Fantastic location; very helpful and friendly staff. Loved the daily free cookies.
Tea and coffee in lobby, cookies nice touch, close to everything, really clean
Bathroom a little small
Great location on Union Square, handy for the cable cars. Comfortable room
Good sized room, very nice private bathroom! Roomservice not only replaced towels when needed but also kindly supplied more shower gel after several days. The staff was generally very nice.
I did not feel comfortable using the elevators they were rather shaky and made off noises the week I stayed at the hotel - luckily I was just up on the 5th floor so could walk the stairs easily.
The staff are fabulous. So friendly and patient. Nothing is too much trouble. The reception staff (Brice, a dark hard gentleman with glasses (so sorry I didn't get his name) and a young lady) were great- answering questions, giving advice about where to park or eat and where to get the bus to specific attractions. Our original room was noisy ( a constant droning noise through the night - but the noise was from a neighboring building's heating vent/AC unit - it was not generated by the hotel itself) and upon mentioning this to the reception we were immediately moved to another, quieter room without question even though it was only half an hour before the housekeeping staff finished for the day. Also the hotel is very clean. The rooms are comfortable and the beds are v.comfortable with a choice of pillow type, rubber duck, plenty of shower gel/shampoo etc and an in room fridge. They provide free tea/coffee/apples and cookies in the lobby area. The bar area is cosy and friendly - has a happy hour and also we were given a voucher for buy one get one free. It's in a great location - cable car/trolley runs right outside and there are many restaurants, bars and shops. We enjoyed staying here very much.
Can't think of anything!
Built for the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915, San Francisco Hotels’ Chancellor Hotel on Union Square stood as the tallest building in the city. With the memory of the great earthquake of 1906 still fresh, the original contractor went broke designing the hotel to withstand even the strongest quakes. When Isador Rosenberg swooped in and saved it from abandonment, the hotel was turned into a family-owned and operated business and a staple of Union Square.
The Chancellor Hotel features 137 luxurious and historic rooms and two suites. Contemporary decor and lavish furnishings provide ample comfort and are paired with a 32” flat-screen TV, free HBO, mini-fridge, in-room safe, and an over-sized bathtub. Each boutique room is sized to fit two people comfortably and is cooled by San Francisco’s fresh air and a ceiling fan.
Hotel guests will wake up to a multi-station American Breakfast Buffet stocked with all one could want in the morning. Eggs, bacon, sausage, bread and pastries, and a pancake maker are filling fare before trekking out to explore sunny San Francisco.
Travelers are steps away from San Francisco’s Union Square and the district’s renowned shops, eateries, art galleries, nightclubs, and lounges. Historic sites like Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge are within reach, as is the city’s cable car system, Chinatown, North Beach, and Yerba Buena Gardens.
A historic staple of Union Square, The Chancellor Hotel is an iconic piece of San Francisco that provides guests with maximum comfort and convenience.
