The different companies providing car hire at Puerto Escondido Airport are located at different places in and near the airport. Most, including Keddy and Firefly, are located inside the airport terminal while Sunnycars is located just outside near the main parking lot. Europcar can be found just a short walk along the main road that leads to the airport. Once the staff have checked your paperwork and confirmed your booking you will be able to collect your vehicle from a nearby parking lot. Take note of where your vehicle is located within the lot as this is likely the general area you will be asked to return it to.
Before you can collect your car hire at Puerto Escondido Airport the staff will first have to check some identity and payment documents. You will need to show them your driver's license, usually, this will need to have no demerit points or restrictions on it. Then you will need to present your passport along with a major credit card so you can provide payment information and put down a deposit. Finally, you will need confirmation of your booking. It is best if the legal name on all these documents matches.
Hertz and Firefly's service desks are open 24h a day for total flexibility on pick-up and drop-off. Major providers will often have loyalty programs that may offer priority or express check-in services. In the event that traffic is heavy or you have an unavoidable disruption, Europcar has a grace period of 29min on their returns, giving you some extra leeway if a last-minute emergency strikes.

Pros:Nothing. We didn’t end up renting the car because when I got to the Hertz counter at the airport they didn’t have my booked rental available. They only had a few Chrysler Minivans available and those fell into a higher rental tier hence they wanted to charge me an additional amount per day for it. They didn’t want to honor the booked price and wanted to charge me more for what was available. Not a good experience.
Cons:Kayak allows you to book the reservation outside the hours of operation. Check locally for the actual hours and you will have the best experience.
Cons:Car was not available
Cons:Even with a reservation there was no car available.
Cons:Hertz in Puerto Escondido will charge you an additional 30% on your rental with all of these tourism and local taxes. Insurance is also way too expensive, avoid this place if you can.
Pros:Staff was great, car was clean and worked great
Cons:Deceptive pricing online, total cost was double once it was all said and done. Also, the car started with 3/8s of a tank of gas instead of full so returning it with the same amount of gas involved extra work.
Pros:I was told the cost would be $40. When i arrived I was told i owed $400. Did not rent the car.
Cons:I was told the cost would be $40. When i arrived I was told i owed $400. Did not rent the car.
Pros:Nothing, they add fees and will not accept American cc insurance coverage even though it is not mentioned anywhere.
Cons:Everything, do not rent from here they will try to scam you for more than double your quoted rate.
Pros:The staff was friendly and patient. The car was clean and in good working order. The rental location was close to the airport terminal.
Cons:I was surprised at the counter by the requirement for a liability insurance letter from my credit card company. Because I didn't have that, Europcar's liability insurance more than doubled the price of the rental I reserved through CarRentals.com. A required credit card deposit of 10% of the value of the car was also an unwelcome surprise. These requirements could have been made more explicit in Europcar's and CarRentals.com's terms when making the reservation. Also, the rental agent spent a lot of time going over every little nick and scratch on the car before leaving the lot and upon returning the car; it felt like they were looking for a reason to charge me even more. This is not appreciated in a region with a lot of bumpy and rocky roads.
Pros:Not one thing.
Cons:A more clear price for the rental, to include deposit prices and additional required coverage prices. In the end the rental cost 3x as much as indicated on Kayak. Also, I was given a car with multiple existing scratches and dings. Luckily I took a video of all of the damage and was able to get my deposit back. The staff attempted to say that I caused the scratches and thus keep my deposit.
Cons:Firefly does not exist in Puerto Escondido. We planned to drive around the area and wound up being stranded at the airport and then stuck in our hotel. Firefly had no explanation and kayak was not reachable. We spent 30 min on the phone trying to sort this out. There was no other way to get a rental and this messed up our whole trip.
