Pros: Nice staff, didn't pressure upsell the insurance like I was worried about. Drop off in the city center was not as easy as expected, due to the lack of parking instructions. Value was outstanding.Cons: Need to provide clear instructions that if you are dropping off at the lower Drumconda location, there are no parking spots in front of the office. You need to pull into a bus lane and park there, which isn't ideal, but workable.
4.8 Okay4 Nov 2019
Pros: Car well maintainedCons: Not being requested for a credit card hold of €22.000 if no basic insurance of €22 a day was acquired.
4.4 Okay15 Oct 2019
Pros: PriceCons: They try to rip you off on extra insurance. Concerned they’ve charged us extra. Have to keep an eye on what they actually charged. They did put a 5000€ hold on the card because we declined their insurance.
9.2 Excellent28 Sep 2019
Pros: Staff when doing the paperwork to pick-up the car more helpful & friendly. Staff at the actual car pickup lot less helpful & one a bit dismissive when you asked questions. Staff when dropping off the car a bit unfriendly & seemed a bit irritable.Cons: If you are going to Ireland, do your homework about what your personal auto insurance will cover (call them & let them know where you are going) & also call your credit card company to see if they have primary or secondary insurance when renting the car because many credit card companies don't there

Cons: On the website it says they do not charge for going to Northern Ireland but I was charged !!?
7.6 Good3 Sep 2019
Pros: Picking up and dropping off from The terminal 2 station was very easy.Cons: You $5,000 hold on a card if you don't choose their insurance is ridiculous. the car was an automatic, but it felt like it was powered by hamsters.
4.4 Okay29 Aug 2019
Pros: Pickup and drop off was easy.Cons: This company essentially forces you to purchase full insurance. We traveled to Ireland and rented a car for a few days. I put the rental car on my credit card, and they explained to me that if you don’t buy insurance they will put a 5,000€ hold on my card if I don’t buy insurance.

Pros: Having a car in IrelandCons: Once I got off my plane I had to wait a while to get a budget shuttle to where they keep the cars. Once I got there I waited in line behind maybe 7 people for TWO HOURS before I finally got to checkout with my car. And of course they charged a ridiculous amount of money for everything.

Pros: Staff were very helpful at Avis but the insurance fees were outrageous and tripled the cost of the rental. That being said, I cannot commend them enough for how they handled our return of the car early due to COVID-19Cons: Quote insurance in advance and do a better job describing luggage space. We did not have enough space for 4 large pieces of luggage in this car
2.4 Mediocre9 Aug 2019
Pros: Extremely rude staff, particularly the woman working at the counter in Terminal 2 and the shuttle bus driver. Additional charges applied at time of collection which were not transparent during booking process. Car provided was much smaller than that advertised for the category. Slow pick-up/drop-offCons: Everything, would never rent from them again
9.2 Excellent30 Jul 2019
Pros: Good vehicle, easy drop off.Cons: Expensive extras, ie insurance + additional driver. Took way too long to collect the vehicle in the first place - 45 minutes.
4.0 Okay11 May 2019
Pros: The outside of the car was dirty, the transmission would easily slip into reverse (no down press, or button to engage). They were going to charge me for a dent in the hood, fortunately my wife had taken a picture of it when we picked up the car.
4.0 Okay27 Oct 2018
Pros: the second car was very good. they helped us at the airport which was a better location. However, the agent that helped us was less than helpful. it needed to be clearer that if you didn't take their insurance they were going to put 7500 euros on your credit card. he was unwilling to provide options. In comparison we dealt with another company in glascow and they provided good alternatives with reasonable costs. A much better experience.Cons: The first car they gave us was old and not in good working order. we returned it and got a much better, newer car that worked well.
9.2 Excellent21 Sep 2018
Great, easy experiencePros: Mark was the BEST!! We were sold an insurance policy from a 3rd party that ended up being invalid in Ireland...we never would have known without Mark! He brought it to our attention, helped us confirm this fact with the 3rd party, and helped facilitate our refund with them. He then helped us get a a valid policy, and even upgraded our car to help ease our pain of the day ;) Would recommend!Cons: Dirty bathrooms with no toilet paper in men's OR women's bathrooms.
8.4 Excellent21 Aug 2018
Pros: Friendly pick up staff at counterCons: Small size 7 passenger. I clicked on a Ford Galaxy and that is what I wanted but you confirmed an Opel Zafira. We call that Bait and Switch which is illegal in the USA. Very NOT happy with the size of the car and your deceptive business practice.
2.0 Mediocre13 Aug 2018
Unsatisfactory and unprofessionalCons: The woman at the Dublin Airport Avis booth quoted double the cost of online quote. The workers were unprofessional, not accommodating. I rented same car from Sixt Irish car rental for half the price. I will not use Avis!
6.4 Good26 Feb 2018
Not in terminalPros: Friendly staffCons: The car pickup was advertised as in terminal and it was not in the terminal. I picked this company because it was advertised as in terminal.

Pros: We were able to pick car off at location in Dublin and return it to the Dublin airport.Cons: When we booked car we were quoted $132 for the week. When we picked the car up we were told we had to take $500 in insurance. They told us you could deny it, but if you did they would place a hold on credit card for total cost of car
6.0 Good6 Sep 2018
Insurance madnessCons: My credit card covered rental insurance fully and Europcar asked for an email from my bank/credit card company before giving me the car. I had to call my credit card provider and have them send an email to Europcar. Pretty damn ridiculous. All told, I wasted three hours getting all this sorted, and even after I finally got them what they needed, they put a EURO 5,000 authorization charge on my account, an obscene amount for a one-week rental. Also: There's a 25 EURO airport surcharge that I was never made aware of, and a 35 EURO charge to travel into Northern Ireland, which I also wasn't made aware of until the time of payment. I recommend you book elsewhere, because a Google search tells me that not all car rental companies charge for traveling into Northern Ireland.
4.4 Okay3 Jul 2018
Rental Quote and Actual Price and Car NOT THE SAMEPros: The car was grey.Cons: Upon arrival in Dublin we were shuttled to an outside airport location. The quoted vehicle was not available, altho we had reserved it several months ahead. In fact they said Dublin NEVER carries that model (a 9 passenger van). So we were given a smaller (7 pax) vehicle which was way too small for our 6 adults to enjoy for a week. The quoted price was 1/4 of what they ended up charging. We had insurance but they would not accept it and required we pay the Europcar offered policy. We have rented in many other countries without all the insurance demands. We would never have booked with them if the initial quote had been correct as other vendors had just what we wanted. Europcar is a real RIPOFF.
6.8 Good6 Jun 2018
Insurance was priceyPros: Agent at airport was very helpful.Cons: Insurance charges should be stated more clearly when booking. Insurance was nearly three times the price of the car. Car smelled like someone had been smoking in it.
2.0 Mediocre4 Apr 2018
No any insurancePros: I. Didn't like anything.Cons: The booking made on kayak did not include any basic insurance, absolutely nothing, which is illegal. That's why kayak gave me low price. So when i arrived to the airport i was told that i didn't have any insurance. So they cancelled the booking and offered me a car for the same price but with insurance. I will never ever again use kayak and i will strongly recommend never to use it.
7.6 Good26 Mar 2018
Perfect car for our tripPros: Small but fun car for cruising around Ireland. Great gas mileage with diesel and manual shift was crucial for backroads.Cons: I told them no coverage but they wouldn’t really take no for an answer and it doubled the cost so really paid WAY too much.
4.4 Okay20 Feb 2018
Cons: The MANDATORY insurance fees are absolutely ridiculous. On-wed scammed into thinking that the car rental fee was $4 per day and the insurance cost, which I booked online was another $30 per day. When I arrived, they forced me to pay all insurances or leave a $1,500 deposit, which I wasn't prepared for. The also require me to purchase the full tank of gas, which was 107 Euro, but said it would be refunded upon return if the tank was full. According to the quote thru Budget/Kayak, at the time of booking, it should have cost me approx 250USD. It ended up costing me over 800USD. I returned the car clean, full of fuel, and not a single scratch. I will NEVER rent thru Budget again, neither overseas or domestically!
6.0 Good3 Nov 2017
Pros: The carCons: They did not have the car size for the amount we reserved. So we were up Sold to a $600 car. Also kayak advertised the car we reserved as $100’dollars for the week and that was not what we were told at time of arrival they said it was $400 and we had to ultimately pay $600 up front. This is the last time I will book a car thru kayak.

Staff Very Customer Service OrientedPros: The staff was responsive to my needs and very helpful. Make sure you consider insurance and GPS needs prior to arriving. You should get both if you don't have adequate coverage from your personal insurance company...or have a GPS option. Also, do not get a manual shift. It's challenging enough to drive with an automatic. It is preferred to get a diesel vehicle as 70% of the cars in Ireland are diesel. The roads are narrow...get a "small" car!! Over all it was a positive experience and I will use Enterprise again when in Dublin.Cons: Transfer from the airport to the car lot is confusing. Make sure to clarify how to get transported to the car lot.

Pros: The insurance was high and still listed things it did not cover. Thankful we did not need to use it! Car rental was great.

Cons: Hertz in Dublin nickel and dimed me. Charges an outrageous amount for a small upgrade.

Long wait, friendly service as they pushed upcharges for the car.Pros: Very friendly and personable, and after an hour wait, for service, the care they delivered was great.Cons: I had verified that I have full collision damage insurance with my credit card and had the policy, but they wouldn't give me a car without a letter or call from the card company. This proved impossible to do on the spot so I had to take the $15 Euro a day for redundant insurance.

Quick drop-off, no hassles.Pros: It was a quick drop-off, just like I'm used to in the US. Everything was in order, and there were no hassles. The shuttle came within about 5 minutes.

Cons: Didn’t even take the car. Got to the counter and was told that the actual price was 950 euro as basic insurance was not included in the kayak quote- which I was quoted at 145 euro. Ridiculous misadvertising on kayaks part.

Worry-free RentalPros: The car we rented was very comfortable and easy to drive which was fortunate because we did a lot of driving.Cons: The pick-up counter at the airport was very busy when we arrived. Despite having the desk fully staffed with about six agents it still took us nearly 30 minutes to get to our car.

Cons: I used my credit card’s insurance guarantee, but nowhere in the reservation did it say that to do do ALSO required a letter from my credit card company stating (1) that they cover the Republic of Ireland, (2) they will cover the lace loss if totaled, and (3) the last 4 numbers of my cc account. So at the Europcar desk I had to make that phone call, wade through a few phone trees, then talk to a couple of humans. I did get the letter (great service by my cc bank!) but I was lucky - that approval process may take up to 24 hours. The Europcar desk agent said this happens “quite a bit” with the brokers because you don’t provide the information about what each rental car company requires to use the cc insurance waiver benefits. I suggest adding a link to your process that will take your to the specific rental car company page for their CDW. I did use the link provided for my rental but it did not say I would have to get the letter etc.

Pros: The lines were really long with people complaining and not moving. The Payless personnel were in the same space as Budget and Avis and it was hard to tell the difference in who was working what. Eventually all personnel worked on the same long Payless line. Then the price of our car quadrupled.

Cons: The only thing that would be better is to have a map available in the car that shows more detail. The one we received wasn’t useful. Our cell phones drop service overseas so getting to our hotel and a phone sales location was difficult. Really not their responsibility, but nice nevertheless.

Awful experience.Pros: The car we eventually got kept working and did not break down - that is the only nice thing I can say.Cons: The fact we were left standing outside at night for over and hour waiting on the shuttle service, that we were given a smaller car than that booked, that there were loads of extra charges we could do nothing about was appalling! No sprinkler in the car so could not wash windows! Problems dropping off car - no one at the return location. Lost so much time was late for my flight. Like others, what appeared to be a good deal was really not one. I will never use this company again!
2.0 Mediocre7 Jun 2018
Pros: nothingCons: Can't find shuttle pick-up easily and it's far away. Shuttle is cramped. Poor customer service provided by the booking staff. Poorly defined conditions of sale -- not easily known that if not picking up car within 2 hours then sale is forfeited and no negotiation to change this. Flight delay lead to the rental agreement being voided and no other cars available. Very rude. Hearing other poeple that were returning cars, definitely recommend getting extra insurance coverage because they were changed a lot for a scratch that may have been there -- they don't do 'walk arounds' on the cars so you can't prove if damage has already been done. Would NOT recommend to anyone.
2.0 Mediocre26 May 2018
Pros: Nothing really. The rental car pickup is not really "at" the airport. Dierctions to where their shuttle picks you up are non-existent. They tried to get us to rent a GPS, they brought out 3, none worked properly. Didn't take the GPS off the bill. The car was not advertised properly. Too small, sure it could "hold" six people, but forget luggage. Will never rent from them again.

Easy, good valuePros: Great car, ready when we arrived, friendly staffCons: Car was not full of fuel when rented. We however didn't notice until 30 km away. Called them and sent pic of fuel gauge but never heard back. Had no choice but to return full. No credit was given. Annoying.

Would not recommendPros: NothingCons: After traveling from California to visit my family in Ireland ( three flights & 20 hours travel time)- nobody could tell me where the Easirent shuttle picked up from. Finally, I learned There us a legal issue between Easirent & The airport as they have failed to pay service charge for picking up & dropping travelers ioff. When I finally reached them, they hung up on me. When I called back they said they didn't have a vehicle for me despite the fact that I reserved it over five months prior. The representative recommended I contact some of the other rental companies at the airport. as Easirent couldn't help me. Of course none of the other rental agencies had vehicles available at such short notice. One of them informed me that I was the third traveler they met that day with a similar story after Easirsnt failed to provide a vehicle. Sixt was able to accommodate me for a 10 day rental but not that day. I had to take a cab to my parents home & pick up my 10 day rental from Sixt a couple of days later. I wonder how the other two travelers fared? I typically rent from Sixt or Dan Dooley as Invidit Ireland every 6 months. I will never make the mistake of renting from Easirent again

Cons: I ordered and paid for an automatic, but they only had a manual transmission. Therefore I had to overpay for the manual they gave me, and said customer service would resolve it. The customer service group has not responded to my messages.
6.0 Good29 May 2017
Pros: It was a good quality car. No problems with the vehicle.Cons: The vehicle we reserved (an automatic) was not available and they were really sketchy on the reasoning. When we called for the shuttle about an hour or so after we had landed (our flight was a bit delayed) they said they were out of automatics because we were late. We ended up taking the manual, and when I asked them what happened while I was at the counter, they said "there were a lot of accidents this week so they sold out of automatics." I said well then that means they weren't all out because I was late, doesn't it? And he got rather flustered. It felt like a bait and switch, and would have been extremely problematic if I wasn't able to drive a manual as the other rental companies were charging 1.5x what I had booked for.
2.0 Mediocre19 May 2017
Never found the company.Pros: I rented a car for Dublin Airport. They were not at the airport. No one seemed to have ever even heard of them. I ended up having to rent with another car rental place at the airport and it cost me more money plus I had paid for car insurance ahead of time which I was told was a scam... but this was by someone else how was renting a car to me. I had no # for Easirent and no good info on how to find them.. Being in a foreign country. Not fun.

Top tips for renting a car in Dublin

  • The best way to fully experience the joys of Dublin is by car. You will find renting a car is a much simpler way to get around Ireland’s capital city than relying on its hectic public transport system. Plus you benefit from having freedom to discover the best sights at your leisure. Naturally, you’ll want to visit the iconic Guinness Storehouse, which has free parking on nearby Crane Street. Or further afield, less than an hour’s drive outside the city, you’ll find the wonderful gardens of Powerscourt House in County Wicklow.
  • Less than 20 miles from the city center, Dublin Airport offers excellent opportunities for car hire. When you arrive at the Airport, finding the car hire desks could not be easier. If you’re arriving from a regional flight, you’ll find the hire desks in the Arrivals Hall at Terminal 1, or, if you’re on an international flight, you’ll arrive into Terminal 2 and go to the multi-story parking lot to book your hire car.
  • Firstly, you must remember that everyone drives on the left in Ireland and, as Dublin is a small city, you can expect to navigate much smaller roads. To get the best out of your driving experience in and around Dublin, stick to the main routes and avoid shortcuts, as you may get lost. The city is a rabbit warren of one-way and dead-end streets that can outfox even the most experienced drivers.
  • To save you from traffic jams and gridlock, always avoid the Dublin rush hour between 7:30 am and 9 am, and in the evenings around 6:30 pm. It’s also best not to drive near the Liffey River at these busy times. In the darker, winter months, be wary of fog and mist, which can affect driving conditions, as can the frost on higher routes.
  • 25% of our users found rental cars in Dublin for RM 205 or less
  • Book your rental car in Dublin at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

  • Based on ratings and reviews from real users on KAYAK, the best car rental companies in Dublin are Budget (7.1, 104 reviews), Hertz (7.0, 69 reviews), and Avis (6.7, 130 reviews).

  • On average a rental car in Dublin costs RM 1,971 per week (RM 282 per day).

  • On average a rental car in Dublin costs RM 8,447 per month (RM 282 per day).

  • As the majority of Dublin’s streets are narrow or cobbled, it’s best to rent a small car that can easily zip around. You should choose a mini or economy car type for the best driving experience, plus it’ll be much easier to park in the limited spaces around the city -- not to mention the fact that smaller cars are much cheaper to run.

  • Within the city center of Dublin, the default speed limit for roads is 31 mph. This limit remains the same for many of the roads within the city boundary. Be aware of speed cameras at either end of Dublin's Port Tunnel. If you’re traveling outside of the city on National Routes, the limit is 62 mph and on highways the speed limit increases to 75 mph. You will always be notified by sign posts where there is a change of speed limit.

  • When it comes to filling up your hire car, you can expect to pay on average around $2.00 per liter ($7.57 per gallon). Generally, the cheapest place to buy your petrol is at the supermarket petrol stations, which you can find in more suburban areas.

  • Due to the lack of free parking in Dublin, you will have to rely a parking space in one of the many signposted, multi-story parking ramps in the city. However, if you’re visiting on St Patrick’s day (March 17th), parking on the street is free of charge! Most parking lots have a competitive daily rate which depends on which zone you’re in. Hourly rates are between $1.00 and $3.00. However, be careful not to park in forbidden areas because you will be clamped, or even towed away.
