the best in many things comfort and value for the money
My wife and I booked your hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday and our 39th wedding anniversary, we were most impressed with all aspects of the hotel. The staff were all helpful, courteous and friendly. The food was really excellent with a wide variety of choice. Although the view from our room overlooked the roof area this did not bother us, the comfort and cleanleness more than compensated us. having to leave
Great location and the public areas are nice. My room was like stepping back into the 70s. It was tired and dated with mismatching outdated furnishings. The bathroom sink kept blocking, the aircon didn't work and the mattress was lumpy. This room was not worth the money I paid (£100). Tip: ask for a refurbished room.
staff and location Room decoration is poor and in need of much updating all over, especially in the bathrooms.General cleanliness is lacking
The room and the bathroom were spacious and well decorated. The bar and resturant were very good and the breakfast was excellent. The squeeky bed and lots of the furniture in our room and the bar were a bit saggy and could do with an update.
Breakfast lots of choice good service
Parking was easy and very good value for Brighton. Breakfast was excellent. Room was very comfortable. Although a twin room was booked this was not available, fortunately this was not imperative but may have been!!. The bar staff's command of english could have been better.
Breakfast, swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi Could only access bed from one side, as pushed against wall , and only one pillow each - second morning not able to have our breakfast in the Windsor restaurant, the other restaurant no windows and no sea views -
The accommodation was clean, the reception area was impressive and the breakfast was good value. The room was very small and the bathroom was extremely tiny. The bathroom had a broken shelve in it (which hadn't been repaired!) and the shower (which looked powerful) was actually a trickle.
fine spacious hotel tghere was was leakimg water in the abthroom
location and facilities room service was rubbish, ordered toilet rolls, paper & ice and glasses that never turned up
friendly efficient staff, cleanliness, comfy bed no tea/coffee in our room, no window to outside, enquired about plug adapter i left in room, no reply.
Sea view Slow check in
Amenities and location Checking in was at 14:00 hours, upon arriving half an hour early, no check was permitted to see if room was ready earlier, so guests had to wait and then queue to 14:00 hours. Other hotels do check room availability and if available let you check in earlier to avoid a queue.
The location was excellent, on one side the sea front on the other the town. Could walk anywhere easily. The reception staff also very efficient. The bed was very hard. The inner courtyard meant that we were overlooked by other windows and the people sitting below eating and drinking. It was also a very hot room but if you had the window open it was only to the inner courtyard where music was played. This meant that it was overpriced for what you got.
The restuarant waiter at dinner was very good - but as there were only 3 dining this probably was why. Room much too hot (was promised cooler in room but it didn't appear), access to car park dirty and smelly, car parking expensive, I was annoyed that a gratuity was added to bill for (the expensive) dinner, breakfast was expensive, and the room was not made up until 3.00pm. It also a pity that some staff have difficulty understanding english. It was rude to have to sign the slip for breakfast before being shown to a table - the implication that you might not pay. Corridors were in need of redecoration. The lounge area was not very good.
Access to town. Breakfast, though expensive, was fantastic. Dirty cutlery at breakfast. I had to get up four times to get myself cutlery - which I stole from other tables.... I had to ask for toast.
Arrived at 6.30am after flight from Australia and was able to check into my room. Also got an upgrade at no cost. Internat should be free - however, very few hotels offer this.
Staff very friendly. Quiet night. Location great. Smart decor.
The service and staff were excellent. The room was of a very high standard and the location was perfect. The breakfast that we had from room service was very good but could have done with being a bit warmer.
On arrival we were allocated a room. On openeing the room there was already another guests luggage in there. We were then given another room which the pass card did not open. A third room was then allocated which we were able to access. My concern in this matter is that the first room had already been allocated and we were able to access it. Not the most secure system, which left us feeling very unsure about leaving anything in our room.
A small housekeeping item was pointed out 3 times but not actioned (faulty kettle)
The staff were very friendly and the location was excellent. We felt very rushed when we ate in the restaurant on the Saturday evening, we had to ask the waiting staff a couple of times to give us more time to decide what we wanted to eat. Also the fruit left in our room looked very old.
It was quiet, comfortable and clean with a nice size double room, the ensuite was modern stylish and clean, the hotel was central to the town and had pleasant sitting areas and breakfast room. The self service cooked breakfast was good, a continental style breakfast was also available. A minor point: The last guest's towel was still hanging on the back of the en-suite bathroom door.
location, helpful porter decor, breakfast, view over side street and too noisy early am
The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the spanish lady working in the bar during the day on 14th and a cleaner (man) who helped us when our card key wouldn't work.
Position geographically, close to beach and shops. Meeting point for every stag and hen night in front of hotel, because the rooms where so warm you had to have the windows open and the last talking stopped at 5.30 am and the traffic took over at 7.00am
Position of hotel always been good I feel hotel both inside and outside needs a lick of paint starting to look drab especially outside. Decoration is really quite poor compard to when I used to stay.
close to everything in brighton, excellent room over looking the beach
Nice big room, plenty space to include the baby buggy. Excellent location right on seafront, very close to the Pier. Right on Town Centre for shopping. Expensive parking on site. Room right outside next door Fish & Chip shop, open until 4am which was noisy for baby, room was on left side of building, a room on other side may have been quieter.
The service was excellant, especially when trying to resolve issues. The location was great. The room was far too hot and to cool it down had to use air con unit which was located behind the curtains, absolutely no use when sleeping. The Tv was fauty and had interference. the shower curtain needed replacing as it was not adequate with the power of th shower and splurged water all over the floor, making it slippery and dangerous. There was a function on the saturday evening which we could hear the music to 3 floors up, although the staff offered us another room at 1 in the morning, the bed was tiny; so not suitable at all. Late check out was denied enough though we were too tired to face the long drive home and no discount as an apology for inconvienences. Very disappointing for a hotel of this standard so thus would not recommend.
location & service Price especially parking costs
It was right next door to Paul Weller concert Small bedroom
everything was brilliant especially the breakfast there was so much choice.service throughout hotel was great and rooms and hotel very clean.it is a very grand hotel hence the name.plus great location opposite the beachfront with 5 minute walk to the pier.
Feedback is just ok As i said before, it was a bit tatty
Good old fashioned hotel in a fantastic seaside location, The Grand offers a calming atmosphere mixed with special personal service to make all guests feel welcome. The staff couldn't enough for us 10/10. Walking up the Victorian staircase, But having said that there are also two lifts available.
the helpfulness of all the staff was absoultely brilliant the price of room service and the mini bar was extortionate
facilities, getting a sea view as a free upgrade, staff friendly.
Breakfast v good for money Abit worn out in places needs decor refresh
Very very good staff, attentive and very helpful Charged for using a credit card to pay my bill so I will never use or allow my staff to use a De Vere Hotel ever again, bed uncomfortable
The only problem was a bathroom sink that didn't drain and a long line for the reservation desk. Other than these issues it was lovely.
To much noise heating poor
sea view we had no parking facilities so had to struggle a little bit .
The leisure facilities. The reception staff very poor and inpolite.
Pool and spa area. Food was good, excellent location. Dated bathroom, scaffolding, could be cleaner.
The food was excellent
The location is great easy access to the beach, pier and town and the lanes.
the room was lovely. desk staff helpful. breakfast was chaos- not enough cutlery (people trying to eat bacon & eggs with spoons!), queing to sit at tables, food running out and not being replaced despite requests ( twenty minute wait for croissants!). duty manager hopeless. healthclub dirty and very run down.
location great. Beds very comfortable . Room nice and warm during a very cold spell I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of this hotel. The bathrooms especially, some bleach and a toothbrush would be a good idea especially round the taps and to take the black from around the tiles. Attention should be paid to the housekeeping of this hotel. The spa again was not clean, thought we would spend a few hours there but changed our minds when we went in. Again the cleanliness here was poor.
The hotel was very nice and it was nice to be upgraded from a twin room to a family one at no extra charge. Very convenient for the Brighton Centre and shopping which is the reason we came.
location, friendliness of staff
The Spa situated in the Hotel Our room was located opposite a pub. The noise was so loud it was a bit difficult to sleep.
the comfort and the quality of the rooms and the friendliness of the staff.
The atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff friendly and helpful. Our bed was really comfy. Our room was not ready by the stated time but we were happy to sit in the bar and we were offered a free drink. Loved it!
Nice boutique hotel in the centre of Brighton, near the Lanes and seafront. Please see above
Lovely bar ambience. great bathroom but very basic room, even for 'superior'. Akin to a Travel Lodge! Inefficient reception, poorly configured for the hoards waiting!
Hotel staffs were very friendly. Decor of the chambre was superb. Nothing I can think of .
Excellent room service and attention to detail in the room. Very good bathroom facilities. Excellent position on the front and near to restaurants. Quiet and comfortable with a good ambiance. Check out was very slow and staff were more keen to do paperwork and made me wait!
The hotel was just perfect. Beautiful bedroom, caters for pets and top staff. Not a complaint but if you don't need a dog bed or bowl let them know or you will be charged £10. The staff removed it from our bill so there is no issue.
Good size rooms. Professional staff. Comfortable. The food was average. Fish and risotto overcooked - poor presentation.
Helpful and obliging staff. Well presented room, Lovely public areas with comfortable seating. A delightfully converted old building. Excellent location. Very buzzy atmosphere; but quiet corners to relax and chat Parking is a problem. Concessioinary rate in NCP car park which is located 1/2 mile away. (always a problem in Brighton)
Very dated, dirty and in desperate need of decoration and refurbishment
The hotelis in an ideal location close to both the beach and shops. However it is a little tired and would benefit hugely from a coatof paint expecially at a room rate of 95 pounds per night.
Very helpful staff, good location for short break Cold room (small radiator) and no heating in bathroom, although offered fan heater by reception staff which helped. Would recommend but not during cold weather
Location and building history. The room and other parts of the hotel do not appear to be too clean.
Nice room, good service ,breakfast ok central position
How close it was to the beach and centre of town. The view out of the room's window over the green area in front of the hotel. The fact that it wasn't clear that when I booked the room, I'd only reserved it and it wasn't paid for. I had to pay the full amount on my credit card when I arrived. Luckily I had enough money on my card to do so, otherwise I wouldn't have had enough to pay for the room. The attitude of the staff on reception was also very sub-standard. They weren't welcoming or friendly in the slightest.
Room was OK and location was good with great seaviews. The public areas of the hotel were verty shabby and in great need of a re-furb. breakfast was rough & ready.
The room was spacious and enjoyed good views of the Promenade and the Beach. The hotel itself is well-located. The decor is mediocre; the room was dark; the shower was poor; the hot breakfast was luke warm; the common parts and the lift are pretty scruffy.
Reception staff excellent no complaints
Large spacious room with a fantastic view, Clean comfortable beds and quiet environment. Good breakfast, Friendly and courteous staff, excellent location. Entrance and reception area need new carpets and generally freshening up. The lift was very small but worked well however the different floors also appeared tired and a little scruffy as you passed them in the lift. We were on the 2nd floor and the corridors to our room needed a lot of TLC.
The central location, comfortable room and excellent breakfast.
Excellent location, comfortable and spacious room, good breakfast and very friendly staff. The entrance is on a busy street, in between shops, which makes it difficult to reach on a Saturday, but it's a minor gripe.
Well located, spacious room, good smiling genuine service, quiet room, clean and updated paintwork and decor, competitive value No food available in hotel other than bfast, despite advertising that they did
Clean, easy to book and good price Twin room had one bed and a 'put you up'. Not good in 2009!
very friendly and helpful staff, short walking distance from The Brighton Centre. Only 4 channels on the TV and as a women traveller felt a little unsafe around hotel location at night.
I was stunned by the quiet considering the location of the hotel and for this reason (along with the value for money and cleanliness/room size etc) would definitely go back
The breakfast and restaurant staff are excellent. He check in was slow with them not having details of our booking then they charged us 85.98 instead of the original quote on your website of 81.00. the person who checked us in was making stupid remarks to himself and when I questioned him abt the rate he just said he cant comment on what the websit quoted us and I should take it up with the website it was not his concern, charming. The room was small compared to last 4times we have stayed there. There was no milk of tea in the room. We had someone who kept knocking at our door and running away and when I complained they said if it happened again they would ask someone to patrol the floor! My daughter was upset she had no child welcome pack this time as the other times.considering I stayed at the hotel 3times just last year, I would have thought they would have some sort of loyalty scheme for people who keep coming back but now I dont think I want to ever go back there. Its not about the 4pounds difference in price, its about the attitude of the bald big guy at check in.
The location is excellent
Central location; excellent access to shops/ restaurants/ public transport Free wi-fi or at a much much lower rate (E.G. 3 pounds daily) in the room; drinking water carried a slightly salty taste
Clean, helpful staff, good location
Staff were really friendly and very helpful. The room was super clean as was the dining room. The breakfast was very generous and food fresh with good variety. We also liked the biscuits in the room. Was able to accomodate us with a 1st floor room. Shower water pressure could be improved. Temperature was great but not enough pressure to attempt a hair wash.
how u got your own frount door key to let yor self in when out late
Liked the size of the bedroom and the location was close to centre 5 min walk. the bathroom was not good quality especially as we had booked a superior room. The bed was comfy but the headboard looked old and dated.
Breakfast was ok Internet picture misleading as the description notes that the hotel was recently refurbished and god only knows what it was like before. There were damp stains on the ceiling, ripped chair to sit on, curtains were filthy, mattress bedding was covered in black marks. Shower head was a sprinkler and very dirty inside.
Thought it was very expensive for what you actually got. Have since stayed in other b & B's which were in much better condition and were much better value for money. Also our room was up 43 steps which is a lot when you have to lug heavy suitcases up them and have jetlag!!
Hotel was very reasonably priced and in an extremely convenient location; right on the coast by the pier, and a 2 minute walk from The Brighton Centre, which is where I was visiting. Our room was on the top floor, which I believe was 5 floors up and with no elevator. We had lots of heavy luggage and the staff didn't offer any help in assisting us with getting it up the stairs. Also, the room was small, which was fair enough for the price, but the double bed was up against a wall, meaning guests had to climb over each other to get out of bed in the night,
Location Noisy plumbing, poor soundproofing and creaky doors.
Airy room and friendly staff Separate bathroom, which wasn't very clean
They take dogs! Very pleasant staff. Basic but ideal. Location great.
Location to town and beach was excellent More selection needed at Breakfast
the location the outside looked shabby it wasnt particularly clean the service at breakfast was a mess
Very pleasing large room size, bathroom and room very clean and modern. LCD tv. The hotel was extremely close to main sites in Brighton eg cinema, town centre.
Comfortable, friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. Room was cold.
Changed to sea view room, very nice, also lounge bar area relaxing I book a taxi on arrival for the following day, however this was not booked. I have stayed at the hotel twice this has happened both times, also view from first room poor, overlooking air con unit also noisy and dirty
The TV Small Bath
Location was excellent for Brighton Center and The Lanes. Staff were polite and friendly. As with many hotels the beds are far to hard and do not allow a good nights sleep. Although not under any control of the hotel the nearest car parking is extortionately expensive.
Nice room, very comfortable, nice bathroom/toilet facilities, the room was very clean and bed was lovely! Was facing the back of the hotel which was particularly nice.
Closr to amenities Noise from bars/clubs near by
Good breakfast, big room. Carpet in the bathroom, but otherwise clean.
Room was standard
Jacuzzi was blissful and the view of the sea also lovely fast service of excellant breakfast;-) Unfortunately there is lack or shall I say no subtitled on TV and need to upgrade TV that enabled for people to access to Subtitles.
the fact that the granville is in an excellent location and was handy for everything in brighton although we had a lovely breakfast i personally found the restaurant too hot.
The location was good, close to shops and the pier about 10 min walk, the breakfast was topnotch serving english breakfast with variety. We found staff friendly bar one person but we got a smile out of him in the end. The room was very warm which was good because it was freezing the time that we went but there was a fan available in room if got too hot. Wifi available which is good to have although we didnt use but there was also a computer room. I liked the 11:30 check out which gave us a lil more time to snooze. We stayed in west sussex room and was perfect for us not too small or too big, the bathroom was nice too with a jacuzzi for our relaxation. Cant really fault this hotel, parking would have been nice or even discounted would have been fine.
Getting away from it The worst in my entire life
The staff of the hotel was very friendly and helpful. I wished the colour of the wall of the room was more brighter.
restaurant/breakfast area Very uncomfortable bed
Breakfast was superb - best bit about the place. Location good too. Bar staff offensive. Felt like we were disturbing their private parties - perhaps they're in the wrong job? Asked to pay in advance at check-in - cheap idea for so-called boutique hotel. Hotel details stated shower in Sea View Room, but actually only hand-held over bath. Changed room to cheaper room but no refund forthcoming. Toilet cistern did not fill at first, then engineer changed so that it kept filling for 3 days! Wireless did not work.
Location excellent, breakfast great, most staff very helpful, room OK if a bit small. On arriving back at the hotel before midnight, the bar staff were having a private party and made it very clear that we were not welcome. It's not a beautiful restaurant & bar at all (as claimed).
Tha art on the walls and hotel friendleyness The room was very small
very different settings - quite eclectic the cleanliness and the smell of the room.
the friendlyness of the staff and a stressless stay perfect and will be booking in again for next year
The quirkiness of it, brilliant view. There was a clear glass paned door to the en-suite toilet which was a little too quirky for me, but did not affect our very pleasant stay with them.
the quirky rooms. breakfast - the bag of stuff was not left at my door by 7am as agreed so I was walking out without the bag of breakfast. No one responded to the telephone at 7pm when I wanted to ask how to watch TV as I could only get a music chanel, Russia Today and one other
the new staff / owners were fantastic, really friendly and helpful. love the design of the hotel, our room was really great, with some original art deco touches. the displays of all of the art was a really nice touch, cant' wait to see it next time i'm in brighton. would definitely recommend here
pretty room, nice breakfast, nice staff.
The bed and the view. The pear with the breakfast. Would have prefered an apple. ha ha
Great staff, very friendly, lovely location, great room The walls were very thin, we could hear people next door as if they were in our own room - there was a woman next door who was screaming for over an hour and a half
Best night sleep I've had in a hotel. Would recommend this place to anyone who likes funky artwork in a comfortable setting
Staff very friendly and accomdating to requests. lots of staires to room (but staff did help carry luggage up willingly!)
Very multifunctional hotel. No space or items go to waste and recycling is highly valued. Internet was working great and they even had a very adorable cat. Shower stall was very small.
Staff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable for my 3 nights stay. I felt that the cost at £285 for 3 nights was very expensive, given that it was towards the end of season, and I would have expected a concession for a 3 night stay.
The staff were very helpful, the breakfast was first rate and the location was excellent. No complaints whatsoever
hotel is very comfortable, excellent service, first class breakfast and very eco aware
We enjoyed our stay very much, clean tidy very good position for eating and shopping. Excellent breakfast did not need full english.
room decoration, location poor choice at breakfast
Very good custsomer service. Lovely room, Fantastic breakfast. Great sea view, Friendly, helpful and informal approach which I liked.
we liked its position being within walking distance to many places of interest. And we liked mr watts a very freindly resident cat
