Pay the extra cash and go to a decent hotel , had to move rooms ,room was filthy and outdated, bedding stained and unable to lock the door between the adjoining room that was occupied with guests that I was not travelling with nor are you able room door

I liked that the VIP section had their own private pool and members didn't have to make reservations. The food wasn't too good and got a few of us really sick.
Despite the problems with the room, the staff was very helpful. They had to switch my room twice. The first room smell like a smoking room . The second room had a real strong smell of mold. After going back and forth for 3 hours I finally got a nice room. The hotel was too far from the city of Punta Cana

Very nice pools, sizeable clean rooms, friendly staff, pretty grounds. Tried to charge more than we booked for; problem getting adjoining rooms; seaweed-filled ocean; mediocre food and slow waitstaff, zero entertainment on the Royal side. A bit dull.
The entire resort was amazing, hard for me to explain how beautiful this resort is. Very clean and well kept. The staff was very nice and professional. Definitely a great place to go if you want to relax and just get away. This was my first time in Punta Cana, and I will return to this resort again before year end. The free Wi-Fi outside the room was a plus, you had signal everywhere. The food was better than I expected, there are a lot of restaurants (Options) to choose from. The best part is that you can eat at the sister resort as well, not reservations needed for any of them. Best vacation so far to the Dominican Republic. The water pressure in the room was low later in the day (but I understand, being Dominican myself, that they try to conserve water). And I had some issues with the Wi-Fi signal in my room, outside worked great.
When we arrived they had no reservation for us. They claimed we were booked at the catalonia bavaro not the royal. Our friends that booked with us had a room waiting. I showed them my receipt that clearly stated catalonia royal bavaro. We waited and waited for hours until we were given a room, only to have to move to three rooms until we had a room that the air conditioner worked. Now it's 2am and we are tired. We came to celebrate our anniversary and mentioned it to the front desk when we checked in. I also sent an email to the hotel. We also brought 2 other couples with us to celebrate. Nobody cares. The food was horrible. The pool was chipping paint. Tiles at the pool were broken. The personal service was terrible. We travel around the world and this was the worst I have seen. I can keep going but what's the point!
The poll are a was lovely and very relaxing. Good variety in the restaurants although food was often not as hot as it could have been. Overall, I would say this was a four star not five star hotel.

Very good hotel for its price. Delicious all-inclusive meal at plenty of restaraunts.Nice pools, beach is not over-crouded. Staff is friendly, but sometime it takes time to get understanding of what you really want :) 1) Only one car rental in the hotel (Prestige rent-a-car) with not good service (the longest and complicated procedure of getting car rented I ever had!). Although prices are a little bit lower then Europcar and Avis in Bavaro. 2) Stupid system of 200$ limit when you want to pay by charging the room. 3) Very shallow ocean on the beach.
Liked staff friendliness and comfort of the resort. The food was not as good as we expected and the service can be at times very slow. Room service not consistent in providing towels.
Food was actually incredible; it was almost the highlight of the trip! Staff was superbly friendly, and all the decor of the lounge areas and restaurants was splendidly top-notch. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to the DR! That I had to leave! =]
Relaxing on the beach, loads of different restaurants, Casino & Pool and Beach Bars. The sunbeds by the pool were always reserved even although there was a sign stating that you cannot reserve any beds. The majority of people staying at this hotel are Spanish. For English speaking people wanting to meet lots of new people I would not recommend.
Everything about our stay was great. We actually secured a villa in Santo Dimingo, and decided to spend New Year's eve in Punta Cana at the last minute. We saw the reviews for Catalonia Resort on another site (4stars), and decided to book. EXCELLENT decision!!! They had a great New Year's eve show w/ entertainment, followed by dancing w/ a great DJ!!! Food, beach, staff drinks, and all-inclusive format was a TREAT!!! Rooms are somewhat dated, however, offset by other pluses!

The room was clean and had a nice decoration. Comfort bed and spacious room. The food quality was very good and good variety as well. The Steak restaurant was great. The staff was very nice and helpful but very relaxed, they were not harassing you. We felt very relaxed. The surroundings of the hotel are very nice with lots of birds singing and fishes... Very natural and relaxing. Check inn and check out were very easy. The beach is full of algae as all of the other beaches in the area due to the problem of El Niño. Very sad as this area is known for its beautiful beaches. But this is not a something the hotel can control. It is a general problem. I talked with a service manager from Cap Cana and he told me they have the same problem there for almost a year now. What I did not liked from Catalonia was a terrible odor that comes from the water they use for sprinklers on the green areas and gardens. I don't know what kind of water they use but is smells awful.
There was so much to do that I couldn't do it all in my trip! The food was really good and there were many places to eat. The staff was very nice and helpful. I spoke some Spanish and I think that made a huge difference. I was there alone and the staff adopted me like I was part of their family always making sure I was having fun and had what I needed. The room was beautiful. I met someone from Spain who had been coming to this hotel 7 years in a row after trying other hotels. I would love to do the same! There is a lot of seaweed on the beach. But they have a truck that comes by to clean it a few times a day. It wasn't something that would ruin my trip.
Tidy room, hospitable staff, good bar and lounge, nice entertainment, tidy rooms. Very good restaurant with superb selection of meals. The beach was very shallow.
Loved the staff, they were all so friendly. The variety of food was very good too. We loved the cleanliness of the beach, we were in the "Privaleged" area, but I feel if we didnt go with the honeymoon suite it may have been a different story. Cleanliness of the room was disappointing, and they never cleaned at the same time. One of the buffet places was terrible, there was always bugs flying around the food. We had a leak in our ceiling at midnight one night, and ended up having about 50 gallons of water that had to be let out in our bathroom so we had to move everything out & we didnt get compensated for any of that. It was frustrating.
Complete heaven after spending 3 days in Santo-Domingo. Staff is friendly and non-intrusive. Almost everything is already in the price, including cocktails. We heard from others that sometimes valuable things like mobile phones get missing. Hotel provides safe in the room, use it and then you will not have to worry.
The Lobby and Restaurants are very pleasant. The food is O.K. but not exceptional. The staff is very nice. Even though I have certain complaints below, I would still recommend if you are in a tight budget as the rooms were clean and in a general pleasant stay. It was impossible to get a hold of them prior to my stay for a clarification even though I tried on many occasions via phone & email. We also requested via booking.com that all 4 rooms be located together and they had us all spread out in different buildings I assume because they were separate bookings. I had to wait over an hour at check in before they came up with something a bit more acceptable. Primarily I think because one of the rooms was for my 87 yr old mother and they had her clear across the other side of the hotel. There were other minor inconveniences. There was also constant loud music in the pool area with a rowdy crowd. Not sure if this was an exceptional weekend or they cater to a rowdy crowd.
A really excellent hotel, the buffets were lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the resort is right on the beach. There was nothing not to like about this resort. I would definitely return. Some of the amenities in the room were beginning to look in a state of disrepair.
Very nice gardens, very testy meal, the value for money is exelent! Attencion!!!! Never give them your clouthes for washing and pressing - they spoiled my wife's two evening dresses! Make reservation throug the booking.com the local price is higer for 25%
The room was very nice, the beach too, food - good, prise - excellent! Never give them your clouthes washig and pressing for! And ask the room far away from the evening activitis playses - impossible to sleep :)

The resort was clean all around. The staff were all very likable and I enjoyed talking to them. The room was (7220) was clean and spacious. It took me a night to get adjusted to the firmness of the king size bed. Television (32'') was small for the size of the room. A few issues with the room. The frosted glass door did not fully enclose the bath area. This allowed odors, noise and stem to travel outside of the bath area. Missing the door stop for the glass bathroom door. The exhaust vent in the bathroom was partially painted over with visible dirt buildup. Pools were clean and the beach and pool chairs were plentiful during peak times. Service was prompt and courteous. Some nightly entertainment was provided. The food in the buffet dining room did not appeal to me. Other than a family dinner the first night, I did not eat there for dinner again. Breakfast was not much better. I just made do with what they had. Plenty to choose, but the quality of food did not suit me.
Location is beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. A lot of activities to do for different ages.t Toilet was not working and took 3 days to fix it
The food and the Mexican restaurant was great. The bed was very good and I loved the fact that everything is close to the rooms. The service was very good and responsive to all your needs. I would go back to it again.
Food Room old and dirty
The pool! I didn't like the room is was dirty! It has pests like roaches little lizards! The AC barley worked! And the Hot Water sucked! They had little ants on the bedside boards! I will never go to this place again! and the FOOD was horrible!
good food, nice environment, watersports included although we didn't know it was included until the day before we left.. they didn't inform us of these activities included..and additionally the watersport kiosk is located in a non visible area Air conditioning was not working for the first 2 days of our stay in any of the rooms, however after we decided to move to another hotel because it was too hot to sleep, we got a massage session for free, some fruits and a late checkout. Reservation for the specialty restaurants was full for the rest of the week and weekend even that we got to the hotel on Wednesday..
The price. But there wasnt enough to justify how much I paid. So it was a bad value. Dreams Punta Cana was a much better resort. I did not like the sometimes undercooked/raw food. Otherwise the food was never better than ok. I did not like the customer service and at times the staff was unprofessional. The first room we were given had a broken shower. The second room we went to had poor quality features. Low water pressure. Barely enough hot water. Uncomfortable bed. Seaweed covered beach. Had to pay for wifi. No real bar. Dreams punta cana resort is 20 minutes north is 50% more expensive, but 200% better quality. Dont go here. Its not worth it. If you do go youll see why.
