Cons: i showed up with my printed out confirmed , reserved reservation for a car for 8 day rental and got to office, no cars... after 2 hrs of calls and saying I'm not leaving without a car.. hertz send me to their repair center and they gave me one. ran fine, just had no shocks left so handled very poorly.. then, they tried to charge me more since they had no cars for me under my reserved contract... horrible customer service my local office manager also... she was sick from eating some food she liked by had allergic reactions to, but kept eating it?????

Cons: Car was not available at the airport. We had to take a $30 cab ride plus tip to get the prepaid car at a distant in-town Hertz location. We had to wait for a car to be prepped, when cars had been available at the airport.

Make sure pick up location is correct
Pros: Hertz was great, helpful and professional.
Cons: It isn't always apparent where the pick up and drop off location is located just by viewing the Kayak rental information onscreen. I flew into the airport but found out that my rental location was at another (in town) site. After a taxi ride to the location and paying the drop fee to return the car to the airport, suddenly my cheap car rental wasn't such a great deal after all.. The Hertz attendant said that this was not uncommon for Kayak customers.

Great people! So-So Location from the Sunport
Pros: The people were very helpful and friendly. I didn't realize the office closed at noon on Saturday, and the Manager Chelsea made sure that we knew about another drop off where we could leave the car after the noon cutoff at this location. Car was new and nice and had low mileage. There was a follow-up call on the second day to check on us and make sure the rental was going well. The employees were really, really good.
Cons: My fault - I didn't realize it was a $32 cab ride from the airport. I rented here in order to avoid the expensive fees you get renting at the airport. We used Uber to get back, so overall the cost was less than renting at the airport.

surprised and disappointed
Pros: The staff at the Albuquerque office were very helpful. I appreciated the phone call the day after I picked up the car to find out if there were any questions or concerns.
Cons: I was surprised to find out the car was not at the Albuquerque airport, but in the city of Albuquerque. The entire process of starting out at the airport Hertz, then going back to the terminal for a taxi, taking the taxi to Albuquerque, waiting for the car to be delivered and washed required about 2 extra hours. I'm sure if I had paid better attention, I would have been able to determine the proper location, but I had entered the airport location in the search, so didn't expect the office to be off-site. In addition, the car's upholstery was very dirty and stained, and a "maintenance required" light was lit. Both made me doubt the dependability of the car.

Cons: My assumption was that the Enterprise office was at the airport. This was wrong. My plane arrived at 7PM. This rental was placed at a downtown office that closed at 6PM. I had to rent from the Enterprise at the airport. They didn't have an intermediate car so I paid $184 instead of the $107 quoted. Kayak did not share everything I needed to know. Disappointing.

Pros: Drop off was super quick and easy!
Cons: Wasn't aware of the deposit charge. The deposit was accidentally charged twice, then one charge was immediately refunded, however in that interim my bank charged me an overdraft fee. Took me about 20 minutes at the bank to get it reversed.

The best place to get a rental car in ABQ
Pros: Friendly Staff. Easy commute to from the airport. Fast service. Great car selection.
Rental car was clean, roomy and got good gas mileage. Comfortable and handled well in snowy conditions. GPS worked very well even in remote areas of northern New Mexico.
Cons: Slow leak in left rear tire required continual filling. At pickup I was informed that I could not use my Bank of America debit card. This meant that my traveling companion needed to use her card which added approximately $200 more for the rental (extra driver and other charges). I was quoted $230 online but ended up paying around $560. At pick up the woman at the counter said I could sign up for a top-up refill at $1.98 a gallon which I did. At return, I was charged for an entire tank of gas at $1.98, not a top-up. I will not use Dollar Car Rental again.

Don't be scammed
Cons: I made the reservation for four days and just used the default drop off pick up times of noon. I've never had a problem with any rental car company in the past picking up a car as much as a day early. I arrived 1 1/2 hours early and was told that if I picked up the car even ONE MINUTE before noon that my contract would be invalidated and a new one generated. So I asked what the "new" price would be. Instead of the $90.00 rate on my contract the new rate was quoted as $150.00. So I asked what would happen if I picked up the car one minute after noon and received a shrug. I started to walk away and the lady called me back and said maybe she could "do better." So I let her run another quote and she came up with a total of $110.00, still over the original rate, but my daughter was waiting for me at the terminal so I took it. The car initially looked fairly clean, but as soon as sunlight hit the windows, they were so smeared I could barely see out of them so I had to stop at the first gas station to clean them. Also I was told if I chose the "bring it back full" option I had to save the receipt to prove I had filled up within 10 miles of the airport. I did this and when I tried to give it to the lady who checked me in, she said she didn't need it. All in all extremely poor experience with Dollar and I will never rent with them again.

Cons: The kayak price was the price I ended up paying, but the woman at the counter increased the price by about $20. She said there were extra taxes not included in the final-tax-kayak price, and she was wrong ultimately in terms of what I was billed after the car was returned, but it's never fun to deal with those hard-to-avoid car rental indignities.

Cons: I cancelled my reservation due to no longer needing a vehicle. While that was taken care of properly, I still have not been credited for the added insurance that I purchased for the trip and that was about 6 days ago.

Pros: Everything about the car was great
Cons: Customer Service was horrible and I felt like I was not important to Dollar as a customer. I was ignored on many occasions during the pick up and drop off. Same agent took attended to me each time. Very unprofessional and unwilling.
Also made a reservation for one price and ended up paying almost $70 more than the reservation! I will never rent from Dollar again.

Pros: I thought this was for another city where I rented a car from Dollar. Sorry! Anyway, everything at that Dollar local was perfect.
Cons: 1. Long line at the rental desk - with just ONE employee working there at the time.
2. They had NO (zero) cars available EXCEPT ONE Nissan Frontier mid-size pick-up truck. (I had reserved a compact car). The two renters in line ahead of me were told they could wait for a car to become available - or
go to another car rental desk.
3. I chose to take the pick-up truck as I did not have the luxury of waiting an unknown amount of time for a compact. The rental price was the same as my compact reservation price, but I ended up paying a LOT more for gas.

Cons: Unbelievably slow, but that was only the beginning. The agent said my (only) card was being declined, twice. Called my bank, Payless had not been declined, hadn't even connected. I stood in line behind one person for a further 45 minutes, and this time the agent said they had a new "system", and it couldn't read my card! He suggested I try another rental company, so I tried, but cost was exorbitant. So after TWO AND A HALF HOURS trying to rent a car, almost all of it spent at the Payless desk, I decided to use a taxi. It was a good decision. They were cheaper than a car would have been, even Payless, prompt and courteous. This is the second time I've tried unsuccessfully to rent a car from Payless at ABQ, and for sure the last.

Cons: at pick-up sales person tried to sell me an upgrade, then added some kind of roadside emergency coverage without my consent ($4.99/day), and misinformed me about local gas prices hoping to entice me to purchase pre-pay gas option. The cost shown on my original reservation was $205 and the initial contract the agent printed up was $275. I hate this kind of nickel-dime stuff at the desk and he had to redo the contract to remove the roadside emergency coverage that he hadn't mentioned and thought I wouldn't notice which cost me time at the counter. I know employees are trained in these deceptive practices and find it deplorable.

Cons: Overcharged. I was promised a charge around $240 upon pickup. I had paid $60 for insurance offered by kayak. The clerk tried signing me up for the insurance Payless offers, amounting to a total of over 500 dollars. Had i not been alert, i would have signed up for both policies.
I was also overcharged on my credit card; Payless estimated the overall cost for the week would be around 240 dollars, though a charge of 319 dollars has appeared on my statement.
Pros: I like to the Space and the gas mileage impressed with how far I got and only had to fuel up once

Cons: After we drove away we began to smell and feel the effects of a car that had been smoked in and covered up by air freshener. As my wife and I are both very allergic to cigarette smoke, we had to drive the whole trip with the windows down or cracked enough to let in fresh air. The good news is Advantage gave us 20% refund upon out return and lodging our disappointment.

The car itself was new and good quality.
Rental shuttle service at the Sunport is shared with all agencies, and the service and schedule are poor.
Cons: Had to get a second pre-drive inspection due to weak documentation of existing damage.
The deposit policy was unusual and not previously disclosed, and proved to be a pain.
Pickup was slow for a variety of reasons.

Pros: Dollar - the car company in the next kiosk took pity on me at 11:30 PM on Sat. night and gave me a car at the same prce - boy was I lucky!
The Dollar car was very excellent and so was their service.

Cons: When I arrived at the desk - the agent said she had no cars left! Never had that happen! I would say at least 6 people that were renting were in a similar situation!

Alamo economy rental
Pros: No complaints whatsoever. Apparently Alamo and National share a counter, workers, and fleet of cars in Albuquerque. Got a Ford Fiesta tiny little thing for just a shade over $10/day. Three days ended up costing $35, spent more on gas than on renting the car. And the car was surprisingly smooth, an enjoyable ride up to Raton and back as well as driving around Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
Staff was efficient and courteous on pickup and drop-off, car was cheap and more than adequate, plenty clean. Great value in my eyes.

Also, at checkout our final bill was MUCH higher than printed quote. Some sort of typo caused by clerk at check-in that resulted in an over charge of more than $200 while attempting check-out. This error took 7 days to adjust on our credit card statement.

Bait and switch - car rental's backbone?
Pros: The vehicle was real nice and the outside staff did their job well.
Cons: Quoted price of $230 ended up being $570 with add on fees, refueling charges, airport fees, etc., etc.
What a snake pit of fast talking disinformation and deception. NEVER going to use this company again. There are much better options that I will use, and I'll encourage others to do the same.

Pros: I loved the guy who worked at the Albuquerque airport where we dropped off the car. A really cool guy and very helpful. Shuttle service was very efficient.
Cons: The gas station is a bit of a trek from the airport.
Pros: The drop off experience was very good, with very friendly/understanding attendants.
Cons: I don't know for sure, but it seems like more than a coincidence that a very damaged car was provided to the renter (me) who would drive it far away (one way rental). Worse was that they made no effort to detail the numerous damages to the car. I'm accustomed to having to check out a car, including going over damages. This pickup points expects you to drive away. I had to find someone and make them document the damaged trunk (like someone pried it open with a crow bar) and dislodged bumper; and many small dings. Furthermore, there was dirt inside. I was charged 2.5 times their local rate and was given their worst car, with service that bordered on deceptive. Thrifty, who is one in the same as Dollar at ABO, is NO LONGER my rental company of choice.

Easy drop off
Pros: staff was responsive; nice car and great value.
Cons: We were shown to car and authoriEd to drive off. We self inspected and found a huge (18-20") scratch. Couldn't find a human at first so had to wait in Thrifty lot. Finally found employee and the scratch was not noted prior to us. Good thing we checked car and reported BEFOREHAND we drove away as we would've been liable for said scratch. That was my only negative.
Car was clean but not sparkling as we had to wash Windows upon pick up.

Don't rent from Thrifty at ALB
Cons: We went to pick up the car and they told us that it was be another $78 than the quoted price for instance. We told them it's on our card and our personal auto insurance and that we didn't need it. They told us we had to no matter what. Also my flight was delayed and my friend had the rental confirmation. They were incredibly rude and wouldn't let her pick up the car until I called thrifty and changed the name. Horrible customer service.

Poor booking experience, Worse service from AVIS
Pros: Ford Escapes are decent vehicles and it performed well
Cons: Kayak booked me at a downtown Albuquerue AVIS even though the airport AVIS was at the same price. Wasted my time and money and ended up getting charged $20/more a day at AVIS airport to do an in person booking, thus Kayak lost the revenue.
The insurance policy I bought from Allianz through your site was VOIDed by the company and they said it was useless for me to book this online since it was only good if I'd picked up at the Airport location, not the downtown location. However, they would not let me cancel so I just wasted that $30 for no benefit.
The gate agent at AVIS made me rent a GPS unit to reduce my bill. Bizarre.
AVIS tried to give me a Jeep Patriot then once I complained gave me a Ford Escape with extensive body damage to the rear right, then did not allow me the opportunity to review vehicle condition prior to checkout, so it would have been my fault should they have noted the damage.
