Best Western Plus La Demeure

As it was the rugby in Paris, hotel rooms were very hard to come by and this hotel looked like it would provide the right balance of location/comfort. However, I must say that I have stayed in cheaper hotels in Paris, which are better located, and have been on a similar comfort/star level. I speak fluent French and I have lived in France before and I would say that the staff were helpful and only averagely friendly.

The rooms at the front were a bit noisy, despite good double glazing. Some of the bedrooms are decorated in a very cold and unwelcoming blue colour, from the late 1980s and could do with an update. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as there is a bar (turn left out of the hotel) 100 yards away that does a good breakfast for euro5 as apposed to the hotel's beakfast euro13. A word of warning to anyone taking taxis: if you order one via reception in the hotel, the taxi will start it's meter from where ever it receives the call from the hotel.....so if it is 10 minutes away, when it pulls up to pick you up, it may have as much euro10 already on the meter!! I questioned the driver and that was his explanation. The trip from the hotel to the Gare du Nord cost euro18 and should have been more like euro8. It is better to hail a taxi from the street than call one via reception. The location was OK but I have stayed in better value hotels in better locations.

The room is clean, comfortable and in nice place.

The bathroom is small.

The staff were excellent: very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was pretty good and they have a good range of daily newspapers. It is in a great location too: you can get everywhere very easily either by walking or the Metro. And there are stacks of very good restaurants within 10 mins walk. Some reviews mention the noise at the front of the hotel, but we didn't notice this at all.

The room we had was fine: very clean. The only slightly odd thing was one section of wall being covered with cloth that was stapled on.
