Location, interior design, breakfast, coffee/cakes, most staff Poor window, let in a lot of street noise, with what we paid for 2 nights (c.€380) they could buy a double glazed window (about 4 ft by 3 ft) which would be a big benefit for future users of the room. While most staff were friendly, the receptionist we mostly dealt with was businesslike/efficient rather than friendly. (my wife might use different words!)
The beautiful classic design interiors. The room as well.
The rooms were very nice and clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was very kind. My brother lives in Paris and is recommending the Hotel Estherea to any of his friends/associates who are planning to visit Amsterdam. The bar wasn't open until the evening. I would have liked to have a cocktail after I checked in...but there were plenty of places around there to have one - so it was not a big deal.
Well situated hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably comfortable bedroom, although small. Nice clean and well appointed bathroom. Hotel bedroom was rather small and paintwork on windows peeling.
Everything was excellent. Beautiful old world charm, large spacious room, staff was outstanding in every way with help on questions, places to eat and see and making reservations. No
Loved the hotel and the staff were incredible. Will always stay there in the future. Room are small but beautiful. Rooms facing the canal had very little storage space.
Good location. Not very modern. Adds 10 years to your life. People 50+ loves it I guess...
Great view overlooking the Singel Canal Friendly atmosphere Brilliant location
Location, Lounge, Coffee and goodies at reception Beds hard
Cosy, friendly staff. No problems no free wifi
Great staff and good location.
the location and decor of the hotel The staff was clueless and did not know anything about the city. They were all students. All of the old staff was gone. The hotel charged $30 a day for internet service. This is a change from their past policy it used to be about $10 a day. Still high but tolerable. Their breakfast was very expensive and the quality was poor. I travel to Amsterdam once a year and always stay at the Doelen. Due to recent changes by management I will not stay there again.
Excellent sympathetic staff, flexibility on requests and prompt aid on any question. Close to center (well located) and nice view. Old style equipments (furniture and heating), beds too soft (easily twist back) and twin beds on double rooms.
The location was good for access to all of the city's attractions. The roadworks immediately outside the hotel and bedroom were intrusive, extremely annoying and unattractive. The only compensation offered by the staff was a pair of free ear plugs and a free drink at another hotel! The furnishings in the room were old, tired and shabby. the bed was stained and in places the room was unclean. The shower was poor. Their was no bar, and the reception looked less than 4 star. This is not a 4 star hotel, and I will be writing to the dutch authorities to question this rating. As such the details are misleading.
the hotel staff, and the hotel is close to important places
reception helpful. The room smells old and the furniture as well. Despite the canal view the single is really small.
location they gave us a room with a shared balcony on the first floor which ment that who ever could have free access in our room through the balcony. we explaned the problem and asked them to assign us an another room with no balcony and what they gave us was a room next to the old one: sure there was no balcony but a window, always looking onto the same balcony, common to other clients. i work in the hotel business too and i have never seen such a dusty and unclean hotel room in my life. our stay was short and this is why i didn't want to waiste my time looking for an another place to stay otherwise i would have done it. this hotel needs a completely renovation and is no worth of its four star.
The staff are fabulous! Hotel has wonderful history. It was the home of Rembrandt's Nightwatch. The location is very central to all Amsterdam sites. The breakfast is incredible. It is one of the best places I have ever stayed!
The location is excellent. The construction work in front of hotel.
The location was excellent, surely in view of the visit to an exhibition tot the Hermitage Museum, but also in view of the lively neighborhood. No complaints
Location, price, excellent staff and wonderful building... This was the third time I have stayed at this hotel, and on both previous occasions I was allocated a much larger room than this time around... This time, the room we were given felt a little cramped, especially the bathroom. Also, the room contained only one mirror, inside one of the wardrobe doors, and there was only one bedside table. I will definately use the hotel again in the future for its excellent location, condition and helpful staff, but my fondness for the hotel has been slightly reduced because of the size of our room.
Location, freindliness of staff
The staff Lack of information ,should make clear what the hotel offers .ie. breakfast not included no smoking signs ,never saw in rooms but rooms was clean and nice.
easy to access all areas of amsterdam ( very central location) No, everything was great, i enjoyed my stay and will book thier again when i return to Asterdam.
The only concern, was the checking in it seem too long and you did have 3 staff on. However th ques for checking in was getting longer as the staff seem to take telephone calls when attending to people checking in.
2nd stay, had a bathtub this time ++ Central location. Clean. Cheap. We couldn't have a smoking room, even though we indicated a preference for one. The rooms all seemed to have been renovated with hard flooring which made adjacent rooms a lot more noisy.
This is the place to stay for visitors to Amsterdam. Great location near everything. Great restaurants and bars near by. One of the better coffee shops and smart shops just a minute away. Nothing.
The fact that the hotel is located in a central area. The hotel has very good facilities.
Location The breakfast that is supposed to be included is just teas and coffees. You have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast even if your room rate says breakfast is included. The radio in the room started playing on its own early in the morning for no reason, extremely loudly. When we called down for a porter to switch it off, it took him 10-minutes to stop it playing. This woke us up and we couldn't get back to sleep. The staff didn't seem to care about such a major inconvenience.
Comfort of room and helpful staff
The staff were professional and extremely pleasant. The location was perfect to see everything Amsterdam has to offer.
The service was amazing! Roland was the best concierge ever. He really made our trip fabulous! Everyone was so friendly Nithing
The position is quite good. The bed is very comfortable. The hotel is far from being a five stars level. Small rooms, old furniture, noisy, no complimentary services, poor level of service staff. The price paid is too high for what you get.
Its central location, its friendly helpful staff, its comfortable rooms and pleasant atmosphere and there was no language barrier.
The hotel in general, the room, view, location, staff breakfast was too expensive and too poor
This is a luxurious hotel located in the part of the Amsterdam. The service, the food and the staff were among the best that we have ever seen. We would love to go back there again.
Everything was of a high level No
Attentive and courteous staff - lovely room with views over city - would definitely stay there again.
Very good location, Nice minibar, Friendly staff I was not given a good room from the beginning. I lost too much time to give us an acceptable room.
Location, staff very helpful and very friendly For the price I believe the breakfast should be included in the price ,
The hotel was very central and we were upgraded as we wanted a non-smoking room so it was very comfortable with a sofa - beds very good and nice duvets. Husband delighted to get BBC1 and 2 so he could watch the rugby and listen to the cricket highlights!
Great central location. I loved the mini-kitchen. The bathroom, however, lacked a full shower door so the bathroom floor was constantly wet after using the shower. The room was very spacious, especially for a European hotel. The carpet and bedding color schemes were horrible.
Good location, we had a nice big room although asked for standard. Breakfast could be included or had a better price.
Sofa bed in room to accomodate young children
Absurd! They advertise that there is a free WiFi in the lobby but in fact it is only for the first 20 minutes. On top of it, the bandwidth speed is additionally limited by their software to only 120kbps (about the speed of two dial-up telephone lines). They really made sure that they do not "overspend" on any bytes. Absurd! It felt as the whole hotel is incredibly stingy
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely room. Great location. Convenient, pleasant restaurant.
Overall we had a pleasant stay, due to short notice travel we paid $250 per night whic is way too much for this hotel. The location was very convenient, walk to most tourists attractions and a tourist restaurants. The bedding was clean. Due to the urin smell in the bathroom the hotel gave us breakfast vouchers. This hotel is rated at 4, it is 3 star at best. The interior itself is dated, you can tell they have tried improving it by panting and cleaning the carpets. It is obvious a remodel is in order to bring it up to 4 star standard. I believe most European hotel turn off the ability to run the AC in the winter. With the windows closed the room became rather stuffy, we slept with the window open on the 6th floor with ear plugs in since the partying went on till 4am. The toilet had a constant urin smell even after having the maid clean with bleach and leaving us an air freshener. Maintenance replaced the sink trap but still smelled. My wife called the front desk for a simple question and front desk clerk by the name of Alessio(male with a beard) was rude and condescending.
No bar, or comfortable lounge
I stay in this hotel second time! I like absolutely everything. First time I stayed with husband in most expensive deluxe room. Now in standard. But both of room are perfect!
Its location Yes. It took ages to walk from one side to the other and you had to do your ironing in a laundry roon close to the front desk as there weren't any irons available.
The room was very comfortable and lovely and clean. The hotel was very central to everything but in a lovely area.
Staff and easy availability of bicyles for our use.
Great location. Very good and helpful staff. Canal houses are well known to frequent visitors. First timers with mobility issues (not my problem) should ask for rooms wiht easy access.
The location in a beautiful area of the city with good access to communication and travel links. The comfort of the accommodation and the most helpful and courteous staff.
Please write at least 15 words Professionalism of the staff and beautiful room No tea or coffee in the room and the room stayed quite cold
The hotel was clean. The air conditioning did not cool the room well.
Nice hotel,excellent staff,good location!
We like the service the room & central location
Extra little comforts like free coffee and snacks.Breakfast included which was excellent. Staff very efficient. Only that i prefer a bath to taking a shower. But the shower in the room was a good quality one.
It was central, comfortable, had a very nice breakfast and it's inclusive concept was brilliant.
All-inclusive (mini bar, food and drinks at the lobby, breakfast)
Excellent location, very comfortable. The staff is very sharp, attentive and friendly. The breakfast is great as is the self-serve bar. I wish they had a gym, though they can send you to a local gym a couple of blocks that's quite reasonable.
Central location within the city center. Hotel staff very friendly and efficient. Good breakfast. Good idea to have free access to coffee machine, drinks and snacks. However, for alcoholic beverages, we would have liked to have the option of paying for premium/better quality drinks. The room was very small and the "canal view" is of no real interest. No restaurant in the hotel so the choice for room service menu is very poor.
Staff were fantastic. The food/drink concept is very welcome and helpful in such an expensive city. Good showers. I would agree with some comments that the rooms are a bit plain. If the rooms had the detail and decor of the reception areas it would be excellent.
1. helpful, friendly staff 2. complimentary snacks and beverages 3. location
The hotel has a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere - it's almost like staying at someone's home. You can sit by the fire with a glass of wine (included in the room rate) and read or relax. The breakfast is good, with an extensive buffet and hot dishes prepared to order. Because of the location, which is very central and excellent in most regards, taking a car to the hotel is not advisable as parking is hard to find and very expensive. I would recommend using public transport if possible - it is quite extensive and efficient in Amsterdam.
An excellent location with very friendly staff and comfortable accomodation. The free bar and snacks in the lounge area made it a very sociable hotel too. Nothing it was excellent all round.
All in price drinks snacks and beakfast
Great cozy hotel in a great location. Free beer, wine and evening cheese and snacks is really great. I would recommend to anyone to stay there. The wifi was a bid slow at times but perfectly acceptable most of the time.
The room was very clean and quiet. Although our room was close to the lift we heard no sound from it.
Hotel is located in real centre of Amsterdam.
The shower was poor and the hair dryer was weak - it was being replaced on the day we left!
location, size of room, late checkout time The staff rang us one morning to find out when we were going out so they could clean the room....we felt a bit pressured to leave the room!!
Friendliness and cleanlilness Lack of hot drink making facilities in the room
Poor shower pressure. It was a smoking room.
The location of the hotel is perfect. The hotel is redecorated / refurnished so it's like brand new! Corridors could need a little more light.
Most of the Staff were nice and cooperative, The Triple room was in good size by european standards. the location was good approx. 7 mins to Dam square. plenty of resturants and cafes in the surrounding area. In the first day , we were given a triple room in the basement and this room was terrible by any standard, no air conditioning and no good airing and the most disturbing thing is that you will hear each and every word from your neighbors since there were no sound proof in the rooms, we asked for another room and it was better but the sound proof problem continued, which made us uncomfortable , you would even hear your neighbors when they close or open the doors and you’d think they are knocking your door, it was that bad. Another thing is one of the staff was really rude when I asked for changing the room she treated me really badly and when I came to the reception to continue discussing something that I discussed with her in the phone she was talking very angrily and she said it is strange of me to discuss with her something we agreed upon! What kind of customer service is that?? But I had her apologize to me for her disgraceful behavior. And told here not use such words with customers again. The hotel was undergone a changing from a 3 stars hotel to a 4 stars hotel, and they were too busy and it was very missy and disturbing, I think some staff didn’t realize yet that they are in a four stars hotel and they need to be up to standards in term of customer services and general attitude. I will never even think of recommending or staying at this hotel again. I have stayed in a lot of 3 and 4 stars hotels in Amsterdam and it was good hotels.
Hotel staff was great. Room was small but well layed out. Resturant was awful. Awesome smells, looked elegant, but food was terrible. Told the server and no offer of replacing or anything was offered. While view of city street was great, windows did not block out street noises.
Convenient location No bar facilities
The hotel is centrally located to many of the museuems and sightseeing sites. Take Tram 4 from Centraal Station and you are within 100 m of the hotel back entrance near Rembrandt Square. Excellent staff and top quality breakfast start your day off right. Great value for the money.
Staff are excellent/location is excellent/rooms are modern and spacious/non-smoking floor No
Amazing location, very helpful staff. Room was very comfortable.
the location the internet demand for payment. it should be free
Excellent rooms, most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, fabulous location and no noise atall, great aircon, all in all a five star experience! Only being really fussy, there was no shower screen and although this could drain into the bathroom floor it wasn't sufficient to stop it reaching the carpet of the bedroom, not very good design!
The location We booked a double room but got two single beds pushed together. Pretty uncomfortable
modern amenities, location Need towel racks or hooks, neither room during two stays had a place to put wet towels to dry.
size of the room was more than expected room was clean interior rooms have a poor view. Little natural light in our room due to layout
Location location location. The staff was nice but overbusy so sometimes they didn't have time to properly take care of everyone. Room was big and clean A bit chilly in the room, they said it was not possible to regulate the heating because it was share with other rooms. Very rich breakfast buffet, but too much expensive for the price. Shuttle service came 40 minutes late and took 1h to get me (at last) to the hotel.

Location It was kind of old and the room was cold because of the windows
The location and common areas were lovely We were in room 8. The loo was tiny - luckily we are both thin. Anyone over 6 feet tall or 12 stone would stuggle to sit on it.
Although the hotel is located very close to shopping and dining streets, the hotel was very quiet throughout the day and night. The hotel was well decorated and had a very pleasant ambient. The room and the private bathroom where we stayed were clean, modern and well-sized. We loved the many large windows in the room which kept the interior bright and cool during our stay in the hot month of July. We had 3 minor dislikes - (1) The hotel did not have proper air- conditioning (during the hot month of July). Instead the hotel provided a cool air dispensing machine (mobile type) to cool the room. This machine has an exhaust duct that must be placed through a window to the exterior of the room. When the machine is running, the duct prevented us from closing the window completely during the some nights to keep out the mosquitos. (2) The staff, although always polite and friendly, were not able to help us to book tickets to the main museums. (3) There were no variations in the breakfast. We had the same offering during our five days stay in the hotel.
great location, fantastic rooms, drinks from the minibar and breakfast are always included in the room rates which was a very positive surprise. This is a better experience than most 5 star hotels I stayed at!
sometimes it took a long time to do simple things,, ie check out took 10-15 minutes.. breakfast was no real hurry
Wow, what a lovely hotel. We have stayed in the Picasso and Schubert suites both of which are delightful. All the staff are very helpful, friendly and so attentive. We didn't want to leave such was the care we received. Looking forward to our next trip to Amsterdam!! Too many cakes and pastries with the tea/coffee. I've put on a couple of kilos in weight since staying there!!
Eclectic, distinctive, welcoming atmosphere. Private club feel to the public spaces. All inclusive of wireless, minibar, house wines and breakfast. Room (bathroom especially) a little old-fashioned.
Location Poor state of common areas, especially landing for lifts No air conditioning in room
The location was great and the staff was friendly, service orientated & knowledgeable. The beds are hard and rooms can be a little noisy - ask for 1 near top floor & away from elevator. A room switch was given to us & the new room was great.
Excellent room for the money. Convenient & Comfortable. Terrible service.
The hotel had an amazing location close to the heart of Amsterdam. We were able to walk or ride our bikes everywhere we wanted to go. It was loud some nights, but the hotel provided ear plugs.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff were excellent amd the breakfast very tasty and plenty The chairs in the room were not comfortable
old fashion hotel the bath was not so comfort, and also water in the bath was so low, and change the degree with out permision,
The service was excellent. The staff quickly and competently tended to my every need. The decor was an interesting new art deco. The bathroom was big and clean. Awesome! Location. The Sunday night disco across the Rembrandt Plein from the hotel was crazed.
Location The bed was too hard and uncomfortable
We liked the rooms and the comfort of the beds. Good standard of cleanliness. Polite staff. Flat screen TV was great!
Centrally located, nice clean room Centrally located in the middle of the noisy area... difficult to sleep before 5am due to the noise outside
staff very warm friendly. place safety and reasonable price
Good location close to points of interest. Sparse furnishing and poor maintenance, dirty carpets, cold room.
The location of the hotel only The staff spoke to you like you like you are stupid essp the guy working as a concierge. The bathroom was extremely small with dirty walls and black stainscreen in the wall lining. The roomovers looked nothing like the pictures.
Location. Clean. Tiny shower in bathroom. Curtains didn't quite close to block all light.
Comfortable room, although not very big, good bed and very nice sheets. Enough storage space for clothes. Nice bathroom. Excellent location! Hotel stuff (apart from concierge) not really customer friendly.
Only the fact that there was free wifi Small room, barely 6*8.. TV was crap, battub was the smallest I have ever seen, didn't know they made it this tiny... Room had odor, housekeeping didn't change bed sheets nor did they clean the floor, just placed new towels in.
Located next to Rembrandtplein with trams and restaurants, Terry at the bar was AMAZING! Broken elevator, tiny room, shower was awkward, hot water broke, bathroom door was a shower door
Unfriendly & authoritarian check in staff, not customer orientated. Run down rooms not expected from Best Western.
It was closed to the festival I was attending. Silent rooms. The rooms are completely small, nothing to do with what they show in the pictures in this webpage. Even the wardrove was impossible to be open because of the space. The room cleaning was not good at all.
good location 5 minutes from the shopping district and 10 minutes from most attractions. There was building work being carried out in the hotel that we weren't informed about and this started at 6am. so each morning we stayed we got woken by loud banging. in future i wouldn't return to this hotel due to the construction work not being disclosed at check in or appologised for on leaving.
Location in relation to sights in town -Room was not what was on the website -Staff double charged me and sought to charge me a city tax on an erroneous charge -Wi-Fi was rarely working
Great location, room was clean, comfortable The concierge was very helpful Good WiFi connection :)
Good value for money considering the location The part of the hotel where i stayed would need to be refurbished. I'm generally not fussy but i would have appreciated cleaner bathrooms.
