The hotel has a comfy atmosphere. the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was excellent since it was close to Bayswater station (5 min walk) and Queensaway street with many international restaurants and convenience stores. The room and bathroom were extremely small. Barely enough room for one person to walk around. The corridors were narrow and claustrophobic, and the elevator was as small as a phone booth!
Staff Very small room, not suitable as double. Gave up on breakfast, no glasses for fruit juice, no plates, and not much food left. We were not the only dissatisfied guests.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The beds were nice and the location is perfect for those who want to see all of London. The room we were in was tiny. There was barely enough space for the bed, let alone for two big bags. The water pressure in the shower is very poor and during the last two days of our stay, there was no warm water in the hotel. The boiler was defect and couldn't be fixed in time. The hotel taxi charged more then the pre-agreed price, eventhough we repeated the address twice.
Inexpensive, good location, modern fittings, quite stylish (until you looked closely), wonderful lobby, clean Plumbing was appalling - very poor hot water pressure, window wouldn't open and radiator was too powerful for size of room, v small room
the building is very impressive. Breakfast and reception staff very amiable and attentive. Room was quiet. nothing springs to mind
Size of the room is too small
Great location, quiet room, staff friendly, historic building Horribly, almost comically small room; breakfast overpriced; almost no water pressure in shower
the room was great although very small there was no hot water at the hotel... in winter.... and I was only informed when I got there to check in.
Very nice and clean, fast check-in and out and very friendly staff Rooms are a bit small, but beautiful
Good rate, good standard, nice hotel Rooms far too small, shower did not work, no pressure.
we arrived at the hotel to find the boiler had broken and as such, would have to move hotel. To the hotels credit, they moved us to another 4 star hotel in a better location, the marlebone hotel just off bond street. So all was well after a shaky start. The grand royal did look a lovely hotel from the lobby, just a pity we didn't get to see the room.
We liked your new bathroom and toilets, and the window view, and breakfast absolutely perfect..... but could be nice to invest some money into better mattraces :O( that was very poor condition and pillow etc as well.... :O( such a great location, but i do prefer a quality sleep in comfortable bed.... I dont mid no lift in a hotel, i dont mind bathroom and toilets separate... so if in future your bedding and beds are in better quality, i will definately return back :O)
Location, initial impressions of reception and lounge. Bedroom was basic as an understatement and not what I was expecting. The 3 single beds would more suit lodging workmen than tourists.
I felt the staff wre very pleasant and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed being so close to my destination (on the Mall) and being able to walk through St James Park to get there every day. It would have been helpful for breakfast to be available earlier than 7.30 start. I felt the shared showers were a definite drawback, and a deterent for further bookings. The room was basic and the sink in my room was cracked. My room was street-side and I didn't sleep well at all due to noise : I strongly recommend anyone thinking of booking to book a room overlooking the park!
Location, staff work are exellent, I have got enough for the money I paid A litttle renovation of the room I had would be a great idea
There were no good points whatsoever - sorry one, street parking was free over night but then that was nothing to do with the Hotel Poor Description of Hotel, its more a Hostel than hotel. Foreign reception staff unable to answer any questions. Over hot, terrible dirty rooms, noisy and then we get to the bathrooms... Which I will not go into. This place should be condemmed
Quiet, good location, good breakfast Really old and in need of upgrading, specially old filthy carpets!
the location - it's really close to Victoria Station. And the room we stayed in was very quiet, another plus for the hotel. The buidling is run down, the staff is unfriendly and breakfast does not open before 8 a.m. Facilities are clean, but smelly.
Two things: location and cleanliness The hotel staff was not so helpful and kind.
The location was excellent - within walking distance to all the tourist attractions. comfortable, clean bed Would have been nice to have had en suite facilites.
Very close to London City No
Great location, rooms extremely clean and new, good big beds, staff very nice and helpful. Breakfast quite reasonably priced.
Very enjoyable and comfortable. I was made very welcome from my arrival to my departure. I lost my gate access control at the hotel, which your staff discovered and made immediate contact and arrangements to return. I would stay again. No tea and coffee making facilities in the room. No trouser press in the room.
Staff are very helpful, rooms very clean and location excellent. I always get a quiet night at Sydney House. Only improvement would be coffee making in the room.
I liked the location and as we stayed at the weekend there were plenty of parking outside the hotel and around the area. Fulham road and South Ken are within walking distance although King's Road was a bit further up the road. The staff were friendly and called us on our mobile to say we can have an early check in. We got a favourable rate from booking.com which made it good value for money.
Friendly small town house feel to it. Felt like it was your London pad. Rooms clean and comfortable albeit not particularly large.
Location, cleanliness of the rooms, the look and feel, the cosy feeling of boutique small hotels instead of large business ones Rooms would benefit from an Iron and ironing board
Attractive modern refurbishment of a small row house in a quiet area. Bit cramped !
lovely modern room, clean and fresh, felt like living in a friend's very swish townhouse, diecreet. peaceful and elegant bath tub drain slow
Standard room a bit small - good though!
Courteous Hotel staff & bedroom furnishings Somewhat noisy with other patrons at times
i can honestly say the location is the only good thing about the hotel The hotel was shabby with holes in the walls and work half finished. The showers took (no joke) 10 minutes to get hot but not even to the correct temperature. The continental breakfast was only toast and tea/coffee!!A very budget hotel!!
A well-mannered receptionist, and he offered a refund as soon as it turned out it was not the room we'd booked. We'd booked a triple room, what we were given was a double room with an extra bed. We tried to explain there is a difference, but the receptionist told us it was a triple room! The room was untidy, the "furniture" was broken, there was one towel and one bed cover (no sign of blankets!) for three of us.
the staff went out of there way to help wiyh anything. maybe they could a add acooked breakfast but that would be the only down side.
it's very close to Victoria Station. My room was newly renovated. Friendly staff.
The bed was comfortable, the breakfast was good and the Reception staff helpful.
It was quiet
Clean rooms, pleasent neighborhood and convenient location to popular attractions. In room coffee and soap were not replenished after the first night of our four night stay. The bathroom was quite small and cramped.
manager and staff friendly and helpful, very welcoming and attentive - lovely! we will stay here again definately nothing
we enjoyed the Breakfast served bath room was very small
Staff were very welcoming and location is extremely good. Rooms are very rundown and shabby, although clean.
Friendly staff, complimentary soft drink on arrival
Breakfast facilities were good. Was not re-assure when fire alarm was triggered three times during the night
Location and comfort
Room was not large but very well decorated and had everything we needed eg comfy bed(queen size),tea/coffee making.air con(which we needed), a quiet room per my request and a full roomy bathroom. Very adequate.
The bathtub was nice and the mattress put us to sleep. Decor was interesting and the tv was large. It is very close to the tube and attractions making it useful to walk to many attractions in South Kensington and Westminister. The room was small (drawers could not be opened without adjusting other furniture). The ambiance was not pleasant, borderline spooky. The staff fumbled with almost everything and were unclear about important details.
Nothing about the hotel apart from its location. The hotel is shabby, run down and dirty. My room was totally inadequate and the smallest room I have ever stayed in. It was impossible to open the bathroom door and get in without clambering over the bed! The noise of the neighbouring rooms shower at 5am was like a jet plane coming through the room. I could go on but am trying to forget the Gainsborough experience. I will be consulting trip advisor.
I chose it because it was central and it was lovely to be able to get to shops and galleries/museums so quickly. Also wonderful decor in the public rooms. The desk lamp was not working; it seemed that for the price we paid it would have been usual to expect all the facilities to be in working order. It was mentioned to the desk but as we were only there for one night it was not possible to fix it in time.
I really enjoyed my breakfast. I chose the cooked breakfast and thought that the food was very good and the service was good. The dining room was very elegant with a relaxing atmosphere. Although I did think my bed was very comfortable which is unusual for me in hotels I was disappointed with my room which was a de-luxe twin. The beds took up too much room and it was difficult to get into the hanging area as the door couldn't open properly because of the one bedside cabinet. Also our clothes felt damp and cold in the morning.
We stayed at The Gallery- it was changed because we read a review that the Gainsborough had a problem with noise from nightclub next door Our room was very dusty and the double bed was a small queen size bed which was too small for two of us to share comfortably- it had a very old mattras which was very uncomfortable- otherwise the room was quite attractive
The hotel was beautiful, and the room was very elegant and comfortable. The staff were very helpful, although they were busy
Perfect location for the museums - very quiet street and good sized room. Staff were helpful and attentive.
Friendly staff. Location. Tiny old room. No heating in the bathroom.
The location was okay and the hotel was clean. The staff was particularly unhelpful and not attentive. No one would look at us, let alone say hello when we entered the lobby. Our room was a "family room" with four beds crammed into a room meant for two. If you can't accommodate four people then don't say you can. We were also in the basement next to the breakfast area. Not only was the set-up crew noisy at 6AM, our smoke alarm went off at 7AM because of toast in the toaster.
The hotel was situated in a nice quiet spot with pleasant, clean rooms and friendly staff. Breakfasts were ok, but often ran out of plates, or cutlery, or hot water and had to wait for resupply. Not really well organised in that respect.
Very nice hotel and excellent hotel staff!!! Thank you for a pleasent stay!
Every thing was o.k No
the receptionnist was very nice the size of the room. even though we were staying 4 nights i think they gave us one of the if not the smallest room in the hotel
The size of the room and bathroom (for London standard) Excellent location Breakfast was very basic
good location - close to tube stations/shops, friendly staff the world's smallest room (could not move!), pictures on website not at all like actual hotel, very basic decor (far from "luxurious, tasteful and elegant" as advertised) basic breakfast, no complimentary book in room as advertised, only 1 teabag on hospitality tray in room, constant background noise of generator outside
Stayed here with my 16-year-old son for three nights; nice area; desk staff was courteous; we were able to check in a couple hours early; lots of food markets and restaurants nearby; this is a fine/functional hotel-- nothing tremendous but nothing horrible; a good value for $100 per night this close to Hyde Park There was some street noise as groups of people staying in the surrounding hotels were walking up and down the street at night; rooms are small, but what I expected for a four-star hotel in London
We had a room where the air conditioning was exiting and was noisy all night and also very hot! Poor service, not English speaking staff, poor value for the money!
The staff were friendly and efficient but the best feature was the location - close to Kensington Gardens and Bayswater tube. The room was beautifully clean The use of blankets seems to be a bit of a time warp especially in London.
The location Everything was ok actually
friendly staff, clean and well-furnished rooms
quiet room, cozy atmosphere, perfect location for visits to Shakespeare's Globe and Tate Modern big noisy tv in the breakfast room
small and quiet
Good location for shops, shows etc. Staff most welcoming on arrival. Most comfortable bed slept on for a long time! Bit disappointed on Sunday when returned from shopping, starving, before journey home to discover that kitchens were having 'deep clean' and there was only one packet of crisps available to purchase!
nice staff very clean. good size room. very good location.
Convenient location specific to our trip. Room quiet and very comfortable Cooked breakfast could have been better. We should have stuck with the continental breakfast.
Helpfulness of the staff
Good quality at the same price level.
Location and Service We wanted to add a cot to our room and was informed that only three rooms are capable of this and our room wasn't one of them and the hotel was booked all up. If I knew this I would of asked at the time of the booking. Everything worked out in the long run because the staff were awesome and treated us like gold!
Nice hotel, spacious room, everthing worked Slight delay on checkout - I had to leave early and the night porter didn't really seem geared to checking me out.
Great location and transport available 24 hrs. Close to many tourist attractions. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Free internet and McDonalds right next to the hotel. The bathroom was bit small, but alright.
the co-resident mouse in next twin bed.! probably the mouse
Staff was nice. A kettle!!
Speaking on behalf of the guests:The location and rate. I am speaking on behalf of the guests:The receptionist was rude when I asked what room number we were staying in, as he sarcastily said 'of course I will tell you your room number', he showed no charm or any concept of what a receptionist's attitude should be vis a vis good customer service, a smile doesn't cost anything and means a lot. He would actually put you off going there again and indeed the group I am speaking on behalf of won't, nor recommend it.
the access from the rail sation, buses stop was good and easy to reach
The location - far from the center and not very secure.
Basic, but clean, cheap and perfect WLAN. Keep in mind there is no breakfast served and the neighbourhood is really outside central London.
Friendly reception,Television and shower. and nice and quiet!.
the hotel was clean comparing to the standard no reception 24h
The room was clean, warm, close to the centre of the city.
