Top tips for hiring a car at Santa Fe airport

  • Even though public transport is usually cheaper, nothing beats the convenience of rental cars. First, with your own set of wheels, you are free to venture as far as you like, and you are not restricted by the rigid schedules of the public transportation system. Attractions such as Hyde Memorial State Park are only a short drive away.
  • Santa Fe Airport (SAF) hosts four car rental providers. Two are located inside the facility, while two are at an offsite facility. Like most airports in the US, if you will be traveling with kids, you need to have a car seat where you can secure your child. You can rent this and other added extras, including a GPS navigation system from your rental car provider.
  • To return your rental car, follow the signs for rental car return to the return lot at Santa Fe Airport. Once at the lot, park your rental car in your provider's space and return the key and contract to the car rental counter next to the check-in desks. For after-hours returns, once you park and lock the vehicle, take the key and contract to the drop-off counter inside the terminal. Remember to take your belongings with you.
  • If you wish to navigate through Santa Fe easily, consider getting some of the rental cars with the best scores at Santa Fe Airport. Compact cars, full-size sedans, and standard SUVs are some of the most rented cars from Santa Fe Airport car rental providers. These types of vehicles serve well solo travelers and families.
  • Book your car hire at Santa Fe airport at least 4 weeks before your trip in order to get a below-average price

Terrible. I booked a car, paid and had a confirmation number. I took an uber to the airport to pick up the car and the employee said there weren’t any cars available and wouldn’t be any. I then took an uber back into town and called Hertz 1-800 number to make sure I was refunded the money I paid. I was refunded but now I have to call or email another person to have the collision coverage I paid refunded. If you can help me get my money back for that charge it would be very much appreciated.

Terrible. Was unable to pick up car under l reservation bc I used a virtual Credit card and couldn’t present that same card physically. Hertz would not allow me to update the payment source on my reservation so I was forced to cancel and rebook as a walk up. Terrible.

Friendliest staff ever. I did have to return the vehicle off-hours, which meant no shuttle service and a long, cold walk from parking lot to terminal. Other than that, everything was great.

KAYAK
Horrible experience. Was not able to rent a car through Enterprise even though I had one reserved/confirmed. When checking in at the airport I was told there were no vehicles available. Ended up renting through Avis and had to pay an additional $800 to what I was planning on spending as there were only a few cars available. I flew in for an event 2 hours away that I needed to be at so was desperate and rented a vehicle despite the high cost. Enterprise said they tried to call to let me know there were no vehicles available but did not receive a call. The contact number was correct. There was no email sent which would have helped. I’m very frustrated with Enterprise and Kayak and I do not want to rent from them or use Kayak ever again.

Everyone here was incredibly helpful and friendly. I'd like to thank, specifically, Darryl Nguyen for taking great care of us and finding us a car last minute. He was extremely friendly...uncommon for rental places. The gentleman that took care of us upon return and the shuttle driver were also incredibly friendly.
