Beautiful room, everything catered for
The historic building has great architectural features inside and outside and the free guided tour (externally run by tourist guides) is well worth taking. Location is ideal for walking around Amsterdam with good links to public transport.
Room heating was not functioning which staff did not resolve. Next day, at our insistence, moved us to another room in the morning which had not been cleaned. Several calls were needed until eventually the night manager personally helped clean the room in the evening. The advertised restaurant DOES NOT EXIST. Apparently closed 6 months ago with no indication it will ever reopen. Call this 5 star?
Amazing architecture and history of the building. Great location.
For a five star hotel it was very disappointing. Beds were poor quality: too soft mattress. Shower head not working properly and a cap missing. Dirty carpets in the corridors. Staff at reception unsure and not very hospitable.
The building was old but sophisticated and inside was renovated. It has a high ceiling and bathroom has a nice deep bathtub, which we enjoyed.
They didn’t inform us about the building construction ongoing and we woke up with the noise of drilling.... also the building was covering our view to the river. Also the stuffs were not really friendly....
The area and location is well, seeing an old building restored as a hotel is nice.
This hotel is not a 5 Star Hotel. Examples: They have a friendly e-Mail that allows to book upgrades beforehand. We ordered Strawberries with chocolate. We got 5 old strawberries on a stick :D Even the room boy was amused and made sure we did not need to pay for it (the price would have been 15€). We wanted to order room service, described as "a vide variety of hot and cold drinks and beverages". They told us, that they have 3 big meetings at the moment and hence only offer pizza. We ordered the pizza then... The next day, we spoke to the manager about the lacking quality, e.g. also several features of the spa were not working, in the jacuzzi there was a headpiece missing which could have lead to dangerous situations etc. She told us, she would take care of the issues and make sure we receive some form of compensation. We also commented this on the live feedback e-Mail that the hotel sends you. The next evening, we asked at reception, if room service was available today. They told us that this is not a one day situation, but that they are not able to offer anything but pizza. Interesting, this has been going on for some time but the first time, we were lied to to disguise the fact that they do not live up to their standards. When we checked out, there was no compensation at all. We paid 31€ for mediocre 2 pizzas that they got from the pizza place next door. All in all, it seems like the hotel chain is trying to establish good processes and structures. The e-Mail beforehand and the ongoing quality monitoring are a good way to keep customers happy. But if nobody listens or takes actions, than this leads to dissatisfaction. I am usually not a person that writes lenghty feedbacks, but this management is just a pity for this otherwise nice located hotel with special history. And the stay was not horrible - it is an ok hotel, but 300€/night is highly overpriced and you surely will get a better deal and especially service quality in a different establishment.
