Pros: Just perfect place to stay in Rethymno. Our apartment had one bedroom, big guest room with kitchen and three balconies. It was really big and nice decorated. The location was close to the beach and close enough to the city center. The breakfasts were diverse and tasty. There also was friendly staff.

Cons: There is nothing that we did not really like, but the breakfast variety could be improved. It is good in fact but after a week of stay one would expect some changes of what is served. Otherwise, the quality and assortment are quite good.

Cons: The lack of parking space was the biggest issue. The hotel was selected mainly for the fact that they had their own parking lot, only to find out upon reaching that it was full and had to look for parking on the nearby streets which took over 30min. This was very frustrating.

Pros: We stayed at Melrose Hotel as family. We got a great suite with balcony ideally suited for us ... perfect size, large bathroom! The rooms are all new, well kept and always cleaned. The hotel was ideally located for us: one minute to the beach (perfect for the kids), ten minutes to the old city centre and not noisy. We always found a parking lot close by. Breakfast was great ... a lot of choices, delicious food, just a perfect start into the day. But most important to mention the outstanding friendliness of the people at Melrose Hotel. Always helpful, a nice chat whenever you wanted. Especially our young daughter made friend with everyone and she won't forget the birthday surprise cake with the candles not able to blow out ;-) We will definitely come back!

And even when we had an excursion which started earlier than the breakfast time the lady on the reception got some breakfast packed for us, we have never experienced such care in any other place. The stuff and the owner of the hotel were very friendly and gave us some really nice advice about places to visit and restaurants... If we go back to Crete- then definitely only to this place!

The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and were quick to provide a map as well as highlighting on it their recommendations for restaurants. The hotel has loads of character due to its history but has been tastefully modernised. Our room was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were good with lots of choice. We would recommend this hotel to our friends, which is something we don't often do!

The breakfast each morning was great, located on lovely terrace looking out to the beach. The pool was well maintained with comfortable sunbeds, as was the beach area in front of the hotel. lots of restaurants and bars in close proximity along the beachfront and a nice 15min stroll into the beautiful town. This is a lovely hotel and location, we hope to return again in the near future.

Cons: Charges for coffee capsules in room, charges for using computer for check in on flights. Given room below standard booked and having to move after protesting. New room had roof leak in bathroom and workmen in over 2 days. Did not offer move and had to put up with it. Restricted tour options and days. Only one night of entertainment all week. No conceige and relied on knowledge of reception staff. No atmosphere as bar area usually empty. Expected so much more from 5* hotel especially as 5* prices.

Cons: Not much! The hotel doesn't have parking and the streets nearby are very busy with cars but we always managed to find a space. The step into the hot tub area could be better marked as it is difficult to see when the bubbles are switched on. An option for house wine would be good. I am being very picky here though, as it was great!

Cons: The spa is understaffed with just one person in high season and it cannot accommodate two guests at the same time for massage, such as a couple. Also, massage appointments are not possible after 17:00 and are fully booked during the day due to understaffing, so if you have a short of 2-3 days, you have to try hard to sync your schedule and the spa’s schedule to make it work. The shampoo and body cream offered in the room is cheap Chinese stuff irritating the skin, while you would expect better Quality products. such as Greek brand with essential oils for the price of the room (other similar spa hotels in Greece offer Korres or Apivita quality toiletries).

Supermarket on the same street (300 m). Many restaurants and tavernas in the old town (we recommend Taverna Stavros – very good food and prices). A lot of stores and shops in the old town, with souvenirs, local and traditional products. Good value for money. We’ll come back in Rethymnon and definitely stay here again.

Cons: Very small, tight bathroom. Old style rubinetterie. In the first two nights, cold water stopped suddenly during the night because they were replacing the water in the courtyard pool. Surcharge to use the safe box. You get only one access card for the room (which is also for the electric power) and you have to leave it at the reception when leaving. You can ask to leave it in the electric power slot when going out around (in order to charge your devices) but somebody from the reception has to come with you to open the door for you (they were kind to do so).

Cons: Keeping the old elevator design.It is a two door system. But if you like a touch of “boutiqueness” it is fine & does the job. Only two parking spots are reserved for all the guests of the hotel considering Crete as a destination that needs a rental car. In case of no parking, which happened four times during our week stay, Which is a pain if you don’t find a side parking near the hotel or parking in the free parking side of the port + 7 mins walk.

Every morning a garbage truck arrives at around 5/6 am and makes a lot of noise (beeping loudly, bins loaded, etc.). One of our rooms had a window right in front of an electricity generator pole, which keeps making a buzzing noise. Small room is either is too cold or too hot. Swimming pool very small and is in the shade most of the day.

Cons: I think that the ratio of the quality and the price could be better; by that I mean that I found the room overpriced. I have stayed in several hotels in Rethymno and the only excuse I can think for the price charged of is the high touristy season...

Cons: The bathroom in the room is a bit old and uncomfortable. The toilet paper is near to the power hose of the WC tank and from the condensation it get wet. Also the shower curtain which is not comfortable. They have no parking lots so if you rent a car you have to parked on the street. The street is full almost of the time so if you do not fiind a parking space you have to go to the Port to park it.(it s close but you have to pay around 10 Euro for 12 hours)

Cons: The hotel needs some investments if it wants to be considered as a 4 stars hotel. The room furniture and specially bathroom are a bit old. We had problems the first evening because the hot water was not working and we had a cold shower. They solved the problem in a couple of hours. The breakfast could be better, not natural juice, soluble instead of natural cofee, and limited choices.

Although meanwhile renovated, the room extremely lacks of showing harmony & character. The whole property does not make one feel welcome. Everything resembles a 3*Hotel, not a 4* one. Cons: Busy and very noisy traffic outside. If you want to keep open your window you must suffer the volume. Rooms need an upgrade. Style a little bit old fashioned and photos are misleading. Also, a hotel don't have a private parking area. It is good for old people or for those who are traveling without a car and just stays in the hotel all the time. But if you want to get know more about Crete and travel with a car it is a big problem to find a place around.

They need to check the Galaxy Heraklion - that's what a 5 * hotel is supposed to be- No excuses about Greece being different - the hotel is a fraud!

Cons: Didn't like that the front rows of sunbeds were at an additional cost. I pay for the hotel stay, just to have access to the beach and the sea. Most of the guests now lay on the free beds, and peopel lived (cheaper ???) elsewhere hired beds in front. Some were families of 6 people, they shared 2 beds - but had many things around. It is just fine to lie in the back row of the beach too :-) , I still think the hotel guests should get the best deals/sunbeds.

Cons: We had an unpleasant experience regarding the service of the breakfast , that was up to 09:00 am , instead of 09:30 ( although 09:30 is also very early for the W/E ) as it was written in the elevator . They advised us that thay had rescheduled the timing , due to an early morning program of a german group . We asked if we can have the breakfast in our room and their reply was that relative service was not available for low season period . It is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel , either to depend the time of the service on a group program or to offer lower services without giving clear notice of the status.

The owner of the hotel (Mr. Vasillis) is really carefull in keeping well the hotel, in caring of all the details, in satisfying the customers. He was very polite in offering to change the mattress of my room from two single ones in a double one. Both rooms were wide and very comfortable, they appeared in the internal side with a big terrace (both were quiet and far from the noise of the road). Breakfast has wide choices. In the hotel's price the beach towels were included - they could be changed frequently. Evelina - responsible for the hotel administration, for the hall (restaurant) and the customers' satisfaction - has been so helpful, polite, available in supporting and always smiling. The restaurant of the hotel (Bistrot "Salt & Pepper") offers delicious dishes, with fresh fish also, well cooked - a very good smell always came from the kitchen ! I recommend to eat there, as I recommend to chose this hotel !

Cons: - Parking is not available. Even though advertised as parking on site, it is practically an option , that everyone has, to park somewhere around in the city. It is free, but brings extra hussle, especially since the area is quite busy. If I knew that beforehands I wouldn't have even booked the hotel

It’s a big nice hotel, with extra modern and cozy rooms, with air conditioning, fridge, balcony and separate shower. Lavish breakfast with all you may want (sweet and salty food), nice staff. I’d come back definitely.

Pros: we got a big family room on the quiet side (not on the street side). recently renovated. The swimming pool on the roof top must be enjoyable in summer time (we could not use it), very well located to visit Rethymo. The staff was friendly.
Cons: the breakfast buffet wasn't great at all, disgusting fruit juice, rotten fruits, not a lot of choice. Very difficult to park for free around the hotel (or to park at all)

Pros: Well located hotel for exploring Rethimnon. Very helpful Reception in terms of giving out useful information about the city and surrounding areas. The hotel is close to the bus station- walk via Koumoundourou. Also close to two good restaurants, Mesostrati and Kokkinos.

Pros: A fantastic, fully renovated room on the 4th floor. Comfortable venue and breakfast area on ground floor. Varied breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is situated very close to the old town and near the municipal gardens and a bus/taxi stop. Almost everything we needed was within walking distance. All in all our stay at Jo An Palace was a memorable experience!
Cons: The only aspect which we found slightly uncomfortable was the fact that the shower booth and the WC were two separate areas (in the refurbished rooms on 4th floor) so using the bathrobe was mandatory while moving from the first area to the second one. Hooks outside the shower booth would be useful, too.
