Santa Fe, the oldest capital city in the United States and one of its highest in elevation (Santa Fe sits at a whopping 7,199 feet), epitomizes New Mexico’s tagline: the Land of Enchantment. This historic city, known for its unique blend of cultures, features low-slung, adobe-dressed buildings that seamlessly blend with the natural landscape – an impressive mountain backdrop. My family has lived in Santa Fe on and off for more than 30 years, and its distinct charm, both rustic and refined, makes it one of my favorite cities to spend time in. The city’s hotels reflect its unique character, eschewing cookie-cutter designs for accommodations that blend old and new, large and small. Each hotel on this list embodies an undeniable Southwestern charm. From luxurious resorts to quaint inns, the best hotels in Santa Fe provide a perfect mix of comfort and style, ensuring that every stay is memorable.

This luxurious boutique property is one of the best hotels in Santa Fe, known for its stunning decor and attention to detail. Set in the Barrio de Analco, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, the Inn of the Five Graces has a maximalist East-meets-West decor, with suites housing hand-crafted furnishings, vibrant textiles, and intricate mosaics that reflect the cultural tapestry of the Silk Road. The inn's lush courtyard is where you’ll enjoy breakfast, while Pink Adobe, a Santa Fe favorite since 1944, serves a funky, flavorful blend of Cajun and New Mexican cuisine. Meanwhile, the beautifully restored Dragon Room Bar was supposedly once a haunt of Santa Fe’s beloved Georgia O’Keeffe. I’m particularly partial to the Inn’s compact five-room spa, where a Himalayan saltstone massage will refresh even the most tightly wound guests.

This elegant hotel is set in the heart of Santa Fe’s downtown,a great option for those looking to be within walking distance of the city’s sights, including the historic Plaza and numerous art galleries. Named after the ancient Anasazi people, Rosewood’s decor also showcases artwork from top Native American artists. The 58 rooms are beautifully designed, filled with handmade furniture and Native American textiles, as well as cozy kiva fireplaces, which I recommend curling up in front of on a chilly Santa Fe evening. The on-site Anasazi Restaurant serves up contemporary American cuisine with Southwestern influences, using locally sourced ingredients like elk and duck breast. As one of the best hotels in Santa Fe, you won’t want for amenities during your stay here either, thanks to a well-equipped fitness center and an inviting library.

As the only Native American-owned hotel in downtown, this is one of the best hotels in Santa Fe for those looking to experience authentic Pueblo-style accommodations. Owned by the Picuris Pueblo, the hotel is deeply rooted in Native American culture and its guestrooms and suites feature traditional Pueblo-inspired elements, like handmade natural pine furniture and local artwork. The Hacienda, a private retreat within the hotel, offers upgraded amenities – think butler service and exclusive access to a private lounge. The hotel's spa, which emphasizes holistic wellness, provides a range of treatments using indigenous ingredients and techniques. Meanwhile, the on-site restaurant, Amaya, serves straightforward New Mexican cuisine, like stuffed poblano peppers and punchy green chile chicken enchiladas. The hotel is among the most affordable top properties in the city, making it one of the best hotels in Santa Fe for travelers on a budget.

Santa Fe’s Eldorado Hotel & Spa is a sophisticated property with spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and an award-winning spa, located just a six-minute walk from the historic Santa Fe Plaza. As you’ve probably guessed, pueblo revival decor is the trend here, accented with hand-crafted Native American furniture and art. The hotel is home to Agave Restaurant & Lounge, an acclaimed restaurant serving Southwestern food that’s known for being family-friendly and approachable – but don’t worry, dishes still have plenty of New Mexican flair. A rooftop pool is a rarity in the city and Eldorado’s is excellent, earning the property its rightful spot on any list of the best hotels in Santa Fe. Eldorado is also home to a full-service spa, Nidah, with a menu of Ayurvedic-inspired treatments. Couples and families alike will find Eldorado to be comfortable and upscale without feeling stuffy.
