Cons: Hotel itself was just meh. Amazing location above Kyoto Station but it comes at a hefty price. Since we were using the Japan Rail Pass for the day trips, it was worth it. Would stay there again.

Pros: Very impress for staff at concierge office. Our travelling plan went smoothly by assistance from concierge staff. This was our 3 times staying at the hotel and we will definitely book the hotel again when we visit Kyoto.

Pros: I couldn't be happier with my stay at Hotel Vista Premio Kyoto Kawaramachi. I highly recommend this hotel if you're a city dweller. The hotel is centrally located to all the places you should visit in Kyoto City. It's a short walk to the famous Nishiki Market in one direction and wonderful little restaurants by the river at another. It's close to public transportation for day trips around other parts of town. The hotel staff is very helpful with directions and translation. Its not a luxury hotel but the room we stayed in was clean and orderly.
Cons: The beds are unusually firm! It may be a Japanese thing but it was the hardest bed I've slept in during my two weeks an Asia. I would not recommend this hotel if you need a soft mattress. I knew I needed a larger room because we were traveling with three suitcases and a standard Japanese hotel room would drive me crazy, so I booked a deluxe room with two singles because I was also afraid the queen bed was not large enough for my partner and I so we slept in twin beds like I Love Lucy which was totally fine for three nights.

Pros: Everything from the reasonable room size for a Japanese hotel (we went for the King North Terrace which was one of the bigger rooms), complimentary drink at night including reasonable quality spirits, wine etc., live music at night, leisure areas with comfortable seating, complimentary beverages (on ground floor) with a range of coffees to choose from etc., a reasonable buffet breakfast with enough choices to cater for western dining, free washing machines and dryers and it is very close to the station and the bus terminal.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: This was a great hotel located right near the central station. You get a free drink of your choice from the bar every night. The rooms are really nice and staff very friendly. The hotel restaurant is also very good.

Pros: Great location! Easy access to bus lines and subways. The bathroom is quite large relative to the room size. Effective use of space. They can store your luggage for you free of charge if you arrive early. I did this and it was a huge lifesaver.
Cons: No minibar, but I never use that stuff anyway.

Pros: It's fine for a three star, but you are paying for five star which it doesn't live up to.
Cons: It's tricky one hostess was very helpful and another one yelled at us for canceling a cab, it was very strange. The beds are so hard, it was terrible. Also they don't have a bag room so the lobby is absolutely filled with bags because of all the tour groups. Also bar extremely overpriced. Overall it is extremely overpriced for what you get. Use that same amount and go stay in one of the traditional hotels in the cute part of town.

Pros: The whole hotel was so fancy and My parents got satisfied by their kind service. Amenities were good, ah they supplied us twin double bed and it was also good. The room was clean and comfortable.
Cons: The only problem of this hotel was the location. Not too bad but can't explain it's good. We 4 families always used taxi but solo or couple travelers may feel the taxi fee in Osaka is a little bit expensive.

Pros: We loved staying here. My only complaint is that it cost additional money to use the pool, if you chose to use the pool, and more importantly, that you had to be 18 years old to use the pool at all. My wife and I were traveling with our 9-year-old daughter, so none of used the pool because our daughter was too young. This was a huge downer, because Kyoto is very hot in August and we would have welcomed being able to cool off in the pool. By contrast, the hotel we stayed at in Tokyo (The Park Hyatt) had no age restrictions on pool usage (or usage fees) and we used the pool twice a day. Other than the disappointment about the pool, the Kyoto Hotel Okura was a total delight and perfectly located and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, and the free shuttle too and from Kyoto Station was a welcome surprise.
Cons: The pool cost money to use. And you need to be at least 18 to use it. This was a huge disappointment since we were traveling with our daughter, who is 9.

Cons: Okura was listed as luxury, which it was far from. We ended up not staying here after checking in as the rooms were not like they looked on the website and nothing about this hotel was luxury. It’s a very basic business hotel - oversized and questionable on cleanliness.

Pros: We loved almost everything about the Okura! Staff were very attentive and helpful with navigating for non-Japanese speaking guests. Facilities were in great shape. Insure dining had both local and international options. Subway access via basement connection and hotel shuttle to/from train station. So many amazing sites to see from there and tour company picked up at hotel.
Cons: Much of dining, as seems common in Good hotels in Japan, is fixed price. We found two good options, Merry Island(Italian) and a noodle house that I do not remember the name of, in easy walking distance.

Pros: Location was excellent, close to making shopping area. Big room for Japanese standard.
Cons: Staff not very friendly. Limited English with some staff. Concierge overwhelmed with people. Perhaps 2 at the desk would help. Very strict check out policy. Was not given a copy of my bill because I made the reservation over KAyak.

Pros: Hotel Monterey Kyoto is located near Gion, the main shopping area in Kyoto, and walking distance to Maruyuma Park, Pontocho Alley, and Nishiki Market. It is a block from the Karasuma Oike station, which is only a few stops from the Kyoto Station. As a tourist, this hotel is well located, considering many of the temples are best reached via bus. Our room felt extremely clean with modern decor. Though space was tight, it was manageable for two people. Everyone we spoke to was very accommodating, polite and helpful. We never heard sounds coming from other rooms.
Cons: No complaints!

Pros: location was good.
Cons: Ceanliness was poor. Toilet was leaking on the floor and it was obvious the floor wasn't cleaned daily. We were out all day and upon returning, we saw the bathroom wasn't cleaned. Also, we got a cab to take us to a nearby laundromat and then Kyoto station. We showed them the map the hotel passes out to guests. The taxi driver said he knew how to get there. He took us the opposite direction. After driving for about 8 min, I stopped him and told him he's going the wrong way. Thank goodness for GPS and smartphones. He had one too but couldn't figure how to get us to where we wanted. He ended up taking us back to the hotel and asking us to pay him the $11 on the meter. I told him it wasn't fair since he never took us where we wanted to go. He called the porter who insisted we pay the taxi. Even though I explained the situation, the porter took the taxi's story that I never gave the address. He heard my story and took the taxi's. We told him he picked us up from the hotel too and he still said we should pay. I told him I'm not paying and that I would walk to my destination. He insisted I give my name and room number. That was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Sad...

Pros: Hotel location is close to Kyoto train station and the new Aeon Shopping Mall.
Cons: The mattress is as firm as it gets. I had difficulty sleeping on my side or back. The hotel configuration is not suitable if your room is situated far from the elevator. It seems the elevator is at one end of hotel and our room at the opposite end. Hotel is U-shaped and we walked liked 200 meters to the elevators.

Pros: The room was clean. The staff was friendly and efficient. The breakfast ladies were great. The breakfast picked veggies were great. Many buses stop right in front of the hotel and the $5 day pass pays for itself with one round trip. On the 5th floor and up there can be a view of pagoda shrine on the west side. It's a walk from the train station but doable. For the cheaper price, it's worth considering. I did not try the bathing rooms.
Cons: I had nasal sensory overload at this hotel. Between the smoking room right by the front desk (where one leaves the key), cleaning products in the elevator, chemically personal products and room that smelled whenever we ran the ac and fogged up otherwise, it was too much. The exhaust from the buses would come in when we opened the window on the street side. Definitely cheaper products are used here.
