This hotel exceeded all expectations. It is an older building and they have done an outstanding job keeping the character while providing modern amenities. The location is great, we arrived and departed town via the Amtrak station, which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Its location near shopping, dining, and nightlife is perfect. And to top it off, I think the highlight is the staff. The people running this place obviously have instilled a high level of courtesy, customer service, and friendliness in the staff. You can't go wrong.
location Room smelled like smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. We called the front desk and were offered another room however.
The breakfast and nice size rooms. I like the parking valet system too. The wifi does not work, so it's frustrating.
Historic hotel. Great location! Friendly staff A bit noise at night from the surrounding bars but not too bad. Rooms are a bit small Only one slow antique elevator.
The bed was so comfy and I like noon check out:) The room was a little small
Location right on State Street where all of the great shops and restaurants are was great. Valet guys were pretty nice. Room smelled slightly smoky even though it was a non smoking room. Our room was close to the ancient elevator from 1926 and it sounded like our hotel room was in a subway station which was a bummer when we wanted to sleep in. A bunch of sketchy characters hang out right outside the front door of the hotel on State Street at night. Wasn't aware that parking was $10 until we arrived at the hotel.
Great location, it is right at the very central of downtown area. Close to all the good eating locations. the room is clean. Staff is very friendly. THE ELEVATOR!!!! OMG!!!!
WE had a wedding in Montecito and came down from San Franisco. This is right next to State Street and all of the great shops- it was a bit expensive for the type of room, but staff is courteous and room was clean- just what we needed. Would stay again. Also they have a good neighbor policy to snure you have a quiet experience!
We asked for a quiet room and were happy with it. The staff was very\nknowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was fine--and the woman who\nprepared it baked homemade cookies for everyone!\n\nIt's an old historic building with some flaws, but the furnishings are lovely.
In planning girls weekend in Santa Barbara, I was trying to find a hotel that was on the more inexpensive side, centrally located to all the action on State Street, yet comfortable for four women with all our bags. This place was perfect! The price was totally reasonable and the room was clean and spaceous. We had an amazing weekend and will definitely stay here again next time we visit. :)
I wanted a romantic place to enjoy our 3rd wedding anniversary, and this was PERFECT! The hotel is obviously historic. I have stayed at newer hotels and the walls were paper thin. This old gem is solid brick and that adds to its charm. The parking lot is a little small, but they offer complimentary valet servide so it was never an issue (nice touch!). Also, I could tell that they spend a lot of money on their complimentary breakfast. Most hotels offer a continental breakfast, but here they add hard boiled eggs, omlets and yogurt along with fresh fruit for those who want to stay away from the carbs.\n\nMy wife and I felt appreciated and pampered by the front desk staff. Even the housekeeping staff was friendly and courteous. If I must spend a little more to stay in Santa Barbara, this hotel is the one that I would want next time!
The hotel is located in a great location for tourism in Santa Barbara. Beautiful area and great weather. Room was decently furnished and comfortable bedding. Just don't leave anything in the room of value! I'm not talking just jewelry or laptops but expensive toiletries and skin care products. My wife accompanied me on this trip and on two different occasions her skin care products were pilfered and stolen. Not just a portion of the product but every drop removed from the container and empty bottle left behind. Of course their hotel policy states they accept no responsibility for loss if item not secured in safe deposit box at front desk. But come on make up and lotion in the SAFE! ?? Stay at ypour own risk!!
My family of four shared a 2-bedroom room, with a roll-away bed. It was a reasonably economical stay. The hotel is nice and clean. Very good free breakfast. Best of all, is the location. State Street is a half-block walk away. Up and down there is a huge variety of restaurants and shops. In warm weather, sidewalk cafe seating is common. It's also a short 6-block walk to the beach. For most activities, we left the car parked and walked. Not common in Southern California. The roll-away is best suited to young kids. My teenagers could feel the springsbut it cut down on the fights over who was hogging the covers.
This hotel was in a great location, but it is very old. My room was on the first floor and the room was very small. But, it is within walking distance of downtown so if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room, it's a good spot.
Went to a family wedding in Santa Barbara. Three couples stayed here. Two couples had rooms in front. One in back. The ones in back had an ok nights sleep. Didn't hear too much noise. But us in front - well let me start with someone on a skateboard outside on the sidewalk at 3 a.m.,(we were on the second floor), people walking in the hallway at 4 a.m. and hearing their entire conversation. . Toilets flushing at all hours. Garbage being picked up at 5 a.m. A train whistle early in the a.m. The topper being at 8 a.m. when we all checked out the 'Continental Breakfast' - very poor. I went to the front desk and asked the clerk if there were any vineyards he could reccomend and he responded 'I don't drink'. What does that have to do with anything! I didn't ask him to go for a drink with me! Again I asked him 'Are there any wineries or vineyards in the area we could visit before going back to LA - again he responded 'I don't drink'. Let me tell you that was the topper for that...
The room fit the Spanish feel of the town, comfortable and roomy. I had a nice stay.
The hotel is conveniently located at the end of State St with an easy walk to most shops and restaurants. There is ample parking for guests and the front desk employees were extremely helpful. Breakfast was mediocre but one can't complain when it is complimentary. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Although the walls were a little thin. For the price and location I would without a doubt, recommend to fellow travelers.
Just 1/2 block from State street the downtown restaurant district starts right next door. Small clean rooms, good parking and a friendly staff. Comfortable pillow top beds.In the end it's all about the location. Keith
Everything was great, except the upstairs neighbors! It sounded like there was a gymnastics tournement going on above us, at 6 AM no less! That would be my only complaint, maybe they need to work on soundproofing between floors.
Rooms are not huge but comfortable, new and clean. Staff was very helpful and polite. The proximity to everything--wine tasting, breweries, restaurants, the beach and all the shops on State St could not be better. Also close to the train station. no complaints at all.
We loved the boutique feel of the wayfarer. The quirky designed reception area, mermaid wallpaper in the bedrooms and state of the art kitchen facilities. Location is perfect to explore Santa Barbara. Staff were super helpful. Great value for money.
*The decor was awesome *The room was immaculate *The staff was super friendly *Free coffee / water / kitchen access *Free breakfast *Very funky space with a big library, board games, and fun activities planned (there was a bar crawl going on the night I got there) *THE POOL! *Super close to the train - 1.5 blocks walking *Great use of space in the room, including cabinets built into the headboard The room, though immaculate, was TINY. I live in NYC, and this was small even by NYC standards. The bathroom floor doubled as the shower floor, which actually worked out rather nicely, but it was an odd adjustment. The space was great for one person, but I'm glad there weren't two of us staying there.
