Loation, Location, Location. Budget. Hotel Personel very friendly and professional. Very clean. BREAKFAST:Sometimes missing Cheese, Ham, Butter, Juices... To no fault of staff. Will recommend hotel with improvement on the above.
The location of the hotel is in the very center of the city, on the seaside. Big rooms with kitchenette. This type of hotel wouldn't quite be my choice for a holiday residence, but for the one night that we spent there it was ok.
Some of the staff were extremely nice and helpful......but only some! Having specified a non-smoking room with big bed we were ushered to a stinky smoking room with two small single beds overlooking a demolition site. We were told that guests who booked through online agencies were always given these rooms. The guy did not help with the luggage even when we changed rooms after a long discussion on the matter!
spacious clean and quite even though it is right in the promenade with traffic. Good view from the balkony facing the sea. Very good value easy for public transports as we were on a walking holiday. The hobb in the apartment kitchen was not working when we arrived. However next day was promptly fixed.
Helpful friendly staff. Excellent location, close to everything. Was lucky enough to get top floor front room with huge balcony overlooking 'the Strip'. Roomy, yet charming. Bed was hard, as were pillows, but spare pillows in closet were soft. Could have put an iron in the room. But minor considering the pluses.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location very central. Most days the room was cleaned very well and the beds made up properly, but on a few days it was not cleaned as well - possibly different people cleaning the rooms on different days.
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Had a small balcony and a nice living room area. The location was killer. Right in the heart of Ponta Delgada and within walking distance of several very nice restaurants. Right across from the harbor/port and 2 min from any of the whale watching operators. Market and shopping mall right next door. The hotel staff, particularly Enrique, were extremely helpful in arranging taxi services and restaurant recommendations. Enrique went out of his way to help us and make sure we had a great stay in the Azores. His knowledge of the local culture and food was incomparable. Could use a slightly larger balcony
helpful staff, clean room, good central location, at a reasonable price
Fantastic location of the hotel! The main pier with restaurants and bars was right across the road! The centre of town - just 2 blocks away. Breakfast had a good selection of breads, fruits and hot foods. Our 2 bed room had a separate living room / kitchenette.
Huge room and very comfortable. Not really did not like but i think it can be improved, the choices for breakfast.
Location was downtown Single room views are terrible. The view is of a lot with building ruins not very appealing
The staff was very efficient and pleasant.
I liked that the hotel was located in the city The beds were very uncomfortable.
good selection of food on the breakfast buffet. The reception desk staff are also very helpful in giving info about the place. The room we got was very small and had a small window with just a street view.
Free of charge Bicycle service.
This hotel is in a very good location in Ponta Delgada and very comfortable for a city stay.
The location is very good, looking at the atlantic sea, very modern
Excellent location, very nice buffet breakfast, cleanliness of the entrie hotel, and the spa service. I was in need of a massage in which the spa service took me in quickly, I was very grateful. Beds were very hard.
THIS HOTEL IS MALL AND HAS AN INTIMATE ATMOSPHERE AND HAS A HELPFUL AND ATTENTIVE ENGLISH SPEAKING STAFF. IT HAS A GOOD CENTRAL PONTA DELGADA LOCATION PROVIDING EASY WALKING ACCESS TO CITY LOCATIONS . THE HOTEL IS SMALL AND COMFORTABLE AND HAS A WHOLESOME BREAKFAST BUFFET SELECTION THIS HOTEL IS GEOGRAPHICALLY WELL PLACED IN THE OLD PART OF TOWN IN A NARROW SIDE STREET AND PROVIDES AN OVERALL VERY PLEASANT STAY AND REPRESENTS GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. INITIALLY WE WERE ASSIGNED TO AN INSIDE COURTYARD ROOM OVERLOOKING THE ELEVATOR SHAFT. THIS ROOM WAS POOR AND IN A STATE OF RELATIVE DISREPAIR WITH DAMP PEELING WALLS AND A BROKEN LAMP. UPON REQUEST WE WERE THEN RELOCATED TO AN OUTSIDE ROOM AT THE REAR OF THE HOTEL THAT PROVIDED AN INTERESTING CITY ROOF TOP VIEW AND WAS AWAY FROM TRAFFIC. THIS ROOM WAS IN A BETTER STATE OF REPAIR AND PROVED TO BE COSY AND PERFECTLY ADEQUATE. HOTEL WI FI INTERNET COVERAGE WAS AVAILABLE BUT OFTEN INTERMITTENT AND WITH LIMITED SIGNAL STRENGTH IN ROOMS BEYOND THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. HOT FOOD CONSISTING OF EGGS AND BACON AT THE BREAKFAST BUFFET WAS NOT HEATED AND WAS THEREFORE COLD SHORTLY AFTER THE 0730 BREAKFAST START..
The vip is a bit out of the way, but a guest in good shape can make the trek to downtown Funchal fairly easily. The pool is beautiful, the views are great, and the breakfast includes a decent quality and selection. The bar serves great drinks including a locally themed cocktail made from banana liquor and often has live entertainment. Most of the service people are pretty helpful. Spa charge was a nuisance for the indoor pool/jacuzzi. Wifi and computers in the lobby were unreliable.
one bedroom plus one living room made a good plan to stay.Comfortable and quiet place also. unfortunately I couldn't use the computer downstairs.(no connection for e-mail?).
Friendly staff, very clean, good rooms. A swimming pool is missing and the location would be better if it was closer to downtown.
Good hotel at an excellent price however too far from city to walk. They allowed us to book in early which was an appreciated bonus after an all night flight. The hotel suited us because of ease of parking a hire car at the hotel. However the cost is 5 Euros a day which for a couple of days makes life easy. They should consider guests parking free. Most people parked in the street at the back of the hotel. However that means hauling luggage a further distance.
Very modern and beautiful hotel. Rooms were clean well laid out and had views of the ocean. It was just a little far from the center
It was very easy to check in and out and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was very good value
The staff was very friendly
The room was always clean and the cleaning staff were very pleasant and always friendly. The hotel itself was very nice also. The only thing is the parking, I dint feel that guest should have to pay for hotel parking it should be included.
They tried to overcharge us for the breakfast and were extremely unfriendly when I asked for the correction.
Clean rooms Had to pay for parking, use of swimming pool towels, and the restaurant was not open during advertised hours. The reception staff knew very little about the surrounding area and the common tourist sites. When most businesses were closed on Sunday, the hotel made no concessions for this i.e., keeping the restaurants open longer or restaurants not open at all.
Excellent staff, good location if you have a car, that you can park on the street at the back of the hotel, that has an entrance to the hotel, close to the airport, quite, excellent buffet breakfast. Did not use, but the swiming pool at the top is actually a small tank
The total area of the room
Good basic hotel, clean and comfortable for reasonable cost. Nice staff. Liked the fact that breakfast cntinued to be served til 10am so no need to get up too early. Also check out as late as 12 noon was good, and the staff were happy to look after our stuff while we wandered into town. Decor a bit dark and dingey. No outdoor relaxing area such as garden or terace. No WIFI in rooms.
The size of the room and the balcony over the 'central courtyard' The 'central courtyard' was in fact open at both ends to traffic so was pretty noisy quite early in the morning.
The stuff is friendly, rooms clean. Limited choice of food at breakfast
The location was perfect for a 'base' to visit the island and all of the amenities available. The staff were very sullen and never greeted the guests and smiling seemed to be a major effort even when spoken in Portugese to them.
Good sized room with sitting area, small verandah, large bed, comfortable pillow. Everything was clean and in good working order. Good breakfast. Excellent value for money.
Really comfortable, minutes away from the centre and I could sleep there during the day, having just got off a sailing ship
We were pleased that the discount offered via the site was around 50% of rack rate, as we certainly would not have paid anywhere close to full price for the hotel. It is walking distance to the city's main shopping mall, which is useful for short stays and also for those who wish to remain out of the tourist downtown. The hotel decor was outdated and needed revamping. It is located in a one way street which means that for early morning airport departure, one is forced to travel into town in very heavy traffic. Allow an extra few minutes. No good restaurant options within close walking distance.
friedly staff easy access to town
Relaxing atmosphere, nice view onto garden. Friendly, professional staff.
The room I stayed in was huge and luxurious; they also gave me some water and biscuits when my room was ready as I had to wait, even though it was my fault for arriving a bit early rather than them being late in getting the room ready. Breakfast was good with wide choice of food. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
We enjoyed the overall feel of the Boutique Style Hotel with spiral staircases, libraries and comfortable sitting areas on each floor. The breakfast was very good and location was within walking distance to shops, restaurants and city center. My only complaint was that the close proximity to the downtown area made it difficult to sleep with the outside noise.
nice big room, beautfiul hotel and grounds
The front desk staff were extremely helpful in navigating the island. As other reviewers have mentioned there was a funny smell from the washroom. I found the location difficult to find with a car (we rented from the airport). I also think that many other places on the island are more worthy of mention and patronage then Ponta Delgada. I think one night is enough in the city. Spend the rest staying in the many picturesque places on the island.
The hotel staff we wonderful and very accomidating to our needs. We travelled with 2 children and they made the experiece so stress free for us.
It's location was supurb! Close to the marina/pools, shopping, dining, other cultural and historical attractions.
Good Location , well furbished friendly staff. Can be a little noisy because of location.
The location was very convenient, right in the center of Ponta Delgada, about 4 blocks from the city gates and main town square. Also, there was a nice garden in front of the hotel. The staff was very helpful in booking a tour of Furnas as well. Nothing I can think of.
The location is excellent. The breakfast is very good. The service is good. Everybody is eager to please. The room was large and pleasant. The free Internet was helpful. I can't think of any.
Fabulous breakfast buffet; spacious room; lovely view of garden No.
The location was perfect for a city tourist and the view from the room was spectacular they provide a water heater for coffee but no coffee or tea; the bed was poor quality; their credit card machines were broken
The view from our room was spectacular room decor was dated, bar staff was not very social and not always there to serve
Food quality is based around quantity rather than quality. When we arrived at 0030 in the morning (flight from uk arrives 23.45 at airport) we were told we had no room and were being changed to another hotel for one night - all went well (the other hortel was good) but it meant another taxi ride and bed at 0300 rather than 0100 after a longggg day - I am told that this is not an unusual occurence for the Lincs Azores
-Very nice rooms. -Good view over the ocean. -Only at 5/10 minutes of the city center. -Nice staff and helpful. -Some of the hotel services don't work during the low season.
We stayed at this hotel 6 years ago when it was a Holiday Inn and were pleased to see that there is no obvious deterioration since then; the hotel has obviously been very well maintained. The desk staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful and friendly.
Hotel is close to the city centre. We were offered a room with sea view, as requested. Hotel wasn't crowded. Staff was competent and discreet. Breakfast could have been better. Butter should be chilled but wasn't so if you arrived close to the end of the breakfast period it was unedible.
Polite and helpful staff; clean rooms; convenient parking. Nothing
The staff were very nice and the hotel has a good location. We had to ask to have our soap/shampoo refilled. The pool area is a bit shabby.
Very helpful staff that could help much with knowledges of interesting places in the iceland Not very comfortable internet room
The Lince is a good hotel all around.Good location, service, staffand very good food,I would go back anytime ( I will stay there again next time I go to St Miguel).
The room was OK, nice bath room, new furniture, large underground private parking garage (keeps the car cool!), 20 - 30 minutes' walk to the city center, bath room very clean, location OK Please clean up the stairs outside and remove the dust under the bed. Advice to the staff: smile please!!! A nice "hello" is enough! The swimming pool area / wellness is too small and not attractive. The hotel feels more like a "business hotel"
Friendly and helpful staff. Good TV in the lounge area. Relaxed atmosphere. My room was cool and quiet. The shower wored well.
We liked the restaurant and the relaxed atmosphere. The hotel was clean and was very organized.
walking distance to many places
The "Alcides" is a simple hotel run by very kind and generous people. It is conveniently located in the VERY center of the city. Rooms are modestly furnished, but clean and comfortable. Breakfasts served in the restaurant downstairs offer many choices (even fresh OJ!) Did I mentioned kind, generous, helpful service?
perfect price/quality, we were very happy with our choice. Although the hotel and rooms are old, they are perfectly maintained: everything works as it should. All the rooms have airco, and there is free internet service in the lounge. It's like staying at grandma's house, with all the comforts of a modern hotel.
Really , i like it very much it wasn´t my first time there that´s why i choose it again , i was happy with all people they are nice and friendly .
Everything was good: the rooms, staff, restaurant, location. The price also was very good.
The position and the quiet; the kindness of the staff
We liked the size and character of the hotel. The location was excellent for visiting the town.
Nice experience. Great location, quiet and decent room. Very helpful people.
we liked the location, helpfulness of reception, evening buffet meals, gardens and location of our rooms. we were dissapointed with the breakfast and how hard the beds were
I liked everything about the hotel. The staff were great.Always with a smile on their faces and very helpful. The comfort of it all,the gardens, the pools...it was all just delightful! Will stay there again.
Really nice rooms, fine service, nice indoor and outdoor facilities
Quiet, peaceful hotel with good facilities. On occasions the bar staff were a little bit unfriendly and rude.
swimming pool and fitness/sauna facilities Some noise due to airport 3 km's away. No free wifi facilities... 9 francs an hour!
Hotel not in center of town. If you have walking problems this may not be for you. No one tolde us about walking through internal corridors to get to dining area- evident with others as well skipping through rain drops in courtyard. No nearby small snackbars or shops for light breakfasts. Hotel breakfast really overpriced. This hotel debits your account when you checkin! Not when checking out.
spacious rooms and bathrooms; clineliness in the room and hotel; good hotel staff the breakfast was unchanged for the whole period (10 days)
Azoras Are beautiful price too high for a 4 star with old facilities and what a cold , icely property!! Disgusted by reception staff . They charged us twice for a bathrobe. Finally this is not a 4 star maybe an old three star for families or seniors over 80!
Quick and good service. No problems in long waiting. Parking, Waterpool and gym available and in good condition.
Very friendly and helpfull staff
Very clean. Nice rooms. Nice view. Quiet clientel (no banging doors, shouting etc) . Good central location. Very helpful staff.
I found the staff very friendly and helpful. As this was my first time to Portugal I was nervous about the language. Staff where very fluent in English which was helpful to me. Food was very good. Had to go to the bar for ice. There should be an ice bucket in each room and a ice machine on each floor.
The hotel staff, sound insulation of the rooms is very poor, breakfast is not worthy of a 3-star hotel.
Buffet's were good
Very short stay. Normal hotel.
Smart and clean hotel with good food/drink availability plus a nice pool area. Modern card locks on doors and handy vending machines on floors plus free internet access.
the staff we had contact with tried to please the maids looking after the rooms did a good job it was easy to see why it was a 3 star and not a 5 star just small little things like the plug in the sink didnt work properly the furnichure was chiped the remote for the telly was cracked and hard to use breakfast tables did not have clean table cloths on each day orange juice was not fresh certain types of bread were in short supply room service was only available 11am to 11pm
The location... close to shopping, restaurants, entertainment etc. It's a very comfortable and clean hotel. Staff are very friendly. The buffet breakfast was great.
poor breakfast buffet same every day
Central location, helpful staff, nice breakfast buffet not applicable - everything was satisfactory
location, staff no shampoo in baths
proximity to the center and price. Helpful staff. The hotel was tired appearance. and the rooms were very small.
The employees are friendly and professional. We've stayed at pricier hotels but if you really want a feel for the island and the people who live there you should stay at a hotel like this. The breakfast in the morning consists or juice, coffee, rolls (lots of rolls), cheese, meat and yogurt. If you want decaf coffee, you'd better learn how to ask for it in Portuguese or you may end up with a cup the size of an eyewash cup with expresso. Easy access on a oneway road and walking distance to Ponta Delgada's downtown. It gets noisy from about 11PM-2AM. There is a bakery next door that attracts college kids and people leaving the many bars in town. If you get a room on the back side of the hotel, the noise probably won't bother you.
The staff was very kindly and happy. The room was also good. Air-condition would be nice.
Our room was on the third floor, so our balcony had a great view over the building across the street, as well as of the street below. Also the pressure of the shower was incredible! The hotel is exceptionally clean, partially due to the lack of sound absorbing carpet. Our room was near the stairwell/ elevator so we probably did hear more noise than other guests might have.
clean, nice basic rooms in a busy street, close to the city center, with elevator, breakfast was continental, nice fruitsalad
OK for an overnight stop. Convenient for city centre. Clean. Outdated decor. Small, dark & gloomy room.
location to the town - the staff were very helpful n/a
staff was very nice and accomodating to change room type. It's a bit old, but it's clean and for the price, it's very good. the free parking in the backyard is a plus. breakfast is varied. Hotel is a bit old, and the pillows weren't the most comfortable. but these are minor issues.
the pool was great, and the staff very helpful. The hotel location is very good, near the town center and the new "portas do mar".
friendly bilingual staff environmental policy
If you need a family Hotel, choose this one. The hotel is very comfortable with friendly staff. In addition, the hotel is very clean. (Even in scandinavian standardt;-) The sidewalks are very narrow in this side of town - thats not Hotels mistake, I assume.
- Compared to other hotels in the city, the pool area was fairly large and there was enough space was sunbathing - Furniture arrangement in the hotel room was not practical
Nice rooms and overall decoration. Clean. Breakfast could be included in price. You might have more interesting options in the cafes of the surroundings. Rooms at the first floor might have a view to a wall/small garden instead of the picture on booking site.Pool operating hours could be longer.
The reception staff was pleasant and most accommodating. Location - not a pedestrian friendly part of the city. West of central square was much more pedestrian accommodating - wider sidewalks, pedestrian only streets, parks and sidewalk cafes - less dangerous for walking.
swimming pool and spa the breakfast was not so good and it was to expensive
Breakfast and Dinner served with the excellent customer care attitude by personnel. All what was needed was available without delays. E.g. rental car. Ala carte portions on restaurant would be nice. Just buffee was available.
It has nice outdoor and indoor pools, and huge lunch/dinner buffet (not included). Pillows are uncomfortable and room decor should be updated.
Very central and close to all amenities the town can offer. Good value, very friendly and helpful staff. Good choice.
Really central, near everything: monuments, parking possible in the street above, municipal market one street away, shopping center 50 ft away, restaurants all over the surroundings! A very nice hotel where to stay and from where, simply walking, you can reach everything to satisfy your needs, from lunch or dinner or shopping or parking, visiting museums or going to the theater (2 streets above). Fantastic staff, helpful and very efficient and nice breakfast (buffet). Enormous room, very clean and quiet! Internet was not available (pc was not working); breakfast could have more regional choices (local cheeses and pineapples could make it even better!); no spa, no sauna, no pool which is somewhat usual on this sort of hotels (4 stars)
Fantastically helpful staff at reception, room attendants etc. and a great location that more then compensates for the lack of seaview.
very poor quality/price relationship
Staff very friendly and Helpful. Swimming pool Jacuzzi and steam room all very well presented and clean It was very close to the airport and planes were landing and taking off directly over the hotel. However this was not a very frequent occurance.
Clean. modern, comfortable, lovely staff. Very average one star breakfast
Very comfortable room, very good breakfast, very close to "downtown". The elevator motor makes a very annoying noise that I could heard anytime from the room I stayed (3rd floor).
Well maintained hotel and the hotel staff were friendly. Hotel location near the heart of the city.A lot of parking space.
noisy people cleaning breakfast tables, noisy lifts and corridors
Desk personel very coperative. Good breakfast facilitys and food. Bath room shower and tub is not very safe. can slip in tub and hard for old persons to get in and out.
Friendly staff and nice rooms. Location was quite central, about 10 minutes walk to marina. Sounds of aeroplanes and elevator you can hear clearly to you room (at least in 5th floor) so if you are very light sleeper this might be i problem.
It would be fine if in the room would be a little fridge.
