Pros: Great location and comfortable rooms

Pros: All, highly recommended!!

Cons: My wife fell down poorly lit stairs in the lobby and severely sprained her ankle. For the duration of our vacation she had pain and discomfort and restrained mobility. The hotel took no responsibility and offered no recompense. Good design means more than fake Eames chairs.

Pros: The location, the modern design, the reception staff (hat tip to Viktoria), the bell boy Ivo, the buffet breakfast and the breakfast staff (especially the super friendly Lalita), the 9th floor bar and its super view of the cathedral (special mention for Hristo), and the very good food in both restaurants.

Cons: Housekeeping let the side down. Poor condition towels and then a dirty towel, not replacing the glasses and crockery (two days running), not replenishing the coffee and not really doing a great job on the cleaning. All niggles agreed on an otherwise great score. But it did mean we had to complain several times.

Pros: Receptionist was really friendly

Cons: Asked for shirt pressing service, and was told that timing was very achievable. Returned and was told that it was not possible

Pros: The best thing about this hostel was the location. The bunkers beds have a curtain, locker and light included which means that you have a little bit of privacy on a share room. Value for money is great.

Pros: Great hostel especially for solo travelers. Met people from all around the world and everyone was super friendly. The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the free dinner and breakfast were delicious and great value for you money! The hostel is in a quiet location very close to the center and easy to reach. All in all I very much enjoyed my stay in hostel mostel and would definitely recommend to anyone who passes through Sophia.

Cons: Our room was in other building 5 minutes away from the main building but we knew before get there.

Pros: Positive things first: the stuff in the hostel was super friendly and helped us as good as possible. I came here, because I liked the architecture of the bulding, thought it was quiet there and because there is obviously such a great choice of breakfest...well, thats what i thought:

Cons: The hostel draws attention on booking.com with the beautiful old renovated building, the terrasse and the great choice of breakfast. BE WARNED, this is a ripp off. There are just some beds in the main bulding, it basically just serves as the check in. The hostel is huge and can take about 200 people, most of them are situated somewhere else in the city. I got an email before arrival, that my room was situated somewhere else, 5 min away (actually it was more about 10 min). The bulding did not have a terrasse and was directly at the main street, so really loud. Also, since it is about 200 people in different places over Sofia, the breakfast at the main building is totally crowded. There is a queue and just with some luck you find a place to sit. I talked to the stuff there, why they did not mention these things on the homepage. They told me that lots of people complained in the past about these things, but the owner of the hostel still does not want to mention it at the homepage. So basically, what i didnt like is not really the fact, that I couldnt stay at the place where I thought I would stay - it was more, that i felt uncomfortable because I knew, that this was a deliberate attempt of fooling people. So, before book, be aware of this!

Pros: The lounge is very comfortable and cozy. The location is near the center. Food is delicious.

Cons: A closet to put your clothes in may be useful.

Pros: As independent travelers we needed somewhere that was accessible by public transport. The hotel is only about 5 minutes walk from the nearest Metro. Staff extremely pleasant and happy to help even when we floundered with the language. Excellent buffet breakfast in a very airy dining area.

Cons: Very little. If I was being picky then would have liked BBC News and a kettle in the room but that’s me just being overly English. Will definitely consider it when next looking at hotel accommodation in Sofia.

Pros: Very clean. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. We checked out at 4 AM Saturday night, wife wanted to use the sauna before we left, they opened it for her around midnight. We asked for coffee while waiting for the cab, they opened the breakfast room and made two coffees (it's a single cup machine) to go. Also arranged us excellent trip to the Rila Lakes on Friday.

Cons: Room was a bit small, no coffee maker or electric kettle in the room.

Pros: Good location, nice staff, I recommend private parking (20L per day - 10€). Very nice view from the top floor, breakfast OK. Free Sofia Tour was perfect, guide Kris very funny, do not miss when in Bulgarian capital.

Pros: It was clean, comfortable and handily close to the main rail and bus stations in an up and coming area on the northern edge of the city centre. Breakfast was good and the staff were always friendly and cheerful.

Pros: The location is not as good as advertised; although close to the centre, it’s equally close to some shabby neighbourhoods.

Cons: The staff are very helpful bit not all of them speak good English — minor detail.

Pros: We like the location of the hotel. It's walking distance to many places. The staff were very friendly.

Pros: Very good location and well connected. Very close to good places to eat and an easy walk to places we wanted to visit.

Cons: All in all a good stay for us and made a positive impression. Only problem was we had a leak near the entry but they fixed it within minutes of us calling for services. Oh and the other thing was, it indeed was good value for money but beware that your breakfast is NOT included in the price. It's 15 lev per person for a very good breakfast spread.

Cons: Physical M&E needs a total evaluation. I suspect the chillers are way past minimal efficiency standards. Air conditioning does not work well at all. Very uncomfortable when temps reached 33C.

Cons: The entire week they were remodeling the whole entrance so you had to walk through construction to get anywhere. A typical breakfast in the city is about 10-16 leva a person and for that same food here it is 40+ leva. It just seemed that everything in the hotel was marked up 400% for a sense of entitlement that made no sense. I stayed at other hotels that were half the cost with the same quality rooms.

Pros: We spent at hotel Balkan twice in the same month since we really enjoyed our first time and couldn’t think of any better place to stay in Sofia, the rooms were beautiful and big enough, we took one double room and one triple room (2 single beds + extra bed opened for the youngest child aged 10). We had a great parking spot on the front of the hotel main entrance (paid for it but it was completely comfortable and worth the price (33Euro for 24 hours) and we came with a Van which is not so easy to find a good parking spot in city center especially with a van. The breakfast was very good, a variety of flavors, every one can find it’s lovable food to eat. The Staff were super nice and warm. The service is very good, each and every one of the staff we met in the hotel: parking guy, doorman, lobby, room service, breakfast and on... were very open forward and welcoming, made our stay so warm and comfortable. Last and best is the location, the beautiful Vitosha street just few minutes away, the market, temple and more.., all close by, definitely no need to use the car.

Cons: I want to write this article in English, in order to be understood by hotel staff. This hotel could be a very very good reference in Sofia. Rooms are good, baths are nice, situation is superb... But there are some things unexpected in a high level hotel: breakfast is designed with a interesting idea, the dining room is new, but waitress (specially girls) have no empathy, even they are antiphatic. Smile is free and os good for health. If you order the same menu two days, the way if made It changes!!! Croissant with bacon, cheese and egg. First day, croissant grilled, bacon and cheese separatly. Second day, croissant cold, no cheeese??? The hotel needs inmediatly a professional staff manager.

Pros: We have stayed in Sofia hotel for 3 nights. The staff were polite and helpful. We booked the penthouse for family it was spacious and clean with air conditioning and nice view to Lion square. The hotel was only 10 min walk from the train station and the underground stop (Lavov most) is in front of the hotel. However all the attractions and Vitosha street is only a 10 min walk from the hotel. Breakfast wasn’t that good but you can find a very big supermarket opposite the hotel for good food as well.

Cons: The main door lock was broken. Little variety for the breakfast and no cornflakes and milk for kids.

Cons: Stains on the wall, rank smell in the bathroom, very soft beds. Our window looked directly into a slummy apartment across the alley. Wifi only worked in the lobby, but not the rooms very well. Also the location is not as good as it appears, the nicer area of town is definitely to the south nearer the cathedral church and Vitosha Street. The staff was very indifferent as well.
