Excellent 8.0
Pros: A lovely property and very nice host that met us and explained everything - was very relaxed was able to get tea and coffee from the kitchen.,
Cons: The main room which we was lucky to have for 2 nights was lovely but the next one was very dark and faced trees.
Good 7.5
Pros: Character property with lovely view over Funchal bay day and night.
Cons: We booked for an authentic Portuguese experience, on reflection it would have been easier with own transport. We were expecting a little more than continental breakfast.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Our fourth stay here - as usual, everything was perfect. Rita is a great host. We always recommend QSG to friends planning to visit Madeira. My wife is a travel writer at www.packthesuitcases.com and has some photos of the views from the Quinta on there. It's the perfect place to stay.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The room was spacious and the balcony with view over Funchal a lovely added extra. Breakfast was served outside as the weather was so good and there was plenty of everything, especially speciality breads and good tea.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The breakfast is gorgeous, the place is charming, everything is filled with reflected light from the ocean surface, Rita, the host created a small paradise there.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The crew was nice and lovely! The breakfast with view to Funchal was unforgettenable. The facality conditions of the quinta is very good. The owner lady was very friendly.
Cons: Small ants in the basin (bathroom).
Excellent 9.0
Cons: The bed was comfortable but far too small for two people. Unfortunately our sleep was disturbed.
Good 7.7
Pros: A fabulous and very impressing house with a beautiful and well kept garden. The Quinta and its rooms are in an excellent condition with a luxurious atmosphere. Sitting on the loggia of the "superior room" or on the terrasse opens a splendid view over Funchal and its harbour and when having breakfast, one could stay there for hours. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The owner of the Quinta came by every morning in order to see whether everything was fine. There is one good and one excellent restaurant in walking distance with mostly native guests so there is no need to go to Funchal for taking meals and this avoids having to visit the touristic oriented restaurants in Funchal.
Cons: The walk to Funchal is only 25 minutes but uncomfortable because one must walk on streets with no side-walk. However, this is the price you must pay in consideration for staying in a location outside Funchal that offers more personal atmosphere than a hotel. In any case, bus connections are good and if you have a car, it is only 10 minutes to Funchal that offers good parking possibilities.
Good 7.3
Pros: Very nice, comfortable and clean with a beautiful breakfast served on a patio overlooking the port at Funcal. The owner was friendly, helpful and resourceful.
Cons: It's close to a noisy street.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: It provided excellent service with a friendly owner. Most suited to a quiet break for couples.
Cons: Nothing at all!
Okay 5.0
Pros: Spacious room with wonderful views over Funchal and the harbour.
Cons: Exceptionally narrow bed (in the the very big room). Barking dogs and loud neighbours disrupted much of the expected tranquility. There is only one restaurant in the neighbourhood. The walk into Funchal is only some 25 minutes, but unpleasant un the narrow road on which peaple drive way too fast. Owner only accepted cash payment (credit card machine had not arrived...) and returned no receipt. Didn't promote a very serious impression.
Good 7.7
Pros: Excellent place for people who want to stay outside the touristic district and who don't like huge crowded hotels. Fantastic atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Beautiful view over Funchal. Walking distance to the restaurants area in Funchal about 20 min and 30 back.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Beautiful gardens and a stunning view over the harbour. Very friendly, helpful owners and staff. Quiet and calm.
Cons: $review.cons
Good 6.7
Pros: lovely location, friendly staff
Cons: Although bus stopped virtually outside, buses were irregular with big gaps in evening. It is possible to walk into Funchal but not a pleasant walk (30mins)

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Lovely location in the old town, with a gate onto the promenade. Delicious breakfasts. Friendly helpful staff. We never go anywhere twice because there’s a big world out there to explore, but we’re planning to return here next year ...
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Good quality. Good service
Cons: N/a
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything we could have hoped for. Lovely spacious rooms and helpful friendly staff.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Friendly and welcoming. Good sized rooms with a useful kitchenette. Great choice of food at breakfast.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The variety of cooked and fresh food was excellent
Excellent 8.5
Pros: Close to the sea, teleferic, bus station and old town. Very generous breakfast.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excellent range of items and choice of fresh fruit. Staff friendly and welcoming. Entertainment in hotel enjoyable and varied.Floral display in lobby really beautiful and gardens well tended. Toiletries provided of good quality.
Cons: Only 2 jets working in indoor hot tub. Room very noisy at night..even when aircon/heating switched off the noise from ducting kept me from sleeping so I visited local pharmacy and bought earplugs. Unfortunate that saunas were not mixed so could not sauna with my husband so did not use that facility. Tour advertised as including trip to cheese factory however on arrival at Santa de Serra hotel were informed that this would not take place after all. Not previously notified which was a shame.. we had previously stayed at the hotel at S de S and have played golf there so the only new experience on the trip was the visit to the bakery. I would probably not have booked the trip if I had known there had been a change to the itinerary.

Pros: Wonderful views from the park of the hotel over the town of Funchal. A peaceful paradise on the hilltop! Very helpful staff.
Cons: Not possible to walk into town...distance is too great. Shuttle service offered but not enough departure and return times proposed.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Gardens, Spa, Lounge Views
Cons: A bit off the track. Restaurant pricy.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Although 20 minutes away by taxi from Funchal it was worth it for the wonderful location overlooking the city and surrounded by fabulous gardens and golf course. Very nice staff.
Cons: Bedrooms were noisy in the mornings as staff were moving around early.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The manor house is in a bucolic setting and impeccably maintained. Our room Number 1 was very comfortable. We signed up for bed and breakfast and the breakfasts were very good as were the dinners. The staff was always very friendly and polite.
Cons: No complaints
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Excellent choice of food
Cons: N/A
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Casa Velha is a secluded country house hotel, set high above Funchal, with extensive, beautiful grounds and golf course. A garden lover's paradise with free access to the famous Palheiro gardens. The accommodation is charming, as is the service. The restaurant's cuisine and ambience are very good too.
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The hotel is in a magical location with splendid gardens. It is like staying in an English country house.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The gardens are stunning and our room was nice. The communal areas were very comfortable. The staff were super helpful, friendly and professional. We will likely visit again.
Cons: We ate breakfast here every day (8 days) dinner twice and lunch twice and the food was less than exceptional, which is a shame because everything else about the stay was wonderful.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Location and charme, that makes this hotel really unique. Staff is very helpfull and warm, overall wonderful. The breakfast, afternoon thee or a romantic diner; you absolutely must do this in the garden. Where you can feel totally relaxed and cocooned for the otherwise busy and vibrant fuchal.
Cons: Please adjust the airco’s, its a shame to keep them going for the full day, to cool the room. They require a 4hour run to cool a 30m2 room. We recieved two 1-pers beds, placed together. It’s not that comfortable to sleep together that way. But the bed was from good quality as you can expect from a 5star hotel.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: helpful and friendly staff
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Beautiful hotel in amazing location The place to be if you want to relax away from the busy touristic area in Funchal, while being close to the city center. We had our 10 minute walk to Funchal's old town everyday after being served our majestic breakfast on the terrace overlooking Funchal's bay. simply amazing! will be back again and again
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The property is beautiful, clean, comfortable and practical. I wish I could have stayed there longer.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great a la carte breakfast. Lovely spacious and comfortable room with a little kitchenette. Beautiful gardens and views. The staff are very welcoming.
Cons: A swimming pool would've been great. Definitely advisable to have a car, everything is steeply uphill or down hill from there.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This was our second stay at this hotel and we were again not disappointed: great location with parking provided, friendly staff and awesome breakfast - we would strongly recommend it to anyone planning to be in Funchal. For us there will be no other choice when visiting Madeira again.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The best things about this hotel are the staff, the beautiful view and the lovely gardens. Its a small hotel so the staff welcome you and treat you like family. The breakfast is great and there are many comfy spots to sit and just enjoy the surrounding gardens and views. Because of its location on the hill the views from the 2nd floor rooms are fantastic day and night. The downside of the location is the walk back up the hill after you visit the town.
Cons: Two things could be a little better. The mattress and pillows and the wifi.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Lovely boutique hotel in a quiet area near the old town. An easy walk into the old town and the centre of Funchal, but the bus does stop at the door anyway. The area is quiet at night and the rooms have a great view over the town and the distant harbour. The bus in the out of town direction will take you up to the botanic gardens from the hotel gate. The rooms have a kitchenette and there is a basket of supplies to get you started. If you do want breakfast, it can be served on the hotel terrace overlooking the town. There is an underground garage if you have a hire car, which we did not. We used bus and taxi. Lovely staff.
Cons: I really cannot think of anything!

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Fantastic view from the balcony of our 1 bed apartment. Delightful staff. Really enjoyed access to the golf club terrace bar for sunset views. The Palheiro gardens are beautiful.
Cons: Unfortunately the road noise below the apartment is quite loud and takes getting used to.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The view and the nature around it!
Cons: The indoor pool and Restaurant serving breakfast were far away up on the hill! So you definitely need a car which wasn’t easy for us, for using the indoor pool, Spa and especially for having breakfast!!!
Good 6.3
Pros: Nice view. Large apartment. Well equipped.
Cons: View is nice but we were in a front-row apartment right on the main road and this made it noisy. Also, the restaurant for breakfast is far and on a very steep road. This was not obvious from pictures or from the description of the facilities. We did not use the restaurant even once. Not very convenient.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location but need a car or happy to use great bus service! Walking excellent! Shame about the virus! Good luck to all in Madeira!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The accommodations were wonderful! A beautiful 2bdr/2 bath apartment with an ocean view from both bedrooms, the living room and large balcony. Very nice pool, too. We didn’t want to leave!
Cons: Please include instructions for the washing machine! We had to google the brand name to figure out how to start it!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Spacious villa and clean interior.
Cons: There were ants inside the villa. Although there weren’t many there were some in the bed etc which was annoying.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We arrived after office hours and were able to collect keys from the security officer at the front gate with no problems. We loved the Unit(#12). It had everything we needed and had the best view and setup. Cleaning staff were there twice a week and did a great job. The office people were very helpful in answering our questions and setting up some tours.
Cons: The hill to go anywhere on the property. Thankfully we rented a car so this made it much easier on my 84 year old mother. At least we weren't confined. We did use the local transit to go into Funchal and once used the Shuttle. The living room furniture wasn't that comfortable but everything else was fine.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We had the same location like last year except upper apartment. Excellent location for New Years Eve fireworks and fabulous view of Funchal and ocean. Very quiet location.
Cons: The property had everything we wanted. We had free parking for our rental car. All good.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great hostess - worked to make a chatty atmosphere and introduce guests to one another
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Lovely place with character, fantastic views down to Funchal and out to sea. Breakfast on the terrace, continental plus, plus served to you individually. Pool for warm weather, very peaceful, apart from the budgies ha-ha. Lovely garden to sit in, most days open as cafe, great sandwiches, chips and homemade cake. It's the sort of place where you feel comfortable, a real home from home, with the manager Stefania going out of her way to make you feel comfortable and do whatever required to help you relax, or find a mislaid passports and wallets etc. Was there for the new year's eve and all guests were given a bottle of cava and a box of chocolates, nice touch, also the fireworks are truly amazing!
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.0
Pros: A lovely place, run very well by friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is very good and there is a great bakery nearby. There is quite a steep walk to the city centre however there are regular cheap buses that run close to the hotel. There is a pool and very well kept gardens-also. Most of the guests were regulars which speaks for itself.
Cons: Everything was fine.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: It was very clean and the Lady was very friendly!!
Cons: The bed was too hard.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Beautiful garden and location.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Another wonderful stay again
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Charming property nice firm bed. Excellent breakfast everything very relaxed and stress free. Great value for money
Cons: It is on a steep hill but it is Funchal and there’s a good bus service.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The price. The scenic and private outdoor area. The complementary Chocolates and sparkling wine. The restaurant recommended by the hotel owner.
Cons: The shower was a bit primitive and the water tepid. The bed was a little hard.

Good 7.0
Pros: Great location, lovely place overall.
Cons: The room is difficult to access. There are better room options on the levels above which will give you a great view and more space.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I loved my stay here in this Portuguese mansion. The view was absolutely stunning! I found it hard to leave my room as I just loved being there so much. I was in the Grandafther room and had every thing I needed- a lot of space, kettle for tea, fridge, large bathroom. This is a great option for a simple, clean, mid-range boutique hotel with character and charm.
Cons: Everything was great. I’m a light sleeper and thought that it might be noisy in the old town, but it wasn’t. I slept well here.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Wonderful room with an excellent views both at the ocean and at the church. I was a dream to wake up in the morning in that beautiful place.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The owners are very nice. The house and the room was lovely and we had a great view from our balcony. It is very central but still quiet.
Cons: Everything was perfect :)
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Warmly Welcome from Cinzia and Joe. Good Breakfast, special wishes were satisfied. Parking place in front of the house. Nice balkony. We got recommendations for restaurants and they also made a reservation for us. Thanks for everything we had a nice stay.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Location and beautiful view from our tower room. We sat with a glass of wine and watched sunsets, boats in the harbour. mountains and the ocean. Honesty like being on top of the world. The nicest people run this guesthouse. We felt like old friends by the time we left. Breakfast was good, always with the offer to cook egg, bacon, sausage. Porridge even. And the wood baked bread is incredible. Candice the dog is a special treat for daily pats.
Cons: We had the best time in Maderia. Perhaps the towels need refreshing.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Pretty much everything! Don’t expect Reids or Savoy luxury, but expect nice rooms, many with views, great ambiance, a building with real character, freshness, cleanliness and genuinly friendly and helpful people. The manager Cinzia, the owner Grace, and not forgetting Candy (the dog), really made a difference. Eggs Benedict in the morning - no problem! The excellent Old Town/Zona Velha location with lots of bars and restaurants all around. Close to Barreirinha as well as the cable cars. The exquisite sea and bay views from my Tower room. Etc. etc.
Cons: Nothing that made any difference to me. The room’s fridge compressor is a bit noisy. The Wc/shower inside the bedroom is not my cup of tea, although it is partly enclosed, and clean and fresh.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I just want to mention what l think makes a difference too. English American TV channels. If you are not from the south of Europe. Location. I have been staying long term on Madeira. Well for months. During other holidays. The location in my book is perfect. Location of this hotel / guest house. Nice rooms. The budget room is fine. The other rooms in my book is great. They have cared about their rooms. I borrow the kitchen. To prepare dinner. So there is room for all kind of travellers. Nice English speaking staff. I really enjoyed my stay. I am Danish so my English is far from perfect. Perfect a word used a lot in Portugal.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: The hotel is exceptional, spotlessly clean, beautiful interior, they upgraded us to a great room with views over Funchal. We were there only 4 nights which are definitely not enough, so much to see and do. Breakfast was really good!!, except for the coffee.
Cons: The hotel is at the furthest point on the west that you see from Funchal. You need the shuttle bus to get down to town centre and it only sets off at 1000, 1200 & 1500. It is booked up most of the time. 4 of us paid 2 euros each way twice a day, expensive at end of stay. It's also a white knuckle ride down, the drivers must have been formula 1 drivers to get the job. Absolutely brilliant views though.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great facilities, warm personnel.
Cons: Slow Internet connection.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: The location of the hotel is good to explore the island, nearby you can find Continente supermarket. The cleanliness of the room is also good (Im writing about modern building above the restaurant). The personal is very good. Recommend 100%.
Cons: We booked the family quadruple room with the bay view and Funchal city view, but we got the room where the view was to the wall... Room number was 308... You need a car to go around, because the hotel is about 7 km from the city center, if you dont have a car, the hotel haves their own bus that runs several times through out the day to Funchal center. And It is impossible to walk around the hotel, because it is situated on the road and there is no sidewalk on this road and usually local drivers drive too fast... very dangerous...
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Perfect location with a great view over the Funchal bay. We enjoyed the beautiful garden, swimming pool, and a sauna. Very nice staff, perfect service, good dinner in the hotel restaurant. Even though the place is a bit far from the city center of Funchal, it is accessible by a public bus or a shuttle bus.
Good 7.0
Pros: Everything was organized and clear. Room was clean and kept up well. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Big fan of the breakfast as well as the top floor terrace and pool. Depending on what room you have there is a great view on the city of Funchal and the sea next to it.
Cons: I really disliked how noisy the room was. I could hear everything outside and it became apparent the hotel is located right next to a pretty busy street. There were multiple dogs barking literally non-stop which kept me from sleeping properly. Other than that I would have liked to be able to do some things in the hotel room, like make tea. Instead of having to go to the restaurant/bar for everything.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Fantastic location. Exceptional cleanliness.
Cons: Its not complaint, just suggestion that heated swimming pool could turn this place into a paradise on earth. May be in future...:)

Pros: Fantastic through & through, the view was amazing, all the staff were very friendly & helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay and their service felt very personal. Mirrors were a nice touch and the garden was insane!! Room was modern, clean and beautiful. The spa facilities were great and it was good to be able to unwind after a day of many activities. The free shuttle was quite handy although we had no problem walking to town either as it’s a very pretty & scenic place even though it’s steep
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Beautiful view over the city from our very comfortable room. Really lovely dinner and breakfast as well.
Cons: We had a hard time with the key cards to our room. They must have tried 30 different cards to get us into the room which took a considerable amount of time at check-in.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything was great, planning to return! Viktor at the front desk was so accommodating and helpful
Cons: Nothing. Everything was wonderful.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Great time! thanks to the professionalism and friendliness of the Sisters at reception Nice room ! Great view
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The view, breakfast&dinner, the team
Excellent 9.2
Pros: People working are very polite and friendly, breakfast is great, design is stylish, all was clean and comfortable.
Cons: Jacuzzi was not working that day in SPA, however Turkish bath was good and it kinda compensated it.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Bedroom, Breakfast room , Terrace views and Swimming Pool Service by Angela at Front Desk, Daniel and Marco in the restaurant and manager Paulo.
Cons: Fast speed Baskets speeding past the entrance. Every day was a different route on Google Maps - avoid GPS navigation.

Excellent 8.0
Pros: Veronica, the manager, was exceptionally helpful.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great place to stay, it is a lovely small hotel with helpful and caring receptionists. I’ve got an upgrade into the suite and had a very lucky stay in Funchal.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Excellent location - very central and convenient and not noisy in February - not sure what it would be like in height of summer though Balcony was good though one door didn't lock and shutters very tight. Bathroom and shower very comfortable.
Cons: more variety with the breakfast - I don't eat meat so the same cheese slice on a bread roll every day lost its appeal after a couple of days.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Breakfast was good, service was excellent. Reception staff were very helpful.
Cons: The pillows. You need to replace them with new ones.
Good 6.7
Pros: Good part of Funchal. Main hotel building is lovely.
Cons: Noisy location but otherwise very good small hotel. The main hotel might be quieter but we were in a separate building directly above busy restaurants.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Close to all of old town and sires.
Cons: Couple minor issues but we were very happy
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Cleanliness, staff and location were great. Nice big bedroom and bathroom.
Cons: Room needed blackout curtains and there was no view. Was very noisy on Friday and Saturday nights.
Excellent 9.0
Cons: Bedroom in separate annexe 100,+ mtrs from hotel

Pros: Authentic B and B very clean
Cons: No complaints lovely friendly staff, very welcoming
Excellent 9.0
Pros: The owner of our accommodation was friendly, easy-going and helpful person who knows how to do his job. He offered us a nice cozy room facing to the street in an old Portuguese style. All the staff was really neat to us. I would gladly recommend to book with them.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great location and very friendly staff , easy reach for bus station and promenade.
Cons: The pillows could be a little hard .
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Wonderful hosts and a lovely room. The Horta family was gracious and kind and bent over backwards to help us navigate Funchal and Madeira, including arranging last-minute transportation. The room was clean and perfect for our needs.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Very comfy bed, great location, amazing view! This is a good option for a simple, comfortable affordable hotel. Friendly and helpful staff who also do tours. I’d happily stay here again.
Cons: Maybe the pillows? But in saying that I did sleep for 9 hours straight!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location. Sufficient breakfast. Friendly service. Especially the help to park the car!
Cons: Pretty low pressure of cold water made showering really tricky.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Excellent location near the restaurants in old Town. Spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed. The Hortas are very accommodating in helping to make my stay in Funchal excellent. The Pensao has heaps of character. Good value.
Cons: Nothing
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Beautiful old historical home, very quiet. Fresh flower arrangements displayed everywhere. The owners are lovely warm people who really want to make sure you enjoy your stay. Our room was spotlessly clean with a great view. Breakfast is served in the traditional way with many fresh made choices. It is very easy to find if you are driving and they provide safe, free parking which is difficult to find in Funchal. The location in the old part of the city is within walking distance of everything. It was our first time in Madeira and if we return it will be to Mirasol.
Cons: Nothing,

Pros: Beautiful gardens and the view from the room is amazing. The room is also very spacious.
Cons: The rooms (especially the carpet) and the pool area need to be updated. Food quality could be improved...
Okay 5.5
Pros: The hotel has a certain charm, related to the history (the common part in the ancient villa), view from Monte on the ocean and Funchal, the gardens and the large part of the staff.
Cons: The hotel equipment is poorly maintained, not renewed, the noise from the lift motor in the neighboring rooms terrible. Pigeons make balcony every morning so dirty, that it cannot be used. Breakfast offering and organization have a lot of room for improvement.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Spacious bedroom and bathroom with a great view. The garden was absolute lovely. Great to have the tropical garden and cable car so close by.
Cons: We thought the in house restaurant was a bit overpriced.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Restaurant a la carte very good. Extensive gardens well cared for.
Cons: At the breakfast buffet the hot selection was barely warm.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: It was a terrific location. Close to the cable car and mountains. The hotel was very clean. Breakfast was included and very tasty. Front desk staff very helpful.
Cons: 1. Low-quality coffee. 2. Mediocre to Bad WiFi in an otherwise great hotel might have kept them from a 5 out of 5 rating.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Quiet hotel, beautiful gardens, elegant furnishings, library with books in English to read. Lovely Views. Helpful reception staff. Good value. Very good restaurant 5 mins away in Babosas.
Cons: No fresh coffee, only instant. No tea/coffee in bedrooms. No bar staff. No internet in bedrooms. Very steep up and down to nearest cafes and restaurants, bus stops and attractions. 4c colder than Funchal centre, 550m below.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: The size of the rooms and the views from the balconies attached to the rooms
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Views were great, it was a close walk to downtown but far enough away for peace and quiet. Lots of food options within a 5 minute walk. There was a lovely church and bell tower in front of the hotel that complimented the view. Breakfast was top notch. Hotel was very nice! Would highly recommend.
Cons: Room was slightly warm even with air conditioning running
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Fell in love with this hotel & location, the quaint church we could see from our room with balcony sea view which chimed every hour, being a former manor house with original period features...loved the chandeliers in the dining area. Staff were friendly & helpful, great breakfast & evening meal. Beautiful well kept gardens & pool area..I can't praise this hotel enough. Tip ...our mattress was hard so asked for a mattress topper which made it nice and comfy.
Cons: Love this hotel & location, unfortunately when we arrived we were told our room was double booked, we were offered their sister hotel Quinta das Vistas a 5 star which we would have definitely not chosen because of location & not the sort of hotel we would chosen, the hotel was also dead at night. We were given a suite which was great but didn't compensate us at all even with a free evening meal with one glass of house wine which wasn't good, the only choice we had with the 3 course meal was mains meat or fish. We had to put in a voucher for our meal so immediately felt like paupers! The location of the hotel was not suitable for walking to or from the town due to very steep roads with no footpaths so had to use taxi's, we are both in our 60s. We were very upset & this had ruined our holiday. After 3/4 emails complaining we eventually were offered the room of our choice at Quinta Bela Sao Tiago, after they had offered us free taxi's & a massage at the 5 * but we just wanted to stay in the hotel we had booked which is such a lovely period hotel. I initially agreed to this then burst into tears as this still didn't compensate us for the hotel we had chosen,, this was our first visit to Madeira we were so looking forward to visiting the beautiful island & especially being in a hotel within walking distance to the old town. They shouldn't treat people like this, the whole experience was very upsetting.
Good 7.5
Pros: Lovely staff at check in. Very helpful. Nice pool. Cheap cocktails.
Cons: We had cockroaches in our room and it was treated as if this was normal in Madeira.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Nice big rooms and balcony.
Cons: Smoking is allowed on balcony, both sides to us smoked and we had their horrid smoke!
Excellent 8.0
Pros: We really enjoyed our stay at at hotel Quinta Bela Sio Tiago. It was well situated with views over the harbour from the sun terrace and caught the sun from mid morning to sunset. Wheel of the breakfasts and the opportunity to to sit outside afterwards with a glass of sparkling wine. The library was a welcome feature and and there is an atmosphere of peace and tranquility at this hotel.
Cons: The swimming pool was a little cool if cold. It was however lovely warm week so it helped cool down but I'm not sure if the promised heating was available. The undercroft parking area was a little tight to manoeuvre in... but there again I needed parking practice!!

Pros: The price was OK for a short stay and it was close to the centre and the habour.
Cons: Older interior, small breakfast, not very friendly staff at the reception
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Budget room for budget price. Double bed. Bathroom. A kinda balcony but not one that lest the sun in. But nice to just open the window and sit there. Room was cleaned daily. All staff were fantastic. Bar was super cheap. Old town is much better than were all the resorts are. Breakfast was basic butfine for me to start the day. Would recommend and will stay again for sure. Thanks.
Cons: Nothing.

Mediocre 2.0
Pros: The price is really good.
Cons: We spend 3 nights in the hotel in January. The first night there was a guy he was completely crazy and was screaming all night and broke some glasses, plates... so we didn't sleep at all. The rooms are really humid. And my bank account was debited 2 time for the price so I ask for the reimbursement and after one month and 7 e-mails I am still waiting for the payment....
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Very scenic, very friendly staff amazing vibes
Cons: 25 minuted walk to down town
Good 6.0
Pros: Was 2 nights. Yes, you have poor breakfast. Location is not bad if you have a car. There is one big share living room with TV so can hear permanent noise from there, even 22, 23, 24 hours. We slept in down floor, so room is dark. You can find 3 bathrooms. One thing I liked is small terrace in outside near fields of bananas.
Cons: Very uncomfortable bed, dark room and noisy place. The room is not actually private because when you go out, you must pass another two-bed room. Of course, more inconveniences is for shared room, not yours.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Out of the busy area of the town, quiet, kitchen to use
Cons: Ø
Good 7.0
Pros: There is a cozy patio, coffee machine. For its price, the normal option for one night.
Cons: There was no administrator, the guest helped us to chechk-in. No chairs or hooks for clothes.
Poor 1.0
Pros: The Hostel itself is cheep but nice.
Cons: the real trouble was the guy named Kai... This guy who was telling us that he is responsible for a hostel, that he has to show us a hostel and welcome us there etc. He is an alcoholic who really destroy the hostel. If I will be the owner of the hostel, I will fire this man out of my property in one second. He really spoil our stay! He was drinking till 4am, aroun 3:30am made a fight with onother guy. No way. At the morning the other people said, that this place was nice, but this guy is real disaster. Terible!
Good 6.0
Pros: This is an excellent value for money if you have a car or are happy to walk or take the bus, as it is not in the centre (and Funchal's roads are steep). Staff are nice, the view from the patio is stunning and it is lovely to read a book/drink a coffee there. It is a big house converted into hostel. It is basic but has all that it needs. Bring earplugs. Breakfast is ok. Wifi was working and so was the warm shower. People kept banging the main door at night - but that is not an issue with the owners...
Cons: Despite the description on bookong.com, the hostel does not offer free parking. It is parking on the side of the road, and yes it is free, but you may not find a spot. Nevertheless I was lucky and I always found a spot. The matress was not very comfortable and the bed made a lot of noise each time I moved. I tried to move at least as possible but maybe it is something that can be addressed. The lock on the main door was not working. Funchal is safe, though. The bathroom and kitchen were often out of toilet paper, kitchen towel or soap. Some of the handles (common room and bathroom) are broken and may result in making unwanted noise. Breakfast was not ready at 8.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I really liked this hostel, therefore I spent approximately 1/2 of my stay there. It has everything you need. The hostel is spacious, the kitchen is well equipped, in the garden you can relax on one of the sunbeds and on a clear night you can observe the stars. It is not in the city centre, therefore the area surrounding the hostel is really quite. The personnel is kind, friendly and helpful! For this price it is amazing! And breakfast included :) I felt at home in it.
