Pros: Amazing rooms, very modern, clean, and spacious. Very friendly and helpful staff. THE most amazing food and drink in a very classy restaurant: Quiet, spacious, with live piano background music. They also made it possible for us to take our (very well-behaved!) Airedale Terrier into the restaurant with us. We are DEFINITELY going back!

Cons: I booked a room with a balcony because due to the pictures it seemed like we would have a view of the city, but instead we had a view of a courtyard and the neighbors. Not sure if this is due to miscommunication or booking.com, but I would seek to make it more clear that just because you have a balcony does not mean you have a city view.

Cons: Breakfast was unexceptional. The coffee was OK. Limited supplies of food which weren't replaced when they ran out, so you had best be down early! We had to ask several times for poached eggs and then finally received fried eggs! Dinner was poor. We waited over an hour for indifferent food. There are much better restaurants in the city centre. No fridge or air con in the room which was west facing and so got a lot of sun. Spa was basic.

Pros: An interesting hotel. First, its location is very good. A couple minutes walk from the Hbf, and from there, an easy stroll into the town centre. It's older, but the rooms have been brought up to modern standards, whilst retaining the charm of older furniture (see photo). I found my room to be comfortable with a great view. The wifi was terrible though. Checkin was no problem with the staff having a far better command of English compared to my German. Polite and efficient. There is a restaurant (I didn't go) a separate breakfast room, bar and lounge, all comfortable. Breakfast is continental, but Omelettes and scrambled egg dishes can be ordered. Although there are steps from the street, there is a lift inside. I liked this place a lot, and it justifies its claimed 4*.

Pros: "Olde worlde" - an old charming building on the edge of the old town on a narrow cobbled street. (although, having visited a huge number of old towns in Germany and elsewhere, this one is very undistinguished). Large room, adequate bathroom. Medium-comfortable beds. A short distance from the magnificent Schwerin palace/castle.
Cons: This seems to be a popular restaurant-keller that also has a number of rooms upstairs. The hotel aspect seems secondary. The reception is sporadically manned by the staff and we had difficulty getting anyone to respond to requests. Lack of lift/elevator means lugging heavy cases up stairs. No air conditioning, although even having to keep the window to the street open all night to stay cool (mid September), the town was very quiet most of the night. Coming by car is a big problem. To load/unload, the way to the hotel involves a long circuit round one-way streets. Then we had to use an open-air municipal car park a long walk (about 0.3 km) away - no fun in the pouring rain.

Pros: The lady who owns the hotel was really nice. We had breakfast there on Easter Sunday and she had bought a chocolate Easter bunny for each of the hotel guests. It's not very far from the city centre. In Summer there is a small boat service on the Pfaffenteich lake where the hotel is located, but it was not yet available when we were there.

Pros: This is a hotel designed primarily for German-speaking guests and there is a language barrier for those of us whose Deutsch ist schlecht as the proprietor's English is worse than my German - however, he is a very jolly individual although I think he runs the admin side all on his own whilst juggling other hotel duties. The hotel is nicely located with many rooms overlooking the lake and it's about 15 minutes from the Hauptbahnhof - less when the little ferry runs across the lake. The old DDR heating system (now redundant) was left in the room as a feature, and the room was large. I am still chuckling about the handwash, called "Green Moment"! This place had a little fridge and tea and coffee facilities.

Cons: If you like carpet in your room you could be in for disappointment, and if I am honest I'd say this was a 55 Euro per room place rather than a 70 Euro. I wasn't entirely convinced by the look of the sheets so slept between two duvets. The shower needed a clean inasmuch as the head probably has limescale build-up. Breakfast was adequate although the selection was not vast. The wifi was non-existent for most of my stay and at some point during the night the radiator just shut down, although that didn't bother me too much. There is no lift here - not a problem for me but could be for others.

The room was under the roof, i.e. HOT, no a/c. The lift only went as far as one floor below, narrow stairs had to be negotiated with luggage. Compared to other places I have stayed in 15-20 Euro overpriced.

Cons: Parking is not easy if you have a large car. We had a room facing the train tracks. It was far more noisy that we thought. With the windows closed it was ok (Except the freight trains will wake you up). If you are a light sleeper this will certainly be an issue for you. Ask for a room facing away from the tracks in that case.

Cons: Closing the well-isolated windows against the noise of passing trains was not really an option given the hot weather: there was no ventilator or air-conditioning in our room (which in itself may be related to the ‘biohotel' nature of the place) and the provided earplugs were of no avail either. I suppose most other rooms do not have this problem to the same extent as ours ('Wien') did. But a good night's sleep is a pretty basic thing in a hotel so I would recommend the management to pay some more attention to this. You are not dealing with ordinary 'city noise' as it is euphemistically termed in the hotel directory.

Cons: The building is old and there is no elevator, plus the stairs are very narrow, which makes it challenging to move bulky baggage up and down. In the room we stayed in there did not seem to be wifi or, at least, the signal was not strong enough. As customary in northern countries, windows have no blinds whatsoever, so remember your eyeshades, especially if you travel in spring/summer, as the sun rises between 4:30 and 5:30. I personally found the bed a little uncomfortable.

Cons: We were given a smaller room than we had booked as there had been a flooding problem. However, a slight adjustment on price was made to account for this. This was the reason I put the property did not meet my expectations. Our first reaction was one of disappointment as we were staying for four nights, but we coped in the room we had and Schwerin had a lot to offer so overall we enjoyed our stay.

Cons: Well, as a man the aesthetics were rather "feminine". I did not mind, but it did occur to me that it might be a place a woman might like better than a man. I did not really "not like" it. I am just mentioning it since it is more than obvious that all those pink colors are not exactly neutral. I noticed that some rooms had bathrooms directly across from the room rather than in the room. If I had known that I might have spent less for a room without a bathroom in the room, but it was ok. I did not buy any Bulgarian rose water products but it would be nice to have the ingredients explained a bit more. I have no idea what some of those ingredients might be, and even if they are altogether safe for people who might be sensitive.

Pros: Location is great, the hostel is not very modern but nice and cosy. We have booked an apartment which was clean and quite spacious. Breakfast was delicious, the owner was very nice and helpful.
Cons: We weren't correctly informed about the cost of breakfast - the receptionist / owner made it sound like it was included in our fee. At the end of our stay it turned out that the breakfast cost was extra 10€/person, so it was an unpleasant surprise. We probably would have paid for it anyway, but the way it was communicated to us was unpleasant.

Pros: Handy location for seeing the castle, it's only a short walk away, and closer to Schwerin Mitte station. Staff are warm and friendly, just really lovely people. Rooms are a bit out of date, but generally comfortable and ours was a good size. The elephant theme is delightful and odd; the breakfast room is hilarious. A few reviews rate the breakfast quite highly; it's fairly standard, decor aside. Perfect pick for staying in this city, would stay again.

Cons: The room was quite small and was directly facing the main bus line which ran continously. The parking ended up costing nearly as much as the room and we were not told that information prior to being billed for it.

Cons: I got the impression that not all the staff really liked dealing with customers. There was a suggestion that customers were basically tiresome (which may of course be the case).

Cons: While the hotel per se is fine, room is clean and spacious, and location is a bit far from schwerin castle, we unfortunately faced a poor service with our booked parking got cancelled when we arrived due to the unexpected cleaning the next morning at 5am. Hence even there is a large covered parking space underground of the hotel building the staff told us that our parking booking is cancelled and we have to drive to find our own parking around town. We spent 1.5-2 hours driving around at night to find the parking which eventually we found at the Schlosspark center shopping mall, costing €20 a night and have to walk around 15 mins back to hotel in the dark. While we think the reason for uninformed cancellation is worse the worst part is the hotel irresponsibility to the problem. Let’s luck be on your side but not ours

Cons: We booked 3 rooms with kitchenettes to enable our group to cook meals as 3 guests had special dietary requirements. Necessary cooking utensils & equipment such as a bowl, cutting board, sharp knife etc were not supplied. Some crockery in cupboards not clean when we checked in. Rooms were not serviced daily & amenities infrequently replaced. Lighting poor.
