Pros: I stayed at Villa Soro for 4 nights. The main building is elegant with a very warm atmosphere. I had a corner room on the first floor of the newer building which had it owns semi-private outdoor space. Both were nice. The bedroom and bathroom were of good size and quite utilitarian. The newer house has no street noise, though the area is sufficiently quiet that I would be surprised if the original house is affected by traffic noise. The staff is very polite and helpful.
I chose to stay at the Villa as I thought I might find interesting people with whom to talk. Breakfast seemed like an obvious time but the bar is actually pretty lively at night. My wish was fulfilled. Members of The Morgan Motor Club were there with their glorious convertibles (British racing green, of course) and there were 2 architects from Stockholm on their way to Bilbao.
Cons: My bathroom was not adequately cleaned. I suppose this was due to the maid believing that Americans only take showers. However, there were enough clues that I take baths. The tub wasn't cleaned (or not to my standards) and neither q-tips nor hand soap were replaced in a timely matter..
I found there was too much noise transmitted from the room or rooms above which may have been just the luck of the draw in whose overhead.
Note that this really is a residential area and you will have a good 30 minute walk to the bus station or even most restaurants.

Absolutely loved it. It isn't very close to Old Town, but a 7 min walk to the beach, and ideal if you don't want to be in the middle of the mess (Old town was crazy busy when we were there, end of August 2014). Still only a 20 min walk to old town; and with bars around it too. This hotel deserved at least one more star... honestly it was better than the 4 star we got in Paris.
Pros: Room was big and nice. Free water bottles available in the hallway, and breakfast for 1 Euro. This hotel deserved at least one more star.
Cons: Room was very close to busy street, we got woken up by some drunken youth at 6am in the streets.

Pros: The rooms are gorgeous and plenty big for European style hotels. The staff was very helpful and as a bonus they spoke many languages.
Cons: I requested a king size bed when I first booked and got a room with two beds pushed together with individual sheeting (not conducive for snuggling). My shower door was only a half door so there was an ocean in the bathroom after we were finished. The last night we tried to sleep earlier so we could leave early the next day but it seemed there was a comedy club right above us until around 2 AM.

Pros: We felt like we were walking into a spa! The lobby is very small and intimate, so we were a bit concerned about going to our room, but then we opened the door to a very spacious room with 2 balconies overlooking the Parte Vieja streets. We were thrilled!
Cons: The elevator to the building was not in service; however, the hotel shares it with others in the building, so it wasn't their fault. Luckily it's on the second floor so we didn't have to carry our bags too far up the stairs!

Stayed here because there was nothing in the center of town or by the beach. It's right across the street from the soccer stadium. 10 min bus ride into town. Hotel Breakfast not worth it. Eat at the bar next door.
Pros: Good for the price.
Cons: Far from the beach

Pros: The most amiable owner and staff! Really friendly and welcoming, enthusiastic about their city and with mountains of information to share. They made our stay in this amazing city double as good as it would be. Also, the room and bathroom were probably the cleanest ones we've ever seen. Excellent price for this value. Great location, too. Close to everything but far from the noise, as the owner said.
Cons: The fact that all their rooms are strictly non-smoking. Rather a plus for non smokers.
Pros: The room was super clean with trendy decor, very comfy beds, nicely heated, and very quiet (a great night sleep). The man on duty when we arrived was really welcoming and helpful with places to eat and sightsee. Coffee machine in foyer for use anytime which we found rare in Europe. Great value accommodation.

Pros: Location, location and location! Clean and spacious room, fresh linen and cordial host made our stay wanting us to return and we will.
Pros: The rooms were exteremly spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a coffee machine in the hall. Hotel was quiet as not very large.
Cons: The staff member was not often at the hotel. When arrived at 3PM she did not arrive until 4 and again upon check out at 9.30AM we had to wait for her. However she was very helpful and friendly when there.
