In recent years, Doha has become a leading destination for luxury stays, and is one of my favorite spots for a glamorous vacation. Overlooking the Persian Gulf, the glitzy capital of Qatar has a reputation for cutting-edge design, architectural marvels and world-class opulence. Yet, amongst the skyscrapers and artificial islands, the city is proud of its rich history and culture. You’ll find that many of the best hotels in Doha intentionally blend these elements, featuring dazzling displays of modern architecture and hints of traditional Arabic interior design. It’s one of my favorite things about Doha’s hotel offerings, as it makes the hotels feel inspired and innovative yet warm and welcoming. There are amenity-heavy hotels for business travelers and classy, resort-style properties featuring rooftop pools and wellness centers for the more leisure-focused. While the city may appear like a mirage in the Arabian desert, Doha offers a retreat for every type of traveler looking for an indulgent getaway. Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Doha.
Jawaan Street, Al Sadd, P.O. Box 22606
Price:RM 35-335/night
In the heart of Doha, the Grand Regency Hotel brings to life the vibrant tapestry of the city through its purposeful design, making it one of the best luxury hotels in Doha. Located near the city's bustling business center, the large sandstone hotel offers business travelers and leisure seekers a place to unwind in one of over 245 rooms and suites. Go for complete luxury with the Al Kaabi Royal Suite, draped in rich furnishings and featuring a private hot tub with city views. Meanwhile, the on-site gourmet restaurant caters to every taste, with a varied international menu cooked by master chefs from around the world. After a busy day of meetings or exploring the city, I like to rejuvenate by soaking in the hot tub or enjoying a drink at the outdoor pool.
Souq Waqif Po Box 3496
Price:RM 34-187/night
Discover a unique experience in one of the best hotels in Doha based in the iconic Souq Waqif, the city’s historic and cultural center. With various rooms and suites, the hotel easily captures the vibrant essence of traditional Arabian markets while offering contemporary interior design and outstanding comfort. You can choose from eight restaurants across multiple locations, each focusing on a different cuisine, from Moroccan to Georgian. My top tip: after a wander through the bustling stalls of the souq, reset your senses at Doha’s only Moroccan hammam experience, known simply as The Spa. Rotate through scrubs, steams, massages and healing facials with the attentive and professional staff. Those visiting for business will also find a range of meeting and conference facilities, from outdoor rooftop lounges to indoor theatres for hosting events.
Barahat Al Jufairi Street
Price:RM 36-196/night
Located in Souq Al Najada, near the traditional Souq Waqif, Al Najada Doha Hotel by Tivoli is a tranquil haven amidst the buzzing marketplaces. The hotel blends modern design with traditional curved archways, neutral desert tones, and Islamic geometric patterns. High-end comfort is also guaranteed. Many of the rooms and suites come with private balconies with unmatched views over the city skyline and the piazza below. Inside, rooms combine modern Arabic style with a relaxing ambience to create a peaceful escape from Doha’s hustle and bustle. One of the best luxury hotels in Doha, the outdoor pool is one of my preferred places to beat the heat with an ice-cold drink in hand. At sundown, be sure to head up to the piazza terrace for a meal at the on-site restaurant.
977 Al Hikma Street Al Mirqab
Price:RM 28-126/night
Part of the renowned Ramada by Wyndham collection, this property in Old Town Doha is ideal for the everyday traveler looking for an amenity-rich retreat. Located within walking distance of many of the city’s major sights, including the Souq Waqif, Doha Corniche and Museum of Islamic Art, this is one of the best hotels in Doha for location. The bright and polished interiors create a warm and welcoming ambience, while traditional Arabic textures and patterns add a dash of local flair. There are plenty of facilities designed for relaxation, leisure and business, including a gym, an outdoor pool and a business center. However, it’s the dining options that impress the most, offering everything from poolside Lebanese cuisine and a stylish bar with hand-crafted cocktails to an international all-day restaurant and on-site Starbucks.
