It was great, the car was amazing and it was really easy to rent. If you’re returning the cart in the Aeroport Paris Beauvais just make sure you get there with enough time, it’s not that easy to find the returning space.

Basically I reserved an automatic electric car, they gave me a manual diesel car and had no other options for me, who doesn’t posses a manual car license. They supposedly added my partner (who has a manual car license) as an additional driver in the contract “for free” but ended up charging the fee in my credit card. Je suis vraiment dégoûté, c’est que 10€ mais déjà ils nous ont pas donné la voiture avec les caractéristiques réservés et payées.

Pros:

The young woman who presented me the car was excellent in her warm manner, explanation and thoroughness. The young gentleman who received the car upon my return was equally through and gentile.

Cons:

Was initially told they were out of cars and I would have had to wait a few hours or return the following day. I refused and they quickly “ found” an available car. Unfortunately, the rental desks at many of these agencies are the most challenging to deal with.

Pros:

Pickup and return was fast

Cons:

The car was dirty inside and smelled really bad. I pointed it out at the pickup but was just brushed off. We had to leave and short on time, so I took the car anyways. It was not a pleasant drive though.

Cons:

The dropoff in Paris was difficult. The rental office was closed, and we had to drop the car at a parking garage which was unmarked. We ended up parking the car on a street and walking into the office in order to drop the car. The attendant was very helpful, and assisted my husband with driving the car into the garage.

Pros:

The car worked and did not break down.

Cons:

Pick up was terribly slow. We waited almost a half hour before we were even able to get to the counter. Then had to walk to a different location to pick up the car. On getting to the garage, the car they offered us had not even been cleaned and was filthy on both the outside and the inside. We then had to wait another half hour before they gave us another car. Even though my invoice and bill were all in EUR, when I got my finall bill I noticed that, without my authorization, they had charged me in USD and charged me an extortionate conversion rate for the privilege. I used to have a high perception of Hertz but these sleazy tactics (which only amount to a couple of $ for them) make me want to put them into the same bucket as other sleazy operators such as Ryanair.

Awful experience with car breaking down and not being able to reach anyone at roadside assistance, or customer service AT ALL. Stranded in the middle of nowhere & had to make our own way back to Paris.. distressed am spending hundreds of extra $$$ to not miss a flight home. Still have yet to receive a single phone call from Hertz.

Our Peugeot 2008 was an excellent car, although Hertz had neglected to fill the window washer fluid (or perhaps that feature was faulty). Toward the end of our trip the car signaled a need for engine repair, although not impeding its performance. My significant disappointment came at the end of the trip. We needed extra time, and it was impossible in France to reach a Hertz person with whom to discuss this. An hour on the phone circulating among telephone numbers that could not help, until finally I reached someone in London (!) who advised that all I could do was to go on line. That, too, produced no direct response -- but I saw there this policy. "The grace period is 59 minutes. After this time, overtime will be charged. Overtime is charged at one fifth of the daily rate up to 5 hours. Then, a full rental day will be charged. I delivered the car to CDG, the designated drop-off, 6.5 hours late. We were then charged not a full day rental rate Hertz had agreed to for four days, but a new price, considerably higher, and I was charged that for the full five days of the rental. In my haste to get back (and the mysteries of CDG, where gas stations are not to be encountered) I returned the car needing 2/3 of a tank of gas -- about 28 liters. The price per liter charged me was 4.6 Euros/liter -- more than twice the price charged at A-6 stations, and more than three times the price I had paid when first filling the car. Since there was an additional price for the serving of filling the car (12.5 Euros) this was truly outrageous.

The gentlemen at the counter was not very helpful. Insisted that we have the exact credit card that we rented the car with (not any other one) so we had to walk a mile back to our hotel and the mile back to get it.
