Pros: Ken, on the Club Floor always provides incredible service. He makes your stay! Frank is no longer there. You will not find a better location, or staff on the hotel side.
Cons: The spa service is sub-standard, and over-priced. Therapists were not attentive to requests, and hearing complaints about their job because they didn't receive benefits, was unsettling. Urban Nirvana in Charleston offers the best service. Consider opting for their spa at Wentworth Mansion. The service and value trump Charleston Place, any day. Also the spa charged a 20% tip without notifying me, and overcharged for the services rendered. The spa therapists aren't Belmond Charleston Place employees, and are quick in letting you know that.

Pros: Located in historic Charleston, a great hotel. A bit pricy but rooms (especially the newly renovated ones) are great. Stayed in a Deluxe King room. Marble bathrooms with walk in shower. King bed and space for a small sitting area. Free WiFi. HD TV in the room but the HD channels often froze up. The bar had live music every evening which was nice. Rented a car to get there from the airport and self parked in the garage ($16 daily). They do offer valet parking for $32 daily. The historic market is just across the street and the hotel is within walking distance of the battery and basically all restaurants in the historic district. If you aren't up for a walk, always bike cabs waiting outside the main entrance to take you somewhere. Overall, a very enjoyable experience but you definitely are paying for it.

Pros: Right in the center of the historical district. Awesome restaurants and shopping just outside the door. Staff was SO personal and accommodating. We had dining suggestions and felt like we were part of the group immediately. We sat and talked later that night to SuSu. We both said we will stay here on our next trip
Cons: Our room was recently renovated. Due to the cold, fresh air wasn't an option so we were overwhelmed w fumes. They were able to move us and saved the trip. Great 2nd room.

Pros: Wonderful stay in beautiful courtyard patio room. The staff were responsive and helpful without being intrusive. Even when we made difficulty for them (demand for in-room refrigerator; screw up on date of check out; arriving with two vehicles instead of one) the staff handled it superbly and with grace. Loved being near the shops along King St and the restaurants on Meeting and Market. The bar was just that - not a sports locker room or TV lounge; perfect for a drink and a talk. My only frustration was that the weather was nice but not nice enough to dine romantically in the courtyard after dark.
Cons: This is NOT a criticism. The Peninsula Grill (the only in-house eatery) is a fine establishment but expensive with a menu unsuited for anything but fine dining. An in-house or affiliated restaurant serving more family/daily meal focused fare would be an added bonus, especially if combined with some limited ability to have the meal delivered ala room service.

Pros: The location is great. Right in the center of main tourist area but kept very cool and calm once walking through the entrance door One block from main shopping and restaurant area.
Cons: Only thing I can think of would be .. I wish our room had a bath rub instead of just a shower

Pros: Roomy, comfortable bed, staff is friendly and helpful. Was nice to have a full sized kitchen.
Cons: We stayed in the residence area, these were the only rooms back when we stayed frequently from 2010 to 2015. This older part of the hotel has gone down hill, it used to be awesome, the best place in Charleston. I suspect the new hotel tower is great, but I found our room a bit disappointing. The water pressure was poor, hard to rinse shampoo from your hair and it took forever to get hot water up to the room. We will definitely stay in the newer rooms next time.

Pros: Location is great - convenient walking distance to all areas. The larger room is perfect for two friendly staff the breakfast is very good and convenient the daily wine and cheese is an added plus! paid parking is convenient
Cons: when we arrived - the small room we had smelled very moldy - we went back to the office and they gave us a better , larger room our room was in the inner core - so no windows - the good news was that it allowed us to sleep longer in the morning

Pros: The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. They are genuinely interested in making your stay the best possible. The breakfast at Circa 1886 greatly exceeded our expectations. This isn’t your continental breakfast. This is a full fledged delicious breakfast cooked for you. It was fantastic.
Cons: If I’m being critical, the pillows were a little too soft for my preference, but that’s being really picky.

Pros: Location of hotel is ideal. Close proximity to most of the must-sees in Charleston. Room was very pretty and well-decorated.

Pros: This inn was exactly what I wanted for our 2-night stay. Room was adorable. Terrace for breakfast and the daily wine and cheese reception in the early evening was romantic (even though I was there with my sister) and relaxing and had beautiful fountain and landscaping. Pros: Excellent location in the historic area, exceptionally pleasant staff, very comfortable beds. If you eat breakfast every day, get the breakfast package. This made our stay even more relaxing. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Pros: The bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Room had a nice updated look and great bathroom amenities. Our room overlooked the gorgeous courtyard & pool. Cons: No complaints! Would love to stay here again

8.3
Pros: I appreciated the updates to the hotel, which I know some people do not like because they altered the historic character (I had not visited prior). Our room was very clean, linens fresh, and the beds comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent--close to the great restaurants we wanted to try (like Husk, FIG), the waterfront, King Street shopping, and the Saturday market at Meeting and Calhoun. Our young kids loved the rooftop pool, which was VERY crowded with 20-somethings on a Saturday afternoon. You couldn't get a chair, which was not a problem since our kids wanted to stay in the pool the whole time. We only encountered a few staff, and they were helpful and pleasant.
Cons: The rooms are extremely small, which is typical in older hotels. Our room location was awful, which I didn't realize until it was too late (our kids were in bed and falling asleep). We were right next to the elevator bay, and we could hear people coming and going (very LOUDLY) all night long. Also, if you are given a room adjacent to King Street and you are staying over a weekend, you might want to switch to the other side of the hotel. There was a huge party (at the art museum, I think) and the DJ music was vibrating our room until past 10 p.m. This won't be a problem for you if you are out late and without kids, but it was a rough night for us.
Excellent
8.8
Pros: Hotel is extremely convenient to everything - all within walking distance. And having a pool was definitely great at the end of the day spent walking or bicycling everywhere.
Cons: What I did NOT like was once a person booked through Kayak, the hotel would not help you with your room. I called the hotel prior to arrival to make sure I had a king sized bed as I requested but the hotel refused to assist me since I did not book directly with them. So although I again requested a king size bed for my wife and I, and for our married friends as well, through the Kayak booking agency - neither of us had a king sized bed but instead two double beds! And the beds were like marshmallows so you sink in them. While that may be fun for some but many of us like support under our backs. I informed the hotel of my displeasure and request for change; I was "yes'd" but received no change. So I now assume that the most undesireable rooms are avaialble on Kayak because it would lead to toomuch aggravation for the hotel to try to get the normal rate for them.

Pros: Our family has made a holiday trip to an historic city a Christmas tradition. This year we chose Charleston and The Mills House. We loved everything about it! The staff was polite, friendly, and always ready to help. Guest Services Manager Alfonce McKinney made sure we had a great room with a terrific view. The location of the hotel was perfectly situated. We were conveniently located within walking distance of everything. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back!
Cons: There was nothing we didn't like. Great place!

Pros: The entrance to the Hotel is tastefully done in a "Southern Charm". Rooms were somewhat small as the beds were full size and not queen size, however, my view of St. Michaels Church spire each morning and evening was breath taking.
Mediocre
2.2
Pros: Small rooms, smaller bathrooms, no balconies, rooms badly need refurbished. Dingy looking. Not any nicer than a Super 8. It's conveniently located is the best that can be said for it, but at that price it's not worth it. Stay at the Wentworth instead, only a bit more for an actual luxury hotel.

7.4
Pros: Excellent location! Walking distance to many highlights within Charleston—tours, Rainbow Row, Waterfront Park, markets, shopping on King St., and close to some of the most amazing restaurants. When staying, make sure you visit Eli’s Table (one block away) for any meal of the day! We enjoyed the hotel pool and patio area—clean, spacious and scenic.
Cons: While the location is excellent, and the hotel lobby & courtyard are visually appealing, the rooms leave much to be desired. Even with a balcony view, the room was a bit dark and dreary. Our tub did not drain for several hours after each use (but was fixed by a friendly staff member a few hours after I called the problem in. They gave us a room down the hall to use in the meantime). The sink handle in the new room broke and the water ran constantly. The walls are thin and you can hear all conversations. The guest service is hit or miss. We had great interactions with some of the staff who were both pleasant and accommodating, and other experiences with staff who were quite the opposite. Overall, I’d choose this hotel again for location alone, but if you’re going to spend a lot of time in your room, your money would be best spent elsewhere.

Pros: The hotel is very unique and has a great smell?! Not sure what that is, but great touch! Lots of uniqueness and beauty. Room was clean and spacious! Bed very comfy with great pillows! Close to sooo many great shops and restaurants! Would stay again and recommend for many reasons.
Cons: Housekeeping staff tried entering our room at 8:30 am (check outs not until 11, and we had previously requested a late checkout of noon). She knocked one time, lightly. We didn’t even get a chance to get up from bed, get decent and answer the door before she was already entering. This is not ok. Also, upon arrival the front desk staff and manager were conversations amongst themselves, not even greeting us or talking to us. Just amongst each other and getting us checked in. No welcome words or conversation. Like we were an inconvenience to their conversation.

Pros: Great location. Cool building. Nice restaurant staff.
Cons: Checking in did not go well. We arrived at 1:30 and were told the room was not ready and we should come back in an hour. We came back at 3:30 and the room was still not ready. Then when we got to our room, they lost our bag tag and it took over an hour to bring our bags to the room. We also didn't get the king size bed, but instead two doubles. They weren't very apologetic about it all either. They charged me $0.50 for a call to the 1-877 help number for wifi issues. Parking wasn't great either.

Pros: Hotel is convenient and within walking distance to every point of interest. Beautiful hotel with friendly staff.
Cons: As with a lot of nice hotels in the Charleston area, there was a big wedding party in the hotel lobby who occupied the entire area of the lobby and their one restaurant during the ceremony so it was difficult to get any food or refreshment at the hotel during that timeframe.

Cons: Beds are tiny, had double queen room and they are just a size bigger than a twin.

7.4
Pros: The hotel was very well-maintained and the staff was very friendly. The hotel was centrally located in the historic district.
Cons: Our room, a Deluxe King Bed room, was very tight on space, especially the bathroom. There was no vanity - just a pedestal sink - so there was nowhere to put any toiletries in the bathroom. The toilet was so close to the sink that part of the toilet tank was under the sink, which made it very difficult to reach the toilet tissue which was mounted on the wall between the sink and toilet. The bathroom was so small that the bathmat couldn’t lay flat on the floor.

Pros: We visit Charleston often and this was our first time staying at the Mills House. It was beautiful! We stayed overnight and loved the location, decor, and the cleanliness. We parked in the parking garage and access to the hotel was very easy. This will be a place that we come back to in our future visits to Charleston.
Cons: Only small complaint I have was the pillows. They were fluffy until you laid on them, then they became flat and hard.

Pros: Great Location Clean rooms Friendly Housekeeping staff Convenient Parking if not valet Great location to some excellent restaurants I would stay here again
Cons: Restaurant and Bar in hotel I would not recommend Service poor, house wine limited and poor, do not waste your time there are excellent places right out the door No mooring coffee available in the lobby or at the bar. Was told it would be set up by 6am, but both days nothing between 530-700am

Pros: Convenient to wedding events as we were able to walk to the church and reception. The location is great for everything in the center of Charleston as far as dining and shopping. The hotel lobby and common areas have a lot of charm, and the rooms are adequate and comfortable, but small.
Cons: Rooms are on the small side as are the bathrooms. Our room was on the second floor and all we could see was scaffolding outside our window. The valet staff was a little inattentive.
Excellent
9.3
Pros: The location was perfect - right downtown, walking distance to all the major attractions. Beautiful, historic building. Nice room, clean and well-decorated.

Pros: Good location
Cons: Poor staff. Tried to charge me $100 for 8 place settings for the extra suite we paid for. We had paid for 5 rooms and a parlor suite and told front desk three times we needed place settings. Then a hour before the event the banquet manager personally comes to the room and says he needs $100 before he can bring up the dishes.

Pros: really lovely hotel. The service is what stood out the most to me. Every single person I encountered was top notch (even more so than some internationally-known hotels I have stayed at). Even when there was a tiny issue with my room service (more on me for being picky) - there was no attitude from anyone, everyone was happy to make an adjustment. The replacement meal came in less than 10 minutes with apologies from the chef even! (And the meal was delicious, btw) I even received a follow-up call from reception about 30 minutes after I got to my room to make sure everything was ok. That's never happened to me before. The room was beautiful--dark wood floors, large four-poster king bed, updated bathroom. Top notch service, great location right by the waterfront and some amazing restaurants.
Cons: Noise: the wood floors are so beautiful, but that means you have to hear your inconsiderate neighbors clunk around on their floors with their shoes on. Perhaps a very sweet note when guests check in (or in the room) that while the floors are beautiful, please be mindful of your neighbors and take your shoes off while in the room." Also, in the morning I could hear everyone's conversations from the hallway very loudly! Size of Room/Bathroom: this is with the caveat that I had a very low rate that provided me with one of the more standard rooms, so it was not necessarily unexpected. For what I paid, it was a decent size, bathroom just decent size as well. If I actually planned to do work while there, I would recommend getting a bigger room as mine did not have a desk.

Pros: The overall vibe, from the room decor to the customer service was outstanding. Everything was clean, the room was better than expected, and the whole hotel was fun to walk through and view the artwork. The customer service across the board really made the experience though. Everyone was fantastic and eager to assist!
Cons: Only two minor strikes. The bed was almost too comfortable. It was extremely soft and the pillows were softer. The rooftop bar was an awesome experience in the evening, however we arrived for lunch the first day and over half of the menu was unavailable at the time.

Pros: the vendue was wonderful. the staff were firefly and helpful and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. the location was also great. if you want even more character it may be better to say in the 26 vendue building but the advantage of 19, where I stayed, was that amenities were closer.

Pros: The location was very good. I liked that they gave you 2 water bottles each day. The shower was great and the bathroom was VERY large.
Cons: The bed was very uncomfortable and the pillows were a joke. They were tiny and lumpy. The room could have been better maintained. One of the drawer pulls came loose. One day we didn't have enough towels. They usually provide 3 or 4, but we only had 2. I use 2 towels when I shower (one for hair and one for body). I didn't realize there were not enough towels. My husband got out of the shower and didn't have a towel! I had to give him one of my wet towels. When I told the girl at the front desk, she didn't even apologize. She just made a note to provide us with extra towels. We didn't want EXTRA towels. We just wanted the normal number. The AC was VERY loud! I had to turn up the TV every time it turned on.

Pros: The location was perfect. Could not be better to walk around town. Meeting street is there and the market is right there plus you are one block from King street. Parking is easy as well and the hotel area is safe. The pool is small but right on meeting street and has covered seatinbso you can watch the pool but be out of the sun if you want to. That was neat.
Cons: THe halls were under construction. They appear to have needed the renovation. Room was nice but it is small. We were not in it much so it was fine. If you are in the room a lot, this is a challenge.

Pros: The staff was amazing. They booked us in a room that someone was staying in. For the inconvenience they compted us two tickets to any of the following two places: horse drawn carriage ride at palmetto carriages, tickets to Fort Sumpter, or tickets to the aquarium. The continental breakfast was good, but possibly due to the extensive amount of food they offered it lacked greatly on taste.

Cons: As an OCD mama, i went to town with my Lysol wipes... in the COVID climate, I was a little shocked it wasn’t a smidge cleaner (dust on light switches?). I hear other Marriott properties using tents and seals to show what had been disinfected. We did not experience that.

Pros: Proximity to restaurants/shops.
Cons: Was hesitant to book after reading the many negative reviews about the the hotels lack of cleanliness and finally booked thinking, 'it's probably just people over reacting'... It's not. When we checked in and arrived to our room, the previous guests' room service tray was still outside. Not a big deal, but queued my curiosity about inside. Upon entering it all looked clean. Bed made, bathroom dry and stocked. When I finally took a seat on the bed, I saw it. The linens had multiple brown and red stains on the quilt and pillowcases. And a few strands of hair. We immediately asked for the bed to be remade (which they did and apologized for), but it was still difficult feeling comfortable when we crawled in bed after a long day.

Pros: Staff is gracious and welcoming. Our room was spotless. Other reviewers have noted that rooms are small. Fine by us as we tend to spend very little time in the room while in Charleston. (We are frequent visitors to the city.) Our stay was blissfully quiet. The courtyard is charming and inviting - if only it had a bar...Location: perfect. Easy walk to anything in Charleston you might want, and gorgeous in all directions. This was our first stay at Elliott House - we'll definitely be back.

Pros: Located 1 mile away from hisoric downtown Charleston.
Cons: The hotel! The room was ok but airconditioner did not work. Breakfast was no good. Hotel management decided to redo the parking lot during Spoletto Fest, typically a very busy weekend. Parking lot was very small, little to no room to park. Need to iron a shirt? Don't bank on using their iron and iron board. Both were run down. The iron did not even heat ip. The iron board was all warped. Whomever owns this hotel needs to seriously consider getting into another carreer field. Will never stay at this hotel again. Not worth saving $30/night. Pros: Room was 20x11 nicely appointed for a comfort inn. But no towel racks in bathroom. Why do parents allow their children to run freely throughout the hallways? The hotel should have a "kid free floor".

Pros: The breakfast was fresh and filled regularly The bed was very comfortable
Cons: The hotel did not get CBS, TBS or Tru during the NCAA Basketball. The front desk could not supply hair spray when asked. The maid gave us 1 little bottle of shampoo for a 3 day stay, fortunately I had alternative shampoo in my suitcase. The coffee machine in the lobby was not functional

Pros: We came in a bit early so they held our luggage and we explored the town. We were not back until after eight to get our luggage. No worries. They were all smiles and loads of help even though the desk was swamped with late comers. The front desk workers were happy professionals. The breakfast staff was friendly and courteous. You should expect this from a downtown hotel staff. You get it here.
Cons: There is a smoking section off the front desk. Because of where we parked our car we had to pass by it. The smokers were messy. No one was watching over the area that carefully. I am a smoker. But it was too much to ask others to put up with. If you did not use this exit you would not notice.

Pros: I think hotel breakfasts have been going downhill over the pat few years. However, I was pretty impressed with the selection of breakfast foods offered. I didn't have to actually wait to get my hotel keys fixed- they didn't work after they were in my wallet all day long. As a female I enjoyed the makeup remover wipes- what a savior honestly. All the employees from front desk to janitor were extremely friendly. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Cons: I tried taking the stairs one morning from the 3rd floor to the lobby. The stairs didn't lead to the lobby or maybe I didn't go far enough.

Pros: Free parking
Cons: We couldn't sleep because it was too noisy!!! Initially we were happy to be assigned a corner room on the 4th floor but things got weird after we went to bed at 11pm. We heard every noise that happened on the fourth floor (I.e., door slamming almost every do minutes for the whole night, tiolet and showers going on and off, people talking, house keeping, footsteps, etc...). We were exhausted after a day of sightseeing and was relying on a good night of rest; we were so wrong.

Pros: Breakfast Buffet, Free Parking,Promptly Brought last minute cot to our room when our son was able to join us.
Cons: We arrived at 2:30; a half hour before check in, and they would not even check to see if our room was ready prior to 3:00 because it "wouldn't be fair to others whose rooms were not ready prior to 3PM" I have never had that happen. We waited with our luggage for a half hour and were allowed to check in. Unbelievable.

Pros: 1.LOCATION: In heart of the historic district -- within walking distance of City Market and waterfront/ship terminal; bus stop for free city-loop trolley right out front. 2. PRICE: Very econmical compared to other hotels in area. 3. STAFF: Very hospitable and accommodating, especially in letting up leave our luggage after check-out time (and before cruise time) and again before check-in time (and after cruise). 4. And the icing on the cake: Toast, the adjacent restaurant on Market Street. We had all four of our breakfasts there -- and never repeated our selection and still left without getting to try other enticing choices. Food and service was excellent.
Cons: As a "motor inn", each room opened onto the parking lot, so the "disruptive" noise of people arriving/departing was to be expected. Note: We were not traveling by car, but for those who were, this would have been a major convenience, especially compared to other hotels in the area which didn't appear to have such convenient parking.
