Košice car hire

If you are planning on remaining in urban Košice during your stay, you will be quite satisfied with a compact economy or saloon car, as streets are either small or easy to drive on. If you are in a larger group or would like to take a drive out further into the Slovakian surrounds, roads may have suffered some weather damage in the winter months and potholes are not uncommon. A 4x4 would suit well for day trips.

When driving on the roads in Košice it is vital you pay attention to the rules of the road as authorities have a zero tolerance policy on traffic infringements, such as using mobile phones whilst driving, drunk driving and breaking the speed limit. In the city centre and residential areas the speed limit is 30mph, further out of town it goes up to 50mph and then up to 130mph on the motorways. Traffic cameras are prevalent in this busy city, so be aware to take note of the traffic signage around you.

Košice has ample parking spaces in and around the city that offer the first 2h of parking for free. Look out for Parkovisko Orlia, Parkovisko Vodná, Parkovisko Kasárenské Námestie and Palárikova 9. They are all under a 10min walk from the city centre. Paid car parks charge between €3 (£2.63) and €15 (£13.14) for 2h, but you will have no problem finding a free spacet.
