Beyt Al Salaam

Having seen the standard double rooms they are not worth the money and do not look like advertised. However the superior rooms are gorgeous - huge rooms with a comfy bed and big bathroom. A sofa and tv and plenty of room to relax. They are clean and the location is amazing for Stone Town. You can walk across the road to the beach and pay to use another hotel pool. Break fast is not a strong point - not buffet style and the slightly greasy cooked breakfast gets served on a small plate?! I loved the room we had so would come back if they could guarantee this one - the one my friend had I would not return for.

The only downside - it seems the hotel is over booking rooms. We were asked to go to another hotel for the first night and pay for it! It was very substandard and inconvenient. The same thing has happened to two of my friends on two separate occasions at this hotel and they send you to different places in stone town! Other hotels told us that this hotel appears on too many sites and therefore gets overbooked for a small 11 room hotel. The hotel has a spa attached so the manager throws in a 30 minute massage to make up for the inconvenience. I would be very upset if I had travelled from far to be put somewhere else. It cannot be a coincidence this is happening consistently over time.
