Top tips for hiring a car at Shreveport airport

  • The Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) is one of the major airports in Louisiana. It is just 13 minutes from downtown Shreveport, 12 minutes from downtown Bossier City, and less than 30 minutes from the Texas border. There is a public bus that you can take from the airport to both Bossier City and Shreveport. It is more than likely you'll have to change buses at one of the transfer hubs. This means switching buses, transporting your luggage, and finding a place to sit. With a rental car, you can make yourself at home. You can tour nearby quaint towns and suburbs that are not accessible by bus. In your Shreveport Airport rental car, you can also visit sights in the state of Texas.
  • This airport has one main terminal that is divided into two floors. The lower-level houses baggage claim, rental car kiosks, and ticket counters. Right outside of the lower-level terminal is the rental car drop-off area. There is TSA, the airline gates, and a restaurant/bar on the upper level. It has an escalator to make it easy to get from one airport floor to another. Car rentals at Shreveport Airport include major companies like Avis, Enterprise, Thrifty, and Hertz.
  • At this location, you can rent a small car, a medium or large car, or an SUV. Most car rentals at Shreveport Airport are open from 8 am to nearly midnight which covers most flight departures and arrivals. May, June, and July are the busiest months to visit Shreveport. If you're planning to visit this time of the year, it is important that you book your rental car in advance.
  • Use KAYAK to compare prices and travel dates to find the best deal or car rental package. You can also search for add-ons or features like roadside assistance, GPS, XM radio, refueling service, unlimited mileage, and infant/toddler/booster seats, or you can look into adding someone to your rental car contract. At car rentals here, however, you can add your spouse to your contract for no additional charge.
  • Book your car hire at Shreveport airport at least 1 day before your trip in order to get a below-average price

FAQs about renting a car at Shreveport airport

  • What do I need for a car rental at Shreveport Airport?

First, you must be at least 21 years of age to rent a car here. Some rental car agencies will only permit you to rent a car if you're 24 or older. You must also have a valid driver's license. If you're not from the United States, an enhanced driver's license or an international driver's permit will suffice. This cannot be a printed or digital copy of the license. The rental agent will need to see your official driver's license.

  • How can I pay for my car rental at Shreveport Airport?

The best option to pay for your Shreveport Airport car rental is to use a credit card from a major company like Visa or MasterCard. It is best to check with the rental company before you leave to see what cards they accept. Some rental car companies at Shreveport Airport will let you pay with a debit or gift card. Once again, you will need to speak with the agency directly to get a definitive answer.

  • Can I return my car after hours to the Shreveport Airport?

If you need to return your rental car after hours, that can be arranged with several of the agencies at Shreveport Airport including Enterprise and National. When returning your car to the airport, you should follow the signs for car rental returns. Each agency has several parking spaces designated for their customers in the rental car parking lot. You should find the right spot, park your car, gather your belongings, and lock the car. There is a drop box inside the terminal where you can leave the keys.

  • Which car rental companies will pick you up at Shreveport airport?

Car rental companies that offer shuttle or pick-up services from Shreveport airport to off-airport locations include Avis, Budget, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hertz, National, and Thrifty.

The staff during the return were not friendly at all. In fact the woman had her hand over her face, peeked through at me and asked, ‘what do you want?’ If she’s that miserable why work there?

Excellent. We were upgraded for free. The car was very nice and accommodated our needs well. When we returned the car, my husband accidentally left his wallet on the counter. A few minutes later the associate came running after us to return it promptly! My only complaints are that I didn’t love the air freshener that they used…it was kind of a heavy smell. And for the drop off, the email sent didn’t have very clear instructions on where to park and what the drop off process was.

2.0 Poor

Unfortunately, we had an awful experience. The Hertz dealer at Shreveport was understaffed and under stocked. I waited approximately 4 hours for my car. The young lady at the desk had to go and wash vehicles herself. There were over 20 customers waiting for their vehicles. I had booked a vehicle to be picked up on the 22nd of June weeks in advance. When I attempted to get my keys, the gal said she could see my reservation. But, she said it was forcing her to charge me again and it would be up me to get my money back for the “extra” charge. I did not receive the type of vehicle I had requested. It was a nice car, clean, filled with fuel and reliable. To top it off the rental was for the incorrect amount of days and the return location was incorrect. We spent an hour and a half, while driving, with multiple agents that corrected the days and the drop off point. As of today, we have not received our refund. The poor gal at the desk was doing all she could do to help. She was not getting any help from the other two workers that were present. She was begging them to wash vehicles and they basically refused. Customers should be aware that they are not able to arrive at the airport, grab their keys and drive away. Kayak should warn customers that they may be dealing with difficulties when renting cars from Hertz at this location.

I reserved a car several days in advance, Hertz had no cars available when I got to the airport. The lady at the counter was completely unhelpful.
