Location Cleanliness Restaurant organization Front desk layout
proximity to train station, snack bar in lobby, restaurant just up from the lobby dirty bathroom floor, poor unkeep in bathroom--sloppy caulking around shower door, built-up crud around shower area, couldn't get into shower without walking directly under shower head. Worst problem was the "modern" touch light switches---couldn't leave a light on in the bathroom to see your way there in the middle of the night. Difficult to use all lights. Dark décor--depressing and dark wallpaper installed poorly--all you noticed were the seams in the wallpaper
Location Room smelled, they tried to not offer our booked room type. Even after calling and confirming the day of.
Great access to grand central station, i.e. don't even have to go outside. Beautiful modern lobby, with dedicated elevators, so short wait times. Nice rooms, modern. Black mildew inside shower curtain. Did not swap out all towels after first evening so had to have face cloths and hand towels delivered. Maids talking in hallway while cleaning rooms early in the morning (my biggest pet peave).
I liked the location, it was perfect. Near to all the main attractions of New York. For a four star hotel, it has no complimentary water or coffee in the room which most hotels got. Not much value for money.
I did like the location and the fast check in. Room service was nice and fast! I did not like that I got a $30 per day upgrade and the room was still real small. Got a view of the side of another. Also, no shuttle to airport. Housekeeping didn't give extra towels at checkin as requested online. Wish I hadn't upgraded!
This location is awesome!!! Can not beat it! Room was too hot and would not cool Elevators were SLOW - seemed liked only one was working
Staff was very pleasant and it was simple to extend an additional night. Cost of marketplace!! Noise was easily heard in hallway.
Location was excellent. Lack of options in the neighbourhood for affordable food, unless you wish to tempt fate and eat from a cart of death on the street. Gave us some credit for our hot room. Room was hot, hot, hot. Ac could not keep up. Went down to front desk to ask for assistance. They tried to find a fan but could not( 2:30 am don't blame them). The next day we had to get maintenance up the next day and they found us a fan.
We were on the 36th floor and most of the elevators were broken during our stay. Was difficult getting to and from our room. We had to use the service elevator many times.
Very good ambiance in lobby and also bedroom. Very nice experience during entire stay. Closer access to all main attractions & restaurants in NewYork. Value for money in major city. No hotel valet parking so need to find other valet parking nearby.
It has everything you could need in a compact package! Great location! If it had a mini fridge and microwave it would be the best place to stay in NYC for the money!
Great shower and comfortable bed. Awesome location. Very small. Needed one more mirror and had a great place on the empty wall above the desk. Peep hole in the door had been pushed out and was filled with toilet paper. Bathroom sink was clogged up and wouldn't drain even after maintenance supposedly fixed it. Didn't have extra rolls of toilet paper and had to go to front desk to request more. Also no ice machine. Had to go downstairs to the bar and they looked at us like we were crazy when we ask them for a cup of ice.
location, honesty of one of the staff telling us not to eat there. e-mailed me one price, when I got to hotel, quoted me another price.
We loved the layout of the room, the cleanliness, the speed of the elevators. Even staying directly next to the elevator wasn't a problem. Staff were very nice. The glass wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom is a big problem for us. I can't think of anyone I'd be comfortable staying in this room with. If I were alone, it'd be great.
Location Everything other than location
It was my first trip to New York. I was really impressed by the staffs and everyone at Pod 39. Very efficient and valuable hotel in New York. The location is very convenience. The hotel room was comfortable for one person or two people. I'm surprised of how clean the room was. The hotel maintain the cleanliness very well. Very reasonable prices. I wish they had a small fridge.
Clean, compact and great for an overnight business trip You have to request an iron and ironing board ... other than that, it's fine.
Sure the room was tight but the bed was comfortable and everything worked fine in the bathroom. The location is wonderful and so is the value. I will return. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom facilities very good
I really enjoyed my stay at Pod39. The hotel was very nicely decorated, definitely a "trendy" hotel. I know they have many room options - I stayed in the bunk bed room which was very small and New York-like. The beds were really comfortable. I would most recommend this place for people traveling alone or with a small group (although the bigger rooms might be good for families - there is a bar/restaurant attached to the lobby, though, so keep that in mind). The price was quite good for an NYC hotel, and the location was great - I was able to walk to all the Broadway theatres as well as Koreatown near Herald Square. Also fairly close to a subway station and Grand Central. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here again! The room was so small there was no ironing board - I didn't ask the front desk what my options were because my clothes weren't that badly wrinkled, so there may be a way to get your clothes ironed. It's not that big of a deal, really!
Great location, at an NYC cheap price. The room got completely dark at night. I couldn't hear much noise from the street or any noise from other rooms. The hotel itself was well kept and I felt safe. The comforter on the bed was only mostly clean, and the door to the bathroom was dirty also. You can clearly hear whatever is going on in the hallway, even when your door is closed. The bed wasn't sower comfortable.
Great location, yes the rooms are small hence the name Pod however you're in New York, you're not really spending much time in them. The rooms are very modern and the shower is great.
Music at the lobby No toothpaste!
Location was perfect. My room and bathroom were very small, even cramped. I glanced in other rooms while housekeeping had them open and they were much more appropriate-sized. Perhaps my "low priced room" wasn't a bargain, but just the price of a small room.
Location The room had no AC, complain nothing happened, opened window, I could barely sleep because of the noise from outside
Accessibility/ location, customer service No sound insulation in rooms near elevators (room near elevator was outrageously loud because of elevator mechanism and doors continuously opening and closing). They moved our room, but could be a problem if hotel is full.
The rooms are perfect a d the beds are wonderful to sleep.the tv is perfect
Our room was nicely decorated and was clean. We also liked the fact that the hotel had water and coffee in the lobby. The hotel is centrally located, which made getting around the city very easy. The room was very small and it was difficult to maneuver around our one piece of luggage and each other in the bathroom. The wifi also wasn't secure.
Door man was not in a service. Luggage deposit payable even in waiting for the room clearance.
Wifi was great and entertainment and amenities on the ground floor were amazing. I had to change rooms because of the auto noise on the Lexington Avenue facing side.
The room was ok, was not too happy with my experience here. The place was a "4" star and the hallways my family and I smelled weed When I asked the valet parking to get please get my car "I was told it took 20 minutes " I waited 50 minutes and no one came to let me know my car was ready, and they knew I was wait for it.
Me and my girlfriend arrived to the hotel at 6pm. Check in time was 4pm but we were told we still had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the key? I would've understood if it was a computer problem but I wasn't given a reason as to why I had to wait.
Easy location. Noise levels from road were quite loud. You can't sit in the bar area without buying a drink, even if you are a hotel patron. I had forgotten my phone charge and the hotel staff was not helpful in providing a temporary replacement, perhaps from lost and found. Instead I was referred to an overpriced in-house gift shop trying to sell me a micro-usb cable for 15-20$. Check-in is late at 4:00 pm. Room was tiny.
Location, location, location. If you plan on walking and using the subway to get around the city the hotel is perfect as a home base to come back to if need be. Don't spend your time at the bar in the lobby...pretty pricey and you can just go to a hidden gem anywhere in the city. Also no room WiFi, but free in the lobby, so not too bad.
My wife and I stayed at the Palace many years ago and this stay was the first under Lotte's ownership. It's a big hotel, so it lacked the intimacy of some place like the Lowell Carlyle or the Plaza Athenee. That said, it's considerably less expensive, unless you are in the Towers. What I found remarkable was the consistency of staff attitude. Friendly, appropriately personal, attentive, and helpful. $50 for a simple breakfast (farro porridge with fruit, coffee, and a freshly made vegetable juice, was a new high (or low, depending on how you look at it) for New York. Delicious for sure, but pricey.
Staff was very cordial and gave excellent customer service. Charge for Wi-Fi was unexpected for a $700 a night room.
location room wasnt clean properly by housekeeping
Absolutely beautiful hotel in a great location! Loved my stay there!! Charging 16.00 per day for wifi is insane
Decor, location, cleanliness $16.00 for wifi
Our room directly overlooked St. Patrick's Cathedral and it was gorgeous. The room was spacious (unusual for NY), clean and comfortable. There's a wonderful café right off the beautiful hotel lobby for specialty coffees and French pastries, and the fitness center is amazing. Plenty of bar/restaurants within walking distance, as are many of the tourist attractions such as Rock Center. I would highly recommend this hotel, and will look into staying there again. There was nothing that I disliked about this hotel, although I would have preferred a lower internet rate (it is $16/day).
Nice ambiance. Good elevators to get to room efficiently Poor housekeeping. Bathroom smelled musty. They forgot to leave washcloths one time. Then forgot to leave shampoo another time. When we called for shampoo to shower took 1.5 hours to come. Also asked for blankets when checked in which never came.
Location, good neibourhood , good loung and snack shop . Also rooms were good side and clean with proper functioning bathroom. I wish they had a sit down restaurant of their own. Although they are close to restaurants on the street.
Staff was great, service excellent, rooms were huge in the Tower No coffe in room, very pricey to have sent to your room
Beautiful hotel, incredible view and far enough away from the craziness of Times Square but a pretty easy walk to wherever you want to go. I was skeptical because of the deal we got on hotels.com but it was an awesome spot! No closet in the hotel room.
Large rooms, excellent location
It was very quiet and had everything we needed. Location is a bit far from most subway entrances.
Very good location. nice people. perfect for single travelers. cool concierge and friendly staff
The location was great and the terrace in the back was quite nice. Also the free internet access was great! As I arrived late I did not get the single room I reserved instead one of the bunk bed rooms. The room was a bit run down and the TV did not work. Also it was quite noisy and smelled of beer as other travellers were partying in their room. What I really did not like was that they checked me out before the check out time.I returned to the hotel before 12pm to check out and all my things were gone. The staff put my belongings in a plastic bag and stored it at the front desk.
we were in bunk bed, very comfortable. had 4 toilets/showers on each floor. very clean. would def recommend this hotel and will stay here again
Great location, nice design, but very small and clean rooms. Staff was helpful. It is New York, folks!
The Pod Hotel is an excellent base for a city break to New York.We walked everwhere -Times Square,Central Park plus some great bars close to the hotel. The rooms were always spotless with clean towels every day. Ther is nothing to dislike about the Pod Hotel. It's such a cool place to stay!
helpful and friendly
Clean hotel. Amazing shower. Decent location. Tiny room. The cost was over £100 per night, with a shared bathroom, which was the cheapest I could find that wasn't a hostel.
the showers are fantastic, comfy beds, good location, all you need in new york if you stay in a room without bathroom, you end up walking back to your room in small towels unless you take all your clothes with you but it means risking getting them wet. Dressing gowns in the rooms would be really helpful
only reastroom in room very bad Location very far from new york and very far from time square and bad services also Tried to take the amount of $ 230 per night Note that I booked per night 115 USD
Friendly staff, great location shared bathrooms, small rooms, small uncomfortable bed/pod
Staff and room.
Location was great and staff were courteous. Decor is modern. Shower was dirty on arrival with hair from prior guest. When arriving we turned on the lights and a cockroach scurried across the floor. The room was hot and The air conditioner didn't work.
Clean and spacious room The only reason why i booked this hotel is for the rooftop and you guys completly ruined my stay by closing the rooftop for a private event the ONE day i booked. Good to know that no matter how much cash you shell out youll still get beat over the head because of rich people wanting to close off a whole area of a hotel. Horriible experience.
They charge $14.95 for wifi in your room. The Lobby furniture is very old no back support. & Very saggy
The complimentary happy hour in the lobby was a nice treat for hotel guests. Although, there seemed to be many attendees who were not hotel guests. I didn't like the smell in the hotel or my room. It smelled like pets and found out later the hotel was pet friendly - not a fan. I also didn't care for the decor in the hallways or room I stayed in. It seemed very dated and in desperate need of some modern updating. I also felt the complimentary toiletries were very disappointing and so was the $5.99 charge for printing tickets from a desk computer (labeled business center - very weak). The housekeeping service was very, very noisy each morning and the rooms weren't cleaned up to normal hotel standards.
Older building, recently updated. Lots of charm, yet very modern. Location wad terrific. Hotel was spotless. Pillows on bed were small.
Great location and valet parking
Whenever I visit NYC, I always stay at Affinia. Great hotel. Friendly staff, large clean rooms. Excellent location.
The rooms were large and well appointed. They were clean and quiet. A bit dark decor and lighting in the lobby area.
Great location and good price. The staff was friendly. On one of the days we stayed, the entire hotel's air conditioning was out for almost 24 hours. It was humid and very hot outside and we were traveling with an infant so we decided to come back to the hotel only to find it even more hot and muggy inside. They kept telling us the problem was being fixed but it wasn't until early morning the next day that it started working again. They apologized and gave us a discount but it was a miserable night with the baby. We had to ask for extra towels 4 times one day until we finally got them. There were at least 3 large cockroaches that we had to kill in the room - I know it's New York, I used to live there, but it's still uncomfortable to find them in a hotel that's supposed to be clean.
Nice staff very helpful great experience front desk excellent would recommend highly
Clean and modern bathroom, plenty of room for a nyc hotel room. The purified filtered water on every floor was amazing! The terrace was lovely.
Easy check in and check out - all on a computer. Nice staff, perfect location for business on the east side. My window was open the whole time and I couldn't figure out how to close it. The heating was VERY loud.
Friendly clean and fantastic location
Large suite but basic and near Grand Central and perfectly adequate for a city trip. Hotel needs a makeover. No double glazing so rooms at front has lots of traffic noise. No blankets in room or spare pillows. Old and tired! We asked concierge about travel detais on the subway and he simply shrugged his shoulders and left us to find out ourselves.
There was hot water and that's literally about the only thing I can think of that I liked about this hotel. If you've stayed at any other Curio hotel and are thinking this will be a similar experience, I've got bad news for you: this is an awful hotel. 1. The room layout is horrible, most of the rooms face the brick wall of an adjacent building (and you can hear their external AC window units running); 2. the AC is tiny and cannot properly cool the rooms (which are VERY tiny by NYC standards); 3. The elevators are slow, bumpy, and small causing you to wait 15 minutes to catch one not full of people and luggage; 4. The room service is not up to any normal standards. They have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers in the shower which are empty and surrounded by mold and mildew -- a health nightmare; 5. NOISE: expect to hear anyone cough, sneeze, turn on a lamp, or zip up a bag from an adjacent room or any room on your floor; and 6. Poor bathroom layout -- there is NO room to put anything on the counter in the bathroom. Don't expect to get ready very easily in this hotel as there is no full-length mirror either! This should NEVER received the Curio brand from Hilton. The hotel is by far the biggest disappointment I've ever seen as a Diamond member.
Excellent Location for city break. View from room window.
Simplicity Small room, but it's ok
Location beside central station, suite was big and had fridge and coffee maker which is essistial when u have been out shopping all day Could have drinks machine in lobby (bottle water etc)
Very close to Grand Central Station and the Metro and also a good location for walking to many of the major attractions.
Although an old hotel, everything was very clean. Poor window isolations, you have to keep the air conditioning on all the time to avoid street noizes. As everything about NYC accomodations, the prices are ridiculously high.
Location Bad functioning TV, old TV models. Poor internet wi-fi.
plenty of room the road works but that's New York
Staff very prompt, room was not as booked but problem was dealt with very quickly. Even though we were on the 16 floor it was still very noisy
the closeness to Grand central and the faclities of central New York could not be better bathrooms could do with an upgrade but a relatively minor problem
Location Good deals always have windows against next building with no view
The location and friendly staff
Easy to get to fom Laguardia. Room nice, clean , quiet, temperature control worked well, staff efficient and nice. Twenty min walk to Harold Squire, MSG, Penn Station, 5 min to Grand Central. Good value hotel.
Great Staff, very good location for us. Were always cheerful from the front desk to front door and especially the service people. Would recommend outright with the exception of noise. Had very noisy neighbors next to us. Sound traveled easily through the walls. Traffic noise was also pretty apparent.
The location is great for anyone coming from Long Island. I really like knowing that Kimpton always welcomes pets. Fire alarm battery needed to be replaced. I ended up taking it out to make the beeping stop. I told the front desk, but they didn't seem bothered. The thermostat was held to the wall with tape. It came loose and the batteries did as well. I don't know if I received awards points or not, but I'm not sure I care. Kimpton wouldn't honor the lower price I found on hotels.com; so, I didn't book the room through them.
The location was great. Walking distance to Grand Central Station. The bathroom was clean and the bed was really comfortable. The staff were friendly and the concierge was somewhat helpful. The first thing I noticed is that the staff were not dressed very neatly. As I struggled with my bags and getting into the lobby the doorman didn't help at all. Then when I got up to my floor I smelled a strange odor, almost like a skunk, and then in my room it smelled like mildew the entire time I was there. I had to spray my cologne all over the room so I wouldn't smell it when I was trying to fall asleep. The blanket on the bed looked dirty like it was covered in dog hair so I didn't even touch that and also everything felt sticky in the room. I also didn't receive a courtesy call to assure everything was ok with the room.
Staff was awesome and very accomodative Free Raid-The-Mini-Bar Card Rooms were tiny (even by NY standards) Hotel felt a bit claustrophobic in general
The staff was excellent. Small bathrooms. Phone system not working properly.
Rooms were large (for New York) and comfortable. Bathroom was large. Staff was friendly. Very close to Grand Central Terminal. Quiet at night. Food prices at Silverleaf were not posted and VERY high!
Enjoyed comfortable beds, coffe shop and evening wine that was complimentary. Stayed there with wife and two teenage children - bathroom was too small!
The staff was so nice and went above and beyond to be as helpful as they could. Mario was a wonderful door man that was able to compensate the trouble we had with our door. Chris and Danny helped my mom and I get metro cards so we could use the subway to travel around the city. Danny physically walked us to the train station to show us where to buy the metro cards. We had issues with the door to our room the entire stay, the key card wouldn't work after ten minutes of being programmed.
I liked the view of the New York skyline from my room. The hotel was very clean and nice.
Staff was more than friendly. Great room views and good location. The room was excellent, the windows could have used a cleaning but no big deal. I would go back.
Nothing No pool they need to scrub the internet & take down every mention of having a pool. FALSE ADVERTISING & they were not apologetic at all. You google this place it lists it having a pool big mess for kids
the bed is very comfortable if we hadn't set alarms would have slept the whole day. the amenities in the room alone are a nice add. the staff was efficient and helpful. there were gnats in the shower and when we checked out and had to leave the bags at the desk the bellman took about 20 minutes to show up and help us.
Clean, very friendly staff and comfortable accommodations. Wall were thin, we could hear entire conversations going on at all times.
Location -- close to UN where our meeting was held; Small, crowded lobby; no bell boy service for luggage; only one courtesy phone in the lobby;
The hotel is located across the street from the UN Headquarters, where I had a meeting. There are many reasonably priced and good restaurants nearby.
Great staff loved the security dog in lubby To get in shower was quote slippery and shower head in a weird place
View of the east river. Small, odly shaped rooms. Door opens into a narrow passage so you have to do a dance to get into the room. Windows are small, so feel cramped inside.
The One UN New York was very comfortable and well maintained. I particularly liked its proximity to the UN Headquarters, where I was attending a meeting. An added plus was the great views from my room to the south and west, so I could see the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building.
The small bar in the lobby. Friendly staff Good general location Too expensive for outdated rooms especially bathroom. Internet connectivity could be better and included in the price.
I liked the location of this hotel. It is close to United nations building. The room was very clean and overall ambience of the hotel is quite good. I would like to stay again in this hotel.
Nothing. Third party booked stay then went bankrupt. No email or advance notice. Hotel receptionist extremely rude and antagonistic. Not enough decency to offer comparable rate to alleviate situation. Never again.
FYI the rooms are real real small. Didn't bother me.
Near to Grand Central Roadside noise was too loud
Great location, comfy beds Initial room was unmade, shower was clogged, but issues were rectified immediately when brought to their attention Wifi is not free
We loved the comfort, location, staff helpfulness, cleanliness & smooth functioning.
Nice efficient hotel and very conveniently located. The room was of okayish size. The attached washroom was rather awkward - can't lock the door and the wash basin was too small leading to water spilling all over the place. One day the room could not be cleaned and when we complained, the manager himself came for the apology and also offered compensating action which was very nice of him.Elevators are quick. Washroom
Hotel stay was right on point after a long day thanks
Very close to the subway and Grand Central Station. 24 hour luggage storage after checkout and the staff was very friendly. It is on a busy street due to the location and you can hear some traffic from the room but it wasn't too loud, especially for NYC it wasn't too bad.
Easy access to Grand Central and in the heart of NYC.
Elizabeth in housekeeping was a tremendous help in getting bedding and towels for us!!! She was pleasant while we were all very angry about the bed situation. Thank you Elizabeth! Long wait for checkin. Need more staff at front desks. I reserved a room with 2 double beds for 4 people. I called twice to confirm and reiterate that I wanted 2 double beds. At checkin I said I needed 2 double beds(this was at 1:30pm) Receptionist said yes I see that is what you requested. I was told room was not ready and they would call be about 3pm when room was ready which they did. Again, a long wait for receptionist, she gave me keys to room which had a king size bed and pull out sofabed!!! I called front desk to get a room with 2 double beds as I requested and they said they had no more and because I booked with a third party (travelocity) they could do nothing about it as rooms are not guarenteed (bed types). I am angry about this situation and will rethink ever staying at a Westin hotel and I will also rethink about using travelocity.
only bad thing was the small rooms other than that it was good
Hotel was fantastic. BIG, clean room, we had a Jr. Suite and the wine hour in the lounge was great. Considering the location and the price, I don't think we could have done better.
i loved the room and its furnishings i loved the location i loved the concierge staff i did not find the front desk staff particularly helpful or inclined to help with standard questions or requests the street noise on the 5th floor was pretty extreme, in so far as construction could be felt through the bed at all hours of the day and night.
room and towels wee clean and shower was pleasant. the wifi is expensive to purchase. reserved a king bed was told that i an only get room with the double. Heat was terrible in winter NYC could not get heat tried to change room but the heat situation was the same..
The staff was outstanding! The room was large, clean and easy to do work on business projects, read and relax in. It was quiet. Convenient location with good restaurants nearby.
Huge room, very clean. Staff was very courteous. Noise from consturction across thestreet was annoying, but not noticable as long as you run the fan.
All of the staff were incredibly warm and engaging. The door man's guest engagement and sincere care for an outstanding experience was remarkable and memorable. That interaction alone would cause me to choose FiftyNYC on my next visit to New York.
Helpful staff Error on booking + noisy
The room, on the 3rd floor overlooking the front entrance, was spacious by NY standards & well equipped. The room was very clean & the bed as very comfortable with a choice of pillows. Staff were helpful & polite. On the downside because the room was on the 3rd floor it was quite noisy during the night with refuse trucks & deliveries etc. NY is a busy place though so I don't think it's the hotels fault.
Staff were very nice! Clean room!
The staff were really friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and well appointed, the location was great, handy to everything.
The location was perfect, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The room (suite) was spacious considering how small some NYC hotel rooms can be. Although this can't be avoided, the two elevators servicing all 23 floors were slow.
Good location with helpful staff Cramped rooms not well maintained.
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful, rooms were very clean and more comfortable than home.
We went to NYC just before Christmas and could not have been happier with this hotel. Although our room was small, we did not spend much time in the room and therefore it did not bother us! The staff was so friendly and helpful and the location was amazing! We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to the city!
it was central and close to the bus pick up for Javits centre no cafe style dining
Clean and comfortable upscale hotel with a very friendly and accommodating staff. The restaurant pricing, especially for breakfast, is out of control.
Rooms are quite larger, ceilings high. Decor is modern but not colorful. Still some areas under construction
Location was good for walking but, I was very dissappointed at how dirty smelling the lobby was. I stayed in NYC before and after a trip to the Galapagos. On the way down I stayed at a Hilton and on th way back I spent a little extra to end the holiday on a high note and chose the Intercontinental. In Asia Intercon hotels are luxurious and wonderful. The Intercon Barclay was a big dissappointment. The smell in the lobby for all 3 days was sour and foul. It reminded me of a gym locker. I hated walking through the lobby and sometimes you could smell it on the stairs before you even entered the building. Considering I paid about 100 dollars more a night then the Hilton, which was only three streets away, the room was very small and cramped. The bathroom was also very small, dirty, and the grout in the tile had not been cleaned well
the location was good for the purpose of my business trip the bathroom was the size of a small closet with the smallest tub I have ever seen. the internet did not work for two days and on one day I had a cold water shower. Definitely not a 5 star hotel other than their prices and flower arrangement in the lobby
room was shabby; breakfast personnel unfriendly.
The room service prices seem a bit excessive
The staff were always helpful and the hotel was in a great location to shopping, Times Square and Grand Central Station The shower used cloth shower curtains so that by the second shower the water would wick out to the second curtain and onto the floor. Also there is no fan in the bathroom so it was a bit steamy when you got out.
Location good. No facility for making tea in the rooms. The extracters in the bathrooms did not work. Complementary Tea/coffee in lobby stopped at 7am.Basic internet facility should be complementary. the bathrooms are too small.
The lobby is beautiful and the location is great. Upon arrival to an already expensive hotel, I was told I had to pay a MANDATORY fee for "free wifi and a 10% food voucher and gym use". I didn't want any of that, but was forced to pay anyway. I was woken up by housekeeping next door at 5:55am - no apology when I left at 6am because I couldn't sleep. The room was dusty and not very clean and I ended up taking the stairs from the 12th floor because the elevators were sloe, though those issues were nothing compared to the terrible hours and ridiculous fees. Do not stay here.
Everything was pleasant except the amount of external noise you can hear in your room, both from inside the hotel halls and the street noise. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Excessive noise from external sources
It's located near major attractions and it's the room assigned to my family and myself is a good size room. That it did not include continental breakfast
Location was great Elevators were impossible. Had to wait upwards of 10-15 minutes for an elevator to reach the 10th floor, every single time we used them. Actually opted to take the stairs a few times to save time. Toilet in the room ran for almost 5 minutes after every flush. We were locked out of our room at 1130am, 30 minutes prior to checkout time. The "breakfast bar" in the hotel lobby had nothing but coffee and 2 bananas left at 10am, with no other options provided. We did not get a receipt at checkout, either, nor was one emailed to us. And lastly, we waited for almost 30 minutes for our car to be brought around at checkout because the driver was waiting for the doorman to call him to come around (which he did as soon as we came outside).
In general the staff was nice and accommodating. In particular the concierge named Aisha (spelling?) was extremely kind and helpful. The room was clean, and got the job done. I would stay here again as it was a great value and location. My 'Cosy Queen' was pretty small. If I had another person sharing the room, it would have definitely been too small. But for myself it was fine, but not for the clastrophobic!
More dining, social areas
I liked the location and for the most part the room was clean and the bed was nice. I didn't like how most of the hotel was not updated and the valet service took a while.
Checked in after a long flight from Australia at 11pm. Room was not made up and bathroom was disgusting. Went to receptionist who allocated us another room - same result. Demanded a refund, and went and checked in at the Westin. Very disappointed.
Extremely small rooms. Loud air conditioner. Needs work
I went with my girlfriend and her 17yr old sister. Everything was perfect. The front desk personnel were more then accommodating and the room was beautiful. the hotel itself was great. I couldn't have asked for anything more!!
Historic property. They don't make them like this any more. Elevators were very slow and jam packed with people at peak hours. Also, there are lots of stairs in lobby making accessibility a challenge for disabled.
The location for the cost is imcomparable. I will definitely put this on the list next time. Front desk and bar staff were not service oriented. Bar prices are... well... it's NYC.
We really enjoyed the Kitano Hotel. We went as a family to enjoy a weekend there but I used to be a travel agent and this is the perfect location for a business trip to New York depending on where your office is. It's at the corner of Park and E. 38th. We got it through Kayak and simply picked it for price and location. It ended up being the perfect hotel for us. It's located very close to Grand Central Station and therefore easy train access to the rest of Manhattan but it's location also lended itself to walking. There are a few nice restaurants in that area that we enjoyed walking to and, of course, a Starbucks just a little over a block away. The hotel is basic in what it offers but what it does offer is nice. We ate lunch at one of its restaurants and it was very good food and the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. We didn't eat there for dinner but we heard pleasant music coming from one of their restaurants as we walked out one night. The rooms are small and rather basic but that's all we needed for our purposes. We don't spend time in our hotel when we are in a city like New York so it all worked out. The beds are surprisingly comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Overall I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Manhattan for family or business travel. It was all great and we'd stay there again. Frankly we loved this hotel but the rooms were a little small. If you need room to spread out you'd need to go elsewhere. We had two adults and an adult "kid" and we found it just fine for our purposes though so this was not a problem for us at all.
We traveled to NYC to watch a friend run in the NYC Marathon. The Kitano was walking distance to Grand Central Station. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. We asked to store or bags, because we arrived several hours early. They were able to have a room available for us within 10 minutes. The room was great. We would definitely stay again and recommend it without any reservation.
service was outstanding!!
Larger room, bathroom large enough, shower worked well, friendly accommodating.staff. Later checkout time, shouldn't charge for computer access.
Location was excellent - great for for shopping in midtown. Staff was very helpful and customer-oriented. Room was on the small side but well laid out. Hotel restaurant has live music concerts.
Service, service, service! What a welcome surprise, a hotel with carrying employees! Bravo! Room would have been too small for 2 people but it was fine for 1
Common areas were nice! Restaurant was very nice and elegant. The staff was exceptionally friendly and truly helpful. Shower needs improvement and even repair. Besides the shower, bathroom was very good for NYC. Bed was very soft and pillows were mediocre.
Terrific location. Guest Services were very helpful. Housekeeping was not up to par with rest of hotel features and services.
The staff on all levels were extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel is centrally located so we were able to walk to most of our destinations. The rooms were very clean and the amenities were very nice and upscale. Highly recommend! I didn't stay long enough to try the restaurant in the hotel. I want to book another visit soon or at least try to visit the restaurant on a future visit, even if I can't stay at the Kitano!
The 27th floor lounge
Nice staff Generally clean Great Restaurant A great basic hotel for someone on business by themselves who does not need many extras. No real hotel lobby Machine coffee No real concierge Very small room for a couple with 2 suitcases No real breakfast (snack bars put out)
Everything works. Very efficient use of space. Nice restaurant downs stairs. GREAT location across the street from GCT. No front desk to speak of. Off putting at first, but it works well.
A lot of street noise and elevator noise from my room Are there any Whitehouse options?
We thought the place was clean and a good value for the money spent. It was an excellent location. Room was small but we expected that in NYC.
Great staff, very nice room Shower door jambed
Room size was bigger than avg. in NYC Mattress was comfortable Zero noise on 14F TV was great quality Pillows were uncomfortable to rest on. Nothing else we found uncomfortable or bad to review. that's it. SP
The room was bigger than we anticipated. It was really big. The location is great; very close to grand central station. It was quiet and better than staying in times square. There were several restaurants near by and 5th avenue was just a few blocks away. Hotel staff was very nice and helpful. We were pleased. The fixtures in the bathroom were coming off the walls. Cleanliness was a tiny bit off. Looked like either blood or ketchup on the curtains (I am going with ketchup). Need to stay above 7th floor or you will hear the music from the lounge. Could have used a microwave/refrigerator.
Two of the four front desk staff with whom I interacted were incredibly helpful and friendly; the other two not so much (see negatives). Great beds, nice rooms. Ideal location. I had lost my phone in a local taxi and the driver tried to return it to me a few hours later when it was discovered. The front desk staff on the night shift refused to call my room to let me know she had it. Subsequently, the entire next day I was making calls to try to locate it. I even asked Front desk if anything had been reported and turned in and they said NO. Several hours later, she called me and delivered to me in person, noting that she attempted the night before to get the phone to me with no luck and no cooperation. Unbelievable! Thanks to incompetent night time desk staff, I spent the entire day wondering where my phone was. They could have rang my room and told me she had the phone. I was very annoyed by this. Big negative in my view.
14th floor room was VERY quiet. Great for NYC.
Staff was amazing, room was fabulous. I usually stay at the Dream-Downtown and the rooms here are bigger (as is the bathroom). Overall a great value for my money. No actual lobby or bar to hang out in..
The bed was really comfortable and the room very quiet for New York. I think the shower was recently renovated and was terrific. The rain-style shower head was mounted high so that you didn't have to duck under it and there was also shower wand if you needed it. I also loved that the HD TV had HD cable so that we weren't constantly watching images that were squeezed or stretched. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The only negative was that they're remodeling the bar and restaurant so there was no food or drink available other than room service and the continental breakfast. When that's finished it should be a big improvement.
Unbelievably, my tiny room did not have a dresser. When I inquired about this the indifferent desk manager told me that the smaller rooms sometimes did not come with one! Living in this room out of my bag for five nights was a joy. Upon check out, there were three different staff members at the desk, none of whom could comprehend that there was not a dresser. So they went to check it out --- and big surprise, no dresser. (Apparently they were concerned that I was blind.) No apology, no offer of discount, no reasonable explanation. Had it not been a completely packed week in New York, I would have fled the first night. Oh, the shades didn't work properly either. Never again.
Issue with we form in first two categories. I was a business/solo traveler. The rating section was operating.
Room size comfort cleanliness and contemporary A little further from Times Square than I expected and the staff was unfriendly
Doorman - Matthew Kelly - excellent. Over crowded breakfast room.
that it was a suite with a kitchenette
Excellent staff, easy to get to the hotel, location couldn't be better breakfast wasn't good enoguh, some fruit or cereal would be apreciated
Extremely friendly staff; super-clean rooms that were good in size for NYC and the workout facilities were clean. The usual hotel soaps, shampoos, etc. were all Aveda products, which were a nice touch. Reviews I'd read before booking said the breakfast was nothing special and that was accurate. It was a continental breakfast - coffee, juice, toast/bagels, yogurt and cottage cheese. For the price it would have been nicer to have at least cereal and/or oatmeal with milk as an option.
Very nice hotel, large room, and extremely pleasant staff. Hard to say it was a deal at $289/night, but it is NY. I've stayed in lousy places for $200/night, so I'd gladly take this option. I highly recommend.
The hotel was in a great area, convenient to everything! It was a really nice hotel and staff were friendly and extremely helpful!
The staff is very helpful with whatever your needs are, the rooms are very clean and the hotels location is great. (5 min walk from 5th avenue) The breakfast was, as most hotels abroad, not up to norwegian standards.
Staff was great. Location was perfect for us. We would stay there again Did not get king rooms. We were told it was upon request. Nothing in our paper work indicated this.
Good sized room with good facilities. Friendly and efficient staff who made you most welcome. Lifts that were fast and efficient. Excellent internet facilities
The staff was great. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Free Wifi and breakfast a real bonus! Close to subway stations. Great Location!! Construction noise next door is very annoying!!
It was a small hotel and very quiet. The breakfast needs some upgrading.
Complementary breakfast was was skimpy.
