It's a home away from home :) Being in a country that is not that friendly (China), I didn't feel alien, rather feel so homie. And always look forward to coming home (Michael's House). It's comfortable, with friendly atmosphere. Only the breakfast gets cold very fast, the juice was canned juices, and the butter tasted a little funny.
Friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, clean and comfortable room. Location a bit off 'the beaten path'... great! Occasional strange noise from the air conditioner.
Friendly atmosphere and staff helpfull Better to stay in your room in winter. The reception and bar area is cold.
Micheal's House is a charming hotel, situated a bit outside the center of Beijing. Not all taxi drivers know how to get there, so always carry the adress of the hotel in Chinese with you. The staff and Micheal and his wife are super friendly and did their outmost to accomodate us. Each room is different from the others and this gives the hotel a very friendly and cozy atmosphere. The breakfast could be more varied and also on time. All three mornings during our stay, the breakfast was late although we had agreed with the staff the evening before on the time of serving breakfast. They could also allow more heating in the very nice lobby area so that you don't have to wear extra clothes while having breakfast or while having a beer with your friends in the evening.
Very personable staff. Good breakfast. Good recommendations for taxi's, drivers, etc. No
The Chinese style of the hotel, the elegant interior, the intimate lounge which made you feel being at home and the personal attention of the owners.
The staff were superb and the accomodation was excellent. Much nicer to stay in an attractive traditional Hutong than a boring standard 5 star hotel. The service was personal and the rooms and public space were nicely decorated. The rooms were a decent size and clean. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in Beijing who is looking for a cultural, personal experience. Nothing
The dumpling is really nice. Good value for money especially during Olympic time. The hotel is well decorated, clean and comfortable. To my surprise, my room (Emperor Suite) has internet. Also, hair dryer is provided and no need to hire. The directional map needs more specific information or locational reference points cause even the taxi driver cannot find the way.
The staff were very attentive and response with questions both via email and in person when I arrived at the hotel. I found the whole experience fantastic and relaxing. It was like a small oasis in the madness of Beijing.
Traditional chinese rooms/atmosphere. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Very quiet hotel. Plenty of little restaurants/shops at the end of road. Internet access everywhere. very clean. lots of attention to detail. Quite hard to find. Hotel provide a map writen in chinese which proved a godsend when in taxi's trying to find hotel.
Small, quiet, boutique hotel in a good location for access to sight seeing in Central Beijing, but away from the tourist traps. The staff were most helpful and friendly, a very, very big thank you to the lady who on Saturday evening managed to get a reservation very late and last minute for my girlfriend and myself to enjoy delicious Beijing Roast Duck at a top restaurant from our guide book, they stayed open for our arrival!. All staff were helpful with directions and trip planing and allowing us to store bags after checkout for our late flight while we did some last minute sight seeing. My only complaint, we didn't stay long enough to see all Beijing had to offer (due to time constraints).
The Spring Garden Hotel is in a traditional hutong, a disappearing part of Beijing history. It is off of a small alleyway, a 5-7 minute walk from a subway station, so quite convenient. Each of the rooms face one of 2 small courtyards, each with its own loveliness. The room we stayed in was small, but there was room for everything. No English channels on TV, but that was not what we came for. The furnishings were in lovely dark, ornately carved wood, & the decorations/ wallpaper seemed to be in traditional patterns. We had requested a king bed, although it seemed more like an American Queen, it was fine-it may be that's what a Chinese king bed is. Staff is warm and lovely, arranged for taxis & shows, breakfast and desk staff English good. Be aware the bed has rails on 3 sides, so if there are 2 of you, one has to climb over the other to get out. The bed is hard, but was comfortable for us. The shower in the bathroom is small and you have to be very careful with the doors, which don't close completely, to make sure water doesn't go all over the bathroom floor.
friendly personel service, nothing was too much trouble the bed was a little hard
We were enchanted by the age and loveliness of the hotel. It is quite small, very old, and beautiful preserved. The staff were warm and gracious. We were unable to take advantage of all the extras that were offered, but I'm sure they were all fun and interesting. I'd like to see some kind of insulation around the doors and windows. We felt wasteful trying to heat such a drafty room. Still, we were never cold even when the temps were below 0 and the wind was howling.
The staff is very friendly and the hotel is comfortable, quiet and very nicely decorated in historical style.
We loved the traditional feel of the hotel. The hotel is a traditional courtyard home and the rooms have traditional Chinese furnishings. The young women who worked there were polite and very eager to please. Although their English is not fluent, we were able to make ourselves understood. The dumplings and buns served for breakfast were very tasty. We stayed in late November and although there was a heater it was a little cold at night. Two days into our five day stay we were supplied with a second heater and after that we were nice and warm. I also think the map and the directions on the hotel's card are not clear enough . We used it each time we took a taxi home, but taxi drivers still seemed to have difficulty and two or three called the hotel for more directions.
The friendly staff and the pleasant atmosphere of the place. Calm and restful in a genuine (the hutong-style) way though it was situated in central Beijing. Fantastic! I liked it all!! But the price for going to the great wall with the hotel-car was far too high...
Friendly staff nothing is too much trouble
The hotel has a very authentically Chinese ambience with very friendly and helpful staff. It is quite central, with a subway station and bus stops nearby. Very good value for money. The location, being within an old style Hutong, might be tough to find when you first arrive, but not impossible to find.
I liked the friendliness of the staff and the familiar atmosphere of the hotel. They also organize interesting cultural activities.
The staff at this hotel made our stay here really enjoyable, they were so nice and would do anything to help.
The staff is fantastic. They will go out of their way to make your stay more enjoyable. They can do anything: tour/train/flight booking, help with local transport, etc. Good local breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere at the hotel is friendly and relaxed. I really enjoyed my stay there.
The staff was wonderful - helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was unique and cultural. Though not luxurious, little details were thought of, such as hot water, bathroom extras and an IMB thinkpad in the room. A very charming and interesting experience. Nothing.
The Hutongren Hotel is in a fabulous location just off one of the most interesting Hutong alleys in Beijing. Lots to do and see on foot. The staff were just the best. Very helpful and friendly. The bed is a futon and a bit like being in camp. Other than that, the room was just great. The public areas were rather messy and dusty.
Location and really a very good experience of living in a hutong. It was not prepeared for raining and the rooms need more ventilation.
staff excellent, v friendly & helpful rooms a little less "modern" than would appear in the pictures on their website; but ok once you get used to it
Atmosphere great, staff excellent, like feeling at home! I will certainly be back when I am in Beijing next time. Excellent position. Due to the kind of accomodation in the hutong area of Beijing, the rooms are very very small, but nice. The room I was given the first night did not have windows, so I felt a little bit without air. Lots of mosquitos and air conditioning was not very good in that room. But I was changed room the second night and this was ok and much nicer. Breakfast was included but actually I was just given some steamed and fried buns and coffee. If you want a sweet breakfast, I am not sure this is available. So I managed myself for the following mornings, since I do not like salted food in the morning.
Very nice, caretaking staff!! One Star - Hotel (western ratio). Small, moistly rooms. The kindlyness of the staff was no consolation for the rooms. Fotos don't match with the real rooms. To expensive for the quality. Sorry.
