Very comfortable bed and size of the room. Some hallway noise.
Great hotel. People very helpful to make it the best stay ever Luv everything
The location was great for walking they old San Juan and to get on cruise ship. A/C in our room didn't work. Only received two channels on tv. Advertised as having its own casino inside hotel and there was no casino. Very disappointed.
Perfectly located for visitors looking to explorer Old San Juan on foot. the entire staff was exceptionally helpful with points of interest and restaurants in the area. Will definitely stay there upon our next visit Wish they had a café or store that was open extended hours.
Nice view to the bay, pretty roof swimming pool and good gym No parking, bad service in the front desk. No attention to the guest. They send me to the wrong room with a family inside... They don't pay attention to what they do in the front desk. Not possible to book in the front desk the man make me reserve through a phone and it was not possible. At the end, I had to make the booking on my cellphone because they were not kind enough to make me a reservation.
Great location, right in old San Juan. Casino was fun at night. Rooftop pool was fun during the day. No view from our room, but that wasn't a big deal.
Expensive and noisy. Nice location
Great stay but had ask repeatedly for washcloths. Going green ( no maid service, just fresh towels ) was pefect....and received a $5 coupon each day you go green. Used it in the restaurant. Downside, they forgot to give it to us one day. And still no washcloths!! Another downside, cable reception was horrible all 4 nights!!! No TV for longer than 20 or so minutes. Very aggravating. So dont expect to relax to a movie or occupy the kiddies while you get ready for dinner. Front desk never had an answer and nothing they could do. Otherwise, great location, comfy beds, quiet hallways at night.
The hotel is in a great location for touring Old San Juan. Taxi access great and right on the waterfront. The staff and service here is perfect. It's so unbelievably overpriced for a mid-range style Sheraton it made us choke paying their prices. However, they know they can hold you hostage with those prices given the other hotel options in Old San Juan. Its quite loud in the hallways, but I must say the location is awesome.
The hotel was very convenient. It is walking distance from the cruise port and the rest of Old San Juan. Staff very friendly.
Would really like my money back. I have told everyone I know to NOT book through Kayak nor stay at this girl.
Great place to stay at since it if very close to the cruise port. Wish they had a shuttle to pick up at the airport. Also pool was too small. Need different tile for the pool area because that tile is very slippery.
The hotel itself was very nice and fun, very nice overall design and loved the hot tubs. The rooms were very out dated and a little gross. Mold in bathroom and it need re-caulking.
Nothing. Staying there
Let me start by saying that I am the type of person that reads negative reviews and most of the time ignores them because I feel some people can never be happy or they paid the price of a 2 star resort and expected services and amenities of a 6 star resort, that is not the situation with me and the Caribe Hilton. Also, I am not a newbie when it comes to travel. I cannot possibly fathom why someone would stay at this resort instead of going to an all inclusive in Aruba, Jamaica, River is Maya, etc... an all inclusive would be less than half the cost when considering food and drink (no exaggeration). Let me put it this way, if the Caribe Hilton was an all inclusive, it would be my least favorite all the resorts that I've been to but it is not all inclusive and you get price gouged with food and drink. Way, way, way too expensive for the value. You are not within walking distance to anything worth noting. Some will tell you that Old San Juan is within walking distance, that's bullcrap, unless you are a person that runs a couple miles every day it is not. It is close to a half hour walk. Who the hell wants to walk a half hour in 86 degree weather then walk up and down the hilly streets of Old San Juan all day then walk another half hour back to the hotel? The city did put in an awesome bicycle path so I guess you could do that, we didn't want to have to worry about them getting stolen while we shopping or eating. I enjoyed Old San Juan but if I wanted to visit again, it would be by a shore excursion while on a cruise. Our room was nice and clean. There were not that many people at the resort, wonder why, but you still couldn't get a good seat at the pool or Lagoon. The pools were small and freshwater and I worried because they didn't have chlorine the type of germs and things that were in it. The hotel was kind enough to put free fruit flavored water out for a few hours a day that ranged from refreshing to disgusting depending on the type of fruit. There was a wedding held there the Saturday we were there. An entire section of the beach was closed down and all the hammocks were removed because of the wedding. The hammocks were one of few things i enjoyed. At the end of the wedding, sometime between midnight and 1AM, someone decided to light off fireworks which I typically enjoy but not being woke out off a sound sleep and not going off feet from my room's balcony. The staff were friendly and helpful except when I was asked at checkout if I had a nice stay and I said not really, the girl just smiled and handed me my check. That was the icing on the cake for me, not only would I never stay at this resort again I would never stay at a Hilton again. For the grande finale, this hotel charges you a hotel fee on top of quoted price AND it is not cheap. Not sure if this is legal, but they know you can't do anything but gripe and moan because it isn't like you can walk to the hotel next door. Bottom line is if you are not concerned about money it's great
This hotel is in a good location in San Juan, close to the airport, Old San Juan, and La Placita Sancturseas. Pretty beach area and overall appears to have nice banquet and resort amenities. From the website the location on the ocean looks appealing. Unaware of the additional resort charge I encountered when checking in. All additional services extremely expensive and gougingly high for mediocre service. Got sick from the food twice, facilities were dirty, loud and ill kept. Additional cost for ocean view balcony was not even close to that was described online. Perhaps it was just the timing and this hotels abundance of touristas that can't grasp good service from udderly piss poor hospitality and lodging. I've been to San Juan many times and travel frequently for work. Was absolutely accosted at the price, the additional resort charge and the complete disarray I found the resort to be in. Will most likely never stay at a Hilton chain again due to this experience. Not to rant on this as I'm pretty low maintenance, have worked many years in hospitality and it takes little to appease me. This experience was grotesque and I will certainly be more diligent in future bookings. Encouraged in discounts and refunds offered by companies such as Expedia for poor customer services such as this. No more Hiltons for me and most likely the last visit to San Juan given the costs.
I really love everything about the Caribe Hilton: the lovely and calm beach, the food, the location, etc. I first came here in 1976 on my honeymoon and have returned twice! Lovely gardens and great service. Prices are very high, especially breakfast!
The location was excellent: right between old San Juan and Condessa. The pool was small but it was made for hanging around and sunning. Beautiful old ruins right next to the hotel made it picturesque. My view of the sea was beautiful. Pool food was a bit oily.
Awesome views, friendly/helpful staff, and beautiful private beach. Best resort in PR!
The staff were amazing and very accommodating The view was amazing, the hotel was very comfortable and easy to get around.
the facilities pool and beach beautiful some rude personnel in valet parking
I like the exclusive beachfront and pool area with the view and close proximity to old San Juan. The staff was rude and sarcastic except for two which I came across towards the end my stay but far in between. Was treated as if we didn't matter since my arrival. Was told I could check in early as long as I paid a $75 fee when I spoke to them over the phone a day earlier and once I arrived was told I had to wait and I waited 6 hours.
It was in the right between the old and the new city.
Every staff interaction was terrific. Friendly, eager, helpful, welcoming. Front desk, restaurant (tapas bar, food and staff shine!) History just walks the halls with you! The rooftop pool and hot tub with harbor view at sunset was something special. Then we left a coat behind, and discovered it after our cruise ship left, they packed it up and Shipped it home. Having to leave so soon. Should have booked a much longer stay!
I liked everything. The staff was incredibly accommodating. The hotel itself was amazing and exactly what I wanted, which was a place with character and charm. Do yourself a favor and stay here.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful hosts, located in an old world city.
It's a historic building with an invaluable art collection. Their claim to have a pool is ludicrous.
The attention to detail and quality was evident in the furnishings and finishes of the hotel. The staff as courteous and responsive and the daily guest wine and cheese reception was a nice touch. It's location is hard to beat and the hotel blends well into the historical city of Old San Juan. There is a lot of traffic directly outside. Not good for early check in.
We loved our stay at this cozy little boutique hotel in the heart of Old San Juan! Lots of character and small rooms (which we liked and found so comfortable). Loved the chandeliers in the bedroom and even bathroom! The staff was so accommodating and friendly and hauled my overstuffed, incredibly heavy bag all the way up 5 flights of stairs with no problem (they don't have an elevator yet). The rooftop was so unique and overlooked the city too! I would highly recommend if you're looking for a different kind of experience than the Hilton and big chain hotels. They're currently installing an elevator but the staff will gladly carry bags up the stairs for you.
Hotel was very cleaned, staff was so attentive and personable, room was comfortable enough for 2 people.
I liked the location on Calle Fortaleza, close to good restaurants and to parking lot. The room was incredibly small. I need to talk to someone in the front desk to get my key, and they had a sign that says "for help text x number". Nobody answered until the next day when I had left already. How did I finally get my key? I opened the desk and there it was, no help, no security, no supervision. I just took it and kept going.
This was our second visit. We love the historic and quaint atmosphere this hotel provides, exactly the experience we wanted in Old San Juan. This small hotel is not crowded and staff treat you like a personal guest. They go above and beyond to help you and ensure you enjoy your stay. It can be a bit noisy but at no fault of the hotel. When you stay on Fortaleza St you are in the center of the action and hear music from neighboring restaurants. We did not mind this. Being in the center of things was important to us and we felt part of the activity and excitement that is Old San Juan.
The position is great , the staff is excellent, clean, nice, the best place to walk Old San Juan
Beautiful hotel!!! Excellent staff! Fantastic location. Our A/C was leaking and they could not get it to stop. The hotel had no other rooms available so to fix the problem they moved us to a nearby hotel. The new place was beautiful as well and it felt like we got an upgraded room. We were very impressed with how the situation was resolved so quickly and smoothly. Nothing! Would have loved to have stayed there if the A/C would have stopped leaking. But they fixed the situation very quickly.
This is a very charming little hotel in a great location in the middle of Old San Juan, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I highly recommend it. The bed was pretty hard. I overpaid because I booked through this site. I would have paid much less booking with the hotel directly. I recommend you do that.
Friendly helpful staff. Excellent location. Iconoclastic décor. I very much enjoyed staying at this hotel, but it does not meet the lowest level of fire safety standards. There is only one open stairway leading to all the floors and no secondary means of escape--not even a fire escape. There is not separation between the lobby and the restaurant. There is no sprinkler system.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. Joyce promptly answered my emails/questions before we got there. Location was perfect. Right in Old Town San Juan. Couldn't find an outlet in the bathroom. Made it a bit more difficult to get ready in the morning. Room was small but wasn't an issue for us because we were only in our room to sleep.
Quaint. The staff was very friendly and hospitable. It was a perfect location for seeing old San Juan The room we had was next to the kitchen so we heard noises throughout the night. But it wasn't bad and I would still come back. My wife and I loved the room overall.
The facilities and staff were excellent. Beautiful rooms, old world charm with modern water pressure and comfy beds. St. Germain is just down the street, and fabulous coffee right around the corner. The infinity pool is hoy tub sized, but the view is lovely.
The hotel had so much character and thought put into every detail. our room was gorgeous! They were very accommodating about us leaving our luggage in a side room when we were several hours early for check in.
La Terraza is a beautifully restored hotel with tile flooring, alcoves, and a beautiful rooftop terrace. There are modern touches as well like walk in showers, flat screen TVs, and a rather reasonably priced mini bar. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the terrace was pretty impressive. Last but not least, Carmen, the front desk manager/coffee barista was incredibly charming, kind, and knowledgeable. If you're looking for a place to stay in Old San Juan, this is it! There is virtually no street parking available which I believe is just a symptom of that part of the city. However, there is a parking garage around the corner but it's a flat rate of $20/24-hrs so be prepared. We also had a difficult time getting to the hotel once we reached Old San Juan due to construction and lots of one way streets. I suggest avoiding the rental car and using some sort of public transport or your own two legs.
Proof super friendly and helpful and the place was awesome!!!! Perfect location
The Gallery Inn makes a wonderful impression when you first arrive because there is so much old world charm and so much artwork and interesting items in the very cool space. The location in Old San Juan is also ecxellent. The customer service really falls flat. It was hit and miss with the staff. A couple of the staff were kind and somewhat hospitable, but there were several who weren't. The amenities were also lacking. If you are hoping for comfortable spaces to relax and read a book, you're really going to be disappointed. The breakfast consists of dry cornflakes, doll-size cups for coffee, and sliced bread, and store-bought lemon loaf. We heard a rumor that you could request eggs, but no one on staff mentioned this to us, and the guy in the "kitchen" certainly didn't give you the feeling that he would be happy to make anything...maybe it was his lack of eye contact or his back always turned to guests. We were happy to have stayed there once, but we wouldn't stay there again.
The hotel was in an old restored villa. It was amazing. The service was great, the location in Old San Juan was close to all the sights, and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Small room, with too many things inside. Price too high for his level.
Excellent location, great friendly staff, wonderful artwork throughout the Inn. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Had to ask 3 times to have toilet paper brought to the room, as the maid never replenished the little bit that we had left.
The Gallery Inn is wonderfully unique. The woman who greeted us and gave us a short tour was warm and pleasant. I would recommned this hotel to certain friends who enjoy unique accommodations. Our room had an excessively strong smell of mothballs. The owner's presence was somewhat disconcerting. I almost felt I was intruding rather than it being "our home away from home".
Amazing history and decor of the building, ideal location. hot water was a little tricky (but it's historical building); loud neighborhood music on Friday nights (I brought earplugs).
Great service, excellent atmosphere in a beautiful surrounding, very nice personal contact with the owner during owner's reception. Nothing.
The Gallery Inn was great, location, service, but when we booked in the bathroom was across the hall and I was not informed until we actually got to the room. For $306 a night the bathroom should have been adjacent to the room. The bathroom was across the hall. For the price of the room this should have been pointed out to me before we were let into the room. Because you haul your suitcases up and down stairs. But for just one night I let it go.
An amazing property with incredible atmosphere A total 'rip off' with an almost non-existent breakfast, in fact the worst I have ever experienced anywhere!
The hotel was very interseting. Many small courts with great views. Hotel rooms were decorated with antique style furnishing. Hotel owner's art work (good) on display throughout. Great location. The beds were only full size vs queen or king. The A/C was kind of loud.
My wife and I wanted something genuinely Puerto Rican and this did it. Only 1 day but very enjoyable in the center of Old San Juan with easy access to anything. Staff was super friendly. Even held our bags after check out so we could keep exploring before boarding a cruise. THEN they kept our bags again, 1 week later when we returned from our cruise and had another 5 hours to kill even though we didn't book another night. A+++
The hotel is comfortable - not exactly a luxury hotel but certainly adequate. The staff is very polite and helpful. I was there for work so I didn't get to use all the facilities so I can't really comment on them, but my stay was very pleasant. I was charged an extra $100 or so tax (for a 3 night stay) in addition to the so-called "taxes" I was charged by Kayak. Whose fault is this? I assume Kayak is to be blamed here, since they do not mention that there are extra fees and taxes in addition to the price they charge. This is a deceptive practice.
staff was excellent. Great location. In need of some repairs and addition of an elevator.
I really loved the rooftop terrace. Maybe it's the atmosphere or the full moon on top of us , we don't now but it really felt relax and I really was in need of that feeling. The hotel is at walking distance of all the old San Juan amenities so I really loved the area! Well it's a boutique hotel and the building was build maybe 200 or 300 years ago it Didn't have any elevator as i expected (only 4 floors use the stairs) but I did have a beautiful experience and the building is nicely decorated . The art through all the hotel was very interesting.
Great place, excellent location, wonderful staff! Rooftop terrace & pool lots of fun.
The location was excellent & the staff very friendly. The room is original & decor great, just a bit too tight for comfort. The breakfast request was for 7am, it arrived at 7:20, with taxi pick up at 8am. Maybe a selection of tea, not just green tea, and coffee ready & hot h20 would have taken off the edge.
Old world charm, quiet, helpful staff, in the heart of Old San Juan, friendly cats, beautiful art work, and a comfortable mattress. Nothing.
It is a very nice boutique hotel. It is close (walking distance) to all the attractions in Old San Juan. Very friendly staff. Our room had a dining table, family room, hammoc, and a niece view to San Juan harbor. Perfect price for Old San Juan. There is no parking like all the other hotels in Old San Juan (500 years old city). Some areas need to dust off more often than they do.
The best locaction and reasonable price. Welcoming and helpful staff. Charming old structure. Incredible to walk out the door and see the Capilla del Cristo right there. Because of it old structure lots of stairs and ups and downs and delicate plumbing. But that's part of the charm! No staff at night but phone in case any problems arise.
Close to Old Town. The breakfast offered was Poor and when we booked I was not offered the cruise 10% discount if prepaid.
It was very accessible to Old San Juan and very comfortable.
Location Run down dirty
the staff was very, very helpful & friendly, the great location
The location, the helpful staff, room was comfortable. No in-room wi-fi was my major gripe; other minor things: shower was too small; room was too cold with A/C and too warm without it; most channels on the TV list didn't actually work
The free and fast internet pc in the lobby free parking was almost impossible to find and the only reasonably priced parking lot was more than four blocks away.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean, great hotel for the price
The price was great for the location. Everything in old san juan was right at our fingertips. The room was kept very clean. You could smell the detergent in the towels and sheets everyday. Excellent housekeeping staff. The condition of the room was a bit outdated though. The rug felt grimy on our barefeet and there was rust on the fringes of the shower. This was great for a one or two night stay but I'd probably look for better quality for anything longer than that.
Staff was unusually helpful and informative. Bistro inhouse was excellent and the staff were professional and very nice. Rooms were clean and quiet. Relaxing experience. Highly recommended. The hotel is not close to Old Town, but it is in a quiet and historic neighborhood.
Good location. One of the better rooftop restaurants in the city.
The location is very good if you like to visit old San Juan. It only costs about $20( for two) taxi to get to the hotel and cost $15( for two) to get to the cruise ship port. There are only small window close to the ceilings, but the rest of room is good. Bathroom is very good with the price we paid.
Staff was very courteous and helpful. The location was very convenient. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The street is very noisy at night. The corner bar rocks until 4:00 AM on the weekend. You are on your own for parking.
Cheap hotel one step above a hostel.
Room was dated, hair in bathroom, toilet clogged, shower head calcified and dirty, twin sized bed and I order to get an additional two size bed you have to pay $25-$50... Last but not least bed bugs, I stayed one night and got out of there. Location
Location in the center of Old San Juan is great. I did not like that I paid extra for a room with balcony access that didn't have it. The doors were locked with key. When I asked for assistance with the doors the staff acted surprised that they were locked with key and none of them knew where to find them or how to get the doors open. The air conditioning was also set to heater when we arrived to the room. When we mentioned the staff member at the front desk simply said to wait it out for it to cool off. Sorry but if I wanted heat in Puerto Rico I could simple open the balcony doors. Oh never mind those were yet another amenity that was falsely advertised.
Located in the middle of Old San Juan. Easy walk to most everything. Hotel was built in 1860, so it's not super modern. Most everything works, just a little slow sometimes. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Would stay again. Wasn't disappointed in much, just understand going in that it's 155 years old.
Location was great
Service and location.
large room, great balcony view, right in the heart of old San Juan
The location is very central to visit the Old San Juan area. The description of the hotel indicates that they have parking, when I almost get there I called for directions to the parking and they said "We don't offer parking". Well the main reason I chose this hotel was because of the parking, I know for sure that parking in Old San Juan can be a nightmare. To make it worse, it Rained, but that's not the hotels fault of course.
The front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Rooms were big and quite comfortable. Our room had a view of an old building, but who cares, we weren't there for the view. No coffee/tea maker in room. A/C way too cold, but was adjusted when asked.
Convenient location, clean rooms noisy, poor air conditioning, lights did not all work. No safe. no dead bolt/security chain. No continental breakfast as advertised. TV channels were few and uninteresting
I wouldn't stay there again. I was treated poorly by the hotel staff and service seemed to be inexistent except for the very nice cleaning lady. It's over priced for what it is and shouldn't be so well rated. the service was the worst I've ever experienced. The manager yelled at me with no apparent issue. He yelled for something that had happened the previous night.
perfect position downtown of Old San Juan Following our stay in this Hotel, we were not happy with our selection: 1th - the room had no windows 2nd - we had less than 18° C (approx. 64° F) in our room because the air condition could not be regulated or switched off. After the first night we made a complaint on the lobby. Following their caretaker tried to close the fan / blower in the rooms - but without sucess. The morning after we had taken a beautiful cold for the next 3 days... For this hotel we can't make any recommandation - also when the position is perfect downtown of Old San Juan.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Location was excellent-close to many good restaurants and the cruise ship terminal. Room smelled very musty. There was no window nor any way to control the room's temperature. It was very cold in the room.
The staff were very helpful in recommending good places for an authentic experience in old San Juan and helping with transportation. The rooms were very quiet, roomy and clean and the central location was perfect for walking around the city, day or night. The air conditioning is controlled in a central location and at times it got rather warm before the A/C kicked in.
the continental breakfast was terrible. just bad coffee and white bread
Large rooms, sparsely furnished, but very clean. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Excellent front desk, very friendly with good suggestions about restaurants and things to do. The room was very large and clean, the king size bed was wonderful with top quality sheets. The location cannot be beat for those interested in the Old City. This hotel is right in the middle of Old San Juan and our window view faced out over unsightly rooftops -- but there is no way for the hotel to address this problem! No coffee machine in room (would have been nice since our flight left before the breakfast room opened).
Location This hotel required me to give them my credit card number upon arrival. Which I did. But my room was already bought and paid for through Booking.com three months earlier. I then spent a week on a cruise ship and never used my credit card again. When I returned home I found that my credit card had been used for a booking at the Sheraton (an unauthorized charge since I never stayed there) Since S & J Suites is the only place that recieved my credit card number my assumption is that the number was stolen and by someone at the S & J Suites and used fraudulently. I have turned the matter over to the fraud unit at my credit card company for their investigation. The night manager's name who took my credit card # at the S & J Suites is Angel.
