Pros: I was happy to have a rental car with unlimited miles
Cons: I didn't like we were encourage to take the toll road for an extra cost when it wasn't needed to reach my destination. I wasn't happy I was told gas was cheaper with rental company only to learn it was not prorated on what I used. The vehicle was upgraded not by my choice but due to what was available but I was charged for it. The wait time for an advantage bus at the airport took 20 mins

Didn't complete the rental
Cons: There was a 2+ hour wait line that only grew longer(literally wrapping around the building) as we arrived at the agency. They had clearly over-booked their fleet and were turning out new rentals at the rate that cars were coming back in. We walked to the neighboring Dollar and got gouged on rate rather than wait 2+ hours their line with our young children.

Worst Experience Ever
Pros: Liked when it was over. Even willing to pay the extra unexplained charges just so we didn't have to deal with them anymore.
Cons: We literally didn't like anything. Terrible customer service. The salesperson tried to screw us over with charges we didn't understand and he became aggressive when we sought an explanation.

Pros: I was given a new car, which was excellent. And the value for the money is great.
Cons: They marked the car as full, but really it only had 7/8 of a tank of gas - and that was with only 6 miles on the car! I asked them to fill it up before I left and they politely did it, but I see in other reviews that this is a common practice. That is not ethical.

Pros: Shuttle was waiting at the airport when we arrived and promptly took us to get our rental car. The staff was great and after talking to the attendant about where we were going in the mountains he recommended upgrading to an AWD v6 instead of the full size car. Good thing he did because it came in really handy. He also worked to get me as many discounts as he could and since I am only 24 he did as much as he could to work the price to make it affordable. The car was great, nothing fancy but it was new (less then 1500 miles) and clean and never had any issues with it.
Cons: If you book through a third party you can not get any discounts through the rental company. Call and check with them for the price before you book.

Pros: They were helpful in extending the lease for one additional day, keeping the rate the same. When I had an issue with the invoice, I mentioned the issue in the feedback form and they resolved it for me. The upgrade was nice.
Cons: I wish I hadn't had the invoice issue to begin with. The counter staff said if I brought the car back with a full tank my pre-paid fuel fee would be returned, but after I dropped the car off they did not give me a refund until I complained in the feedback form. Communication with this specific rental car location (DIA) was impossible as they were never on the phone.
Pros: Absolutely perfect experience with Fox in Denver. I've had plenty of bad rental experiences, and this was a breath of fresh air. Clean, beautiful car, and great, fast service!
Cons: Nothing at all.

Would never use them again. One and done
Pros: Employees are great and are obviously embarrassed by some of their companies policies.
Cons: The car they had me assigned to was badly damaged on all 4 sides. It had been sideswiped at some point and had additional scrapes and dents everywhere. If I wanted a different one I would have to clear the 2 feet of snow myself! They charge $15.00 PER TOLL PLAZA if you don't buy their toll package up front (12.00/ day)for ALL the days of your rental. Most people wouldn't drive on a toll road every day! The car had a half a tank of gas. Agent scribbled it on my contract. When i went to return it there was a hassle. They charge $150.00 deposit to your credit card when you rent; won't be returned until 3-5 days after you return. Finally, this car had bald tires on it. Denver had just recorded 2 feet of snow. I picked it up late at night and didn't realize they were that bad. I will NEVER ever rent from them again!

Cons: After catching the shuttle from the airport to the Fox Rental Center, I had to wait in line for 45 min to do the paperwork, and then another 45 in standing outside while they "finished" with my car in the wash bay. There were lots of others outside waiting too. The car itself had lots of scratches and the front grate was missing.
I went back 2 days later to add my husband as a second driver after he flew in and had to wait another 45 min.

Fox uses old wore out cars.
Cons: Car was not even clean or washed between rentals and had no windshield washer fluid. I had to keep stopping and getting a handful of snow to wash the windshield until we could get to an exit with services.

Long wait to pick up
Pros: Car was fine. Missing some trim over rear window but who cares it's a rental car. Price was great. Drop off went smoothly.
Cons: Waited about an hour. Only 5 people in line ahead of me. Lady at the counter tried to sell me an electronic tollike plan for $12 a day claiming some roads don't accept cash. Map of toll roads showed I 70 requires toll to use which isn't true. There are tolls for the express lane but the map made it appear that I 70 was impassable without paying a toll. Windshield washer fluid and wipers were of poor quality.
Cons: KAYAK must have switched the pick up location from Denver International to downtown Denver. I discovered this the day before I was to travel.
Since it was through KAYAK, I was not able to switch the reservation to Denver airport.
This caused terrible delays across the board picking up the car, as well as a $50 penalty to drop off at the airport.
KAYAK was a total FAIL.

Cons: Man said our car wasn't there, we were 15 minutes late so he pushed us out the door, said he had no cars they were out for maintenance despite several cars in the lot. One hour later, we could see the man still in the store across the street from the doughnut shop. Will never use enterprise or kayak for car rental again. We never got a car. We got terrible service. And several days after calling corporate, they still haven't replied. Our entire day was ruined.

Uber/lyft too expensive
Pros: Ride was cheaper than at the airport. They did have the truck I reserved.
Cons: Uber/lyft rides to and from the airport were too expensive to make it worth while. $87 one way, and enterprise said it would be $100 to just drop off the car at the airport. Should have just saved some time by doing that. Or found regular taxi rates.

Refused to rent me my car.
Cons: My drivers license has abbreviated first name because my name is too long for New York State to print it on my license. I had secondary ID in the form of a passport. The woman refused to rent me my vehicle. Refused to put me as a driver on the vehicle when my girlfriend was forced to rent the vehicle. She then tried to sell my girlfriend all this additional insurance that we had already paid for and then instantly took it off when I confronted her about it. She was nasty and unwilling to help. Never again.

Ask for Megan at the S. Broadway store
Pros: There were a couple of timing issues with our vehicle, but sometimes that's the name of the game. In my opinion, issues happen, but it's how you fix them that matters most.
Megan is the manager of the S. Broadway store and she was extremely helpful and kind. She did every single thing in her power to get us on the road in a better vehicle than we paid for, at a discounted rate. I appreciated her understanding and overall customer service and it will make me a return customer to her store.

Cons: We reserved a pickup a week in advance. The morning of they called an said they didn't have a pickup but they had a large SUV but when we got there they sent us to another location where they didn't have anything that would work. We were moving out of state an this caused extreme issues.

Good Car, Mediocre Service
Pros: I was on my way pretty quickly. The car was fairly new and it worked very well.
Cons: While I was literally in the middle of going through my information with the clerk, someone walks in the door and he starts taking her information!
There was a fairly obvious issue with the bumper of my car that the clerk who helped me did not document on the rental agreement. When I returned the car off to a different location, the clerk who received it took issue with this defect.

Cons: HORRIBLE. Enterprise called me on Friday to confirm that I still wanted my car and continued to talk to me about how lucky I am that my car is ready because there was hail storm Friday that damaged their cars. When I landed Saturday I had a voicemail that said my car was no longer there because of a hail storm that damaged 4,000 of their cars. Two hail in two days seems very very unlikely, especially because no other cars in the surrounding area were damaged and no one else said that there was a hail storm the night before. The other people we spoke with knew nothing of a hail storm. I had to rent a car for TWICE as much because Enterprise had "no cars" I assume they double booked and gave away my reserved card. I am asking Enterprise to make up the difference in what I paid.
Cons: Took a while for the shuttle to come get us, other than that no issues

Pros: The car ran well and gave me no problems. The service was quick.
Cons: No one walked out with me to the car to inspect it. When I returned the car, it was discovered I had been driving the whole time with the spare tire on the driver's front right. I had not noticed that upon pick up. Also the car was not washed when I got it, but I didn't say anything.
I did not have a flat tire or any problem with the car, used only 1/2 tank of gas. I will not pay for the flat tire -- I know nothing about that.

Pros: The service staff at the pick-up office was very helpful and considerate seeing that they had to make the best of a bad situation. The price was cheap compared to all other available rentals and they were the only one that had the van we needed.
Cons: Not sure if it was kayak or EZ car but we made a reservation and EZ car could find no record of the reservation even though they had charged our credit card. So we remade the reservation and were charged again. A month later we are still trying to remove the first charge.
The cars to choose from were both very dirty and filled with trash. We chose the one with chocolate smudges over the one that smelled like vomit. The headlights aimed up so we couldn't see the mountain roads at night. The brakes were better at shaking the car than stopping the car.

Cons: Because I have a California ID, and I was renting in California, they made me buy full coverage for the car, even though I already have my own insurance. This more than doubled the cost of the rental. They also put a 150 mile cap on daily mileage, which means road trips are out of the question. What BS.
I regularly rent from Hertz, Fox, and Dollar and they all offer similar rates but don't discriminate against in state renters and don't force you to buy insurance or limit your mileage.

Cons: I was driving 15-16:hours when I went to use the radio it did not work. When I stopped for fuel I realized I had no antenna. Not happy so I started calling numbers and they were all closed. 2 nd thing was check in talking to an agent by phone trying to upsell me and was not good customer service. Using old telephone handsets is a joke. They can't at least get a modern lighter version to try and hold while inserting credit cards etc. I also swear the insurance keeps getting more expensive every time and is more than the rental which is a joke.

Poor service all around
Pros: nothing, set me behind by two hours and didn't even end up renting a car for them.
Cons: Absolutely the rudest service employees I've ever encountered. Also, they have a hard time processing credit cards apparently. Went to Avis and no problems and amazing customer service.
Cons: I rented a car from Payless on 2 occasions in Denver airport in April. After I picked up, the 1st time, I noticed that the final charges were substantially higher than what my email confirmation had said. When I called back, I found out that the "road recovery fee" was optional. The agent had not even asked if I wanted this or not; she simply added it to my charges, which increased the total substantially. The agent over the phone rectified the error but it was a hassle having to call. Then, just a few days ago, I rented another car at Payless Denver airport, and the agent this time told me that since I have an int'l. drivers license, I had to pay $15.95 per day more to cover liability, even though I said my credit card covered all insurance. He said it was required; that he could not rent me the car unless I paid. Later, when I called back to speak to a manager at Payless, they said that is not true, and deducted those charges for me. The manager there also told me that the agents receive a commission on total sales so there is an incentive to lie to increase the total amount of the rentals. She also gave me a discount, for my trouble in having to go back in to close out that rental and do a new one, w/ correct charges. That was nice of her but both experiences have left me angry and amazed that Payless employees are routinely fraudulently misrepresenting charges to get a higher total, and more commission. I am thinking about reporting these practices to the CO Attorney General's office, consumer protection division. And I will never rent from Payless again.

Cost more then stated online
Pros: Onine it said my total charge including fees and Sur charges. Then when I got to the counter he said there is a mandatory $15 insurance charge by the state of Colorado. I told him my insurance covers that, he said no it does not and I have to pay. I think it must have been $15 a day which he did not say that because my total charge was $168. Online my total charge was $108. If there was a State law that says we need to pay for insurance that is already covered by my insurance and the credit card I'm paying with, it should be stated before we purchase the car to rent not when we get to the counter.

Cons: I was overall disappointed with my car rental experience. I received an online quote for my reservation, only to find my total was doubled when I got to Payless due to extra charges and hidden fees. I could have gotten a much better price from a more reputable rental company had I known all the fees that would be added on. I felt swindled the entire time, I did not want the insurance but it ended up getting added on anyways without my knowledge. The agent I worked with was pushing every additional charge on me and it was very overwhelming and I was not being listened to. The car was fine, but not worth the outrageous price. Finally, when it came to returning the car we ended up waiting 20 minutes for a shuttle due to the fact that they only had one running to and from the airport (I saw at least 10 from Avis and Budget go by in that time). Disappointing and unsatisfactory service, I will never rent from Payless again and I suggest no one else does either.

Cons: We waited at the airport curb for 20 minutes for the van to take us to the check-in office and pick-up office. We watched the other rental company vans come and go several times over before the Payless shuttle arrived. We became so frustrated that we went over to the driver of another company's shuttle to ask him if this was typical. He said that, while the other companies have 10-15 shuttles for picking up customers, Payless has 2 or 3. Then, upon arriving at the check-in office, there were 2 representatives behind the desk for checking people in, and the line had about 20 customers ahead of us. Thus, from the time we arrived curbside to get the shuttle to the time we were in our rental car, was about an hour.

Cons: The drop off in Aspen had no customer service people for ANY of the rental agencies and was not well marked and confusing. The "drop-box" location was in the arrivals section of the airport rather than the departure section. Very odd. This is more of a negative to the airport than to any one rental agency.

Did not expect the truck to be so comfortable.
Pros: I reserved a 4 door pick up truck and expected a half ton. The truck that was available was a HD three quarter ton 4 wheel drive pick up. I was skeptical but it turned out to be a comfortable, smooth running vehicle.
Cons: The vehicle was a little big for in town driving and the gas mileage was a little low but not as bad as I thought it could have been.

Tried to sign us up for something we did not want

Cons: The agent signed us up for "Fast Break" without our permission. He also added a 29.99 dollar a day charge without our permission. When we returned the car, my husband noticed the charges were double. We asked the manager to reverse the extra charges and he refused. It was only when he was told we would dispute the charge with Visa and asked for his name did he back down. Will never rent from Budget again

Cons: Waiting for over an hour to get the car.
Front desk staff and staff getting/delivering cars were not working together - to quote them "we have no idea what happens in there." The line to get a car took forever to get through despite 6 people working at the desk. It seems Budget needs to work on it’s check-in system to make it move faster. Once I got to the front, I had to give all my information to the clerk despite having entered it online. Once all the paperwork was complete (which took about 20 mins) I then waited another 15 mins for him to get me keys. I was then told to go out front and the car would be brought to me. I waited outside for 15 mins and no car was delivered. Meanwhile we watched other people walk directly to their cars and leave. Finally I asked one of the staff outside if someone was getting my car - to which we were told “we don’t know”. Finally someone got a manager for us and even then it took another 10 mins to get the car. I did not want to spend over an hour (80-90 mins) renting a car. We had plans and they were delayed because of this poor check out system. I will not use Budget car rental in Denver again because of this experience.

How much time do you want to spend to rent a car?
Pros: The car was comfortable, clean, and great value for money.
Cons: The amount of time it took the bus to come was close to 20 minutes, fast break was closed, the exit from the lot took 5 minutes to clear the final gate because of manual entry. It was almost an hour from the time I picked up my bags to get the rental car and get out of the airport.

no thread on tires, while we upgraded to a 4x4 for
Cons: sales lady behind the counter upsold us to a 4x4 as we explained we're going to the mountains. she said "you'll be send back down the mountain" & "you need a 4x4 up there". The price per day went from 160 to 90, and then to 70 p/d for the upgrade so in total for two days we paid more than 600 for a nissan rogua with awd. shame, i would have preferred renting from hertz for points etc.
first, i had read the weather forecast correctly and we never needed 4x4 as the roads were super clean.
my reason for the poor rating: the car tires had no thread so for those few parts of mountain road (to and from restaurant etc.) it was a bit sketchy. Point being: they upsold us to a 4x4 for the snow, but the tires were like slicks = not braking power in the mountains. not going back to dollar. jokers. i would have been happier with a small front wheel drive with tires that actually had thread so we could brake safely.

Pros: THEY WILL CHARGE YOU MORE THAN THEY SHOULD. I suppose they got me like the rest of these reviewers. When I asked about tolls (since DIA is surrounded by toll roads) they simply said that I would receive a bill in the mail for the electronic tolls and made no mention of a toll plan or anything of the like. I received a bill in the mail later with my $20 in tolls with an additional $90 'administrative fee.' After several calls and 5 transfers, they lowered the 'administrative fee' to $45.
All of that to say, rent here if you would like to be surprised by how much you pay and be treated like you're a pain.

Pros: The minivan was ok
Cons: The pickup process was interminable. The guy kept trying sell me insurance.
The price was very high $150/day and ONLY a minivan was available.
The checkout process took a long time to leave the lot.
Drop off was slow.
I paid a premium price for a mediocre product and very poor service
Pros: Customer service was great. Car pick up and drop off quick and easy.
Cons: The car I selected was great with exception of the defroster, it was working properly. Other than that it was great.

Cons: Didn't find out until we got to desk that the car we booked did not meet the "traction laws" for Colorado I70! Had to upgrade to an SUV at 250$ increase. Plus the SUV was had dirty windows, bald tires, and smelled like smoke. This will be the last time we rent from Thrifty. Only reason I give it 2 stars was b/c the counter guys "knocked-off" 125$ from the cost...still not worth it

Pros: Car was clean and still had the "new car" feel.
Cons: Always surprised how underpowered "intermediate" cars are. Drove over Loveland and Vail passes and the car stayed around 4,000 RPMs or more until going down hill.
Thrifty proudly told me I could select any car in the "intermediate" size row but there was only one car to choose from when I went out to select my car.

Pros: Appreciated the clean, nice, new rig.
Cons: Did not appreciate the overwhelming odor of fabric freshener used to cover up the previous renter's smoker's odor. I used the truck to hunt, so that was a terrible issue and there was only this truck to rent, no other option...

Be careful in Denver!
Cons: I was charged almost twice the price of my quoted rental because the agent at the counter was to busy messaging on his phone. When I called thrifty to discuss they were extremely rude and dismissive.

Dissapointed wiht the overall experience
Pros: The girls at the drop off made it very fast and efficient.
Cons: The "mid-size" SUV was actually a small SUV so I feel the value was not there. The car was not the cleanest I have seen from other rental car companies. Also, there was a cigarette burn/hole in the driver's seat.

Great except for long wait at pickup
Pros: The type of car I needed was available, and nearly new. Drop off was a breeze.
Cons: Waited in a slow line for pickup. The counter had ten positions but only two people working.

Cons: Location was closed during normal business hours at beginning of rental (Dollar location next door handled the rental as best they could). The location was open but no personnel available upon return again during normal business hours). The building -oddly enough was open but no one was behind counters and the building had only a few lights on. The shuttle driver said "just leave the car , they will come by later." So we did. Car itself was fine.

Feel ripped off
Cons: Dropped the car off with a full tank of gas but discovered an extra $18 charge for "fuel" added onto my final bill. Reading the reviews now, apparently this is a common tactic by Thrifty.
Cons: The car I was given failed to start the morning I needed to take it to an event. I had to call a car service. When I came back to the hotel and called roadside assistance, they wouldn't send me a new car and all the local places where they said I could return it for a new car were closed until the next day. Roadside assistance on the phone hung up on me before the call was over, but they did send someone. They were supposed to come within an hour, but then the notification I had said 1.5 hours. They jump started the car and it worked. I ran it for 45 minutes (the guy said 20 would be fine). The next morning when I went to return it for another car, it was dead again. The battery had clearly been jumped repeatedly, judging by the scratches on it. Great way to spend a vacation!

Pros: Picking up the car, filling out the paperwork was easy, quick.
Cons: On the day of return, we had called to ask if it would be ok that we returned by 1pm when we initially said noon and we were told that would be no problem. We were coming back to Denver from a 3 hour drive in the mountains; however when we arrived at 1:15 pm, we were charged for another full day!!!! The guy helping us was rude and short with us.
The manager wasn't around at this time so we called back an hour later, she said she assumed we knew there would be a late charge; why would anyone assume that when being told it is no problem; that is something that should be stated when the question is being asked. Poor customer service, didn't feel taken care of to want to use them again.

pickup location error
Pros: Avis upgraded the car for me
Cons: I searched for cars to rent from the Denver Airport. Kayak found a rate cheaper than anywhere else. What I didn't notice was that it was from a downtown location. Fortunately Avis gave me a rental from the airport. Unfortunately the rate was double what it was from the downtown location.

Pros: Ultimately, they were able to accommodate me after a reservation error. Shuttle service is prompt and convenient
Cons: I made the reservations on Kayak. I specifically put in Denver Airport for the location, but the "deals" that came up were actually for a different address in downtown Denver. We took the shuttle from the airport to the Avis location and the line was out to the door. After waiting close to an hour in line (which proceeded to extend out the door and into the road about 10 minutes after we got in line) I gave the clerk my name and she said that I did not have a reservation. She looked it up by my reservation number and told me that it was for the downtown location and that it was about a $60 cab ride to get there. She even told me that this happens all the time..
They did get me a vehicle, but it cost me $140 more than what I was expecting to pay.

Car is good but the service is terrible
Pros: The Ford Focus was new, clean, and full of the latest features. It also drives and rides very well. Plenty of oomph to go 75 miles per hour on I-25.
Cons: The rental line was long. The service center was drab. The return was chaotic. The trainee assigned to handle the return did not know what she was supposed to do and there was no one to help her.
I never received an email receipt. They also tagged on a fuel charge even though I made sure the tank was full before the car was returned. They did refund the fuel charge after I complained.
I won't go back for a long time.

Super service @ AVIS downtown Denver
Pros: Downtown AVIS should not be overlooked when renting a vehicle while visiting the Denver area. They are very friendly and professional, and not too far from the central train stop downtown (walking distance). A train ride between the airport to downtown is only $9 each way.

KAyak needs to label pick-up location - Downtown Denver vs Airport
Cons: KAyak does a terrible job identifiying location pick -up. I stated airport and got downtown and paid $150 more at the airport because I didn't have the correct location. This was my first time flying to Denver, and I thought it would be easy using KAyak, but I was disappointed.
