to be the norm in USA
Good value for money, friendly and helpful staff, good location, and lots of free 'extras' such as free wi-fi, happy hour, personal safe...
The hotel was fabulously quaint and centrally located to all that I chose to do in S.F. I and my roomie truly enjoyed our stay and will come again.
Warm, helpful staff. Quirky atmosphere (in a good way). Thin walls, noisy city environment. Ear plugs are a must.
Our stay at this hotel was first class. The reception staff are very welcoming and extremely helpful. Rooms were spacious, spotlessly clean and had wonderful beds. A great experience - and so green too The restaurant Saha is massively overpriced and poor quality compared with other similar establishments in the area. Would not recommend eating here. Plus they had the nerve to add a 20% service charge to the bill as we were international guests staying at the hotel. A rip off
The room was large and had a great bathroom and bed, there was some noise from the air-con units outside and the bin men in the morning but that was expected as you're in the heart of the city. The room had a stand-alone air-con unit which meant that you had to keep the window open to use it letting in more street noise. Apart from that minor annoyance our stay was perfect.
Although the hotel is getting an exterior facelift, the facilities were great. They are affiliated with the Marriott and Marriott rewards program. There is a nice restaurant and bar adjacent to the lobby area. Our room was spacious and clean. Also, there was free wifi throughout the property, which didn't need a password, very convenient for jumping on and off of the network. There was a little doggy bowl at the front desk, so I would assume that they are pet friendly. The bell desk and front desk were separated by a huge pillar which made it awkward as you could only see one of them at a time during check in/out. I'd imagine that this is very cumbersome during busy operations. maybe they will be addressing this issue during their remodel.
The personalized service was amazing. Upon our arrival, we wrote it was our first time to the city. The concierge hand wrote a welcome card and included a map with highlighted areas we must see WITH a detailed (again handwritten) explanation of each place corresponding to color print outs of the sites. INCREDIBLE!!! Also, the room was quite spacious and loved all the windows. No pool, bar closed early, bartender was not enthused to be there.
The location and decor of rh hotel is great. The rooms could not have gotten smaller, and our views was of a alley. Horrible experience.
Great room, recently renovated, clean and cozy. Don't use the hotel valet parking, it's a rip-off at $39 a night while a parking garage next door is available for $20.
Very modern, sophisticated look, spacious room. Friendly staff.
Liked the small boutique feel. Hip, mod and chic. Great value in a great location. A little on the fringe of the tenderloin but didn't affect the stay. Valet parking worked out great and the parking prices are more reasonsble than most.
The friendly staff and the comfort.
there was a terrible smell coming from the sink. However after it was fixed was replaced with strong odor of chemicals. bathrooms
All very good! The room is nice! good view of the down town.
Excellent staff, large, nicely-appointed and very clean rooms. Restaurant/bar had recently closed. While I would think that a new establishment will takeover the space, this was a bit of a disappointment during my stay.
They treated us fantastically well and gave us complimentary bottle of champagne, flowers and chocolates on discovering our stay coincided with our wedding anniversary Nothing.
The only thing I did not like is that the hotel os smoke free. The need to offer a place for guests to smoke outside
This place was rated 3 stars. We went into it knowing that. It met our expectations. Great location, clean, good price. Staff were excellent. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Nothing. Was exactly what we expected.
Price Staff Room Location is not bat but could be better
The Opal is an older building with beautiful architecture and charm. To get into the lobby you have to be a guest, using your room key to unlock the front doors. I was so much more relaxed within the hotel with this added security. It is in an excellent location to good food and sight seeing and if driving, is easy to get to from 101 and they also have a private, gated parking garage! We will definitely stay at the Opal San Francisco in the future! Would recommend curved shower rods to give a little extra room. Because of being an older building the electrical outlets are minimal and had to do some rotation of electrical devices.
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. The continental breakfast was very good. And in a good location if you want to see the city.
The hotel has a funny smell. I didn't like it.
Bird poop on my car even though it's covered parking. Noise from garbage container cleaning at 10 pm and 7 am right below my room. Getting from parking to lobby is just sketchy.
Very affordable price (except parking ). The hotel is within walking distance of all kinds of great places: restaurants, bars, Union Square, Japan Town, etc. The bed are big and comfy! The ice machine was kind of hidden on the third floor. Kind of weird. Also, no fridge or microwave in the room.
Front desk person was very helpfull. Carpet with stains and smelly.
Nothing Everything. Especially the manager.
Location Bed was not very comfortable, rooms were small, AC was bad and could not be adjusted after a point, bathroom light kept flickering, expensive parking, included breakfast was of a poor quality, no bathtub in the bathroom.
The bed was exceedingly cozy, and the room was spacious. I don't know if all rooms are that spacious, or just the handicapped-accessible ones. The free breakfast was decent. There was a strange smell I couldn't really identify, which first reminded me of a grandparent's home. When I returned to my family, I was told I smelled like a bandaid, and that was similar to the room's smell. Not unpleasant, just disconcerting.
We like the room set up and size. Good location . Wifi was horrible!!!! Hounded daily to attend a Wyndham time share opportunity. Just one restaurant. Very loud in the mornings. Bathrooms were horrible and small.
Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed.
Location is perfect, steps from Union square, local music, theater and shopping. Price was very good. Two complaints although minor would have been easy to fix. The room had a coffee machine with packaged coffee but house cleaning forgot to leave new coffee packets for Sunday morning. The car was valet parked in the garage for the weekend but it was returned with some very minor new scratches on the drivers door.
The hotel is well located, just one block from Union Square and its huge departament stores (Macys, Bloomingdalesm Saks etc) and boutiques. In Union Square there's a sightseeing bus stop, so it's easy to go to other points of interest. The room was good, large and clean. There was a microwave oven, a frigobar and cafeteria on a corner. There was some noise, it seemed to come from the hotel itself, like an extractor fan or something like that.
Very central hotel, close to everything, very helpful staff, nice room there was no pool and the hot tub was under renovation
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed was super comfortable. The location was perfect. Noise from the nightclub!
Pro: Free music! Con: It was at 2:45 AM and closing the windows didn't help block out his persistant drumming.
Best location for the money. Large rooms, great staff and always neat and clean. Fine for me, but only have large King bed. Could be problem for some. There is a pull out sofa, however.
Location was suberb being 1 block from Union Square and so convenient to all modes of transportation, theater, shopping, restaurants. Can't be beat.
Location was very desirable. Close to Union Square, but not right on Powell Street. Also, club level lounge and fitness center were nice. Even on the 10th floor, the street noise on Saturday night of our stay could be heard through closed windows.
I like being in the Presidential Suite.
We loved the size and layout of the room. it was so much larger than most "big city" hotels. Also, the location was excellent.
Staff were nice, Italian restaurant is tasty, free wine and cheese after 5 I believe. Parking is minimal so expect $40 for valet and I had a small car per night. Overall enjoyed my stay.
Decor Beds Bathrooms Staff Location Price A little hot, but there was a fan in the room A bit small, but I've had worse
Pros: King room has a nice comfortable bed, good interior decoration but old fashioned, staff is okay Cons: keys often dysfunctioning and door hard to open, breakfast is only some bread and orange juice and cereal As above
Staff was friendly Very dated Super small room. Was not what was advertised.
lovely hotel, beautifully decorated: restored Victorian decorations, private bathroom, breakfast and wifi included, convenient location. We easily walked home after seeing the fireworks at Embarcadero. right after checking in, we walked to tourist info and unwittingly walked right through Tenderloin, which is only one block south. Luckily it was during the day, so it was ok, but we passed at least 5 people who looked strung out. The other times we walked to the hotel, we avoided Tenderloin and it was fine.
Unique rooms. Flexible and helpful staff. Outstanding value. Good location.
Location, staff, quiet and old world charm of Hotel
Simple hotel, but very well kept, in a quintessential SF neighborhood, and incredible value for money Room was a bit small and decor a bit quaint, but it is the style of the place
Decent location and clean Not for the business traveler. The room barely fit the double bed and the bathroom was so small the sink didn't fit. The walls are thin and it's very loud through the night.
I loved my room and the cleanliness. When I checked in a nice clean room with two beds that I booked were ready for me. The hotel's location was good for me for all of the things I wanted to see from Lombard Street, to Lands end, Pier 39, and other places I wanted to see were within a 5-15 minute drive from the hotel. There was a decent, filling breakfast that I had before I left in the morning. I did not pay for that as part of my stay abut it was nice that I was able to enjoy it. The check in and check out process was quick and easy. A little tip is that there is a parking garage at the intersection of bush and polk (only one block down) that offers cheaper parking than this hotel's valet. If you get your car parked in there a little past 9pm then get your car out before 8am so that your bill is only $6. Overall it was a great stay but If I ever go to SF again with my car I will definitely try to make sure the hotel has its only parking b/c it can be expensive to pay to park near your hotel on top of parking to see sights around the city. The biggest complaint I have is that the hotel claims to have parking but its actually valet parking that is anywhere from $26-$40 a night depending on the size of your car. I stayed there from Dec 30-31 and the room was freezing. I had a thin blanket which was not really sufficient. There wasn't much a view but it was not that big of a deal to me as I was there to see sights not sit and look out of my window. The staff was so so. I went to the front desk to ask about parking and that is when I was told that they had valet and no actual parking lot for guests to come and go as they please. Then I asked them about other parking garages around and they were not too helpful. In helping me finding alternatives.
Let me be the one to complain about a free breakfast.
I loved how it was a boutique hotel and honestly what I was looking for in SF. Only stayed 2 nights but would have stayed longer. Would definitely look into staying in the hotel again if we needed to. We had an end unit so we had windows on both sides of the room. Our comforter and sheets were white and bed frame a cute black vintage one. I feel this made the whole room open up with nice vintage touches with the desk and extra chair in the room. We had a little closet which held my mini suitcase and a built in bookshelf. I can't speak for the rest of the rooms but I do feel like we lucked out in ours. Great water pressure which I appreciated!! Weird thing to remember but it was awesome! I woke up abruptly in the morning because someone was standing outside the door talking. I couldn't hear through the walls but the next morning was a jolt I wasn't ready for. Could have just been a loud talker that no matter what door was there he could have been heard. One of our face towels had a stain, but didn't bother me much, I just put it aside not to use. Other than that, no problems.
The room was great, very complete amenities, comfortable, usable space. The Internet barely worked (slow connection for an hour). Mostly no connection, inadequate help desk support with no follow through. The mattress is hard and uncomfortable after a couple hours. The safe only errored.
the location cleanliness: I complained twice to get my towels changed ad my supplies refilled. facilities: the sink in the room looks really bad. I had asked explicitely for a large bathroom and I was give na small bathroom with the sink outside of it.
Hallways are too narrow, rooms are too small and you can't tell which door is for the bathroom or the closet once in the room, the bathroom is ridiculously small in their standard king room (closet might be bigger) - not worth what you pay for, and both elevators were down so it was a major inconvenience having to go up and down 7 floors. Thank goodness no one I was with was in a wheel chair. When 1 of the 2 elevators began working again, we still didn't trust it because of how small and noisy it was the one time we were able to use it. There is no parking- you have to hope you get lucky finding street parking - or try to find parking in the obnoxious parking structure around the corner, and by that time you might at well pay $50 for valet for the convenience of it. Overall, not a place I would recommend or stay at again.
The noise at night, couldn't sleep. The water pressure was non existent.
Very Centric. Great Location. Staff was incredibly helpful since we found hotel after a bad experience. Rooms are kind of small, but you go to San Francisco to spend time outside not inside the room so I guess it's ok.
The hotel is in a very good location. The room we first booked was very small and expensive for what it was. We upgraded at a price to a much more comfortable room. Shop around because though we liked the hotel it was quite expensive.
Inexpensive, convenient The room was fairly dingy...not dirty, but dark. It was in the center of the hotel, so the windows only looked out on brick. Otherwise it was fine.
Location is awesome and pets are allowed. Service is OK and spaces are really small. A little bit noisy.
It's small but nice. Bed is comfortable, modern furniture and style makes you feel good. Small issue with idly placed wet bar sink in the suite, could have had an electrical outlet in this area. Also would be nice if they had more power outlets near the bed where you could plug your phone in.
Love the contemporary look to the room and the bed was very comfortable. For the price the room was very nice but for a bit more $ I might have opted for a larger room.
perfectamente bien ubicado, muy limpio y gente muy amable, ademas de tener una salida especial para un rico cafe en sturbacks!!! genial!!!
Central Location in the city. New room furniture. Clean. Rooms cold in general and very very old heaters in the rooms which were extremely noisy. Very small bathrooms. Too expensive for existing amenities.
Location is good and staffs are very kind.
Service and staff were good.Fairly reasonbly priced for the quality of hotel. I took me Toyota Tundra pick-up there and they charged me dbl.rates to park my car which came out to $58+ for one night at a parking garage a couple of doors down from the hotel. The hotel didn't have any parking of their own....
Exceptional value ... well designed rooms that were spotless...and the "happy hour" in the early evening on the 12 floor overlooked the city - this was a great way to meet other travelers and plan our evening and next day events! We then had an amazing breakfast in the morning - this was more than I've ever experienced at hotels I've paid twice as much a night for! I would stay again - whether for business or a shopping trip with some friends. We were traveling with our 6 year old daughter on this trip...the staff were very accommodating and gave us a room that allowed for a cot at no extra fee - lots of little perks which we appreciated! Only disappointment for our daughter was that the pool facility did not allow for children.
like staying at one's club: gym, library, theater, courteous staff, restaurant, excellent breakfast, and central location yet quiet.
Location is great! Room we had was very noisy. Woke up each morning at 4.30 am due to street noice. Mentioned during check out but no real reaction or good answer received.
very cleanly and has a cool atmosphere. Close to really good food and some cool places.
I liked the location was close to many top tourist attractions. Staff was exceptional. Did not like the neighborhood and noise from the streets.
Quaint and charming architecture and modern decor throughout. Front desk staff was very nice, the girls gave me tips on using Uber and a coupon code for my first ride. They also alerted me to the fact that the church down the street double parks on the street and blocks you in. Comfortable bed Good neighborhood for walking if you like to shop as it is very close to Union Square. I was lucky and scored a parking space right outside the front door and only had to pay one hour at the meter on Saturday (Sunday was free) Street noise was substantial, but this is downtown SF after all so it wasn't unexpected. Just bring earplugs. Bathroom was very tiny and a little cramped, but made up for it in charm. Nice big and deep bathtub helped.
Saw many complaints about the location but it was a great area within walking distance of Union Square, Chinatown and other locations to get to via public transportation and lyft. The staff (from the front desk to the maintenance) was all incredibly helpful and kind. If you want to stay around Union Square, this is the place to do it! The elevator was a bit small and the closet didn't have a light in it so it was a bit hard to see in there. Additionally, when windows were open due to sleep temperature, it was a little loud despite choosing a "quiet room." Otherwise, we loved it!
The rooms were small but nice. It suited our needs and there were recent renovations. The staff was very rude when checking out. There was miscommunication when talking about parking fees. The signs they have are misleading and she was being a "b" when talking to us. I would not go back just because of her.
If you know which streets to skip, the location is good Too many homeless in the area. Remodeling made it dirty. The images are false advertising
Nothing special, but nothing wrong with the place. Clean room, nice beds, and friendly staff. Thin walls and floors allow you to hear your neighbors conversations and bowel movements.
The staff was quite helpful and also let me leave my bag for the days whilst I was gone. I would highly recommend it and will plan on staying there next time I am in town!
I liked everything about the hotel itself! The location was pretty convenient and accessible to public transportation. I did not like the fact that there was no hotel parking. We had to pay for overnight parking and the total came out to $95 for 2 nights.
Location & front desk personnel were friendly & helpful. 8th floor had a bad order. It was very loud. Thought room should have had fridge & a complimentary breakfast with stay!
