Pros: The hotel staff were very attentive and responsive to all email queries and reply promptly for every occasion without failed. The Ryokan is approximately 13 mins walk from JR Saga-Arashiyama station and it is located right in front of the Katsura river. Within short walking distance to Tenryuji temple, Tongetsu-kyo bridge, Bamboo forest and Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama. The room was very clean and cozy. It has a separate bathroom and toilet. In addition, it has a sunroom where you can enjoy a cup of tea overlooking the little Japanese garden at the courtyard. Dinner can be arranged to be served in your own room. The kaiseki dinner was made with the seasonal produces and each course was like an artwork and it tastes very delicious in deed. After the meal, they arranged to make your bed. I really enjoy sleeping on tatami and the duvet was so warm and fluffy. They have indoor and outdoor hotspring. It has been an amazing Japanese onsen ryokan experience. Thanks for the staff being so friendly and welcoming.

Cons: As much as I like the location, it is abit of a distance from the JR station and strolling down with the luggage between the crowd is abit of a struggle. However, I love the amazing view and how central the location of this Ryokan to all major attractions and the hospitality from the staff were fantastic.

Cons: The staff was a bit rude, the beds and pillows were really hard and the capsule area was very very hot. It's also a bit far from the JR station, about a half mile or so, and while it's a nice easy walk it can be hard to find at night when people are milling around. It's behind some other buildings beside a food stall.

Pros: Great Ryokan experience, with some additional comfort (private bathroom). Big room that feels like your own Japanese home, and very friendly staff who will serve you dinner, breakfast or prepare your beds for you. You will not see any other guests, which is the real luxury. Location is great with a lot to sight by foot. Don’t hesitate to go, if you can afford it though...

Pros: This ryokan was phenomenal! Talk about luxury, it was worth every penny. I wish we had been able to spend more than one night. We booked a room with a private bath because my husband wasn't keen on public onsen and I have a small tattoo which was not allowed per guidelines. The windows opened in the private bath and looked out on the courtyard garden which was gorgeous! The futons were more comfortable than a regular hotel bed. While dinner was not included, it was a fabulous experience and the food was to die for. So luxurious and the perfect amount considering it was 10 courses. Would highly recommend.

Pros:
Cons: We were looking forward to staying in a Ryokan and had done quite a bit of research on what to expect. Accommodations did not meet any sort of high end standards and the services offered were minimal given the luxury prices. We stayed two nights in the two bedroom annex building with our two teen-age daughters. I had read about a welcoming check in where we would be offered tea and learn more about the Ryokan and area. We had a five minute discussion of check in and check out times and what meals we planned on eating. We were not offered any tea and they were not able or interest in answering any questions we had. The walkway to the separate annex building was dark and quite ugly walking past trash and some sort of small parking lot. Our windows looked out onto the trash and small parking lot. I asked about sight seeing and private tour guide suggestions and they said they did not have any recommendations. We had some rainy weather and stayed in the first morning. We left at noon and the rooms were not made up when we returned in the evening. When we checked in they had parked two bikes for us to use outside our annex and said they may have a third bike but had no idea how to get a fourth bike even though we had booked the special annex for four guests. Quite bizarre frankly. We did enjoy the private bath in the annex and the food was good. I had expected so much more. It was quite disappointing.

Pros: This hotel is well maintained, clean and is in a nice location and in arashiyama (3mins away from Arashiyama Hankyu) My family and parents enjoyed our stay there as the attentive hospitality of the staff and their effort in engaging with guests made the experience so different. There is an information board (self created by the team) that was organised to highlight the different attraction and recommended food/ restaurant around Arashiyama/ Kyoto. It is unlike a typical brochure you would find in a tourist booth which usually overload you with information/ options. A creative and ingenious thought! I also appreciate that the hotel organises activities to feature/ share local culture (eg: a mini craft session that I attempted) to engage and educate guests so that they get to experience and appreciate local tradition. My special thanks to Shoichi for hosting the little activity and the team for making this stay for my family, a wonderful one.

Pros: If you are interested in a true experience, this is the place you are looking for. Hanaikada is a traditional Japanese inn located on the western outskirts of Kyoto, in a quiet area with breathtaking views of Togetsukyo Bridge, the Katsura River Canyon and Mount Arashiyama. The place gives easy access to several nearby temples and shrines, as well as to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and Arashiyama Monkey Park, and you can even take a boat ride up the river if you feel like it. The traditional dinner is truly amazing and there is nothing like a hot bath after a long day full of exploring. Thank you Hanaikada for a great stay!

However, great conversations with a couple of women in the female section which was fascinating. Room was spacious and mattresses were confirtable.

Pros: Excellent location, close to central Arashiyama and associated attractions. Arashiyama Monkey Park and the Bamboo Grove were highlights and well within walking distance. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Cons:

Cons:

Pros: Value for money. Good location. Comfortable futons. Clean and spacious room.
Cons: The hot bath facility is rather small but nonetheless clean and well-maintained.
7.0 Good
Pros: Excellent location, very close to Arashiyama, and picturesque views from the room. It's the perfect place to stay if you intend to visit the bamboo forest early in the morning. The room is very spacious and they offer good quality, Japanese breakfast served in the room.
Cons: One member of the staff speaks little to no English but insists on speaking Japanese even if you don't understand. The property is well maintained but decoration is a bit old-fashioned.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was always delicious and the staff cheerful and welcoming. Our room was very spacious. This is a great location, close to the train station and town.
Cons: Th ere is no elevator!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, excellent location, large rooms and we enjoyed the SPA facility.
Cons: NA
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good facilities.
Cons: We found Arashirama was very quiet at evening/night time with little to do. However it’s worth a visit in the daytime. It’s a day trip location. We enjoyed our stay but it was expensive.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good locations and near togetsu bridge
Cons: Pillow and blanket not enough for family
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Location is excellent, the room is spacious and very clean, the staffs are very very friendly, cheerful and polite (the best!). I was given skin care sacchet for complimentary and it was really nice and thougtful. Sleeping yukatas were also provided, thats a plus too
Cons: The breakfast is so so, the shower water temperature is hard to adjust (change from super hot to freezing cold drastically) and no private bath tub. We stayed at the 1st floor so its ok, but there is no lift so for those who bring large suitcases might need to put a bit of an effort. And i wish the give us extra pillows
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our room was quite large for Japan standards. There was a nice hot shower and an onsen that you can use which was relaxing. There's a water boiler and instant coffee in the room and there was a choice of breakfast delivered. We had bento which was really tasty. The staff was nice and helpful and was able to book a temple reservation for us that we couldn't go outside of the country. They can communicate perfectly with google translate. The room is clean.
Cons: The bed was uncomfortable. The location of the hotel is lovely and quiet but inconvenient for travel from the Kyoto main train station. There's a subway station close by, but complicated transfers are needed to reach most destinations in Kyoto.
With a stay at JAPANING Hotel Liv Ranroukaku in Kyoto (Arashiyama), you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Saihoji Temple and Katsura Imperial Villa. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
When you stay at Kyoto Utano Youth Hostel in Kyoto, you'll be in the historical district, within a 5-minute drive of Ryōan-ji and Toei Kyoto Studio Park. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.

10.0
Pros: I really enjoyed the traditional Japanese baths which we got to experience. Also it was helpful that there was a self-operating kitchen, so if we brought something from a shop we could make it there. The breakfast buffet was a thing to look forward to and it was delicious. There was a variety of foods including western and asian. For the price it was sold at, I think it was great. The location is great because there are nearby bus stop, a station and great temples which you can visit. If you need something in the morning then you can go to the shops nearby.Finaly, there were great evenings with traditional tea and arts and crafts. We met great people there even thought we could not speak the language.

Pros: Very close to places to visit within the Arashiyama area. Although the hosts could not speak English it was very much appreciated that they tried their best to communicate, even if it is through Google Translate.
Cons: The Guesthouse provided a washing machine for guests to use, although without a dryer around it is very hard for clothes to get dry overnight due to Arashiyama's humid weather conditions. It would be great if the guesthouse did provide that one extra facility.

Pros: The hotel is literally a minute's walk from the train station which is excellent. It also features traditional Japanese rooms which is nice to experience.
Cons: As nice as it may be to experience the traditional Japanese rooms, I found it annoying that the rooms didn't have a tiny bathroom of their own rather than just a common bath (Onsen) several floors down that is open only at designated hours (I don't like someone else deciding for me when I'll use the bathroom). Another annoying thing is that you need to reserve breakfast or dinner at least a day in advance (not an evening in advance, we tried) which kills any chance of spontaneity. Also, the restaurants in Arashiyama tend to close very early (9ish) so be careful; luckily there's a 24/7 supermarket close by. Next time I'd probably stay elsewhere.

Pros: 1. Very convenient location right next to the JR Saga-Arashiyama station (turn left at exit). 2. Friendly front desk staff that speak sufficient English.
Cons: 1. Bathroom is small and cheap-looking (pre-molded). 2. Expensive - at more$300 a night for room only.
