after telling the kiddo for five hours of driving that we were goong to go swimming, the pool was "closed for 24 hours". when i explained our dissapointment at check in i was abrupty told that i could cancel my reservation. overall, the place is clean, worn out and out of the way. dont expect to walk anywhere and the free breakfast looked terrible.
I liked that it was connected to the green belt. It was at a convenient location to get to downtown. Our room was poorly cleaned. It looked like the bathroom floor had not been mopped, and the sink was plugged up.
Loved the pool and sauna, breakfast was nice Neighborhood felt sketchy
VERY friendly and helpful staff~from girls at the front desk to gentleman in the hospitality room to housekeeping staff! ! Lovely location next to river with extensive green belt for walking our dog. Very good experience overall. Facility is in need of TLC. Furniture in our room was very worn. Shower worked but I couldn't run just water for a bath.
The beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was nice, although the floor was not level around the door or bath area. TV's and wifi were great. This room was by an entrance, next to the pool and the breakfast area. The refrigerator was THE loudest one I've ever heard. So, unless you are getting a GREAT deal, THAT room is not a great room. Its on the first floor.
I mean, it's a $65/night hotel - what do you want? It was clean and comfy and the staff was really nice and helpful.
Dirty bathroom with clogged drains.
This place has improved over the old Shilo Inn but still needs a lot more updating to be truly nice. New furniture, bedding, floor coverings, some lighting, TVs and appliances. Single pane windows, old drapes, wallpaper, bathroom fixtures and tile. Crumbling lampshades, tile around tub not clean.
5 HBO channels Pet friendly Great breakfast all the way to 11:00 Superior Staff Microwave fridge in room Beauty location Value priced It's a bit tricky to navigate to and from this little gem tucked between two one way streets right on the river.
The staff was very helpful and worked hard to offset the minor inconveniences of a new ownership in an older hotel building. They are in the middle of upgrading, but have a ways to go. The location has some very nice points like access to the Boise greenbelt and good restaurants nearby. The laundry facilites are due for an upgrade, still working the bugs out of their internet.
Very clean, friendly and comfortable beds Could hear next door room
Breakfast staff was on top of everything during breakfast hours. Toilet. Tub and sink needs to be replaced as they were permanently dirty. Holes in wall. Screen door broken and hard to open. Hotel needs lots of updating.
The view from our window was great for my girls! Ordered breakfast the night before to be delivered at 8:30AM showed up 45 mins late. Paid $18 dollars to have my car get parked only to get a parking ticket! Still no one has returned my call and the front desk did nothing!!
We loved the valet parking. Downtown. Walking distance to a lot of places. Bed was ok. Pillows were ok. We both woke up with neck aches. The towel rack IN FRONT of the bathroom sink was very awkward. Trying to lean over and wash your face in the sink was not comfortable, and put added pressure on my low back! Why aren't the towel racks on the EMPTY wall next to the sink?!
The entire staff was attentive and friendly. Nancy was a true professional behind the bar!
Location is superb...central to the best shopping/dining/entertainment district in downtown Boise. Staff was very friendly and helpful, but that's probably just a reflection of the people of Boise/Idaho. Nice, nice people everywhere. lobby/hallway carpeting is older and dirty. Everything else is very well maintained and clean.
My room wasnt ready at check in 3pm so I was told that I would be upgraded however next day I found out I wasn't upgraded
Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast buffet was awesome. Staff was very nice. Property was dated
The rooms are very nice....clean... Extremely comfortable bed and pillows. The staff is very friendly . We booked the room with the double hot tub, we arrived a night early and they upgraded us to the hot tub room so we wouldn't have to change rooms the next day ! Love this hotel !! And amazing buffet breakfast included with the room. Nothing It's our new favorite Boise Hotel
Very nice stay. Staff took care of any needs . Included buffets were great.
Location, staff, comfortable bed, nice to have a restaurant in house Busy restaurant in morning. No coffee made
There isn't anything I would change.
The enviroment overall was great, I couldn't have asked for a better stay.
Clean and comfortable, friendly and attentive staff.
Good location HVAC system was terribly noisy. Each time it turned on we were woken up.
great as usual!
The staff were incredibly friendly and professional as you would expect. The best part was how friendly they were which reflects what I have seen of most Boise citizens. They greet you each time you come in and the valet was quick to help with directions or any requests made. Cafe and restaurant are solid options for the city. The hotel was obviously older and renovated. Bathrooms were lackluster and products in the room were not what I would expect from a boutique hotel like this one. Wireless internet could barely stream Pandora and anything greater than that was out of the question.
Great Location , comfort bed , great staff
Great atmosphere, relaxing, professional, and no disturbances. All around amazing experience! We didn't get to spend more time there... But that wasn't Hotel 43's fault!
clean and well maintained hotel. Great location and fairly priced. A delivery truck started delivering to the hotel very early.
A little noise
Simple temperature control, Some TV channels were blurry
The breakfast was awesome, the cooks did great customizing each omelette. The pool area has an additional 1 ft kiddy pool great for toddlers. Room was clean and staff was friendly. Great location.
Very nicely decorated. The inclusion for breakfast and the evening reception was also very nice. The typical hotel bed was somewhat uncomfortable.
It was clean and comfy and the staff was very welcoming and nice. The bathrooms are way nice with a separate shower and huge tub. The fridge also had a little freezer box and the.microwave could fit my daughters bottle which was great! It's just off the freeway and surrounded by good restaurants.
The large bathtub For the amount of money you pay to stay, access to cheaper snacks and drinks. Staff was unseen until am
We loved the breakfast and the cookies in the evening. Lovely and inviting lobby area to relax and read. The bed was too soft for our liking.
Staff was really friendly and helpful.
That was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever been on - I wanted to put it on the top of my car and bring it home with me. The toilet was difficult to flush...not impossible, but it had an issue.
Very nice and very clean! Great location and easy to find. Would definitely recommend and stay again!!
I love the modern look of the rooms. Very spacious, big pull out couch and living room area, big flat screen TV, refrigerator. Delicious complimentary breakfast. Great deal for just under $100. The staff seemed a little incompetent. We ordered room service and then they called us almost an hour later and said we have to come down to the lobby to carry up our own food. When I got down there they had four plates and three drinks sitting on their front desk counter. I asked if they at least had a tray I could use but they said the one tray they had was stolen. So I had to take a couple trips to carry up all my food. And the room service food was terrible and basically inedible so it was a waste of money. But their breakfast food was great. The bathrooms in our room did not have a sanitary strip around the toilet but there were some in the droor so it was clear they are supposed to use them. I called the desk to ask for a couple more pillows and a blanket because we wanted to use the pull out bed from the couch for our kids and there was not bedding for that bad in the room. The woman at the front desk seemed very put out and said they only have a small number of extra pillows in the whole hotel, but they eventually brought them to us. So if I would have just stayed in the hotel without ordering room service or needing any help from the staff I would have given a great review because I did love the room for a great price. They just need a little help with customer service.
Liked the hotel decor, fitness center, coffee bar, beer and wine and the limited but good menu for food No healthy hot options for breakfast, oatmeal tastes like glue!, why so many sweetened kids cereals???? Ugh so annoying
We arrived during the March Madness basketball tournament and I was hoping to catch the second half of a game. The first room had a TV connection issue. When I called, I assumed they would send up someone to connect wires or hit some buttons to set up the TV properly. Instead, they put us in a new room within 5 minutes of my phone call. I saw the entire second half of the game. Thank you.
Reservation wasn't held. Kicked me out.
The room was spacious and comfortable. It was clean. There wasn't a microwave in the room. We had to leave at 6:30 before the breakfast, so we didn't get to take advantage of that.
Great location for downtown access. Very clean and comfortable room. Top notch decor and amazing bedding! We enjoyed our Idaho Spud Bars upon check in. Will stay here again!
The modern throwback rooms and the great gas fires outside. Good appetizers and food starting at 4 pm and nighttime campfire fun! In the Linen Disrict near some great bakery's and cafes. Will definitely stay here again. Super showers!!!! Small bathroom with no counter space but awesome showers!
There was delicious food in the bar. Located near a lot of activities. Staff was friendly and helpful even though we left early. The hotel is a remodeled Travel Lodge. Cinder block front doesn't block much of the street noise. Between emergency vehicles and pedestrian traffic, we didn't leave rested.
It was a cool design, the staff was great, parking was easy and the location was great. I didn't like a warm shower in the middle of winter. I'm going back to Boise quite a bit, and will not be staying there. There are cheaper hotels that are just as comfortable. Maybe not as chic, but just as comf.
The rooms are gorgeous, modern, quiet, and green!!! The bed was extremely comfortable, it felt you feel like I was sleeping on a cloud. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. They offered me and delivered to my room, a small refrigerator. The food was fantasitic and the atmosphere was quaint and nice with an outside private eating area and firepit. The hotel is in a perfect location within blocks of downtown and is half a block from one of the best breakfast and coffee places ever! And the hotel conveniently has a free shuttle to airport. Overall, I loved my stay at the Modern Hotel and would definitely recommend it! The hotel is two stories and doesnt have an elevator.
I love the modern feel of the inside. They kept the original outside with a cool hip renovation inside. I didn't like that most the rooms don't have a refrigerator and I don't like the waterfall shower head but that's just my personal preference.
Very loud noise from kitchen area all night.
Staff attention to detail Eating/dining options are limited but it not the fault of the hotel
Great value for the money. Plenty of parking, close to the airport.
I was so quiet but I was there on a Sunday night. Breakfast was pretty minimal.
Front desk check in staff was a bit rude at check in. It is a disappointment that this facility does not have an indoor pool, considering it is in an area that has warm enough weather for outdoor swimming approximately two months a year. On that note, having the availability of a hot tub room/exercise room would at least be a favorable asset and more appealing for travelers.
Clean, quiet room, ready on arrival. Bed comfortable. Good web connection. Staff helpful and courteous. Good value, will stay again. Breakfast poor.
I THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD DEAL FOR THE MONEY. THE LOCATION WAS THE MOST BENEFICIAL THING FOR US. IT WAS EXTREMELY CONVENIENT FOR ATTENDING A CONCERT AT THE TACO BELL ARENA. I REALLY WANTED EGGS WITH THE BREAKFAST, BUT OTHERWISE I WOULD RECCOMMEND THIS MOTEL FOR FRIENDS AND I WILL STAY HERE AGAIN!!
We stayed only one night, the bed was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly. Overall, it was very good. We stayed on the second floor and during the night, someone on the third floor above our room on the third floor got up and walked heavily on the floor, enough to wake us up twice during the night.
Place was quiet, but we were in fairly late and out the next morning. Room was clean. Could use a better internet connection. It was rather slow Breakfast was minimal.
Very clean, comfortable beds, breakfast, later check out time
Great facility and staff. Location is at the edge of town and very close to the airport so shopping and dining options are very limited without driving
This was a great place to stay! Just off the Freeway and right next to the airport (though you couldn't hear the planes!) Downtown isn't that far away either. The staff were very pleasant to deal with. We had many interactions, and from the Front Desk to the Housekeeping everyone was kind, patient, and happy to help. The rooms were very up-to-date and comfortable. They had plenty of pillows, too! It was a nice place to stay. We will probably be back, since we travel through Boise often.
Good sized room, very clean. Great price
I don't feel like I should have even paid for my room for what happened. First thing: our room was falling apart. One of the lights were completely hanging out of its hole. I'm sure that's couldn't have been safe. But I let the light issue slide because of how tired I was. Then second: after a very long day of traveling all I wanted to do was go to sleep. But when I pulled the sheets down on my bed... There was a GIANT Yellow stain in the middle and side of the white blanket. And I shouldn't even say "stain" a stain is when a spot won't come out AFTER washing it. This blanket was never washed. And the spot smelled horrible. I called to the front desk just to be told that he wasn't sure if he had any extra bedding and would have to let me know. (Still just wanting to sleep) 10 minutes later I get a call back saying he found me blanket. When I opened my door he was holding another nasty old wool looking blanket. I told him that it was the white down comforter that was stained and proceeded to tell me that the hotel did not have any extra blankets because they don't wash this comforters everytime!!! GROSS!!!! Even if that is the case... Why would they still make the bed with a yellow stain that smelled horrible and leave it for the next guest?!?! I asked to talk to the manager just to be told he was the only one there and if I still wanted the wool blanket? Again in the morning I asked to talk to the manger just to be told she had the day off. So moral of the story... If I wanted to have to remake a bed at midnight I would have just stayed home for free!!!!
Awesome three bed room for cheap
Our room was very clean and comfortable. We had plenty of room. The staff was friendly. The pool and hot tub were cloudy, and a large group came in with beer. We left the pool area immediately. The hot breakfast items ran or over an hour early.
Cleanliness, facilities, ease of location Didn't offer extended checkout
Close to airport so midnight arrival meant less driving. Close to freeway. Loved the indoor heated pool. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Water-saving toilet wouldn't flush properly and required two visits from maintenance guy to get it working, sort of. Mattress was not very comfortable, but ok.
The place is at a great location: just off the highway but at a distance that it was totally quiet at night. The facilities were nice and breakfast was ok. I would stay here again when passing through Boise.
This hotel felt fresh and new. Beds were very comfortable, and large pool and work out facilities. Everything was clean.
Indoor pool/hot tub, spacious suite, wifi, friendly staff, very quiet, beautiful grounds, 12:00 pm checkout, proximity to shopping/entertainment/dining, climate controlled and modern rooms. Floors were dirty underneath beds.
All the staff were very friendly and super accommodating.
Everyone what very nice and accommodating. The pool and workout area were very nice and well equipped with good equipment. You could smell smoke in the room whenever the bathroom fan came on, so much so that it was difficult to take a deep breath.
We were greeted with a warm smile upon arrival and then every time we returned back to the motel. It was the quickest, smoothest check in that we have ever had in our travels. As we left, we were told to have a wonderful day. Having to leave.
No free breakfast
We were there for a wedding, it was the perfect location. It was a very nice hotel and will stay there again. You had to pay for breakfast. I am not a morning person and don't usually eat breakfast so everyone goes to the hotel and we sit around they eat I drink coffee. We did not feel that comfortable there.
Had to pay for breakfast. $11/person. There wasn't a continental breakfast.
The hotel is clean, and the staff is friendly. They have a shuttle that takes you to downtown which is nice. I would stay here again.
Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room had a small balcony. Our stay was very comfortable. The hotel has a nice bar with lots of TVs and plenty of sports channels playing. The room had a new LCD TV, microwave, and refrigerator. There was no free breakfast, but there is a buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
The hotel feels very large upon entering the lobby. I liked that a lot. The check in girl was nice and offered me a room on any floor I liked. I had a king bed and there was still tons of space in the room. The windows completely open (screen and all) so the fresh air was awesome. I would stay here again if I needed too!
We walked in the woman behind the counter greeted us with a warm smile, she explained everything to us with a smile on her face. Pointed us to our room. Our room was clean and overlooked the pool which made it very easy for us to watch our kids. Thank you downtowner red lion for making us feel welcome. I believe that's the most important thing.
Overall great stay, we were helped with great efficiency.
TV reported but never did work (2 nights). TV reported but never did work (2 nights).
I could have stayed closer to Boise State University (my ultimate destination) but it's a short drive through downtown Boise to get there and I saved some money by staying here. There's a Starbuck's store that's a short 4 block walk.
The hotel is within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and pubs in downtown Boise. There is a great breakfast place just two blocks away and a really good Chinese place next door. It was quiet, the staff was helpful and courteous and the lounge had a good drink selection at a reasonable price. There is ample free parking and it was a good value for the price.
More of a gap under the door than I like to see which allowed hall noise to be heard. However for the night there was not alot of hallway traffic. Although right over the hotel entry, there was no noise from there.
I loved the hotel, very nice!!! My only issue is that the lift was out of order.
Stayed here visiting home from out of town. Had never stayed but have heard good things so figured I'd give it a shot. I was happily pleased with the quality of the remodeled rooms and the pool hours. The gym is small and mostly cardio equipment with a small amount of dumbells. The staff and restaurant were great too!
Room had both a microwave & a fridge, not expected for the rate paid. The only con was the Meeting rooms across the hall were occupied well into the late evening by noisy young adults filtering in and out.
Location was close to BSU Room was dirty, pet hair in carpet, matted hair in clumps in several areas. We did't have a pet and did NOT want a pet room. Sink and kitchen area not cleaned with dried spills on counters. Stains on couch and linens. Tub had black tarish goop in clumps..
Gas grill by the pool is awesome Nope
Liked it all. The snacks in the evening and breakfast were appreciated most.

Close t Boise state, good food, nice room Air conditioner was noisy when it was on

Loved the full kitchen. Liked that the shower was separate from the sink. Very quite, no one above us, couldn't hear through the walls. nice grounds. Very friendly staff and shuttle to where you needed to go. Coffee pot was disgusting, but as soon as I told the front desk they had a new one for me pronto. The bathroom sink is really low and after four days my back was hurting.

Breakfast were very good. The pool and hot tub is well maintained. The only option for a bed was a single queen size. I travel alot and this is the first time that was the only option. The air conditioners are very noisy and from the staff there it is a issue in all rooms. They are old air conditioners.
Nice atmosphere, updated furnishing. Walking distance to downtown (about 1 mile) and Whole Foods Market was on the next block. There was no continental breakfast, we had to leave the hotel to eat. There were a la carte items available at the "market" concession in the lobby.
Rain ran off the roof onto to A/C unit and it was very noisy. They moved us but confessed this is a problem. Don't stay on the 4th floor if it is raining.
This hotel had an actual 'Courtyard' with a huge fire pit and wonderful chairs in a beautiful setting with lots of trees and even a water feature!
Breakfast not included. Only had a bistro with counter service. Not what I felt was within walking distance to downtown restaurants.
Great customer service. Casey was very helpful and concerned about our comfort. Thank you!
Housekeeping and reservation staff was very friendly and helpful. The weekend breakfast attendant hustled and kept all of the breakfast stations supplied. Carpet throughout is horribly dirty, which affected my feeling of the total facility cleanliness.
The felling of being in lodge in the northwest
Where do I start...free hot breakfast, 24 hr pool and workout room, great in room entertainment, nighttime cookies and milk...beer and wine for purchase at front desk...free shuttle. This place is a steal and it is immaculate plus serviced by a helpful staff
We appreciated the cleanliness and updated amenities. Some of the supplies were not out for breakfast, but the staff quickly jumped on it and help with that.
The girl who runs the evening shift was extremely helpful and polite. The service was above my expectations.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, wish more people would tip staff .
Staff tried to be helpful but their incompetence is killing them. Dirty rooms. Smell of tobacco in the none smoking room. Incompetent staff. I stayed at a Marriott in Pullman this same week. The difference was shocking. Stay away from this hotel.
Nice rooms friendly staff Pillows could have been a little more firm
Proximity to downtown and airport.
Convenience -- closeness to airport and free shuttle. My bed had not been made. Young, incompetent staff. Bad food. Long wait for sandwich; cook was AOL
The staff was amazing. Rooms clean. Pillows were hard to sleep with, not nearly firm enough.
Hot breakfast Seating format for breakfast
There was some kind of motor running in an adjacent room which made it impossible to sleep in our room !
Front desk staff. very friendly and helpful the third floor where I stayedsmelled like mildew. In the cleaning crew word very very obnoxious and noisy. It sounded like they were doing construction all morning. I have never been so irritated when staying at a hotel.
