friendly staff not really the same quality as other Hiltons where I have previously stayed - restaurant was ok, service was good, but food was served almost cold, selection of beverages (only 2 kinds of port), rooms were small (although efficient and modern). Slightly below expectations.
Nice Location. Near Cologne Dom.
Very good staff. Very good location. Great room! Way too much dressing on the ceaser salad (specialty).
Professional and helpful staff
The hotel room was lovely and comfortable and the staff were very helpful
Room was clean and modern. Bathroom door did not close.
Staff and facilities were all first rate. Wonderful full breakfast and good value for the price.
Location Small room with High Heating even if Disconnected! Solution indicated by reception was .....Open the window!!!
Everything was just fine, no problem to find the hotel coming from the main train station, receptionist was nice, helpful and fast. The room was quite big, clean and well organized. Modern, big & clean bathroom. We loved it there!
central, modern, stylish food was very expensive
Very good hotel, with nice clean rooms. It was very hard to find, don't walk too far up the main road.
The hotel was in the heart of cologne, near to everything and also at a quiet area The walls between rooms were not isolated very well; you can feel and hear the movement of your neighbour in his room
Great hotel near central station and secure outside hotel could be more international dinner! No
The room had a perfect temperature and a comfy bed. The cosy swimming-pool and jacuzzi till 10 p.m. The breakfast was really good, with fresh orange juice and many kinds of brewed tea. The personnel was friendly and nice. I appreciated reasonable prices for food (that was tasty) and drinks in the bar during the day. Just three minutes walking from the cathedral and shopping area. I was thirsty on my arrival, and the first thing I saw in my room was the high price for mineral water. I did not like the parking area just in the opposite side of the street. The street itself, though very close to the tourist venues, is empty and a bit scaring. I was shocked to see naked (and not too attractive) people in the sauna, but I was told later that it might be a part of national culture.
Very good location. Great room size.
The bedroom was large and comfortable. The bathroom also was well equiped with shower and bath. There were many things we did not like. The room was not well cleaned, bed not properly made, just pulled straight, and had no clean sheets or anything during a 5 night stay. I think 19 euros is too much for a breakfast charge and 9euro for a bottle of water in the restaurant without a " would you like an expensive bottle of water?" Was outrageous!! The menu in the restaurant was incomprehensable in its layout. This was a big drawback as there were no other restaurants in the vicinity.
I liked the design of my room and the perfectly planned usage of spaces. the breakfast is delicious and the staff is very helpful and gentle. I also liked the location, about 300 mts of the Cologne cathedral.
the breakfast room, staff and choice rooms with japanese standards, awful decoration (big portrait inside a small room), no apologies from the staff, rates are the same for a 7 square meter room or a 12sqm, noisy because of street and railway station
good breakfast - no air-conditioner in the rooms, when it +30 outside and you can't open window because of the road with a busy traffic - it's terrible. -
Good location, close to Cathedral and train station Staff could have been a little friendlier
no greetings, no welcom no thank you for stay wit uss, no good morning nothing what shows you as guest are welcome In my entire life I never had such a Hotel.
The breakfast is ok The hotel is located next to a major thoroughfare (almost a freeway!) and I hardly slept as the sound of cars kept me awake. If you stay there, make sure that your room is not facing this major road.
Nice breakfast Bar area could be more user friendly
The breakfast, and the helpful staff, especially Sabine...
in a perfect location and the hotel was very good in every category no
Location was V. Good the staff was realy nice Rooms are too small, the rate was very high
The location was great, as was the breakfast. The beds and sheets were very comfortable. The staff was efficient. We arrived at 4pm and our room was not made (though we were informed of this possibility by reception). The cleaning staff seemed quite stressed and were a little agressive in shooing us out of the room so they could clean it - we had just arrived and wanted to quickly freshen up before heading to the bar for our complimentary 'welcome' drink.
family class hotel co operative staff elevator was not working
with the exception of a cocroach in the breakfast table, everything int he hotel was very good 1- a cocroach in the breakfast table which they dealt with but still it was an indication of the cleanliness and second: 2- the bathroom needs to be better stocked with shampoo and soap as there is very little in the bathrooms
No heating at room
The hotel staff is helpful and the the location is very good (close to central railway station and Cathedral). Room is sligghtly conjested.
the location very noisy hotel!!!
Central am Dom has the best location, it is close to main train station, tourist buses, and within walking distance of some great restaurants.and shops There was nothing I did not like about this hotel, My husband and I stayed here two years ago and we wikk most certainly stay again.
Location is excellent. Not enough dining spaces at breakfast.
Location and breakfast were good. Traffic noise due to central location.
there was not hot water any day on me stay the price is too high, so next time I would try another hotel
The internet connection was overpriced / 30 euros per day so it is not recomented for bussines
The Location was very good The room could have been bigger, but was comfotable
Location is good. Roadworks disturb traffic and scenery.
not really something - price was not equivalent to what the hotel has to offer!! way to expensive for what it is. small rooms, not really an 'inviting' hotel. More a mentallity of 'come here, pay a enormous amount of money and leave!!' An experience that I have not encountered yet in my many international hotel travels. Your organisation has lost a client for life!
Location perfect comfortable and rooms quiet.
Ideal location, pleasant courteous staff, The road works directly in front of the hotel although it did not effect my actual stay in the hotel - would look better if area was screened off particularly on the side of the hotel.
The only thing that was actually good was the bed and the matress The rooms were too small for the high price we had to pay. Also the cleaning was not good. For 2 days they did not change our sheets and the soap we used, they gave us the same one the next day. And all this in a very high price.
Due to building work for the new subway system access to the hotel by car was very difficult
The hotel is really nice. The lobby and relaxing areas are really pleasant to spend some time in. The breakfast is ridiculously expensive.
Good hotel in an excellent location. Room clean, bed very comfortable and staff friendly and helpful. Inconsistency in room facilities. For same room rate my friend had tea making facilities in room but I didn't.
Good location. Clean room. Generous breakfast buffet.
The hotel staff was very welcoming when we arrived. The breakfast was very nice. It was nice to have signage in German and English. The decorating was dated. The pictures on the walls were flowers not mediteranean. The walk to get there from the train station felt dangerous. It would have been nicer to have a shuttle. I expected a lot more from 4 stars. I think it's a 2-3 star hotel at most.
The free mini bar and breakfast was a nice touch. The location to the train station was good as well.
beds were at least comfortable completely overpriced
The best thing about staying in this hotel is its close proximity to the main train station. This is really very convenient for me. The staff were not very friendly and the buffet breakfast should have more variety.
Good location and no problems with anything. Building work all around. No refreshment facilities in the room.
Location great, quiet and safe and the front desk staff were exceptionally helpful Bar prices were too high
tea making facilities now available from reception
great location near train station room was well worn and expensive for what you got
Good location. Good breakfast.
Located in Altstadt, it was great for getting to the station, and also close to lively and not so lievly bars (depending on what you want).Self-service breakfast was good quality and plentiful.
it was near to everywhere i really enjoyed staying there, but it doesnt seem to be a 4 star hotel
very friendly staff; larget breakfast buffet
Location location and location Nostalgia of 80s and 90s
The people at the reception desk, especially the afternoon person, were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and large enough to comfortably accommodate a family of 3. The breakfast that was included in the room rate was well prepared and got our days off to a good start.
Great location Lobby and rooms are dated
I was only there for a very brief stay but the room was comfortable and the breakfast good
Enjoyed the location, the room size was more than adequate. Funky smells in the stairwell and elevator, parking was lacking.
Good place near the cathedral. The street is very noisy.
Excellent location. Lift. Room space. Room lights (too dark). Old carpet.
clean efficent business hotel
Location was good - close to Interzum Show Poor standard of quality for the price charged
It is central, very convenient for shopping and for eating out. It is open until late. The breakfast was good and plentiful, with a pot of coffee for each guest. The lady in charge made you feel welcome, as you entered, bleary eyed. The hotel is basic, the room cold, the facilities mean (e.g. only one small towel in the room), the desk staff indifferent to guests and sometimes brusque.
Proximity to city centre
The location on Hohe Strasse is wonderful for people who don't have a car. Only a few hundred steps from the Hauptbanhof, it's very much worth the effort to get there. The room was quiet, and the ability to hear the bells of the Dom makes the mornings wonderful if you want to wake up that way - if not, you can close the world out and shut the windows. The room was perfectly clean and new looking and the breakfast room was bright and happy - the hosts very polite and nice. Reviews prior to 2007 may not be completely accurate due to a renovation that has made the hotel very much worth the money. We stayed there in late April 2007 during a period where the daytime temps were around 25 C/80 F - if we had shut the windows, the room would have become uncomfortably hot and there is no airconditioning. If you stay during warmer temperatures, it might be nice to find a small electric fan at any of the many department stores throughout the fussganger zone between Hohe Strasse and Neumarkt.
It is near attractions. Air conditioner is quit poor.
just dont go to this hotel
Location to town center. Non-smoking rooms would be welcome.
All Facilities were excellent, its the right choice for all Every thing was available for a family stay. It would be nice if drinking water is made available
The location of the hotel was very central to Dom, shopping, sights and trains. Rooms were spacious and quiet. Staff very helpful. Overall feel of the hotel was great and it was lovely to chat to the permanent residents. Highly recommend this hotel!
Comfort offered and friendliness of staff JUST the elevators are slow
the hotel position is great - near the central station, very close to the shopping streets and to the dom in cologne. we had spacious apartment with bedroom living room in each television and a little kitchen. wonderful for families, for business trip or else.
Excellent facilities for Business professionals and people with limited mobility. Extended stay's possible. I would not recommend for young families in respect for older clientelle.
Spaciousness, location unbeatable, range of facilities, welcoming and helpful staff.
friendly staff and spacious accomodation
We enjoyed our stay. Value for money. Location near central station is advantageous.
The location is perfect, right next to Am Dom. The apartment was clean and spacious, and the staff friendly. Parking garage under the hotel was convenient, though it costs an extra 20 euros a day.
the hotel was close to the cathedral, shops and the river also only two mins from central station.breakfast was lovely a choice of almost anything you wanted, the staff were very helpfull recomending restaurants ect.and the mini bar was included.
Great location. Excellent service every step of the way, great staff. Delicious breakfast. Kingsized bed was really two beds pushed together.
The Excelsior Hotel Ernst is a superb hotel which I recommend highly. The ambience, room size, location and the quality of the staff were all wonderful and the free mini-bar was an extra treat. The only annoyance was that despite my contract promising free wired and wireless internet access, this apparently only applied to phone and tablet and not to laptops. Wifi for laptops costs €22 per day which is excessive. Last time I stayed they gave me a voucher for the laptop. This time not. Inconsistent - but a small price to stay in a nice hotel.
Very helpful staff. Very alert and professional. Unbeatable location The room was not up to standard for a 5-star hotel. There was a desk, but no lamp on or near the desk. The walls between the rooms are paper thin. I could hear every word spoken by guests in rooms beside me. One morning I was woken by the sound of the woman in the next room having what appeared to be a great orgasm. She probably was not that loud, but the walls must be without any sound proofing at all.
All the lobby staff were helpful and pleasant.
The hospitality of the stuff was outstanding. No
Good location, good service
the room I had was facing the internal courtyard and was light and airy. There was no back of house noise to prevent me having the french doors wide open all night. The staff were very friendly and the refresehments and meals generous and delicious. The location was great, 15 mins to the Kolnmesse, across the road from the shopping area and next door to the dom.
Everything was perfect
professionnel and friendly staff. very good asiatique restaurant
A smiling reception, very nice breakfast, free of charge drinks in minibar. TV set was very close to the bed, the towels were smelling smoke (Well sometimes i may smoke 1-2 cigarettes during my trips so i wanted a smoking room. One can say that this is normal with a smoking room but it give me the impresion that maybe the towels arenot used by the previous visitor and they are not changed and as it absorb the cigarette smoke it smelled). I didnt smoke during my stay by the way. Anyway, no worries, next time i will request non-smoking room.
Beautiful room and view of the city. 1 minute walk to the main trainstation and 2 minutes to the Dom.
Location of the hotel was excellent, very central and a short walk from the train station and main attractions. The hotel, for the price range, could have been a lot cleaner, and it should also be noted that double rooms do not have double beds, but two singles pushed together. Considering the low standard of upkeep and hygiene the fourth star is questionable.
location room is too small
Beautifully sited overlooking the Cathedral, with a bit of extra care and attention this could be a great hotel. Sadly a little updating and a better restaurant would make this a much better place to stay. Good for a day or so but not for longer stays. No information at all in hotel room about hotel facilities or town. Restaurant seems to be shut most of the time (apart from bar). A bit old-fashioned in the decor.
Location was great, right at the train station in the middle of the city The interior is worn down, although the rooms were perfectly clean. I was told I had to pay some city tax although I already had paid this charge with via booking.com. Other than that everything was smooth and straight forward.
Location. Right across street from Hauptbahnhof and Dom. excellent breakfast. Room was a little small but that is Europe.
The location was perfect for the town centre and although it appeared pretty basic from the outside we were very pleasantly surprised by the interior - both public spaces and our rooms. The breakfast buffet was super - probably the best we've had in recent city breaks across Europe.
Easy to get to from the railway station It was very expensive for the quality of the hotel.
The Staff were absolutly excellant. They couldn't of helped me more. With my queries and questions they seemed more than pleased to help me and satisfied to have been able to help me. The small rooms, Bed next to wall! Small bathroom. No tea and coffee making facilies in the room and also when at breakfast the food was exquisite but the tea water was not hot and the coffee served was not hot. So i didn't get a nice cup of coffee in the mornings throughout my whole stay which was dissapointing but easy to solve.
The room was nice and the location was terrific. The breakfast and hotel staff were all anxious to accommodate any requests. No, everything was as expected or better.
Central location, 2 minutes from the Cathedral and shops. Parking was not easy - had to park in the multi-storey car park which was located 10 minutes away.
The location of the hotel is excellent, next to the Dome and main shopping street. The room was comfortable and very well maintained.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The location near the DOM was good, and the room was clean and comfortable. If we come back to Cologne, we would stay there again.
Its proximity to the Dom My only gripe was that the bed while comfortable was very soft.
Wireless connection is not free
Great location in centre of town.
Hotel is difficult to find even by using GPS sat nav.
While the exact street the hotel was located on was somewhat difficult to locate, it was extremely near both shopping and tourist areas of the city. The convenience of walking on a few minutes to these areas, as well as the variety of restaurants and bars in the area made it an incredibly convenient location.
The hotel was actually very easy to get to by driving even in the city centrum. It was also central to the main shopping streets in Koln and the cathedral so it was extremely easy to get where you wanted with a short walk. No real complaints, was your average hotel, nothing special but not bad for a one night stay. The beds weren't the most comfy and the breakfast was just ok.
Great staff and excellent location...
Quiet and close to the trainstation and shopping Bad TV reception
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Dissapointed thet there was no tea/coffee making facilities inthe room, which is usuall in a 3* Superior hotel.
friendly staff, location in the very centre, separate entrance during night hours, room was close to the breakfast buffet (a bit noisy in the morning hours)
the staffs are friendly and helpful. the room is spacious except that no air-condition. good breakfast and great, great location!! none!
Good welcome at the reception!
The location is really good. Close to the central station but not that noisy. The breakfeast room is also fantastic. nothing
Very friendly staff and a convenient location adjacent to the train station.
Location was good for the city Room was on the back of the hotel and was quite noisy from the railway station. No coffee/tea facilities in the room. No extra pillows. Room was quite cold at night.
Close to the messe, cleen, nice room , neer to the center. The difrent in prices on the exhibition time is to high
The location is very central. Very easy to go the cities around. I had a very good breakfast. It is such a bussiness central hotel and it is needed free wireless internet system.
Good location, clean, staff very helpful, very good breakfast
We appreciated the communication skills of the staff and the close proximity to the main train station. Somewhat heavier drapes on the windows would mitigate the noise that comes with the nearness to the train station.
